Summary In this episode of the Coaches Roundtable, Chase and Chris answer various fitness-related questions. They discuss the impact of water weight on weight fluctuations and emphasize the importance of tracking fluctuations to understand how the body responds to certain factors. The coaches also provide insights on exercises that can be done at home with or without equipment, and offer tips for building stamina for challenging activities like the Manitou Spring Incline in Colorado. They address the concept of heart rate during workouts and explain that it is more important to focus on movement and overall trends rather than specific heart rate numbers. Additionally, they recommend websites and resources for proper lifting techniques and alternative exercises. The episode concludes with a call for more listener questions. Takeaways Water weight can significantly affect weight fluctuations, but it is not an excuse for weight changes. Tracking fluctuations can help understand how the body responds to certain factors. Exercises can be done at home with or without equipment. Bodyweight exercises can be effective, but adding resistance or getting creative with household items can enhance progress. Building stamina for challenging activities requires gradually increasing intensity and getting accustomed to the environment, such as higher elevations. Heart rate during workouts depends on individual goals, but it is more important to focus on movement and overall trends rather than specific heart rate numbers. Websites like Mind Pump and Jordan Lips' database offer resources for proper lifting techniques. It is important to understand the purpose of each exercise and find alternatives that target the same muscle groups. HIIT training can be done with running or walking, and the intensity should be adjusted based on individual capabilities and goals. When the gym is crowded or certain exercises cannot be performed, alternative exercises can be found by replicating the motion with different equipment. Listeners are encouraged to submit more questions for future episodes of the Coaches Roundtable. I was super excited to get into this episode With Jordan Lips because initially I thought we were going to have a friendly debate about some things. Turns out, I ended up agreeing with almost everything he said in regard to reverse dieting. His take sent some shock waves into the fitness community at first, but he makes a lot of sense in his points. We explored what is reverse dieting, does it work, and do normal every day health enthusiast need to worry about metabolism. Enjoy the show! More about Jordan: I wasn't supposed to be a coach... I was all prepped and ready to head to law school after college to that whole “get a real job” thing but I decided to take a year off to do something I really loved. Little did I realize that “something” would change the course of my future for the next decade+. And truthfully…I sucked at first. I sold pre-made meal plans with way too few calories, I had people tracking calories burned, I subscribed to “cheat meals”….I thought I knew it all. I've made mistakes. I've fucked up. I've been there. But all of those mistakes have made me the coach I am today. http://Jordanlipsfitness.com Get on the waitlist for the next round of The Next Level Experience. In this episode we got to talk to Jordan lips about all things hypertrophy and training You constantly see people talking about the “optimal” way to train and any other way is wrong and it's such a all or nothing statement so how do we really differentiate between what is optimal and what is practical without sacrificing results What makes a good program or taking it from the other end makes a program bad? He is an inspirational coach that you're going to love!In today's episode, we talk about being empowered to make choices that benefit your individual needs and not just subscribing to whatever culture is telling us is the next big health trend. We also dive into specific health goals, like what to do if you want to gain muscle, lose fat, how hormones and weight loss are intertwined, and much more.Grab a cup of coffee (with collagen and cream, of course) and listen in. What's up guys! This week my coach, Jordan Lips, joined me on the podcast! Jordan is a wealth of knowledge, super smart (hence, why I hired him), and all around a great guy! . After receiving a lot of feedback from listeners, clients, and followers, I wanted to bring him on to record an episode about the basics of resistance/strength training! This episode is packed full of great info! . We covered: . How to start working out if you have never been to the gym before or have never experimented with resistance training. . Benefits of hiring a coach to help you with learning more and/or expanding your knowledge for strength training - how to find the best coach for you! Red flags to watch out for in coaches. . Thoughts on HIIT training and group classes (OTF, CrossFit, F45, etc.) . You don't have to be an expert or even have a great understanding of how to work out to get started - just getting into the gym and doing something and working hard is a fantastic way to get started. . What are the different types of splits? How many days should you work out a week?. . How to set up a workout for hypertrophy - he also did an entire podcast on his show about this - CLICK HERE! . The importance of asking WHY when learning more about fitness and strength training. . What is the difference between hypertrophy and strength training? Can you do both if you are new to the gym? . Important terms to understand when first starting to lift weights. . The importance of “working hard!” . Breaking the body up into 4 “quadrants” - pushing and pulling the upper and lower body - examples of each. . Common words used in lift names that cue you to what muscle groups you are working (ex: press, push, row, and pull) . Are you not lifting enough or are you lifting too much - finding that balance. . What are “form videos” and why are they so valuable for your technique and form? . Gym Anxiety / Fear of going to the gym - being uncomfortable with starting out in your first gym or a new gym. . Advantages and disadvantages of working out at home vs. the gym. . Some things that Jordan recommends you have at home if you are working out there. . The BEST piece of advice for someone who has never done any strength training before! . What are “newbie gains” . Thank you SO MUCH, Jordan, for coming on The Chasing Health Podcast!
