"Could I survive long enough to escape?" The Game Boy Advance game library featured many renowned Super Nintendo titles released on a handheld device for a newer and more portable generation. After the success of Metroid Fusion, Nintendo R&D1 opted not to port the beloved Super Metroid, choosing instead to return to 1987's Metroid from the Famicom and NES for inspiration. Not only with the aim of making the original title more accessible, Yoshio Sakamoto and his team also took the opportunity to extend both the plot and the gameplay of the original game with the addition of a Zero Suit Samus. Join Rich, Ryan, Leah and Brian as we discuss the nature of remake, remaster and retelling, and look at the life and times of Samus Aran in Metroid: Zero Mission. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/podcast/cane_and_rinse_issue_566.mp3 Music featured in this issue: 1. Joe and Ethan look at an odd sequel that is loaded with nostalgia for Ethan, and has no nostalgia at all for Joe! Another game developed and produced my Gunpei Yokoi's team at Nintendo R&D 1, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is a really solid and inventive platformer with lots of player choice, and some smart evolutions from the first Super Mario Land. It is a really solid Mario title, and a great snack of a game, perfect for the Game Boy. I mean, the game that birthed Wario has to be good!
There are some first-party Nintendo games that became legendary franchises. This… is not one of those games.Released in 1990 for the NES, StarTropics was specifically designed by Nintendo R&D3 with Western audiences in mind. In fact, it was never even released in Japan until 2008 on the Wii Virtual Console! This stylish and innovative game, featuring a genre mash-up with Dragon Quest-style villages and Zelda-like dungeons, gained a cult following of devoted fans, three of whom are on this podcast! Does StarTropics live up to their childhood memories?
“Then, someone found a cure.” Metroid 4. Or Metroid IV. Coming off the back of Wario Land 4, Nintendo R&D 1's crack team set about writing a direct sequel to Super Metroid, but also a title set much later in the timeline, serving eventually as a prequel to Metroid Dread. Leon, Brian, Leah, Rich and community correspondents get their GBAs (or equivalent) on, and brave the claustrophobic tunnels of a biological research centre and the terrifying, corrupt Samus clone, the SA-X. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/podcast/cane_and_rinse_issue_544.mp3 Music featured in this issue:1. Hi everybody and, once again, have you all a Happy New Year ! For this very first saturday of 2022 we have mixed a bunch of Retrogaming musics, in order to pay tribute to the Famicom creator (among other inventions) Masayuki Uemura and to the Dragon Quest's iconic opening theme Kôichi Sugiyama, who both passed away last year. “So the Galactic Federation called it's members to an urgent conference to find a way to overcome this menace. They quickly came to one conclusion, which was unanimous and simple…give Samus Aran the order to exterminate the Metroids!” Five years after the release of Metroid, Gunpei Yakoi and the team at Nintendo R&D1 sought to utilise the then new Gameboy platform to bring the graphics and explorative gameplay from the original NES title to the new handheld device. The first season of Game Informer's Video Gameography explores the history of the Metroid series. This week we're tackling Samus' acclaimed Game Boy Advance outing, Metroid Fusion. Metroid Fusion launched on November 17, 2002 – the same day as Metroid Prime. Developed by Nintendo R&D1, it stars Samus as she explores a space station overrun by shapeshifting parasites called X. Worst of all, Samus is hunted by an X parasite that has mimicked her appearance and abilities: the SA-X. Metroid Fusion served as a return to the 2D gameplay of Super Metroid with modern improvements such as faster movement and traversal and a ledge grab. Fusion was critically acclaimed as one of the best GBA games ever made; some fans even consider it a rival to Super Metroid as the best entry in the series. Chronologically, Fusion served as the final chapter in the Metroid saga for decades until 2021's Metroid Dread. Join hosts Ben Reeves (@BenjaminReeves), Marcus Stewart (@MarcusStewart7), and special guest Digital Eclipse editorial director Chris Kohler (@kobunheat) as we explore Metroid Fusion's lore, development history, and lasting impact. The first season of Game Informer's Video Gameography explores the history of the Metroid series. After running down Samus' classic debut and handheld outing, we're moving onto the most influential entry in the series: Super Metroid. Released on April 18, 1994 for Nintendo's Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Metroid sold well enough at the time, but its legend has only grown over time as more and more titles take inspiration from Samus' haunting adventure across the planet Zebes. Developed by Nintendo R&D1 with a staff of 15, and directed by Yoshio Sakamoto, Super Metroid is widely considered one of the greatest – if not the greatest – game ever made. In this episode, we talk about Super Metroid's grueling development, its unique approach to cinematic storytelling, the ways it surprised players, and how it helped spawn the Metroidvania genre. Join hosts Ben Reeves (@BenjaminReeves), Marcus Stewart (@MarcusStewart7), and special guest, Game Informer alumni Joe Juba for the next hour as we explore Super Metroid's lore, development history, and lasting impact. The first season of Game Informer's Video Gameography explores the history of the Metroid series. After running down Samus' classic debut, we're moving on to its polarizing handheld sequel, Metroid II: Return of Samus. Developed by Nintendo R&D1, Metroid II is largely viewed as the red-headed stepchild of the series. Samus' encore outing launched on the Game Boy in 1991, which means it was limited in terms of presentation and scale. The monochrome graphics and zoomed-in perspective made exploration trickier than its predecessor, and the primary mission tasked players with locating and eradicating over 40 Metroids scattered across the map, a mission structure that hasn't been implemented since. Join hosts Ben Reeves (@BenjaminReeves), Marcus Stewart (@MarcusStewart7), and special guest, comic book writer/podcast host Chris Sims (@theisb), as we explore Metroid II's lore, development history, and lasting impact, such as the fact that it's received two modern remakes, both officially and otherwise. Nintendo's dominant '80s run on the video game industry produced several hit franchises that remain important today. Metroid might not be a massive juggernaut like Super Mario Bros. or The Legend of Zelda, but it's still an icon of the industry ... and for good reason. In the first season of Game Informer's Video Gameography podcast, we're tackling Metroid. Developed by Nintendo R&D1 and produced by the creator of the Game Boy, Gunpei Yokoi, Metroid thrilled fans with its creative approach to platforming action. While most games gave you a set path to follow, Metroid dropped you into a haunting, alien world and let you freely explore to discover upgrades and ultimately save the universe from biological warfare. Join hosts Ben Reeves (@BenjaminReeves), Marcus Stewart (@MarcusStewart7), and special guest, Game Informer's senior editor Dan Tack (@dantack) for the next hour as we explore Metroid's lore, development history, and lasting impact. We take a fond look back at Animal Crossing, released to North American audiences for the Nintendo Gamecube on September 16, 2002. Its our first look at game developed by Nintendo R&D4, the biggest development division in Nintendo, which warrants a discussion about its history. This brings us to Animal Crossing, itself, where we talk about our own experiences with the game. We once again take a look why a game that's "work" is so much fun as we take yet another trip down Memory Card Lane. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

TowerCast. Wie fandet ihr das Nintendo-Jahr 2020? Gebt uns eure Meinung in unserem Kommentarbereich preis.
The Nintendo R.O.B. or Robotic Operating Buddy was a robotic assistant for the NES that would play the games with you. The hype behind it was huge, but it turned out to be pretty lackluster. But this may not have been the point. Was the R.O.B used as a way to promote the NES as more of a "toy" compared to a "video game" which now had a bad name after the great Video Game Crash of 1983? Punch Out, originally titled Mike Tyson's Punch Out before a bit of ear-biting changed Nintendo's mind, was ported from the arcade in 1987 by Nintendo R&D3. In Punch Out, players take on the role of Little Mac, fighting through three circuits and eventually facing the impossible Mr. Dream. In season two of Cheerful Ghost Radio we are doing bite-sized NES Classic review episodes. We want to make you all part of these episodes, so head over to https://cheerfulghost.com/events and join in the event for next month's NES Classic review, Kid Icarus! While we have you here: what kind of games from the NES Classic and SNES Classic would you like to hear us review? Would you prefer the SNES era over the NES era? If you have suggestions, head over to Cheerful Ghost to let us know.
Ice Climber was released Jan 30th 1985 by Nintendo R&D1. Nintendo R&D1 made other games such as Donkey Kong, Dr. Mario, Excitebike, Mario Bros., Metroid, Kid Icarus and Tetris. In Ice Climber the characters Popo and Nana head up 32 different ice mountains to get an eggplant from a huge thieving bird vulture thing. In season two of Cheerful Ghost Radio we are starting out doing NES Classic reviews and being things with Ice Climber. We are thinking these reviews can be a more bite-sized episode format and are interested in what you think and if you have any ideas for future episodes!
