In this episode I was joined by Mexican pro Fernanda Lira who has joined from back in Mexico City ahead of a sponsors invite into this week's Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba, the first Mexican event on LPGA Tour in over 8 years. We talk about how prestigious the Mexican events are for the likes of Fernanda, Gaby Lopez, Maria Fassi & Isabella Fierro and the lasting impact of LPGA legend and former World Number 1 player Lorena Ochoa has had on the development for future Mexican players.  Fernanda is from Mexico City and started playing the game at about 6 years old due to the old Mario Golf game along with her brother and went to University of Central Arkansas winning events at college level at UoCA and was Freshman of the Year in her time there where she would also meet her now husband Ryan Shuttleworth who caddies on the LET with Alexandra Swayne currently. Fun fact Fernanda adopted a street dog called Poncho. Fernanda turned Pro in 2019 and would win in 2020 on Women's All Pro Tour at Crown Colony Challenge and would also win on WAPT in 2021 at Mountain Ranch Championship. Fernanda's biggest triumph would be winning 2021 Firekeepers Casino Hotel Championship in Michigan on Epson Tour defeating Isi Gabsa, Sophia Schubert, Danielle Iacobelli & a certain 2x Major Champion and former best player in the world Lilia Vu by a whopping 6 shots. At the end of 2023 Fer would finish T5th at LET Final Q School to gain status for 2024 where she had her Rookie season on Ladies European Tour with best finishes of T22nd at KPMG Women's Irish Open, T32nd at Lacoste Ladies Open de France and T33rd at Amundi German Masters.  Fernanda not only plays this week in Mexico on a sponsors invite but she also got a sponsors invitation to play the next LET event at Tenerife Open in 2 weeks time at Abama Golf.  Download & Like/Subscribe via Podbean, Apple Podcasts & Spotify. Thank you Fernanda all the best for 2025.

In this episode I was pleased to be joined by an integral part of Team USA's success at last week's Solheim Cup the 2023 US Women's Open Champion Allisen Corpuz who phones in from Las Vegas, Nevada took talk about in her own words 'the surreal week' at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia for Solheim Cup that saw Allisen win 3 points out of 4 available including win both Morning Foursomes matches with close friend Nelly Korda & a statement victory over the vastly experienced Anna Nordqvist in the Sunday Singles. We talk everything from Barack Obama being in attendance to Allisen watching Lilia Vu clinch the Cup for the US with a brilliant approach at 18 vs Valenzuela to 2 feet to win.  Allisen assesses life on Tour, her 2024 season which has been consistent including 9 Top 25s & a season best finish of T4th a couple of weeks back in Boston for FM Championship, we discuss the life changing week at Pebble Beach in 2023 for US Women's Open and Starting out as a LPGA Tour member in 2022 after finishing T16 in LPGA Q Series in 2021 to win her LPGA Card. Allisen was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii before enrolling at University of South California from 2016-2021 which included 2021 Curtis Cup win for US (went 3-0-0 that week), 2x Palmer Cup Participant in 2020 & 2021 as well as playing in 3x US Women's Opens as an Amateur while reaching a high of 7th in the World Amateur Rankings. In 2021 Allisen turned Professional and has never looked back since then having had 31 Top 25s since 2022 making 52/67 cuts since then. 2x Solheim Cup Participant for USA (Won 5 out of 8 Matches played) & in 2023 at Pebble Beach Allisen would defeat Charley Hull & Jiyai Shin by 3 shots to win US Women's Open which remains her sole LPGA Tour win.  A hugely consistent and accurate player with a great game. Surely only a matter of time before Corpuz wins more titles.  If you could listen in via Podbean, Spotify & Apple Podcasts that would be great. Appreciate the Support! Enjoy.

We kick off Episode 164 with a look back at the enthralling first Cricket test between England and Sri Lanka, that looked to be in the balance until Joe Root's unbeaten 62 secured the win for England. This was after wicket keeper Jamie Smith had hit his maiden test century in the first innings  At St Andrew's it was the Women's Open Golf, where New Zealand's Lydia Ko triumphed in a very close final round, not only beating rivals Lilia Vu and Ruoning Yin  but also gale force winds to win by 2 strokes to add the Open title to the Olympic Gold she won just two weeks earlier. Olympic champions were also in action in Athletics' Diamond League events-with Jakob Ingebritsen getting revenge on Olympic gold medal winner Cole Hocker in the 1500m in Lausanne, before going on to beat the men's 3,000m record in Silesia. This record had stood for 26 years. Meanwhile the pole vault record of Armand DuPlantis had not even stood for 26 days before he broke it again, adding another centimetre to take the record now to 6.26 metres.  In football we pay tribute to former England manager Sven Goran Erikkson, who sadly passed away aged 76, after a long battle with pamcreatic cancer. We also have then surprise news of England winning a football World Cup on penalties, after the Men's Over 75 team beat hosts Wales on spot kicks. However Wales were triumphant later in the day as their over 70's team won their tournament, with a shoot out win over a team from the USA.  And this week's Get a Grip pours scorn over the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) after they doubled down on a ruling that means if Paralympians could face disqualification from events and annulment of medal results if they have a tattoo of the Olympic Rings showing. The ruling basically bans the Olympic logo at the Olympics. Madness!

It's an unexpected and jubilant Victory Monday for Brendan, who is joined by legendary friend of the program Shane Bacon. The two wander around for a bit talking the Browns upset of the 49ers, a wildly unpredictable NFL, and thermostat negotiations as the season changes. Then they jump into the weekend that was in golf, beginning with the most recent finish out in Vegas. They ponder what to make of Tom Kim, winning at a great clip for such a young age but also feasting on some weaker events. How do we gauge young talents -- what metrics do we prioritize? Then they get to the LIV season finale, or part of it, which happened overnight and was exceedingly difficult to watch. They discuss the lack of juice with all things LIV, Talor Gooch's incredibly successful and lucrative decision to join LIV, the confusing relegation zone, and what's left on the Match Play front. There's also scorn for the decrepit Majesticks franchise. The latter half of the episode covers Angel Yin's first LPGA win, Lilia Vu needing more pub, Brooks Koepka yet again popping Matt Wolff, and Tiger's ridiculous outfit playing golf last week.

But the PGA Tour and the PGA of America submitted their comments on time, and they're opposed. Why have these organizations rallied against the governing bodies? How have equipment companies put their thumbs on the scale? What's the likelihood that the USGA and R&A will cave? Four different guests make an appearance on this week's CoL, hosted by Alex Lauzon and Michael Russell. In New Orleans, a best friend duo claim their first PGA TOUR win together at the team golf Zurich Classic (2:30). In Australia, LIV Golf "made history" with a hole in one from that other Koepka (5:48). Alex was all over Texas last week, including a trip to the LPGA Chevron Classic, where Lilia Vu claimed her first Major and LPGA victory (8:08). Then Alex headed to the PGA TOUR Champions Invited Celebrity Classic, where he chatted with Tennis Pro Jack Sock and last year's celebrity champion Mardy Fish (10:28). For his next adventure, Alex is headed back to a CoL favorite for a professional event with Major implications (17:45). The PGA TOUR heads south for the Mexico Open at Vidanta, where it's Jon Rahm vs the field in a lopsided event (18:49). In Tuned In, Michael is binging Ted Lasso so he can finally watch the final season, while Alex is enjoying some restored footage of 1911 New York City thanks to a TV problem (21:32). Out first featured guest was last on the podcast just after winning her first LPGA Tour event. Gemma Dryburgh chats with Alex from the Chevron about what's happened since her victory, what her fancy toilet is like from Toto, and she chooses a Buc-ees snack to take home (24:23). Our second guest is a Boston legend, former Red Sox and World Series Champion Kevin Millar. Kevin chats with Alex from the Invited Celebrity Classic about what it was like to win it all in 2004, and he shares a personal message to co-host and Yankees fan Michael (33:50). As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex is reveling in his massive Buc-ees eating week thanks to his road trips across the state of Texas (45:15). This Monday episode begins with the NBA minute with both Andy and Brendan wallowing in Cavs and Kings losses, but one still claiming a victory Monday. Then they move to the LPGA's first major of the year, or alleged major. Both express some dismay about the lack of pop at the first Chevron Championship, from the weather to the course to the pace of play. They congratulate Lilia Vu and feel for Angel Yin, but they wonder about what distinguished this event from others on the LPGA circuit. At the Zurich, they discuss the format and what an event like this might do in the future to stand out any more, if that's even possible. There's also a full recounting of John Daly and David Duval's alt shot Friday. LIV's big party down under is discussed, with some praise for the crowds but still questions about the product. The finish is a live viewing of the Charlie Wi vs. Mark Hensby playoff until dark on the Champs Tour.

What a finish this weekend in the Chevron Championship! The new venue at The Club in Carlton Woods got off to a great start in its run as Chevron host with a star-studded leaderboard and a thrilling playoff victory for first-time major champion Lilia Vu. Damon & Eamon discuss her ascendant talent and the long odds she faced to reach the pinnacle of the sport. Vu's big win got her a big shoutout from former Chevron champion and golf legend Lorena Ochoa! The 27-time LPGA Tour winner stopped by to send a congratulatory message to Vu, discuss the rising popularity of golf in Mexico, and share a bit of insight as to when we may see her tee 'em up again... Our crew reacts to how huge this win, and the status that comes with it, will be for the pair as they try to make names for themselves on the PGA TOUR. Hardy and Riley would be the first to tell you that professional golf isn't all glitz and glamor, and longtime golf writer Michael Bamberger has a new book out which tells that side of the story. "The Ball in The Air" tells the story of golfers both fighting for the professional limelight, and those grinding it out for the love of the game. Bamberger and the guys discuss the book, the state of golf media, and why this game captures the imagination. Lorena Ochoa (8:54) Michael Bamberger (28:31)
