Las Vegas is on everyone's mind who follows the world of Division I wrestling and that also means me. There's a bunch of Vegas-related content in the newsletter today, so again, you can find out how to get that daily at the end of the show. I was on the mic Thursday here in the Twin Cities - more on that in a bit, this is Short Time Shots, a look at the day's results in and around college wrestling. Right now, if you hear any banging around, it's because I'm getting a new furnace installed this morning. Yup. Thankfully before it his absolute zero here this winter. Our installer used to wrestle, too. Links: Did you know you can find all the D1 dual meet scores and links to their results at collegewrestlingscoreboard.com AND I've added another redirect to help you follow all the tournaments from every division at collegewrestlingtournaments.com. As to the aforementioned Minnesota match, Division III's top-ranked team, Augsburg, blanked No. 25 Loras 46-0 at Si Melby Hall. Augsburg won four matchups between ranked wrestlers, including returning national champion Sam Stuhl earning an 11-2 major decision over No. 13 Jalen Schropp at 141 pounds. Top-ranked heavyweight Tyler Kim and 184-pounder Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann picked big bonus victories - Kim with the fall and BSO (his name is too long to keep repeating) with the tech. Other scores around Division III saw Carthage beat Elmhurst 29-15, and Central, that's it, just Central, pushed past Augustana (Ill.) 36-9. UW-Stevens Point trounced UW-Oshkoh (B'Gosh) 40-18. Augustana did beat Simpson (Iowa) The only Division I match of the night featured a pair of transitional programs as Bellarmine heads out to Missouri and beat Lindenwood 35-7. There were some exciting duals in Division II, including Kutztown winning the last five bouts to pull away past Seton Hill 34-15. Both of Kutztown's ranked wrestlers - No. 11 Dalton Gimbor at 165 and third-ranked Matthew Weinberg at 184 - won. Gimbor beat Kane Kettering while Weinberg picked up a forfeit. I hate forfeit. Millersville beat East Stroudsburg 23-19. Colorado School of Mines won the last six weights to top New Mexico Highlands 31-13. Colorado Mesa beat rival Western Colorado 24-17. Davenport beat NAIA Cleary 37-12. Down south, Coker blanked Bluefield State (that's in West Virginia), while Belmont Abbey beat Emory & Henry 48-3. Emory & Henry is transitioning from Division III to Division II. In the NAIA, Ottawa beat Avila 35-13. On the women's side, Grand View beat Central Methodist 27-18, Cedar Crest beat Alvernia 32-16 in the school's first ever home women's wrestling dual. Sioux Falls new women's program improved to 2-0 with a win over Minot State 39-13 and Lock Haven beat Elmira 35-12. Subscribe, for free, to my Daily Wrestling News. Not all syrups we drizzle over pancakes, waffles, French toast are created equal. One is not better than the other by any means (they all use ingredients that are produced by farmers), but if you are looking for items that are minimally processed then Pure Maple Syrup is your option. In this episode, Abigail Martin with the Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center joins us again to explore how it's produced, how you can tap a tree in your own backyard, and some of the other maple products out there other than syrup. Plus, don't make the same mistake Amy, Inside the Bullseye's host, did when it comes to trying to for the first time - you'll get a laugh out of this one. We also dig into some fun facts including: Did you know it takes 40 gallons of maple sap to make 1 gallon of maple syrup? . . Why are dairy calves taken away from their mothers? Cow Fitbits? Really, that's a thing? (As we've said before, this isn't your grandfather's way of farming). Have your kids ever asked you some off the wall question like – “Mom, how long is a cow's tongue?” We're answering these and so much more thanks to the help of Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center. It's a one-of-a-kind, hands-on learning facility based in Northeastern Wisconsin where the wonders of agriculture are on full display. Abigail Martin is the program manager at the Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center, supporting their educational mission by bringing new, creative programs and activities to the Farm Wisconsin experience. Even though it's still winter, it is never too early to start planning for crop insurance. Farm director Pam Jahnke had the chance to visit with Deanna Ranum, crop insurance agent with Premier Insurance Solutions. Many conversations are happening trying to make decisions with still so many unknowns for the upcoming growing season. One thing we can say pretty confidently is it looks like rates for crop insurance are on the rise. Each year Cedar Crest Ice Cream partners with the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation to hold their Ice Cream Flavor Creation contest. 4-H members and clubs from around the state get the chance to be creative and come up with their very own new flavor. Luke Kohlwey, Director of Sales for Cedar Crest shares more about the contest and what it takes to make those winning flavors become reality. He has continued to be impressed with 4-H members' creativity and strong involvement in the contest. It's time for our ALCIVIA Coop Talk. Farm director Pam Jahnke catches up with Tom Volkert, Energy Products Specialist. Energy and fuel prices continue to rise. This continues to be not only a domestic issue, but a global issue as well. Volkert and his team at ALCIVIA work hard to serve customers and help them get the most value possible. Matt Tranel, broker with EverAg joins the morning show to talk about all things in dairy and crop markets. Reports show that even though we have seen some strength in our dairy commodity prices, the US butter and cheese prices continue to be quite a bit lower than others in the global marketplace. That makes things very attractive for others and hopefully should encourage exports. The recent USDA cattle report has given some insight for the dairy industry on the number of replacement heifers retained. That number is down from last year and hasn't been this low since 2005. Use of sexed semen and breed-to-beef programs seem to have affected this number and look to limit how quickly dairy farmers may be able to expand their milking herds in the short term. Finally, we are seeing lots of activity in our crop markets. Weather and lower projections from Brazil continue to drive bean prices, and even though China is in the Lunar New Year, there is rumor of them being in need of more soybeans as well. Conflict between Russia and Ukraine also may have a longer term effect on corn and wheat markets, time will only tell based on what happens going forward. Knellsville 4-H Club, Ozaukee County created the winning flavor, Haystack, that features vanilla ice cream with layers of peanuts, caramel and crunch candies. Resist. Redeem. Reclaim. Renew. These are the four words, Dr. Kowlessar lives by, and he uses his knowledge, experience and passion to lead workshops and training sessions at various churches, schools and businesses, on how to develop and implement a sustainable ministry that speaks to the spiritual and social conditions in our world. Dr. Kowlessar has relentlessly pursued community activism and involvement, challenging the church to heed the call of Christ to be relevant and present in the lives of those in need. As a native New Yorker and a transplant to the south, Jaime Kowlessar has seen and experienced a range of injustices, and believes it is the call of God's Church to be His hands and feet in the earth to make the crooked paths, straight. Being a voice for the communities he serves has compelled him to become a stu- dent of people and the scriptures. He has an undergraduate degree in theology from Atlantic Union College, a Masters of Divinity from Andrews University, a Doctorate of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary, and is currently working on his PhD in Public Policy and Social Change. Dr. Kowlessar serves as the Senior Pastor of Dallas City Temple, a congregation that gathers at the doorstep of injustice in the heart of Southern Dallas. As pastor, he leads in the effort to fight inequality by joining with community and local church leaders to implement strategies that improve the economic, educational and spiritual conditions in the Cedar Crest community. He works with the Clergy Table for Faith in Texas which leads and appoints a diverse band of clergy — Catholics, Muslims, Jews, and Christians — to fight against injustice. His thoughts can be read as an op-ed writer for the Dallas Morning News, and a frequent contributor to books and publications on race, equality and social justice. He is also the author of "Justice or Just Us: Sermons and Reflections on the Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness," and "How to Put the Neighbor Back in the Hood. Editor's Note: Due to technical issues with WOBC's radio transmitter, the recording of this show has significantly decreased audio quality. We have done as much as possible to repair the damage, and we apologize for the issues. On May 30, 2017, Carmen Twillie Ambar was named as the 15th President of Oberlin College by the Board of Trustees, and is the first Black woman to hold the position in the College's history. After settling into the job, she announced that under her leadership, the College would begin an Academic and Administrative Program Review (AAPR), a sweeping audit of all college offices, programs, and departments. Under AAPR, a steering committee of faculty, staff, and students will conduct research and analysis from now until next spring, subsequently making recommendations to the board. In her previous role as President of Cedar Crest College, Ambar initiated a similar process. But is that a good thing? Many faculty members don't think so. At Cedar Crest, AAPR resulted in the proposed elimination of five majors; sustained lobbying efforts by students and faculty only saved two of them. What's more, the process was opaque, deceptive, and at times disturbing. No notes were taken of steering committee meetings, leaving no record of how and why certain decisions were made; a faculty member was fired after being told in writing that they would not, leading to a lawsuit against Cedar Crest; and Ambar's chosen consulting firm, Stevens Strategy, made fraudulent claims in a presentation to the Cedar Crest board and engaged in a practice of ranking majors by their financial value. Should we be worried? (Daniel is very worried.) We'll ask President Ambar about that, and also find out why she thinks Oberlin is the best college in the country. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-weekly/support

The Three Principles in Understanding Life, Ourselves and Others: Karma, Reincarnation and Evolution of ConsciousnessAired Sunday, 15 May 2016, 10:00 PM ETAbbot George Burke (Swami Nirmalananda Giri) is the founder and director of the Light of the Spirit Monastery (Atma Jyoti Ashram) in Cedar Crest, NM, USA.In his many pilgrimages to India, he had the opportunity of meeting some of India’s greatest spiritual figures, including Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh and Anandamayi Ma. During his first trip to India he was given sannyas by Swami Vidyananda Giri, a direct disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda, who had himself been given sannyas by the Shankaracharya of Puri, Jagadguru Bharat Krishna Tirtha. In the United States he also encountered various Christian saints, including Saint John Maximovich of San Francisco and Saint Philaret Voznesensky of New York. He was ordained in the Liberal Catholic Church International to the priesthood on January 25, 1974, and consecrated a bishop on August 23, 1975.For many years, Abbot George has been engaged in deep study of the spiritual unity (actual identity) of Jesus Christ and his teachings with India and Sanatana Dharma. It is his conviction that original Christianity (not contemporary “Churchianity”) and original Yoga are not just compatible, they are essentially one; that Jesus lived in India for most of his life, being a Sanatana Dharma missionary to the West, and that after his resurrection he returned to India and lived the rest of his life in the Himalayas. He has written extensively on these and other topics, many of which are posted at www.OCOY.org. His published books include Om Yoga Meditation: Its Theory and Practice, The Gospel of Thomas for Awakening, The Dhammapada for Awakening, and May a Christian Believe in Reincarnation?, all available in print and ebook format from Amazon.com.Website: www.ocoy.orgFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/light.of.spirittwitter: https://twitter.com/Light_of_Spirit
