An 84 year old woman is missing in Tucson. The President posted a racist video and won't apologize. The DNI is seizing voting machines. And Kamala Harris just relaunched her social media. It's been a week. Let's get into it.In This Episode:The Disappearance of Nancy GuthrieDay six of the search for Savannah Guthrie's mother, taken from her Arizona home in the middle of the night. We break down the full timeline, the ransom notes sent to media outlets, the FBI's warning about AI deepfakes complicating proof of life, the arrest of a fake ransom scammer, a new message being analyzed by investigators, a vehicle of interest at a Tucson Circle K, and the towing of a car from Nancy's property Friday evening. Still no suspects. Still no proof of life. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward. The President Posted What?!Late Thursday night, Trump's Truth Social account shared a video depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes, during Black History Month. The White House called the backlash "fake outrage." Then Tim Scott called it "the most racist thing I've seen out of this White House." Then Republicans started calling the President directly. Then it came down. Then they blamed a staffer. Then Trump said he won't apologize. We walk through every layer.Tulsi Gabbard and the Election Conspiracy Road ShowThe Director of National Intelligence showed up at an FBI raid in Georgia, seized voting machines in Puerto Rico, skipped the capture of Nicolás Maduro, and has a classified whistleblower complaint locked in a safe alleging she restricted intelligence for political purposes. We connect the dots between all of it.Kamala Harris and the Return of KamalaHQHarris relaunched her campaign accounts as "Headquarters," a youth mobilization project that is very obviously a 2028 campaign in disguise. Robin makes the data driven case for why the Democratic Party needs to move on, including the 21 point youth vote collapse, underwater favorability numbers, and what happens when a party chooses familiarity over a real reckoning.Key Sources & ReferencesPima County Sheriff's Department press conferences (Feb. 5–6, 2026)FBI Phoenix Division, SAC Heith Janke statementsNBC News, CBS News, CNN, ABC News, Fox 10 Phoenix — Nancy Guthrie coverageWashington Post, NYT, NBC News, CBS News, CNN, CNBC, Axios, The Hill — Trump/Obama video coverageReuters — Tulsi Gabbard Puerto Rico voting machine investigationWall Street Journal — Gabbard whistleblower complaint reportingCiviqs, Marquette Law School, Catalist — Harris polling and post election dataConnect With Us
A firearm was recovered from Michael McKee's Chicago condo. The NIBIN ballistics database allegedly matched it to shell casings found where Spencer and Monique Tepe were shot sixteen times. That's how fast this case unraveled—two bodies on December 30th, an arrest 350 miles away on January 10th.McKee allegedly went dark on his phone for 18 hours during the murder window. Swapped stolen plates from two different states onto his vehicle. Had over a decade of surgical training in precision and planning.Investigators still caught him in 11 days.True Crime Today examines both sides: the forensic investigation that caught a man who allegedly tried not to be caught, and the defense strategy that will try to create reasonable doubt anyway.Former FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer breaks down the investigative architecture. The surveillance footage analysis that first flagged McKee's vehicle. The NIBIN ballistics hit. The coordination between Columbus Police, FBI, Chicago PD, and Illinois authorities.Coffindaffer explains what an 18-hour phone blackout actually tells investigators—and how they reconstruct movements when someone has deliberately created a digital gap. The stolen Ohio and Arizona plates looked like counter-surveillance. They became their own forensic trail. Then defense attorney Eric Faddis reveals the playbook McKee's team is preparing. The pretrial fight to exclude testimony about alleged abuse never reported to police. The hearsay battle over three statements Monique allegedly told friends—that McKee could "kill her at any time," that she would "always be his wife."She can't testify. Can her words still convict him?For every piece of evidence, Eric reveals the innocent explanation the defense might offer. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
On the Dopey podcast, Nick Reiner admitted to throwing a rock through a window specifically to "prove he was crazy" and manipulate staff into giving him drugs. That wasn't speculation from a prosecutor. That was Nick, in his own words, explaining how he gamed the system. Now he's reportedly expected to plead not guilty by reason of insanity for the stabbing deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. This episode traces Nick Reiner's cognitive architecture across nearly a decade of interviews and podcast appearances. We examine how he convinced his parents to publicly apologize for listening to doctors. How he co-wrote a film—Being Charlie—that blamed his father for his failures, and got Rob Reiner to direct it. How he chose homelessness over following rules, knowing the safety net would always be there. Then we hear from Danny Spilar, who shared a room with Nick in a $60,000-a-month Malibu rehab when both were teenagers. According to Danny, the hatred was there from the beginning. Nick would stay up after lights out ranting about his parents. He was violent—attacking another teen, getting physical with Danny. And he blamed everything on his parents' fame. This wasn't after years of drug damage. This was the baseline.Danny says he knew exactly who killed Rob and Michele the moment he saw the headlines. He doesn't buy the insanity defense. And he thinks jurors won't either—not when they hear Nick's own admissions about manipulating treatment providers.Eighteen rehab stays. Two parents who never stopped trying. What happens when addiction becomes an identity and the people trying to save you become the enemy? For families living this nightmare right now—this one's for you.#NickReiner #RobReiner #MicheleSingerReiner #DannySpilar #DopeyPodcast #InsanityDefense #BeingCharlie #BrentwoodMurder #HiddenKillers #TrueCrimeJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Ohio plates. Arizona plates. Both allegedly stolen. Both allegedly used on the same SUV—the one surveillance footage captured near the home where Spencer and Monique Tepe were found dead with sixteen gunshot wounds between them.Michael McKee is a surgeon. A planner. Someone who allegedly went dark on his phone for 18 hours during the murder window. Someone who allegedly scrubbed the distinctive sticker off his vehicle after the arrest. He still got caught in 11 days.Former FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer joins Hidden Killers Live to explain exactly where McKee's counter-surveillance allegedly failed. The NIBIN ballistics database hit that linked a firearm in his Chicago condo to the Tepe crime scene in Columbus. The multi-jurisdictional coordination that moved faster than most single-agency homicides. The forensic trail that was waiting for investigators before they even knew his name. What does an 18-hour phone blackout actually tell investigators? Coffindaffer explains how they reconstruct movements when someone has deliberately created a digital gap—and why silence can be just as incriminating as data. Then defense attorney and former prosecutor Eric Faddis reveals how McKee's team will try to create reasonable doubt. The hearsay fight over three devastating statements Monique allegedly told friends before she was killed. The motion to exclude testimony about abuse that was never reported or prosecuted. The innocent explanations that might be offered for every piece of physical evidence.McKee waived his bail hearing. Eric explains what that signals. The indictment alleges either an automatic weapon or a suppressor—charged in the alternative. Three major cases. One defense attorney with prosecution experience. Eric Faddis joins Hidden Killers Live to analyze the evidence, legal exposure, and defense strategies in the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping, Charity Beallis family deaths, and McKee/Tepe murder case.Nancy Guthrie was taken from her Tucson home. The 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie. Forced entry. DNA evidence. Bitcoin ransom demands sent to media, not family. Pacemaker data tracking. No suspects. Faddis breaks down how cryptocurrency ransom and medical device evidence get handled in court—and why the sheriff's contradictory statements create problems for prosecutors.Charity Beallis and her six-year-old twins were found shot to death the day after her divorce was finalized. Her father says she was shot twice. Two months later, still no arrest. The documented history: 2025 strangulation arrest, substantiated child maltreatment, a prior wife dead under similar circumstances. Faddis explains what's holding up charges and what defense looks like given this background. The McKee affidavit alleges eight years of obsession leading to the Tepe murders. Surveillance footage of McKee in the victims' yard while they were away. Stolen plates. Years of threats. A phone that went silent during the killing window. Automatic weapon or silencer specifications. No forced entry. Faddis analyzes the prosecution's case and where defense attorneys will push.A kidnapping where no one has been identified. A triple homicide where no one has been charged. A double murder where the affidavit documents alleged years of planning.Eric Faddis provides legal analysis across all three—prosecution roadmaps, defense strategies, and the evidence thresholds that determine what happens next.#NancyGuthrie #CharityBeallis #MichaelMcKee #TepeMurders #EricFaddis Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? In 1999, Logan Marr was kidnapped, and the state of Maine thought it was for the best. In their eyes, the toddler's mother was too poor, too uneducated, too redneck to raise her baby girl. So, they gave her to someone who could. And then someone else. And then someone else. Until finally, in 2001, Christy Marr was finally given back her baby girl: in a casket. This isn't our typical story. This is the story of a legal kidnapping, a desperate mother, a corrupt system, and a state employee who believed she was above the law until finally… she wasn't. - Sources:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eTYeCoYyxm58DXXdoFbHQyWHlWbcH9iKGIefFcQToW4/edit?tab=t.y2yayotxnlcb Listen to our new show, "THE CONSPIRACY FILES"!: -Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/5IY9nWD2MYDzlSYP48nRPl -Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-conspiracy-files/id1752719844 -Amazon/Audible - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/ab1ade99-740c-46ae-8028-b2cf41eabf58/the-conspiracy-files -Pandora - https://www.pandora.com/podcast/the-conspiracy-files/PC:1001089101 -iHeart - https://iheart.com/podcast/186907423/ -PocketCast - https://pca.st/dpdyrcca -CastBox - https://castbox.fm/channel/id6193084?country=us - Stay Connected: Join the Murder in America fam in our free Facebook Community for a behind-the-scenes look, more insights and current events in the true crime world: https://www.facebook.com/groups/4365229996855701 If you want even more Murder in America bonus content, including ad-free episodes, come join us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/murderinamerica Instagram: http://instagram.com/murderinamerica/ Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/people/Murder-in-America-Podcast/100086268848682/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/MurderInAmerica TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@theparanormalfiles and https://www.tiktok.com/@courtneybrowen Feeling spooky? In a lot of ways, the world is smaller now than it ever has been. With a few clicks of the mouse, I can watch a live camera feed of Sydney harbor, or read a newspaper from any country I can think of. Just five hours in an airplane can get you from the US to Europe, and pretty much anyone on the planet can listen to a couple of nerds like us on a podcast. But, obviously, the world is not in fact shrinking. It is still just as vast and potentially perilous as it was in the days when no one knew what lay on the other side of the ocean, and all it takes to bring that home is to lose connection to our world of technology and information. Our story is about a man's unimaginable journey through the ocean wilderness, driven by nothing but his wits and his will to survive.*Registration is now open for CrimeWave 2.0! In this special episode, I revisit the murder of Vicky Hall in Felixstowe in 1999.Today, serial killer Steve Wright was sentenced for Vicky's murder, his sixth known killing. I break down the developments from court at the sentencing hearing, reflect on the police investigation and its unanswered questions, explore why Wright may have chosen to confess after so many years, and consider what this case means for the possibility of further undiscovered victims.Join me at TrueCrimeFest in London in Marchhttps://www.truecrimefest.co.uk/Buy My New True Crime Content Creators Online Coursehttps://adam-s-site-be58.thinkific.com/products/courses/true-crime-content-creation-courseWatch my YouTube channelhttps://www.youtube.com/@Adam-uktruecrime/videosListen/Watch the True Crime Catch Uphttps://audioalways.lnk.to/TrueCrimeCatchUpFind Our More About Mehttps://uktruecrime.comJoin UK True Crime Facebook Grouphttps://www.facebook.com/groups/UKTrueCrime Hosted on Acast. The affidavit charging Michaell McKee with aggravated murder in the deaths of Spencer and Monique Tepe has been unsealed. What's inside reads like a chronicle of obsession—surveillance footage, stolen plates, threats spanning years, and digital silence during the murder window.Defense attorney Eric Faddis joins True Crime Today to analyze what this evidence means for both prosecution and defense.Surveillance footage places McKee in the Tepes' yard on December 6th or 7th. Spencer and Monique were in Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship game. That's not presence—that's reconnaissance. Faddis explains how pre-offense surveillance supports prior calculation and design charges. The threat evidence spans nearly a decade. Witnesses told investigators McKee said he could "kill her at any time," would "find her and buy the house right next to her," and that Monique "will always be his wife." Those statements came during and after their marriage. How do prosecutors introduce historical threats—and what challenges will the defense raise?Firearm specifications are unusual. The indictment charges automatic weapon or silencer-equipped firearm in the alternative. Faddis explains what that hedging signals and how it affects sentencing exposure.McKee's phone went silent from December 29th until after noon on December 30th. The murders occurred around 3:50 a.m. How do prosecutors frame digital absence as evidence of planning?Vehicle tracking connected a silver SUV to McKee's address and workplace. That vehicle appeared near the Tepe home displaying stolen plates. Monique Tepe allegedly knew for eight years that her ex-husband had threatened to kill her. She divorced Michael McKee in 2017 after just seven months of marriage. Witnesses told investigators he strangled her, forced unwanted sex, told her he could end her life. She never filed a public report. She rebuilt everything — new husband, two kids, a life. On December 30th, she and Spencer were found dead in their Columbus home. McKee pleaded not guilty despite surveillance footage, a ballistics match, and documented threats.Mica Miller made fourteen police reports in her final months. Reported GPS trackers, harassment, fear for her life. Told her family if she ended up with a bullet in her head, it wasn't her. Two days after serving Pastor JP Miller divorce papers, she was dead. Ruled suicide. JP just pleaded not guilty to federal cyberstalking while the indictment alleges tracking devices, a nude photo posted without consent, fifty-plus contacts in one day, and lies to investigators.Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott — author of "The Minds of Mass Killers" and a DV survivor herself — connects these cases. She explains the psychological burden of living under threat, why victims don't report, how coercive controllers weaponize systems against their targets, and the forensic profile of defendants who treat prosecution as competition. Two women. Two failures. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
The unsealed affidavit in the McKee case documents what prosecutors describe as nearly a decade of alleged obsession with Monique Tepe. Surveillance footage shows Michael McKee in the Tepes' yard days before the murders—while Spencer and Monique were out of town. Witnesses describe years of threats. Stolen plates. A phone that went dark during the killing window.Defense attorney Eric Faddis analyzes what this evidence means for the prosecution's case and where the defense might push back. The surveillance footage is central. McKee captured on camera walking through the victims' property while they attended the Big Ten Championship game in Indianapolis. That's pre-offense reconnaissance, and Faddis explains how prosecutors use that to establish prior calculation and design. The threats span years. Witnesses told investigators McKee said he could "kill her at any time," would "find her and buy the house right next to her," and that Monique "will always be his wife." How does that historical evidence get introduced—and what threshold does the prosecution need to meet?Firearm specifications are charged in the alternative: automatic weapon or silencer. The weapon hasn't been recovered. Faddis walks through what those specifications signal and how they affect sentencing.Digital evidence creates circumstantial support. McKee's phone showed no activity from December 29th through noon on December 30th—covering the 3:50 a.m. estimated time of death. How do prosecutors frame silence as guilt? The vehicle evidence is layered. A silver SUV tracked to McKee appeared near the Tepe home displaying stolen plates. After arrest, scrape marks showed a distinctive sticker had been removed. No forced entry was found. The aggravated burglary charge suggests prosecutors have a theory about how McKee gained access.McKee waived extradition and pleaded not guilty. More than 25 years after the crime was committed, a man already serving a whole life order for five murders has pleaded guilty to killing again. This admission dates back to 1999, years before Ipswich became a crime scene, and years before his name was known to the public. This afternoon, serial murderer Steven Wright stood at The Old Bailey once more, and was sentenced to 40 years in prison for a murder that lay unresolved for decades. This is the story of a person whose violence didn't begin where most people think it did. Long before the discovery of were Tania Nicol, Gemma Adams, Anneli Alderton, Annette Nicholls, and Paula Clennell in and around Ipswich, there were warning signs, near misses, and unanswered questions. Some of them were reported at the time. Others only make sense in hindsight. But together, they paint a picture of behaviour that was escalating quietly, went largely unnoticed, and was ultimately catastrophic.Exclusive content:Patreon - Ad Free, Early Access, Exclusive EpisodesFollow the show:British Murders with Stuart BluesDisclaimer:The case discussed in this podcast episode is real and represents the worst day in many people's lives. I'm driving just east of Wendover, Nevada near the Bonneville Salt Flats. Two days on the road through wide-open country that has swallowed lives and truths. I'm starting near where Dylan Rounds was murdered and now making my way into West Wendover, where 16-year-old Micaela “Mickey” Costanzo disappeared after track practice. She was later found in a shallow grave out on the outskirts of town. It's a place where people think the area's too small for something like this. The story ultimately destroyed three families. She was murdered by her childhood friend and his new lover, and the case still leaves people arguing about motive, control, jealousy, and what “the truth” really is. Both convicted killers are still telling different stories. #ProfilingEvil #TrueCrime #Nevada #Utah #Wendover #WestWendover #BonnevilleSaltFlats #WendoverWill #MicaelaCostanzo #MickeyCostanzo #KodyPatten #ToniFratto #ElkoCounty #GravelPits #TeenMurder #DylanRounds #JamesBrenner #ElyNevada #PaulJohnKnowles #EmmettAlexanderJohnson #LoisMildredJohnson #Tonopah #OldTonopahCemetery #ClownMotel #HighDesert #ColdCaseFiles #MissingPerson #JusticeForMicaela========================================https://gamutpodcasts.com/show/gardensofevilinsidethezionsocietycult/========================================20% OFF Newspapers.comhttps://www.newspapers.com/go/podcast/?ref=profilingevil?xid=8877&utm_source=ProfilingEvilPodcast&utm_medium=podcst&utm_campaign=ProfilingEvil26========================================Email your questions to: ProfilingEvil@gmail.com========================================
On November 11, 2013, a motorcyclist riding in a remote stretch of the Mojave Desert came across something that did not belong to the landscape. The area lay north of Victorville, not far from Interstate 15 but far enough that engine noise fades and the wind carries most of the sound. The ground was hard and pale, broken by scrub and scattered rock. In that dirt, the rider saw what appeared to be a human skull. He stopped. He called authorities. Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department responded. The location was isolated but accessible by dirt road. The initial discovery was small — a skull partially exposed in desert soil — but the scene widened quickly. Deputies secured the area and began a systematic search. Within hours, investigators realized the find was not a single set of remains. Two burial sites were identified. They were shallow. The soil was loose compared to the surrounding terrain, disturbed and then pressed back down. The graves would later be referred to in reports as Grave A and Grave B. In total, four sets of human remains were recovered. On November 15, 2013, San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon addressed the media. He confirmed that the remains recovered in the desert had been identified as belonging to Joseph McStay, age 40; his wife, Summer McStay, age 43; and their two sons, Gianni, age 4, and Joseph Jr., age 3. The McStay family had been missing since February 4, 2010. For nearly four years, their case had lived in a different category — disappearance, possible voluntary departure, international travel theory, Mexico speculation. The discovery in Victorville ended that ambiguity. The McStays had not relocated. They had not started over. They had not walked across a border and vanished into another country. They had been killed.Sources: https://coronadotimes.com/event/down-to-the-bone-caitlin-rother-and-the-mcstay-family-murders/https://www.cbs8.com/article/news/judge-unseals-court-records-in-mcstay-murder-case/509-5297be95-2f41-4ce7-931e-8c3dc98e0918https://allthatsinteresting.com/mcstay-family-murdershttps://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/missing-mcstay-family-cross-mexico/story?id=10042816https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/mcstay-family-murder-trial-charles-merritt-closing-arguments-jury/159073/https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-mcstay-family-deaths-20190120-story.htmlhttps://www.sbsun.com/2019/03/11/key-prosecution-evidence-flopped-in-mcstay-family-murder-case-defense-contends/https://www.sbsun.com/2019/03/11/key-prosecution-evidence-flopped-in-mcstay-family-murder-case-defense-contends/https://abc7.com/post/mcstay-murders-merritt-attorneys-poke-holes-in-timeline/5190475/https://www.cnn.com/2014/07/01/justice/mcstay-case-five-questionshttps://press.wbd.com/us/media-release/investigation-discovery/go-inside-controversial-and-shocking-trial-charles-chase-merritt-mcstay-familyBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/kinda-murdery--5496890/support.

On December 27th 2010, Georgia State Trooper First Class Chadwick LeCroy pulled over a car with a broken taillight on Bolton Road in northwest Atlanta. It should have been routine. Instead, it became the first fatal shooting of a Georgia trooper in thirty-five years. The man behind the wheel was Gregory Favors, a thirty-year-old career criminal with eighteen prior arrests stretching back to 1998. He'd been convicted of drug charges, weapons violations, forgery, and obstruction. He was on active probation in Cobb County. And he should have been in prison. This episode digs into everything that went wrong before that night. The rocket docket system that fast-tracked felonies and handed out lenient sentences to clear overcrowded jails. The July hearing where a prosecutor asked for four years and a judge gave sixty days. The December thirteenth release when no officer showed up to testify and a known flight risk walked free on a signature bond. The missed court appearance the morning of the murder that should have triggered a bench warrant. We examine the finger-pointing between District Attorney Paul Howard, Mayor Kasim Reed, APD Chief George Turner, and Chief Judge Cynthia Wright. We look at the failed push for Chad's Law and the reforms that came too little, too late. And we remember the man behind badge 744, the trooper who spent his whole life dreaming of wearing the uniform and finally got his chance at thirty-six years old. This is the story of a death that didn't have to happen.

In October 1986, two young girls vanished in Brighton, Sussex, England. 9 year old Nicola Fellows and Karen Hadaway were playing in Wild Park when a monster murdered them. The main suspect was identified quickly, but missteps in the investigation led to an acquittal. Thankfully, investigators did not give up and over three decades later, the girls finally got justice. The case became known as “The Babes in the Wood” murders after a classic English children's tale and was one of Sussex's longest investigations. Click here to join our Patreon. In December of 2024, I shared an episode about a 24-year-old musician whose life was cut short in New Haven, Connecticut in 1990. More than three decades later, the murder of John Evers Robinson remains unsolved and the questions surrounding what happened to him have only grown more complicated with time.I'm bringing this story back because it needs your attention and action in a new way. Here's John's sister, Jocelyn Jackson.“It's been 35 years since a family member picked me up from high school and told me as we drove to the airport that my brother John was dead. I immediately went silent and started crying. When we got to the airport, it was to hug my mom through tears before she got on a plane to fly to New Haven. All I could think was that my big brother wasn't in the world anymore. That moment left an indelible mark on my perception of the world. That moment was the beginning of my instinct to never stop seeking for justice, to never let the people who did this think they got away with murder. Those feelings I felt on that day with my family are the eternal repository of energy that I pull from each year as I continue to invite accountability for my brother's brutal unsolved murder. Unfortunately, a lot of families know this feeling. The feeling of decades passing, sometimes even knowing who's responsible, but never enough evidence to get resolution. Every year I actively continue the momentum of his case by sharing his story in a new way. This year it's by starting a petition on change.org to increase the reward money for new leads from witnesses. We know a lot of time has passed, but over the last few years as we've talked to John's friends and visited New Haven, we have experienced how fresh people's memories are still of John, and of the time that he went missing, and then was found dead. We believe that there are people out there who know more and can share more than they ever have before. Please come forward and share what you know. The smallest detail combined with other new leads can be what either links all the other information together or alternatively, finally destabilizes the code of silence amongst the co-conspirators that's been kept for all these years. Thank you for taking the time to sign this petition. Thank you for helping us keep the momentum strong. It's heartbreaking to think how much more harm has been caused in these last 35 years by the same people who killed my brother. We believe my brother knew his killers. We finally want to know them, too.”If you have information regarding the 1990 murder of John Evers Robinson in New Haven, Connecticut, please contact the Connecticut Cold Case Unit at 1 (866) 623-8058 or the New Haven Police Department at 1 (866) 888-8477.You can sign the petition to increase the reward for new leads in the 1990 unsolved murder of John Evers Robinson here.View source material and photos for this episode at: darkdowneast.com/stillmissing-johneversrobinson Dark Downeast is an Audiochuck and Kylie Media production hosted by Kylie Low.Follow @darkdowneast on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTokTo suggest a case visit darkdowneast.com/submit-case Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Surveillance footage. A ballistics match. A cell phone that went dark during the murder window. Years of documented threats. Michael McKee looked at all of it and pleaded not guilty. He waived his bail hearing but reserved the right to revisit it. That's not desperation — that's calculation.Shavaun Scott wrote "The Minds of Mass Killers" and has spent thirty years evaluating violent offenders in forensic settings. She explains what's typically driving a not guilty plea when the evidence looks this strong — legally, psychologically, or both. There's a personality profile that consistently shows up in defendants who treat prosecution as intellectual competition rather than moral reckoning. Bundy performed. Peterson observed. Watts calculated. The quality of detachment in the courtroom isn't random.McKee is a surgeon. Over a decade of elite training. He's operated on human bodies under extreme pressure. Scott analyzes whether that professional background feeds into the kind of compartmentalization that allows someone to sit calmly while facing murder charges. And she addresses the theory that won't go away: the detachment that lets someone appear unaffected at trial is the same detachment that allegedly allowed them to pull the trigger. If other people aren't fully real to you, neither their deaths nor your accountability for those deaths carry the weight they should.#MichaelMcKee #HiddenKillers #ShavaunScott #MindsOfMassKillers #NotGuiltyPlea #NarcissisticGrandiosity #TepeMurders #ForensicPsychology #TedBundy #CourtroomBehaviorJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Three appellate judges heard oral arguments today in Charlie Adelson's bid to overturn his conviction in the murder-for-hire of Dan Markel. Adelson, currently serving life in a South Dakota prison, was not present as his attorneys argued he was denied a fair trial due to nearly a decade of pretrial publicity in Tallahassee. Defense attorney Michael Ufferman told Florida's First District Court of Appeal that 53 of 54 prospective jurors who formed an opinion believed Adelson was guilty before the trial began. He cited jurors discussing the case in violation of court orders and argued the entire panel should have been struck. The state countered that Adelson accepted the jury without objection and never filed a formal change of venue motion. Assistant Attorney General Robert Charles Lee delivered the prosecution's sharpest argument: Adelson is entitled to an impartial jury, not an impartial community. He maintained that any Florida jury would have convicted based on the evidence. The judges pressed both sides with pointed questions but did not indicate when a ruling would come. Adelson was convicted in November 2023 for orchestrating the 2014 murder of his former brother-in-law, an FSU law professor who was shot in his garage after a custody dispute. His mother Donna Adelson, convicted in September 2025, also has an appeal pending. Both are fighting their convictions from separate prisons.#CharlieAdelson #DanMarkel #AdelsonAppeal #TrueCrimeToday #MurderForHire #DonnaAdelson #FloridaCrime #AdelsonCase #TallahasseeMurder #MarkelCaseJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Today on Hidden Killers Live, defense attorney Bob Motta examines two major murder cases that are dominating headlines — the Brendan Banfield conviction and the Michael McKee arrest in the Monique Tepe double homicide.Brendan Banfield is going to prison for life. The former federal agent was convicted of aggravated murder after the jury believed his au pair over his testimony. She got murder dropped to manslaughter and walked free the day she testified against him. The defense called her bought and paid for. Twelve jurors didn't care. Bob breaks down why the defense strategy failed and whether Banfield's decision to take the stand sealed his fate. Then we examine the appeal. Banfield's team will argue the witness deal was too coercive, that evidence was buried, that the digital forensics investigation was compromised. Bob explains each argument and gives an honest assessment of the odds. The "harmless error" doctrine kills most appeals, and Banfield's team faces that mountain. Finally, we turn to Michael McKee, charged with murdering his ex-wife Monique Tepe and her husband. The evidence looks damning — surveillance footage, phone records, witnesses saying Monique told them McKee had threatened her for years. But Bob explains what defense attorneys see that the public doesn't. The reliability problems with video evidence. The hearsay challenges. The eight-year gap between the divorce and the murders that cuts both ways. This is comprehensive defense analysis of two active murder cases from an attorney who won't sugarcoat the odds.#BrendanBanfield #MichaelMcKee #MoniqueTepe #TrueCrimeToday #BobMotta #BanfieldVerdict #TepeMurders #AggravatedMurder #DefenseAttorney #TrueCrimeJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Charlie Adelson wasn't in the courtroom today. He's sitting in a South Dakota prison while his appellate attorneys argued that his murder conviction should be reversed. The hearing before Florida's First District Court of Appeal lasted 40 minutes and centered on one core question: Was the Tallahassee jury pool so poisoned by pretrial publicity that a fair trial was impossible? Defense attorney Michael Ufferman laid out the numbers. Of 130 prospective jurors questioned during voir dire, 54 had formed an opinion about the case. Fifty-three of them believed Charlie was guilty. Jurors were caught talking about the case after being instructed not to. Ufferman argued the fix was simple — strike the panel, move the trial, start over. Instead, the trial proceeded and Charlie was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation in the 2014 killing of his former brother-in-law, FSU law professor Dan Markel. The state pushed back forcefully. Assistant Attorney General Robert Charles Lee argued Charlie accepted the jury, never filed a written venue motion, and waived his right to complain. His blunt assessment: any jury in Florida would have reached the same verdict. The judges questioned both sides but issued no ruling. Charlie's mother Donna Adelson also has an appeal pending following her own conviction last year. The Markel case now moves into its final legal chapter.#CharlieAdelson #DanMarkel #AdelsonAppeal #TrueCrime #MurderForHire #DonnaAdelson #FloridaAppeal #AdelsonTrial #MarkelMurder #JusticeForDanJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Defense attorney Bob Motta joins Hidden Killers for a deep examination of two major murder cases — the Brendan Banfield conviction and the Michael McKee arrest in the Tepe murders. We start with Banfield. The former IRS agent just got convicted of aggravated murder in the deaths of his wife Christine and Ryan Banfield. The jury deliberated nine hours and came back guilty on everything. They believed the au pair — the woman who got murder dropped to manslaughter and walked free in exchange for her testimony. The defense hammered her credibility. It didn't matter.Bob breaks down exactly where the defense went wrong. The strategy of attacking the prosecution's story without offering an alternative. Banfield's decision to take the stand and tell the jury this whole thing was "absolutely crazy." The DNA that wasn't on the knife. The digital forensics fight that went nowhere. Every decision that led to this verdict. Then we examine the appeal. Life without parole in Virginia means exactly what it sounds like. Banfield is 40. Unless something changes, he dies in prison. Bob explains what his appellate team will argue — the coercive witness deal, the potentially buried evidence, the reassigned forensic investigator — and why most of it probably won't work. Finally, we shift to Michael McKee, charged with murdering his ex-wife Monique Tepe and her husband. Bob examines the surveillance footage, the hearsay testimony, and the phone evidence prosecutors are relying on. What looks like an open-and-shut case has complications a defense attorney will exploit.#BrendanBanfield #MichaelMcKee #MoniqueTepe #BobMotta #BanfieldAppeal #TepeMurders #AggravatedMurder #HiddenKillers #DefenseAttorney #TrueCrimeJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Michael McKee faces two counts of aggravated murder for the shooting deaths of Spencer and Monique Tepe. The evidence against him — according to court filings and police statements — includes surveillance footage, ballistics evidence, a cell phone that went dark during the murder window, and years of documented threats against his ex-wife Monique. He pleaded not guilty. This episode explores a psychological pattern that emerges in cases where evidence is overwhelming but defendants refuse to fold. Forensic psychologists call it narcissistic grandiosity with antisocial features. We call it the game player. These are defendants who view prosecution not as consequence but as competition — the final arena to prove they're the smartest person in the room.We examine the parallels to Scott Peterson's detached courtroom demeanor, Chris Watts treating investigators like marks he could con, and Ted Bundy transforming his trial into performance art. The common thread: a fundamental inability to view other people as fully real. Victims become obstacles. Murder becomes a move. Trial becomes the championship round.According to the unsealed affidavit, McKee allegedly told Monique he could "kill her at any time," that he would "find her and buy the house next to her," and that she would "always be his wife." If prosecutors' allegations are accurate, the game started long before December 30th, 2025.The same psychology that allows someone to treat their murder trial as a puzzle may be the same psychology that allowed them to allegedly commit the crime.McKee is presumed innocent until proven guilty. [In honor of Black History Month, we're highlighting some past conversations recorded with some former guests with diverse experiences]On June 17th, 2015, nine African Americans were gunned down during a bible study the shooter had been welcomed into with open arms. One of the victims, Myra Thompson, was the wife of today's guest, Reverend Anthony Thompson.Through the telling of his story of those dreadful days, more clarity is given on how that tragedy unfolded behind closed doors and why. We also believe listeners will hear a story of miraculous forgiveness in a man's heart. This miracle potentially was the catalyst of sparing Charleston SC from similar rioting that recently occurred in other parts of the country for other racially charged injustices. We believe in this time of great polarization, the message of forgiveness is an important one. After the murders of Harold and Thelma Swain, investigators faced mounting pressure to deliver answers—but instead, the case spiraled into decades of missteps, false leads, and a wrongful conviction. In Part 2, Murder: True Crime Stories follows the long investigation that led to the arrest of Dennis Perry, the flaws in the evidence used to convict him, and the stunning DNA revelations that ultimately set him free after 20 years behind bars. As attention finally returns to the true suspect, this episode examines how race, politics, and systemic failure delayed justice—and why the Swains' story is still unfolding 40 years later. Surveillance footage placing him at the scene. A NIBIN ballistics match. A cell phone that went dark during the murder window. Years of documented threats against his ex-wife. Michael McKee looked at the state's case and pleaded not guilty anyway. He waived his bail hearing but reserved the right to revisit it later — a calculated procedural move, not a white flag.Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott wrote "The Minds of Mass Killers" and has spent thirty years evaluating violent offenders in forensic settings. She explains why certain defendants refuse to fold even when the evidence looks insurmountable. There's a profile. Ted Bundy represented himself and cross-examined witnesses about his own alleged murders. Scott Peterson watched his trial like it was happening to someone else. Chris Watts tried to manipulate homicide detectives while his family's bodies were still being recovered. The courtroom detachment isn't random — it's diagnostic.McKee is a vascular surgeon. Over a decade of elite medical training. He's operated on human bodies under extreme pressure, making life-and-death decisions with precision. Scott analyzes whether that professional identity feeds into the compartmentalization required to sit calmly while facing aggravated murder charges. What is narcissistic grandiosity and where does it come from? For someone like this, what does "winning" even mean? And the theory that won't go away: the detachment that allows someone to appear unaffected at trial may be the same mechanism that allegedly let them pull the trigger.#MichaelMcKee #MoniqueTepe #SpencerTepe #HiddenKillersLive #ShavaunScott #NotGuiltyPlea #TedBundy #ChrisWatts #NarcissisticGrandiosity #TepeMurdersJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
