Jason Berry - Steve Bannon's porn and meth houseApril 18Steve Bannon's porn and meth house: 'You have no idea what kind of evil stuff went on'The Florida 'party house' previously occupied by Steve Bannon had quite a reputation. When award-winning underwater cinematographer Lawrence Curtis moved into the lush Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami, he had no idea the house he was renting would become a national story. But that's because he didn't know the prior tenant was Steve Bannon, adviser to Donald Trump's presidential campaign and now the chief strategist in the White House. In March 2017, the Washington Post published a profile on Bannon that included some shocking details, including the bizarre case of 1794 Opechee Drive, the house in Miami that Bannon claimed as his residence, along with his third ex-wife.The Miami-Dade Police Department's public corruption unit launched an investigation into whether Bannon had fraudulently registered to vote in that county. Bannon had signed the lease, listed himself as an occupant, and paid the rent every month. One of Bannon's colleagues, Arlene Delgado, testified that she had met with Bannon at the house on Opechee Drive, which he described as “my house,” where she saw “boxes, papers, and effects” that indicated he lived there. They met, according to Delgado, because Bannon had moved to Florida and wanted to increase the presence of the far-right Breitbart News, of which he was executive chair. The meeting was corroborated by an email exchange between Bannon and Delgado.Bannon's ex-wife testified that he did indeed stay at the house with her, though she did not feel “comfortable” answering any further questions. In the final report dismissing the investigation, law enforcement found “evidence that tends to indicate that [Bannon] did not intend to or actually did reside” in that county, but there was not sufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Bannon had knowingly committed voter registration fraud. The Washington Post focused primarily on the bizarre fact that Bannon listed the Opechee Drive house as his place of residence, despite living in California. The article lightly touched on the state of disrepair in which Bannon left the house — including a bathtub apparently destroyed by acid. But the truth turns out to have been much worse than that. When Curtis first saw the house, the real estate agent, Beatriz Portela, told him the previous tenants “were not very upstanding people” and had “severely damaged” the property. They had “put padlocks on all the doors, installed video cameras, and had ruined the bathtub, kitchen counter, and floor.”Worse, though, was that it had been a “party house,” she said, known for frequent drug use.Carlos Herrera, who owned the house with with his wife, Andreina Morales, painted a picture of what initially seemed to be a normal tenancy but soon evolved into an almost daily parade of debauchery and drug use, including run-ins with the police.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

"On trips to the store, I stared at missing children on milk cartons and thought of Cajun altar boys," wrote New Orleans-based investigative reporter, author, and film director, Jason Berry, in his first book on the Catholic Church sexual abuse and coverup, Lead Us Not Into Temptation: Catholic Priests and the Sexual Abuse of Children (1992), which was compiled through court documents from both the criminal and civil cases against Lafayette Diocese priest, Father Gauthe, who admitted to abusing 37 children from 1972-1983 in southwest Louisiana. Father Gauthe was the first Catholic priest to face a highly publicized criminal trial for the sexual abuse of a child. Jason is lauded as being the first to break the Catholic Church story and is a pioneer for his reporting and advocate for the survivors. Jason remains deeply rooted to his home Louisiana and his beloved city of New Orleans. As a writer, the music has always been his salvation and has kept him grounded through the years. He joins us today to discuss his latest book and film, City of a Million Dreams, which explores the rich history of New Orleans through the lens of jazz funerals and the unique tradition of the second line. Jason's career at Echo Global has spanned 11 years over 10 different roles. Tune in to learn Jason's thoughts on measuring the success of career growth, building career maps to instill trust in employees, the impact of employee feedback management, and more!About AllVoices In today's workforce, people often don't feel empowered to speak up and voice their opinions about workplace issues, including harassment, bias, and other culture issues. This prevents company leadership from making necessary changes, and prevents people from feeling fulfilled, recognized, and included at work. At AllVoices, we want to change that by providing a completely safe, anonymous way for people to report issues directly to company leaders. This allows company leadership real transparency into what's happening in their companies—and the motivation to address issues quickly. Our goal is to help create safer, more inclusive companies.

Exciting news last week that Air Canada Cargo is adding freighters to its fleet is some very positive news of the impact and impression of air cargo to the world in 2021.So now with its first freighter due to arrive sometime early in Q4 of 2021, we thought the man carrying the responsibility to make the future Air Canada Cargo plan work might share some insights and industry views as his mighty all -cargo fleet is building. Summer Rewind ....The Latin words " Speas Ultima Dea " translate in English saying "Hope is the last Goddess". Marco Sorgetti served as Secretary General for FIATA during a period from 2011 until 2017 serving the 92-year old Swiss-based organization representing the largest group of global freight forwarders. During that time FIATA emerged from what can be described as a self-imposed veil of secrecy, gaining wider attention and acceptance in many transportation circles as a vital force.. In truth FIATA has always been there and actually much longer than many other transportation fraternities.. It was during the aforementioned time-frame that IATA and FIATA inked their historic cooperation that apparently IATA has sandbagged for now. Now happily retired, sheltered in place at home in Turin, Italy, Marco speaks from a vantage point that includes his experiences as a freight forwarder and his time as the top communicator and a sensitive, always brilliant top executive at FIATA. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/geoffrey-arend/support

Right now Air Canada/Air Canada Cargo is in the process of converting several of its Boeing 767 aircraft into dedicated freighters with the first converted 767 freighter scheduled to enter service in October Trade Show Madness…. Right now, if you look at it there are (count'em) no less than four and maybe more live cargo trade shows on the boards to be held between August 1st and the end of 2021. Maybe a trip close to home might be a better idea for folks that have to go somewhere. Here in New York City getting back on the road again for a short trip up country as COVID-19 fades in the rear view mirror, there may be bigger hotels in Williamstown, a well- heeled western Massachusetts community where the College and Summer Theater Festival get a lot of attention nationwide. But no hotel in the Northern or Southern Berkshires, and that would include Pittsfield to Great Barrington with Lenox and Lee and Stockbridge thrown in for good measure, beats the instant comfort of sanctuary and well-being, and the simple elegance surrounding you as you step into an immaculately clean and well equipped, nicely laid out room at the Maple Terrace Motel. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/geoffrey-arend/support

The Middle and Senior School House Swimming Carnival was held on Wednesday 14 August at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre. House carnivals provide a wonderful opportunity for Middle and Senior School students to come together and participate in a team environment. This year’s carnival provided much excitement with the introduction of extra 25m races that ran in the dive pool throughout the day as well as a number of new novelty events involving stand up paddleboards and inflatable packrafts.Congratulations to everyone who competed throughout the day and a huge thank you to all staff who assisted in the smooth running of the carnival, in particular to Mr Jason Berry and Mr Sam FitzGerald for their meticulous organisation and planning. Congratulations to School House who took home the Swimming Cup.

Is the Church Still Covering Up Abuse?

In this episode of “Deliver Us” we ask: Is the cover-up history? We talk to journalist Jason Berry, who reported on an abuser priest in the ’80s for National Catholic Reporter, as well as members of The Boston Globe’s Spotlight team, who broke the news of the sex abuse crisis in 2002. We ask them: how did the church cover up abuse? Then, we fast-forward to today to see whether or not the church is still hiding sex abuse. What can we learn from the past? And why is full transparency so difficult to achieve? Peter Steinfels, who has written critically about the Pennsylvania Grand Jury report for Commonweal, helps us understand the data. November 19, 2013 A growing number of cities across the country have begun to acknowledge their waterfronts as valuable community assets through plans, capital investments, and development regulations. The Cal-Sag Channel and Little Calumet River wind through the ecologically rich, but economically challenged Calumet region in Chicago's south suburbs. The region has received attention lately through the state's Millennium Reserve initiative, a new land bank and transit-oriented development fund, and possible national park designation for the Pullman neighborhood, and it's poised to take advantage of its rich water assets. At the center of much of this activity is the City of Blue Island, Illinois, an inner-ring suburb straddling both banks of the Cal-Sag Channel. Jason Berry, from the City of Blue Island, and Abby Crisostomo, from the Metropolitan Planning Council, discussed a number of water-oriented planning activities happening in Blue Island — from neighborhood-based approaches to green infrastructure and stormwater management, to community engagement in the creation of a waterfront plan, to regional-scale planning for an intercollegiate rowing center and more. They highlighted the lessons learned for integrating the recognition of water as an asset into community planning.

In September 2003 a Dominican priest, Father Tom Doyle, then stationed in Germany, was quietly relieved of his duties as an Air Force chaplain by Archbishop Edwin F. O’Brien, who heads the Archdiocese of Military Services. This decision was made public only in late April, and Doyle is completing his time in the military as a substance abuse counselor at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina. The explanation offered was a difference in opinion between Father Doyle and the archbishop on the necessity of daily Mass on military bases. According to John Sheehan, ARCC national coordinator, the action “smacks of retaliation for Father Doyle’s outspoken support for the victims of sexual abuse by the clergy.” Referring to the books Our Fathers by David France and Vows of Silence by Jason Berry and Gerald Renner, Sheehan commented that “it seems an odd coincidence that he is no longer allowed to function as a priest in the military at just the time his attempts to end the bishops’ conspiracy of silence are chronicled in two new studies of the scandal.”
