Pope Francis centered the climate crisis during his papacy, highlighting the moral obligations that we all share to our fellow humans (especially the poorest among us, as they will be disproportionately impacted by climate change) as well as our responsibilities to the Earth itself. In 2015, Pope Francis released his first encyclical, Laudato si': On Care for Our Common Home, a 40,000 word treatise on both the Biblical mandate to care for creation but also a holistic discussion of the effects of modernity on the ecological function of the planet. While the encyclical became part of the Catholic Church's official teaching, the encyclical was written for both believers and nonbelievers.Catholics are continuing to work together to address climate change through the Laudato Si' Movement, a nonprofit that joins over 900 Catholic organizations and over 10,000 trained grassroots leaders known as Laudato Si' Animators to “inspire and mobilize the Catholic community to care for our common home and achieve climate and ecological justice”Anna Johnson, North American Director of the Laudato Si' Movement, joins the program to discuss Pope Francis' lasting legacy of climate action.Interested in joining fellow Catholics for Climate Action? Corteva Agriscience announced its new brand, Trusource™ wheat, a high fiber durum that can help meet consumers' needs for increased dietary fiber through use in high-volume foods such as pasta. Trusource wheat will be available to food companies to trial in product development and evaluation in late 2024, with North American commercialization plans for farmers to be announced in the coming years.Tyler Groeneveld is the North American Director for value added ingredients at Corteva Agriscience. He says its important because fiber is the most under-consumed macronutrient and there is a direct correlation between low fiber and chronic inflammation, leading to many human health issues. Hot summers may be great for your time at the lake but very hot temperatures can cause stress in crops, especially flowering canola. Curtis Rempel, vice president of crop production and innovation with the Canola Council of Canada says when the temperatures are in the 30's, it's especially hard on flowering canola plants. The crop at flowering is when the pollen is produced, the canola gets pollinated and seeds start forming. When you have high heat levels, when the crop is starting to flower, you get the pollen dying because of the heat. Then the flower does not get pollinated and it gets blasted off or falls off, and the farmer loses that yield potential they would have otherwise had.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What is Augmented Reality? And what does it mean for manufacturing? The term augmented reality describes a range of apps, wearable devices, and interfaces that bring the virtual world, and any relevant information it contains, into the real world where it can be used in real time. You might be familiar with ar apps such as pokemon go or other video games for apple's iphone or android. Or you might know about applications of ar systems for work, where ar technology is used in healthcare to project digital information onto the real world environment. But what is the benefit of augmented reality for manufacturing? To answer this question, I turned to Nate Taylor, North American Director for Transition Technologies. Nate Taylor advises companies on how augmented reality technology can help OEMs and customers better leverage digital content, and how companies can use these ar applications to boost their profits in real-life. At a conference where AR experiences were everywhere, where someone in smart glasses was navigating a virtual environment and vendors were exchanging business cards over their mobile devices, Nate Taylor and I shared a very real-world conversation about impact of augmented reality on manufacturing.

We live in a world filled with endless things that cause worry and fear. Yet, Jesus teaches us how we can overcome worry as we trust in Him. We can overcome worry when we: 1. Look to God who provides what we need. 2. Seek God's Kingdom and righteousness above all else. 3. Trust in Jesus, who is the “bread of life.” “Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst...Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.I am the bread of life.Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven...'” (John 6:35, 47-51 ESV) Pastor Daniel Stephens Every Nation North American Director Lead Pastor, Mid-Cities Community Church Sunday June 11, 2023 Live at 9:15 AM

The Everyday Mission Podcast is officially one year old as we launched our first episode in January of 2022. As we move into our second year, we thought it would be fun to begin by giving you a look behind the mic at the two people who make this podcast happen. On this episode, host Gina Mueller and editor and producer Mike Potter sit down together to share stories of how God has been and continues to lead them in their everyday lives. Gina is the North American Director of 3DM, but she's also an everyday wife, mom, church-planter, disciple of Jesus and a disciple-maker. Mike is the pastor of Foothills Fellowship in Albuquerque, NM, but he's also an everyday husband, dad, grandfather, follower of Jesus, and an audiophile (you might have to look that word up - but just know that it's not a bad thing!). www.3dmovements.com

Jacqueline Carter is a partner and North American Director for Potential Project, and the co-author of Compassionate Leader: How to do Hard Things in a Human Way. Highlights: “Not only is it possible to do hard things in a human way, but when we do…our people thrive.” [9:50] Jacqueline Carter dives into the data behind her new book Compassionate Leader, delighted to find this human way of doing the hard things that solves the leadership challenge of better well-being and better performance. “How does being rated high on compassion help with our stress and anxiety levels, which are off the charts?” [10:55] Marcel, taking note of the rising stress levels post pandemic, asks Jacqueline how compassionate leadership changes that…interestingly enough, it benefits both the leader and the staff. “There are many leaders that are smart…being smart means you have the answer to the question; being wise is knowing when not to give the answer to the question.” [13:40] Not only is compassion important but Jacqueline drives home the point of the importance of wisdom in that equation. A wise leader can bring together the greatest potential of the team. “Empathy can lead to empathetic burnout; we can care SO much that we can get stuck and then we can't do anything.” [21:20] Don't let empathy hijack your brain. Jacqueline encourages leaders to ask the question, how can I be of benefit…to drive and influence their ability to lead with compassion. “Compassionate action can be no action, so long as it is done with wisdom.” [23:31] Leading with compassion can sometimes mean taking a step back. Jacqueline explains the need for space in decisions and actions…at times doing nothing at all. “Before we lead others with compassion, we must first learn to lead ourselves with compassion.” [23:45] Marcel quotes Jacqueline's principle of ‘Oxygen Mask First': a critical point for leaders to meet their needs and take care of themselves first so they can then be of service to others. “Busyness does not equal productivity” [25:30] Jacqueline's tip for leaders is to stop wearing busyness as a badge of honor and instead pause and approach tasks with a calmness and understanding of what is possible and reasonable to do. “Wouldn't it be amazing if as a culture, we valued our downtime as a restorative opportunity for us to be able to show up as a better version of ourselves.” [28:00] What does it mean to appreciate the "busylessness"? Jacqueline encourages an emphasis on creating space in your life and mind for actual downtime, where you are present as an individual. “It takes an immense amount of courage to see vulnerability as a leadership strength and not as a weakness.” [32:45] Marcel comments on the principle of ‘Courage over Comfort' in which Jacqueline explains the hard stuff, that requires courage and uncomfortability where leaders should embrace the fear and tame it. “We can both be hard and human. We can focus on results and care. Not only is that better for ourselves, for our people, but also for our business.” [36:55] Rounding out the discussion on the 6 principles, Jacqueline parts with what she hopes listeners and readers will take away from her book, Compassionate Leader. Peter Iliyn spoke at our October Night of Missions. He spoke about taking seriously our divine appointments that God gives us, keeping up with the people whom God has put in our lives. Raised in the Russian culture and language, he continued his education at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned his BS in electrical engineering and material science. Peter joined Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in 1976, and has been able to cross barriers throughout the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe with his ministry. Peter has traveled and ministered in over seventy-five countries across Asia, South America, Australia, and throughout Eastern and Western Europe. Currently he is the North American Director for YWAM. He and his wife Luba have four children and live in Jefferson, Oregon. He has authored a book, Out of the Far Corners, recounting the story of his father’s emigration from Russia. Vanya Iliyn’s formative years were spent on the move, traveling the far corners of the world—Russia, Central China, and the Americas—amid seemingly impossible hardships. His journey crossed the landscape of his heart as well. Orphaned and alone, Vanya could look only to God for protection, guidance, and grace. His remarkable story speaks to the power and majesty of God.
