In YUH 186 Ed Hartman returns to the chat lab to discuss his second restoration of a Richard Lyford film, "The Scalpel". In this classic from the golden age of Hollywood, Lyford reveals himself to not only be a sinister antoagonist, but an early master of special effects that may have informed more famous films like "Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde" or "The Wolf Man" with Lon Chaney. The story revolves around the unscrupulous Dr. Howard Van Cleve and his fascination with the "wonder drug" Tyro-Chlorome, a concoction that turns him into a murderous monster decimating the halls and labs of the esteemed Karl Steiner Medical Institute. Our guest has not only recovered this perfect example of the cinematic short, but has restored it and re-scored the film in a way that only compliments the original work of the master. Just as the festivities started to close, the crew participated in a new round of the "Elite 8 Mini Bracket" on a topic that was so near and dear to Aaron's and Ed's heart, namely the songs of Frank Zappa, that the fun blissfully extended an addition half hour! Legendary is an understatement. Frank Wildhorn is a renowned composer of not just some of the most beloved and iconic musical theatre shows to ever hit the stage, but also of chart-topping hits for artists like Kenny Rogers, Hootie & the Blowfish, and Whitney Houston. You will surely know shows like Jeckyl & Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Bonnie & Clyde – which is about to go out on a UK tour, and the incredibly successful recent West End concerts for Death Note. Now he has a brand-new adaptation of the manga Your Lie in April, which is about to play three concerts at Theatre Royal Drury Lane on April 8th and 9th. In this episode, we discuss his shows, his approach to composition, and some of the musicals that have inspired him. Welcome to the Season 2 Premiere episode. On this week's episode I am joined once again by Paul Rowlands from www.money-into-light.com and we talk about Brian De Palma's 1976 classic Carrie. Paul did a lot of research for this one. We go through the Stephen King book, the 1976 movie, the sequel, and the remakes. First they start by talking about the book. Phillip gives the general information about the original movie, and then it's time for Listener Opinions. Then Phillip and Paul discuss their way through the movie. They then answer the question of whether they saw anything that they think Tarantino might of liked or used in a film. They individually rate the film. It's then time to answer whether they would buy, rent, or find this movie for free. Phillip gives his Phil's Film Favorite of the Week; Ferrari (2023). Paul talks about the sequel and remakes; Carrie (2013), The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999), and Carrie (2002). Then Paul talks about some of the other copycat kind of movies that deal with telekinesis; The Spell (1977), The Visitor (1979), Patrick (1978), and Jennifer (1978). Phillip and Paul then talk about movies that Paul has also been watching; The Dorm That Dripped Blood (1982), Thanksgiving (2023), Horror Express (1972), Street Trash (1987), and Silent Night (2023). The two of them also talk about Friday the 13th movies, Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox, Asphyx, Dr. Jeckyl and Sister Hyde, and Eyes Wide Shot. It's a long but great discussion about all things Carrie and about their love of movies. We hope you enjoy. Come back next week when Paul is back for Telekinesis Pt. 2: The Fury (1978). --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/makingtarantinothepodcast/message

Ohio State looked a little groggy coming out of the bye week for about a half but then figured out some things and found some rhythm to put Iowa on full blast, 54-10. Although the first half of the game may have been somewhat aggravating, the Buckeyes cruised in the end. It's hard to know how much of the defensive performance was the OSU defense and how much of it was an inept Hawkeye offense. The truth is probably a bit of both. We looked back on our predictions for the game and it turns out we vastly underrated Ohio State's offense (and/or overrated the Iowa defense). We go over the game's talking points, including six takeaways by the defense, some odd playcalling and issues getting plays called at all, the continued emergence of Julian Fleming, and more. We welcomed Matt de Bear from Roar Lions Roar to get us up to speed on how the 2022 season has gone for the Penn State Nittany Lions. It sounds like the Buckeye offense will again be forced to figure out a stout defense, but on the road this time. Penn State's offense is better than Iowa's and can run the football this year. The key match-up is probably Ohio State's passing game against that solid Penn State secondary. Big thanks to Matt for his usual excellent analysis of the Nittany Lions. We walked through this week's Big Ten results, including the Jeckyl-and-Hyde Purdue Boilermakers losing at Wisconsin, Maryland reaching bowl eligibility, and Rutgers probably driving the final nail into Indiana's bowl hopes. Then we made our picks to click on offense and defense for the Buckeyes in this Saturday's game and put our already questionable reputations on the line with our eerily similar score predictions. We'll be back next week to talk about Ohio State's match-up with Penn State in Happy Valley and look ahead to the trip to Evanston, Ill. to face the Northwestern Wildcats. In today's episode of The Veterinary Business Success Show, Brendan Howard holds a discussion with Krista Magnifico on her recent animal rescue mission trip to Ukraine. Dr. Magnifico earned her veterinary degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. From vet school, she bought a veterinary clinic in northern Maryland where she practiced surgery for cats and dogs. After seven years in general practice and successfully growing her practice, Krista envisioned a world where pet care was more widely accessible to pet owners without concern for their geography or economic status; with this vision, she founded Pawbly, an organization that partners with other organizations in helping animals find people to care for them. Before getting into veterinary medicine, Krista was a merchant mariner and after graduating from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, she sailed for 10 years as Chief Mate of cable-laying ocean-going vessels! Along with the hundreds of homeless and abandoned animals that Krista helps rescue each year, she shares her home with her three dogs (Jeckyl, Charlie, and Savannah), three cats (Wren, Oriole, and Magpie), and a pot-bellied pig named Strawberry. On the rare occasion that she's not helping an animal in need, Krista can be found antiquing all around Northern Maryland and Pennsylvania. In this episode, Dr. Magnifico narrates how her urge to save animals led her to the war-torn country of Ukraine. She shares her experience from how she prepared for the trip to the day she landed in Romania to when she finally arrived at her designated animal shelter in Ukraine. This episode provides a deep insight into the animal situation in Ukraine and how veterinarians and other volunteers can team up to offer assistance. NETWORK SPONSORS https://sportshistorynetwork.com/row1/ (Row One) - the vintage shop for sports history fans! EPISODE SUMMARY Alex Webster took over as head coach in 1969, and the team had finished the season strong, winning their last three games. But hope faded quickly when the Giants lost their first three games in 1970, with two of those losses coming to bad teams, the Saints and Bears. But, suddenly, the team got hot, winning six games in a row. Two wins came against good teams, the division-leading St. Louis Cardinals and the eventual NFC Champ Cowboys. The Giants' Jeckyl and Hyde season continued. Losing to bad teams and then winning against good ones became the storyline. The Giants reverted to their old ways with another bad loss to the lowly Eagles. It was hard to figure out, too. The Giants had plenty of talented players with Fran Tarkenton at quarterback, rookie Bob Tucker at tight end, Fred Dryer at defensive end, Carl “Spider” Lockhart at safety, and Pete Gogolak at kicker. They also had one of the best running backs in football in the person of Ron Johnson, who came to the Giants in an off-season trade with the Browns. Johnson spent his 1969 rookie season playing second fiddle to future Hall of Fame running back Leroy Kelly. Johnson rushed for 142 yards in a Week Four win over the Eagles, and he had a 200-yard day against the Cowboys–136 yards on the ground and 59 yards through the air. There is evil in the world. I remember President George W. Bush getting in a lot of trouble saying that 20 years ago. But he was right then, and he's right now. This week we will discuss my theory on why the ones who knew God best rejected Him the most; how Dr. Jeckyl thought he could have his cake and eat it too; why I insist on saying Satan is ruling in the world today; and why we avoid one of the most beloved characters in the board gaming world. In this week's episode of We Love Outdoors with Rich Davenport, your humble host reports that spring is here, clocks have now been set to reflect Daylight Savings Time, and the ice season is winding down, although old man winter isn't done with surprises just yet. Coyote season closes March 26, 2022, while all other small game and fur bearer seasons closed Feb 28. NYSCC is holding their Spring meeting at SUNY Cobbleskill on April 9, 2022 from 9AM-4PM, and will be a hybrid format. Committee chairs are advised to hold their committee meetings prior to this day, as no time will be available for the individual committee meetings. The first annual Golf Outing information has also been released by NYSCC, which will be July 11, 2022 at Seneca Falls Country Club. $500 per foursome, with a limit of 20 foresomes, which includes greens fees, carts, beverages and a late lunch and awards. Registration starts 10AM, shotgun start at 11AM, lunch 4:30PM. Sponsorship levels are available, and deadline to register for the outing is July 1. Meanwhile, in Vermont, wildlife officials are working to reduce moose numbers due to tick infestations and how ticks easily winter in large numbers on moose. Looking to add another 100 tags to the mix. And in North Carolina, the return of bear hunting in three bear sanctuaries, as populations are rising, as are conflicts. The ice is still nice, but not for much longer. Winners of the first Chautauqua Lake Ice Derby were awarded their winnings on March 12, with the big winner, also receiving a free walleye charter on Lake Erie from Mostly Muskies Charters. Thank you to Mike Sperry of Chautauqua Reel Outdoors for his tremendous partnership in this event, and to Capt. Larry Jones for donating the charter. Next years' event will be much bigger, and as Angler Tom Cermak remarked, "If you ice fish Chautauqua Lake, you'd be crazy not to enter. With 6 categories, all it takes is one drop of the line and you could win something. It isn't just about walleye!" We are still waiting for the fishing regs to be codified, and should hear something any day now. And the record breaking trend continues as a new Hickory Shad record has been set in Georgia, breaking the old record set last year from the same river. With Spring in the air, bears are moving about - so be bear smart and keep the food away. Spring also means migratory birds are returning, and DEC announced the opening of the Long Island portion of the NYS Birding Trail. NYS DEC also announced the transfer of 34 miles of old rail beds from DOT has been finalized between Tupper Lake and Lake Placid, which marks the start of design and construction of this Tupper Lake to Lake Placid to Sanarac Lake trail corridor for hikers, bikers and snowmobilers. Finally, the renewable green energy fairy tale, something adults should know better than to believe, got another release when Jeckyl and Hyde Basil Seggos and his cadre of zealots released their disadvantaged communities criteria for Climate Justice, and all that is missing is Once Upon a Time. Yet none of what they claim will come to pass, and what is important is what they don't tell you, the truth about electrical energy distribution and delivery. Their climate justice is nothing more than a massive redistribution of wealth, proving the green scheme is only to achieve communism in the name of saving the planet. (0:00-8:24 ) Jorge Medina gloats for speaking it to existence and thanks James Williams for announcing the news that for the first 23 years to the day almost ESPN GameDay is coming to Westwood for the weekend. Is it good for the school that GameDay will be at Westwood or at the Rose Bowl. We feel that having it in Westwood will allow UCLA to use this as their recruiting message and give recruits a chance to see what UCLA is all about. You might not have Oregon fans show up, so its smart having it on campus.(8:25-11:41) UCLA has turned things around after two impress road victories can the Bruins win at home? And should have turned fans sour tastes in the team. We see this as redemption. The LSU game all over again, a chance to show the nation who this team is and what it can do. UCLA has a second chance to show the country that they are a great football team. (11:42-13:25) Should have UCLA been ranked after their victory against Washington and how important are rankings this late in the season when you are just trying to win your conference. If they beat Oregon they will be ranked.(13:26-17:45) The Defense is kind of Jeckyl and Hyde at home and on the road. And they have to make a statement at home, after an impressive showing in big moments against Washington. James Williams feel the defense is getting healthy and getting stronger.(17:46-24:14) Guys that worry Medina and Williams on the Oregon offense that could make it tough on the UCLA defense. QB Anthony Brown and RB Travis Dye, Brown and Dye had big games in their last few games. Dye had 145 yards rushing.(24:15-39:35) How much is the PAC12 disrespected. The rankings show it. Oregon gets disrespected and drops in the rankings, and Ohio State who they beat jumps five spots ahead of them, Oregon beat the Buckeyes with out their best defensive players and Ohio State beats nobodies, and they are now better. Utah beats ASU and still not ranked. The problem is UCLA fans see progress through rankings. And they see the progress of this team, because they are not ranked as high as the no.2 Men's Basketball team, but at 5-2 the team has shown great progress this season.(39:36-47:11) There is a game-changer on the Oregon defense that DTR and the Bruins offense should worry about. And DTR may get hurt if he doesn't play smart. KAVON THIBODEAUX . Look out for the Aaron Donald of the PAC-12. He is a game changer. James Williams also settles the argument that FOX Sports has been pushing on their broadcasts and lets us know DTR's true health status.. Plan should be to stay away from Thibodeaux(47:12-59:25) What in the World Happened to KYLE PHILIPS this weekend? Is he hurt? COVID? Only James Williams can answer this question. And Jorge Medina as a UCLA fan is a little upset why we don't know his status going into the biggest game of season in a tough place to play. (59:26-1:03:53) Predictions for the Game(1:03:53-1:09:47) Do you believe that an Oregon win will move the needle enough for fans and everyone to think that UCLA can win the PAC12 south or Championship or do they need a victory over Utah also. And if the Bruins win the next two should Chip Kelly be off the hot seat?(1:09:47-1:14:54) Enjoy the atmosphere and the team against Oregon and cheer them on. Forget about the losses. So I was talking with a friend of mine the other day about the whole concept of attracting the right relationships into your life. What does this actually mean? I had a history of being involved in toxic relationships. I had reached a breaking point and knew I had to stop the cycle, but couldn't for the life of me understand... Why was I ending up in the same scenario over and over? I'm a genuinely nice person, what ya see is whatcha get, so why is it that I'm attracting Jeckyl and Hyde?! Lol! It took me years to fully understand this. It begins with healing from past wounds, being able to forgive those who hurt you, being able to forgive yourself… and critically important… getting to know yourself. Really know yourself, a full awareness of who you are authentically. As always I share this with you from the most raw and authentic place of my own life experience…
"Bitcoin is the most important innovation to happen to money in 1,000 years." - Vijay Boyapati In this very special episode, Vijay returns to talk with Ced about his new book the Bullish Case for Bitcoin & where we are in this cycle. We discuss: - What are the common mistakes made during a bull run - How a bull market tests your conviction more than a vicious bear market - Is the current cycle different than prior cycles - El Salvador, nation state adoption, inflation & the Berlin Wall - How Bitcoin poses an existential threat to government monetary policy - Bitcoin as a collateral asset - Gartner hype cycles, Bitcoin's fundamentals, the Lindy Effect & tulips - Will countries ban proof of work mining - Mike Hearn, Ron Paul, big tech, Google, Silicon Valley, altcoin season, QE, AMC, Gamestop, meme stocks & so much more
Do you recall MySpace? Well ok, boomer! Just kidding. Social media appeared on the "scene" in the early 2000's and what started as a fun way to share pictures and stories with family and friends has become a Jeckyl and Hyde scenario with respect to the ways social media is used. People use it for eveything from sharing cat videos and tender moments to threatening violence and spreading fake news. Once again, we are reminded of the danger of unintended consequences. We also find out about Matt's private coffee mug collection, so give a listen and leave us you thoughts in the comments section! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/gerry-dempsey/support
