Send us a Text Message. If you think action movies are all testosterone, think again! We have three movies for you, with ladies kicking some serious butt. You'd better hope that you're not on the wrong side of vengeance, messed with a police officer/martial arts instructor's family, and that you haven't been stealing babies!A child conceived to become an instrument of vengeance? Probably not the best situation to be born into. But she does manage to display some wonderful umbrella sword-related blood spraying and splattering for us. Meiko Kaji IS Lady Snowblood (1973)!An unfortunate mistake causes a martial arts instructor to leave a big city police force, returning to small town Utah, where some rich jerk and his goons are ruining everything. Including eliminating her father, the local sheriff! Can she become the new sheriff, thanks to an emergency election, and make things safe again for the innocent townspeople? Cynthia Rothrock IS China O'Brien (1990)!And then from there, babies are being stolen and taken to the underworld, with one set to become the emperor of China, and the others destined to become evil minions of the Grandmaster! What the hell? Only three women from different perspectives can possibly stop this madness! Maggie Cheung, Michelle Yeoh, and Anita Mui ARE The Heroic Trio (1993)!
In this episode of Heroic Purgatory, we resume our fourth season to talk about the iconic revenge film, Lady Snowblood (1973). We talk about the historical significance of the film, it's phenomenal action set pieces, and Meiko Kaji's role in the film's everlasting longevity. We hope you enjoy our discussion! Join Luke, Mitch and Vonn as they discuss female assassins on quests for vengeance in this ninja-rrific episode of High & Low. First we chat about hypertensive villains, bamboo wives and inappropriate naming conventions in the 1973 genre classic "Lady Snowblood" starring the amazingly talented Meiko Kaji. For our "low" pick we're talking 2005's Marvel comics dud "Elektra" starring Jennifer Garner. A film nobody asked for and nobody liked.Producers note: I apologize for the microphone 'bonking' sounds in the second half of the episode. We have identified the guilty party and they have been mercilessly scoured and flogged.

Content warning: Depictions of sexual assault and suicide. During the Meiji period, Japanese society was seemingly split between those who desired the modernization that came with Western influence and those who insisted on upholding a “pure” Japan marked by tradition and classical thought – all in the borders of one country. LADY SNOWBLOOD is two things, too: It's a stylish manga adaptation about a demonic daughter exacting revenge for her family's suffering AND it's a finger in the eye of both ideals against which Japanese society was measured at the turn of the century. And yeah, it inspired KILL BILL (2003), but I haven't seen that, so let's talk about it more on its own terms, okay? Quentin Jerome Tarantino (born March 27, 1963) is an American filmmaker, actor, film critic and author. His films are characterized by frequent references to popular culture and film history, nonlinear storylines, dark humor, stylized violence, extended dialogue, pervasive use of profanity, cameos and ensemble casts. Tarantino is also known for his choice of music in his films, including soundtracks that often use songs from the 1960s and 70s. This episode features 70 tracks curated by Tarantino and that he has used within his work. Loosely adapted from Kazuo Koike and Kazuo Kamimura's manga series, Lady Snowblood is a chanbara film centering on a young lady (Meiko Kaji) striving to enact vengeance for the murder of her father and rape of her mother. Filled with stylized melodrama, bold storytelling choices, and gallons of cartoonish gore, Lady Snowblood struck enough of a chord to result in a sequel, at least two remakes, a slot in the Criterion Collection, and a loving homage in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill movies. Ryan is joined by Cheryl and Sylvan for a closer look at this mesmerizing action movie. Discussion topics include Meiko Kaji's thousand yard stare, the story's interpretation of the Meiji period, how Lady Snowblood reflects the 1970's more often than its period setting, and how the story's use of Buddhist principles stand in contrast to the dictates of the chanbara genre. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ryan-valentine3/support

That's right ladies and gentleman we are back and it is October! We did not plan out two horror movies to kick off the spookiest time of the year but man alive did Tyler kind of nail it with these two fine examples of Japanese filmmaking! Both films star the lovely and extremely talented Meiko Kaji! Up first we dive into her 1970's film about a woman gang leader who is truly being haunted by the sins of her past with the outrageously blood Blind Woman's Curse! Following that we take a jump two years into the future when it becomes clear that Ms. Kaji is going from star to straight up Icon with the start to a very famous series in Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion! Spoiler Alert: Kaji's outfit rules and we are aware this is episode 121 despite us thinking we are on 111!
Podcast herunterladen

This week Dave takes it upon himself to amend two grievous oversights. After learning about gaps in cohost viewings, and making some small sacrifices to Meiko Kaji for guidance, a vision was given unto Dave and he cheated the random pick pull to bring everyone to deliverance. Born to avenge her family, trained through her entire childhood, finally unleashed and hell bent on gory revenge. Yuki seeks out those who killed her father and brother and spent days raping and torturing her mother. Raising standard samurai exploitation to the highest of visual poetry, not even death can keep Lady Snowblood from her satisfaction. Harold is bored and the only thing that keeps him entertained is a light spot of dramatic suicide. His mother, uncle, and therapist don't understand him and he can't live the life they proscribe for him. Then one day, at another crashed funeral, Maude drifts into his life. A dark comedy about existential anxiety and what might be found when you embrace it. One of cinema's greatest love stories, Harold & Maude. All that and Kevin gets dirty in Cape Town, Tyler spirals in nostalgia, and Dave runs out of places to hide his sacrifices. Episode 205- Harold and Yuki
On this episode of Killer Bs we talk about the queen of Japanese exploitation, Meiko Kaji. We also discuss films like STRAY CAT ROCK: BEAT 71 and BLIND WOMAN'S CURSE. We talk about her influence on Quentin Tarintino and some history about the Japanese film industry.

For our first October horror episode of 2020, Byrd, Matt, and Tom are joined by Trev (Failure To Franchise, Days of Future Podcast) to discuss two shockers from exploitation maestro, Teruo Ishii. First, we discuss Toei's controversial mad scientist tale, Horrors of Malformed Men, which was pulled from theaters and languished for decades under a studio imposed ban. Then we discuss the Nikkatsu yakuza/horror/action mashup, Blind Woman's Curse, starring the iconic Meiko Kaji. In addition to our movie reviews, we also discuss Teruo Ishii's tokusatsu beginnings, atomic age anxiety, Butoh dance, Japanese societal taboos, Edogawa Rampo, pink cinema, the badassness of Meiko Kaji, ghost cats, and more! But first, we have news about SRS' upcoming blu-ray release of the Korean oddity, the Flying Monster, Takashi Miike's Yokai sequel, and our reactions to the Monster Hunter trailer.
On this episode we check out one of Meiko Kaji's most memorable characters in the first of the female prisoner scorpion movies as she plays a former police spy on a mission of revenge against her ex-boyfriend while trying to survive the gangs and corrupt guards inside the prison in a film possibly best described as art-house sleaze.
In this episode we discuss the Meiko Kaji driven revenge flick 'Lady Snowblood'. We also get slightly off track and talk about my love for zoom lenses. No booze for this episode unfortunately.
Martin is joined by returning guest Spencer Seams get together to to discuss the Meiko Kaji starring film Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion and its sequels.

THUS DAWNS THE NEW ERA OF CINEPUNX, ALL TIME SHALL HENCE BE MARKED ANNO CINEPUNXI! Oh, hi friends, we finally have Episode 101 for you. WE HOPE YOU LIKE IT! We want to start with a HUGE thank you to all the awesome folks who participated in our HUNDREDTH episode, as well as those of you who shared it with your friends. It is one we pretty proud of and we are so thankful folks were willing to participate at all. So the genesis of this new episode is pretty simple. If you listen back to our LADY SNOWBLOOD episode you will hear us promise to cover more Meiko Kaji on future episodes. Well, we would love to say we conceived of this as a fitting follow up, but in reality we stumbled into it a little. Basically I was curious to do some Pinky Violence films, and only once we started researching options did we discover that two great choices featured the amazing Kaji and we remembered our promise. So here we are. We discuss a lot, and I mean A LOT of stuff before getting to the meat, but the only links I think need to be given are OUR SPONSORS LVAC AND THE FINERY PRE-ORDER OF THE NEW CROSSED KEYS RECORD ROUGH/CUT (PLEASE NOT JUST TO BUY A SHIRT BUT TO TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS) EXHUMED FILMS OUR FRIENDS IN SUNSTROKE, NO REASON OUR FRIEND ADRIANNA IS CURATING A STREAMING CHANNEL FOR RUE MORGUE hey thanks for listening, follow us on all socials, check out our patreon, tell all your friends about us The post CINEPUNX Episode 101: MEIKO KAJI MANIA (DELINQUENT GIRL BOSS, FEMALE PRISONER SCORPION: 701) appeared first on Cinepunx.

Japanese actress and singer Meiko Kaji has performed in over 100 films in Japan. But despite never turning her sights on Hollywood her impact is still felt. Most notably it was her starring role in Lady Snowblood that heavily influenced Tarantino's Kill Bill series.
This week Ben the Beardo and Dick Fetti dive back into one of their favorite topics, sexual fetishes. But beware, this one is not for the faint of heart or stomach because the boys cover coprophilia (aka scat aka poo-poo) and lolicon. So if you want to learn the how and why of scat and the history of loli, now's the time. But to start things off in traditional fashion, the Dick and the Beardo review the Japanese surrealist exploitation film "Female Convict Scorpion: Jailhouse 41" (1972) by Shunya Ito (伊藤 俊也), starring Meiko Kaji (梶 芽衣子).
ALERT: Starting with the next episode this podcast will start appearing in your feed as VIEWMASTERS! If you are already subscribed then you don't need to do anything except remember we've moved. With that out of the way, it's time to discuss LADY SNOWBLOOD, Toshiya Fujita's stylish adaptation of Kazuo Koike's classic manga with an unforgettable central performance by Meiko Kaji. Blood Rage Theme cover by Matt Akers as always. It rules. Check out his bandcamp! Our new show about sitcoms will be appearing on off weeks and starts next week.

Was auch an unserem neuen Regisseur Yasuharu Hasebe liegen mag.

Set up at the turn of the century, The Nikkatsu Corporation halted production during the war years, only to return with a vengeance in the mid-50s for a long run of genre-defining cinema. From the "Sun Tribe" films of a new, more freespirited youth culture to a strong (if somewhat belated) Japanese take on Film Noir through to their famed "Borderless Action" films, Nikkatsu was the go to company for such internationally feted directors as Keiichi Ozawa, Yasaharu Hasebe, Chusei Sone, Koreyoshi Kurahara and the much beloved Seijun Suzuki! Introducing the world to such Asian screen icons as Akira Kobayashi, Jo Shishido, Yujiro Ishihara and Meiko Kaji, Nikkatsu would eventually leave their gangster films, action and even "pinky violence" epics behind in favor of a more cost-effective (and quite voluminous) exclusive focus on "pink film" (with starlets like Naomi Tani, Ran Masaki and Junko Mabuki in tow). Join us tonight as we speak to the earlier end of the Nikkatsu history, as we talk Sun Tribe, Nikkatsu Noir, Borderless Action and Seijun Suzuki, only here on Weird Scenes Inside the Goldmine! Week 39 Nikkatsu pt. 1: Sun Tribe, Noir, Borderless Action and Seijun Suzuki
