POD: Point of Decision. We make myriads of decisions every day. Some are mundane: “What to have for breakfast?” Some more serious: “Is this job/car/house for me?” Some decisions are life-changing: “Is this the person I trust and love enough to marry?” Some decisions are eternal: “God is speaking to me... What is my response?” Points of decision test our values. The more serious the POD, the more serious our values are called on to shape a response. The many, mini decisions we make set the course of the more important choices. The decisions we make today make decisions for us tomorrow. This was true for the Roman Tribune, Claudius Lysias, when he encoun- tered Paul. As Claudius Lysias continued to interact with Paul, the deci- sions came with higher and higher stakes. Each POD was like one of the 2,400 bronze scales on his armor. Individually, they seem to be inconse- quential, but like each scale, every decision led to a deeper call for a personal, life-changing choice. You decided to worship with us today. We are honored and pleased that you are here. It may be that you will find yourself at a Point of Decision; to worship with us again; to rededicate your life to God; to decide to follow Him for the first time. We welcome you in His name and pray that He will guide you in every decision you make.

“Who holds back the electric car?” sang the Stonecutters in a 1995 Simpsons episode. You could ask the same question in 2023 Britain. The electric car revolution still feels a long way off for many people - cars are too expensive and it is difficult to find a working point charging point. But in this episode of Business Studies, Erik Fairbairn, the founder and chief executive of Pod Point, one of the largest providers of electric car charging points in the UK, explains why we all be buying electric vehicles by 2030, why criticism about the reliability and lack of charging points is unfair, and how he created the business more than a decade ago when the prospect of any electric vehicles on the road was just a dream. BMW READY FOR ANY BAN ON FOSSIL FUELS "Germany's BMW (BMWG.DE) will be ready for any ban on internal combustion engine (ICE) cars from 2030 onwards with an offering of electric vehicles, Chief Executive Officer Oliver Zipse said on Tuesday." according to Reuters: "The EU has proposed an effective ban on fossil fuel cars from 2035 as part of a broader package of measures to combat global warming. Unlike rivals including Volkswagen and General Motors, BMW has not set an end date for production of ICE cars." Oliver Zipse: "We will be ICE-ban ready. If a region, a city, a country gets the idea of banning ICEs, we have an offering. The BMW Group is not worried about this. Whether it's a good idea is another question... but we will have an offering." Those cells use a sulfide-based solid electrolyte in place of the liquid or gel used in conventional lithium-ion cells." writes Green Car Reports: "When fully-charged test cells were punctured by a conductive nail, the only change was a slight increase in temperature, Soild Power said in a press release. The nail penetration test produced no flames or venting of material from the cells, the company claims. In other tests, cells were overcharged to 200%, and were also caused to short circuit, again with no serious issues, according to Solid Power. . But that might be changing." says CarScoops: " spy photographers caught a Tesla Model S Plaid lapping the Nürburgring with a retractable wing that also changed its angle throughout the lap. Seen here changing its pitch from one shot to the next, it would appear that Tesla is looking for higher cornering speeds.  The Plaid+ was supposed to get 1,100 hp, a range of more than 520 miles (837 km), and faster acceleration. According to the company's website, another location is coming nearby and it will be equipped with 56 stalls (V3 250 kW). That would increase the total output in the area to 96. One report vaguely referenced Foxconn as a potential candidate for the ‌Apple Car‌'s production, but Apple is also looking at other possible suppliers. - Foxconn has already ruled out Mexico as a location but is in negotiations with three states in the U.S. to build its first EV manufacturing plant in North America, Nikkei Asia has learned. Those include Wisconsin, which just agreed with Foxconn to amend its former plan of investing $10 billion in the state -- a promise Foxconn made in 2017. Only electric cars that cost less than $40,000 would be eligible. Additionally, only buyers with an income of less than $100,000 would be able to apply for the tax credit. - The timing of the effort to limit access to the EV incentive is interesting since the Biden administration has made clear that they plan to reform the program. The rise of electric vehicles could see traditional service stations closing across the planet over the next two decades, and replacing pumps with fast chargers is unlikely to save them. Justin Rowlatt speaks to one entrepreneur hoping to profit from the rollout of EV chargers in every home and parking space, Erik Fairbairn of Pod Point. Meanwhile Isabelle Haigh, head of national control at the UK's National Grid, explains why she is confident they can meet the electricity demand from all these new vehicles. Across the Atlantic, another entrepreneur - Sanjiv Patel of National Petroleum - says the writing is clearly on the wall for his chain of 25 gas stations in California - but maybe not for a while yet. But could he turn them into restaurants or use them to hold séances? That's the fate of one petrol station in Leeds that is now an arts centre. We hear from its owner, Jack Simpson. Show #844   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 19th July 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Welcome to a new Patreon EXECUTIVE PRODUCER RENE KEEMIK   AUDI: PROPRIETARY CHARGING NETWORK FOR HI-TECH EVS? "The Volkswagen Group is planning a proprietary charging network throughout Europe, Spiegel magazine claims, citing circles around Audi’s project Artemis. It looks like initially, only Audi drivers would benefit from the hi-tech network with Porsche clients to follow." according to electrive: "The article leaves open whether other Volkswagen brands or even competitors will be able to access the network later. The first step, therefore, seems to be a proprietary charging network for Audi electric cars as well as Porsche’s, similar to that of Tesla and their Superchargers. Neither Spiegel nor Audi name any technical advances the premium chargers may utilise. High power charging is already installed across Europe by Ionity, in which Volkswagen has a stake, of course, and with prices that fit an almost exclusive approach."   https://www.electrive.com/2020/07/19/audi-planning-proprietary-charging-network-for-hi-tech-evs/   KOREA TO EXTEND SUBSIDIES FOR ELECTRIC CARS TO 2025 TO SUPPORT GREEN NEW DEAL "Buyers of electric vehicles in South Korea will be able to pick up state subsidies until 2025 as the government has pushed back the sunset provision date under its goal to have 1.33 million green cars on the road by the same year. The state-imposed sales target for green cars would also be tweaked to reduce the burden on carmakers, with excess sales allowed to be traded as credits like carbon emissions" says Pulse NEws: "To accelerate the transition to electric vehicles, the plan bumped up future-vehicle subsidies by 4.5 trillion won. EV subsidies, which were to phase out starting this year to completely expire by 2022, are also extended for another three years. Passenger cars would be subsidized until 2024, and commercial buses and trucks by 2025.   https://pulsenews.co.kr/view.php?year=2020&no=733375   STARD LAUNCHES WORLD’S FIRST ROAD-CAR BASED ELECTRIC MOTORSPORT CUSTOMER PROGRAMME WITH THE FORD "STARD is delighted to announce the world’s first road-car based electric motorsport customer programme aimed at delivering race-ready competition Ford Fiesta ERX2s onto the market with a bespoke fully-electric powertrain." Based on the Ford Fiesta MK8 ST bodyshell and developed around the FIA World Rallycross Championship’s Projekt E category ERX2 regulations. The Ford Fiesta ERX2 has been developed in-house by STARD in Austria, using knowledge gained from over 10 years of electric motorsport vehicle development. The Ford Fiesta ERX2 incorporates STARDs REVelution powertrain system, using three electric motors, producing 450kW (613bhp) combined power and 1002Nm of instantaneous torque with a top speed of 240km/h, using a four-wheel drive system and two-speed transmissions fitted to both axles. Race-ready Ford Fiesta ERX2s are now available, priced at €374.000 and first examples have already been delivered to customers, such as experienced rallycross team Holten Motorsport in Norway.   http://stard.at/2020/07/17/stard-launches-worlds-first-road-car-based-electric-motorsport-customer-programme-with-the-ford-fiesta-erx2/   FIRST VW DIESELGATE SETTLEMENT-FUNDED FAST CHARGER IN NORTH DAKOTA "Ten North Dakota communities have received funding to build fast-charging stations from a settlement against Volkswagen for violating the Clean Air Act. The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality has allocated $2.7 million to local governments and businesses for clean vehicle projects, including 17 fast-charging stations across the state." reports Tesmanian: "Communities plan to charge drivers for the electricity they consume, though it has not yet determined rates. That’s a $1,800 price drop before the federal tax credit."   https://electrek.co/2020/07/17/tesla-solar-price-decrease-increase/   CLEANTECHNICA INTERVIEW WITH PETER CARLSSON, CEO OF NORTHVOLT "I think the car companies need to also come and offer new and sustainable products, in order to get back the kind of demand that was there before the crisis. And I think this pandemic is actually going to accelerate some of these transitions. Because I think consumers have been thinking about this. That’s part of it.  And also — getting economies going after this crisis. I think every big government around the world is thinking of, “where do I get the most bang for the buck in terms of investments in the economy?” And many of them — like the European Union — [are] focusing on so-called “green deals.”   https://cleantechnica.com/2020/07/18/cleantechnica-interview-with-peter-carlsson-ceo-of-northvolt-part-one-background-mission-unique-approach/   VOLKSWAGEN, TESCO AND POD POINT REACH MILESTONE Volkswagen, Tesco and Pod Point teamed up to provide the largest free retail charging network for electric vehicle (EV) owners across the UK.   The groundbreaking partnership has now hit the landmark 200th store after four EV points were installed at the Tesco superstore in Chester.   So far, enough renewable energy has been given away to power the homes in a city the size of Chester for a whole day.   Over the past 18 months, these charging points across the UK have been used 150,000 times by EV owners of all brands – providing their batteries with a combined 669 megawatts of power.   https://vwpress.co.uk/en-gb/releases/4282   CONNECTED ENERGY WINS FIRST ORDER FOR ITS NEXT GENERATION SECOND-LIFE ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM Second life battery pioneer, Connected Energy will be installing the first of its new generation of optimised energy storage systems as part of Suffolk County Council’s latest project, The Hold (The Hold is expected to attract thousands of visitors each year, seeking to research local history, find out about their families, or to take part in events and activities. The £20m project is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund) The E-STOR will help optimise energy use and peak loads across a system including PV, EV chargers and critical HVAC, designed to create a controlled climate for the archived materials. The new 300kW/360kWh containerised systems, which include 24 second life Renault Kangoo batteries, have benefitted from collaborative support from Renault and ABB to increase efficiencies on both the power and capacity sides of the system.   https://www.energylivenews.com/2020/07/17/connected-energy-wins-first-order-for-its-next-generation-second-life-energy-storage-system/   RARE 1,250 HP ELECTRIC HYPERCAR WAS SPOTTED TOOLING AROUND LA RAESR stands for Rice Advanced Engineering Systems and Research, and I think they’d like you to pronounce that acronym like “racer.” Their car, the Tachyon Speed, uses six direct-drive motors pushing around 2,950 pounds of carbon fiber body and battery at up to 240 mph or more.   RAESR says they’re now taking orders for these beasts, with prices ranging from $750,000 to over $1,500,000 It looks like what the Batmobile would be if Bruce Wayne wasn’t such a cheapskate. Based on these pictures of one of the prototypes sans body, it looks like it’s a tandem-seat car, and I think the roof opens like a fighter jet canopy   https://jalopnik.com/this-absurdly-rare-1-250-hp-electric-hypercar-was-spott-1844420529   [mention for Premium Partners]   You can listen to all 843 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically.   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.     PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) AVID TECHNOLOGY (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRIGHTSMITHGROUP.COM – FOR CLEANTECH TALENT (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NEW! Show #726   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 23rd March 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Welcome to a new PRODUCER MADS GYBEL VEJ ANDERSEN   ELECTRIC CARS PRODUCE LESS CO2 THAN PETROL VEHICLES, STUDY CONFIRMS "Electric vehicles produce less carbon dioxide than petrol cars across the vast majority of the globe – contrary to the claims of some detractors, who have alleged that the CO2 emitted in the production of electricity and their manufacture outweighs the benefits." reports The Guardian today: "The finding is a boost to governments, including the UK, seeking to move to net zero carbon emissions, which will require a massive expansion of the electric car fleet. Across the world, passenger road vehicles and household heating generate about a quarter of all emissions from the burning of fossil fuels. That makes electric vehicles essential to reducing overall emissions, but how clean an electric vehicle is also depends on how the electricity is generated, the efficiency of the supply and the efficiency of the vehicle. They found that in 53 out of 59 regions, comprising 95% of the world, electric vehicles and domestic heat pumps generate less carbon dioxide than fossil fuel powered cars or boilers. The only exceptions are heavily coal-dependent countries such as Poland. In countries such as Sweden, which gets most of its electricity from renewable sources, and France, which is largely powered by nuclear, the CO2 savings from using electric cars reach as high as 70% over their conventional counterparts."   Jean-Francois Mercure, of Exeter University: "“The answer is clear: to reduce carbon emissions, we should choose electric cars and household heat pumps over fossil fuel alternatives.”   https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/mar/23/electric-cars-produce-less-co2-than-petrol-vehicles-study-confirms   TESLA MODEL Y OWNER DISCOVERS NEW HEAT PUMP AFTER FRUNK “TEARDOWN” "Tesla Model Y saw the introduction of a new heat pump that’s designed to be more energy-efficient and provides a more reliable range in cold weather conditions" says Teslarati: "Tesla owner Erik Strait and host of the DÆrik Youtube channel recently disassembled the front trunk (“frunk”) section of the vehicle to have a closer look at the Model Y heat pump. After removing the plastic liners in the frunk, Erik was able to discover Model Y’s heat pump located on top of the front motor assembly. Coolant lines can also be seen running through the vehicle’s firewall and to a location where Tesla’s Hardware 3 computer resides."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-y-heat-pump-frunk-teardown/   2021 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8 HYBRID SPIED "Though it’s still yet to hit UK soil, first customer deliveries of the all-new, mid-engined C8 Corvette have begun in the US, with the model competing with Porsche’s 992 911 Carrera. Following previous rumours of an electrified variant, photographers have already spotted a hybrid testing on the road." writes evo.co.uk - "Though a more standard hybrisied variant with similar power to the current pure-combustion car was listed, an iteration complete with an electrified 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 powertrain is said to produce 838bhp and a staggering 922lb ft of torque – these numbers lead us to believe that this would be the range-topping, track-oriented ZR1."   https://www.evo.co.uk/chevrolet/corvette/202368/2021-chevrolet-corvette-c8-hybrid-spies-pictures   JAGUAR LAND ROVER PLANS NEW ELECTRIC CROSSOVERS, THE J-PACE AND ROAD ROVER "According to a report today from UK’s Autocar, the company’s historic plant in Castle Bromwich will also produce two new electric crossovers – the Jaguar J-Pace and a Land Rover model dubbed “Road Rover.”" according to electrek: "The two new JLR models are expected to go on sale by the end of 2021. Both vehicles will be built on the new MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform. JLR is investing £1 billion ($1.15 billion) to convert its Castle Bromwich and Solihull plants to produce MLA cars. There have been hints since last year that the Jaguar I-Pace will eventually move to the MLA platform, likely when a second-generation version is created. Vehicles built on the MLA platform are reported to use a 90.2 kWh battery."   https://electrek.co/2020/03/23/jaguar-land-rover-plans-new-electric-crossovers-the-j-pace-and-road-rover/   SWISS RIDER ON HARLEY-DAVIDSON LIVEWIRE SETS ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE DISTANCE RECORD "Harley-Davidson's electric LiveWire offers about 100 miles of riding range, so it's not as well suited to long road trips as its gasoline-powered siblings, but that doesn't mean it can't go the distance. Swiss rider Michel von Tell proved that by setting a new 24-hour distance record (albeit an unofficial one) on Harley's first electric model." reports Autoblog: "Von Toll's record-setting, 1,070-mile trip took him to four countries in 23 hours and 48 minutes. He covered this distance on his own, and he comfortably beat the old, 818-mile record set in 2018 by a team of seven riders who took turns going around a test track on a Zero SR. Data like how much electricity Von Toll used during his trip and how many times he stopped to charge will be published by Harley-Davidson in the coming days."   https://www.autoblog.com/2020/03/23/harley-davidson-livewire-electric-motorcycle-distance-record/   AUDI E-TRON HYBRID COMING 2021 "The 2021 Audi A3 Sedan will be on sale in the United States before the end of the year, according to Car and Driver citing inside sources. The A3 sedan in the U.S. will come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with mild-hybrid assistance that will make about 240 horsepower (179 kilowatts)" says Motor1.com: "In comparison, the A3 hatchback in Europe offers buyers significantly more options. The base unit is a 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 110 hp (82 kW). There's also a 1.5-liter unit available with or without mild-hybrid assistance, and both have 150 hp (112 kW). A 2.0-liter turbodiesel comes with either 116 hp (87 kW) or 150 hp. Two plug-in hybrid versions are coming later using a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, electric motor, and six-speed dual-clutch gearbox."   https://www.motor1.com/news/405359/2021audi-a3-sedan-rumors/   POD POINT TO DEPLOY TRITIUM DC CHARGERS ACROSS THE UK "The British charging provider Pod Point (recently acquired by EDF), has selected Australian manufacturer Tritium as a preferred supplier of DC fast chargers."   write InsideEVs: "The agreement concerns the Veefil-RT 50 kW DC chargers, which will be used in "existing and future network rollouts across the United Kingdom". Probably soon the units will be installed on a high scale at Tesco stores in the UK, as Pod Point, Volkswagen and Tesco are equipping 600 stores with charging infrastructure."   "The agreement ensures Tritium’s Veefil-RT 50kW DC rapid charger, renowned for its compact design, ease of use and low maintenance, will be offered to Pod Point’s new and existing customers as part of its continuing nationwide EV charging network rollout. Pod Point chose Tritium as its preferred DC rapid charger supplier due to the proven reliability of Tritium’s chargers, the ease and speed of installation and their unique design, which enable Pod Point to offer selected customers the ability to add their branding to each charger."   https://insideevs.com/news/405371/pod-point-tritium-dc-chargers-uk/   PORSCHE RENEWS PLAN TO MAKE MACAN CROSSOVER A "FULLY BATTERY-POWERED MODEL SERIES" "Porsche is continuing plans to make the Macan crossover all-electric. It's a significant move, as the Macan is currently Porsche's bestselling model. In a report of its 2019 financial results, Porsche reiterated that the Macan will be the "second, fully battery-powered model series"—after the Taycan." says Green Car Reprots: "The automaker previously said the electric Macan would launch in 2022; it will arrive after the upcoming Taycan Cross Turismo wagon. Porsche has said the electric Macan will replace the gasoline model entirely, but it has left the door open for the current-generation Macan to be sold alongside the all-electric next-generation model. Porsche's wording likely signals that the company doesn't intend for that transition to last long."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1127535_porsche-renews-plan-to-make-macan-crossover-a-fully-battery-powered-model-series   QUESTION OF THE WEEK   How can the EV community all come together at this time to support each other?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 241 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Show #696   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 13th February 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Welcome to new Patreon Partner BOB BOOTHBY   Welcome to new Executive Producer HEDLEY WRIGHT   Welcome to new Executive Producer JOHN C SOLAR   Welcome to new Producer STEVEN C DAVIES   Welcome to new Producer JAIE LAWRIE     TESLA'S $2 BILLION SHARE SALE "Tesla Inc on Thursday announced plans to raise $2 billion in a stock offering, tapping into an astronomical jump in its share price over the past few months and reversing the electric-car maker’s often-stated policy of avoiding sales of new stock." reports Reuters.com: "Tesla said it would offer 2.65 million shares, of which Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk will buy up to $10 million in shares, while board member and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison will purchase up to $1 million worth of Tesla shares. Musk has repeatedly assured investors that Tesla will not need to raise more money for costly initiatives including production of a new vehicle model, the ramp-up of its China production and the construction of its first European factory. Since the last capital raise, Tesla has built a $2 billion factory in Shanghai and unveiled the futuristic Cybertruck pickup."   This is Elon 14 days ago: "So in light of that, it doesn’t make sense to raise money because we expect to generate cash despite this growth level. Diluting the company to pay down debt doesn’t sound like a wise move"   Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives said: "“In our opinion the size of this offering is larger than many had anticipated, but we believe it’s a smart move by Musk and the Board to take advantage of being back in a position of strength"   https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tesla-offering/tesla-seeks-to-tap-into-stock-surge-with-2-billion-share-sale-idUSKBN2071OY   Yahooo Finance said: "Tesla doesn’t report sales by region or breakdown of revenue by country until regulatory filings that follow its earnings reports. On Thursday, the company said revenue rose 70% in China, 65% in the Netherlands and 48% in Norway last year. But in the U.S. -- by far its largest market -- revenue fell 15% to $12.65 billion. Tesla had 48,016 full-time employees at the end of 2019, down slightly from 48,817 from a year earlier."   https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tesla-plots-2-billion-offering-130311465.html   EDF HAS ACQUIRED POD POINT EDF have acquired a majority stake in Pod Point, as part of a newly-formed joint venture with Legal & General Capital.   Pod Point said today: "The acquisition will help us achieve our vision of a world where travel doesn't damage the earth. By joining up with EDF we can accelerate our roll-out of charging infrastructure, making it even easier for UK drivers to go electric. Pod Point’s charging solutions will become part of EDF’s market-leading EV offers in the UK. Legal & General will take a c.23% stake in EDF’s newly-formed joint venture. Pod Point will be EDF Group’s biggest EV investment and the acquisition forms part of its plan to become the leading energy company for electric mobility in the UK, France, Italy and Belgium."   https://pod-point.com/electric-car-news/edf-acquire-pod-point?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=edf   Wesbite The Energyst said: "While parts of the power industry, including National Grid, believe UK infrastructure can handle an EV boom without a significant increase in generation capacity, EDF’s UK CEO Simone Rossi, offered a different view. “The additional electricity demand from EVs will require urgent investment in low carbon generation from renewables and nuclear,” he stated."   https://theenergyst.com/edf-seals-pod-point-buy-says-ev-demand-will-need-new-nuclear/   2020 STARTS WITH A BANG FOR ITALY’S EV MARKET "January sales are out for the Italian car market, and electric cars are up by nearly 600%(!) over the same month last year. 1943 fully electric vehicles (BEVs) were sold in the country, an epic surge over last year’s 283 units during the same period" says CleanTechnica: "Incentives in Italy didn’t kick in until March 2019, which all but paused the market during winter months.Further, with EU emissions regulations only now coming into force, many automakers waited for the new year before pushing existing and new electric models to customers. All this certainly explains such an exuberant start of the year, in an otherwise slowing car market. The biggest losers, predictably, were diesel models, which saw a sales drop of over 23% from the same month last year."   https://cleantechnica.com/2020/02/11/2020-starts-with-a-bang-for-italys-ev-market-january-sales-up-587/   FORD MUSTANG MACH-E EUROPEAN DEBUT   "Ford has launched its new Mustang Mach-E electric crossover in London as the spearhead of a drive to electrify its UK fleet and, it claims, save European motorists up to £28m a year in fuel costs." writes Autocar: "Under the banner “Go Electric”, the Mach-E is appearing on London’s roads near Marble Arch ahead of first UK customer deliveries late this year. Prices are not yet official, but it's estimated to cost from around £42,000, rising to £60,000. Deliveries are scheduled for the autumn. The model will initially be launched with two battery pack sizes and three power outputs. The twin-motor all-wheel-drive version is offered with a 75kWh battery and 254bhp, or 99kWh and 332bhp. Both versions provide 429lb ft and a sub-seven-second 0-62mph time, with estimated ranges of 260 and 335 miles."   https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motor-shows-la-motor-show/new-ford-mustang-mach-e-ev-makes-european-debut-london   "It’s a reflection of how far ahead Europe is of the U.S. in terms of adopting electric and electrified vehicles, due in part to strict rules limiting CO2 emissions. The automaker also announced it will have 18 electrified vehicles on the market in Europe by the end of 2021, up from 14 by the end of this year." reports Autoblog: "Ford did not address a report from CNET that said Norway will get priority in Europe for the Mustang Mach-E, saying only that it would be “available simultaneously in both the U.S. and key European markets late this year."   https://www.autoblog.com/2020/02/13/ford-mustang-mach-e-european-launch/   PETROL AND DIESEL CAR SALES BAN COULD START IN 12 YEARS "The UK's planned ban on sales of new petrol, diesel or hybrid cars could start as early as 2032, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has said." reports BBC news: "Last week, the government sparked industry concern after bringing the date forward from 2040 to 2035 in a bid to hit zero-carbon emission targets. But Mr Shapps told BBC Radio 5 live it would happen by 2035, "or even 2032," adding there would be consultation. The SMMT car trade body had previously said the 2035 figure was "concerning"."   TESLA SEEKS APPROVAL TO BUILD LONG-RANGE MODEL 3 IN CHINA "Tesla is seeking approval from Chinese regulators to offer a new China-made Model 3 variant, according to a government document." says Automotive News Europe: "Like the current China-made Model 3, which has a standard driving range of more than 400 kilometers (240 miles), it would be a rear-wheel drive vehicle, the source said, who was not authorized to talk about the matter and declined to be identified."   InsideEVs said: "The MIIT document reveals a curb weight of 1,745 kg (slightly above the 1,726 in the discontinued U.S. counterpart), a 202 kW electric motor and a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph)."   https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/tesla-seeks-approval-build-long-range-model-3-china   https://insideevs.com/news/398427/long-range-rwd-tesla-model-3-china/   DAIMLER STRUGGLES TO MEET EUROPEAN CO2 TARGETS WITH EV PRODUCTION IN QUESTION "Daimler CEO ola källenius this week said that meeting 2020 and 2021 stricter emission targets in Europe “will be a challenge.” That could mean big fines for Daimler." reports Electrek: "Källenius admitted that Daimler would have a difficult time meeting new emissions limits while speaking at the company’s annual results news conference in Stuttgart, Germany. That news follows a December report that Mercedes-Benz would delay deliveries of its EQC electric SUV in the United States. The company said it was a strategic decision to “support the growing customer demand for the EQC in Europe.” The move was also made to shift EV production to Europe, to help meet emission rules."   https://electrek.co/2020/02/12/daimler-cant-meet-european-co2-targets-but-struggles-with-ev-production/   NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   I’m thinking of driving to Italy, 1028 miles and 17 hours. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   ALREADY MORE THAN 10,000 REGISTRATIONS FOR THE ID.3 "At a press event held yesterday in Berlin, Volkswagen launched pre-booking in Europe for the first model in its new full-electric ID. model family, the ID.3. Customers’ interest in the special edition, the ID.3 1ST, which is limited to 30,000 vehicles, is significantly exceeding the brand’s expectations. Sometimes, the IT systems are unable to handle the large number of users accessing the system at the same time. This leads to long waiting times and interruptions in the registration process in some markets. Volkswagen is working hard to eliminate the hitches. Nevertheless, more than 10,000 registrations were received throughout Europe during the first 24 hours."   VW ZWICKAU PLANT ON SCHEDULE AS ID.3 ROLLS OUT "The transformation of the VW Zwickau site into a purely electric car plant is fully on schedule. According to VW, more than 200 ID.3 pre-series vehicles have already been successfully produced." reports electrive.com: "Volkswagen claims that this is the world’s first electric transformation of a large conventional car factory. In the future, the Zwickau plant will only make e-vehicles based on the Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB) and have a production capacity of 330,000 vehicles a year."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/05/10/vw-zwickau-plant-on-schedule-as-id-3-rolls-out/   DYSON PATENTS AND MEMO OFFER A CRYPTIC TEASE OF ITS FIRST EV "Sir James Dyson has revealed some early details about the company's electric car in a memo sent to employees and seen by Bloomberg and The Telegraph. A set of patents that recently became public also includes diagrams that make it seem like the vehicle will look like a Range Rover. " according to Engadget today: "While we might have to wait a bit before seeing a prototype, the company has reportedly sunk billions into the project, which already has 500 personnel. It's designed in house, after all, and will be manufactured -- in a facility in Singapore -- and sold by Dyson itself. Details unfortunately remain scant despite the sketches, but the billionaire's memo said testing will ramp up in June and that the EV is on track for launch in 2021."   BP CHARGEMASTER PLANS 100 NEW 150 KW CHARGERS IN UK THIS YEAR "British charging company BP Chargemaster (BP acquired the Chargemaster in 2018) announced a plan to install 400 ultra-fast charging stations in the UK by 2021. The first batch of 100 150 kW chargers will be installed by the end of 2019, at 50 locations (most likely at BP fuel stations) starting from July." writes Mark Kane for InsideEVs.com. Whereas Autocar says: "The rollout will help future-proof the UK’s charging network, as currently very few EVs are capable of charging at 150kW. Audi’s e-tron is one that is, and its 95kWh battery can be charged to 80% in around 30 minutes. Companies such as Pod Point, Fastned and Ionity all claim to be rolling out chargers capable of supplying power at 150kW and above, but there’s currently only a handful that are operational in the UK. BP Chargemaster’s announcement is the biggest commitment so far as a result. "   https://insideevs.com/news/348682/bp-chargemaster-100-new-chargers-uk/   https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/bp-chargemaster-install-100-ultra-fast-ev-chargers-year   SEAT ROLLS OUT ITS ELECTRIC OFFENSIVE IN BARCELONA SEAT celebrates its 69 years of history and is participating this year in the 100th edition of the Automobile Barcelona, where it has rolled out its vision of electric mobility with its two new concept cars – the first ever fully electric SEAT el-Born and the SEAT Minimo, a forward-looking approach that aims to become the companion of cities and revolutionis urban mobility. Moreover, CUPRA is also displaying the new CUPRA Formentor, the brand’s own first model, as well as the e-Racer, the first ever fully electric touring racecar. The el-Born concept car is the first SEAT that has been conceived as an electric vehicle and it is scheduled for market launch in 2020. SEAT will be the Volkswagen Group’s second brand to make a model on the MEB platform, whose assembly line is set to turn out a new generation of vehicles based on the market’s most advanced electric and connectivity technology. With a practical range of between 300 and 420 km thanks to its 58 kWh battery, this vehicle is ready to travel beyond urban limits.   BMW'S ELECTRIC SUV SPIED UP CLOSE WITH INTERIOR SHOWING "BMW's next electric vehicle, which will likely be named either the i5 or, appropriately enough, the iNEXT, was spied during testing. These photos don't reveal a lot about the exterior styling of the upcoming electrified crossover, but we do have our first look at the interior of the new BMW. At this point, we have absolutely no details about the powertrain in this new vehicle. All we have are these excellent close-up photos from our spy photographer." according to Cam for Motor1.com: "while we've gotten used to referring to this project as either the i5 or the iNEXT, the steering wheel appears to say "iNEXT" on it if you look closely. It's a small, blue, rhombus-shaped badge placed below the poorly-disguised BMW emblem."   https://www.motor1.com/news/349028/bmw-inext-interior-spy-shots/amp/   ENVISION AESC'S NCM 811 BATTERIES TO EXCEED 300 WH/KG IN 2020 "Envision AESC, formerly AESC (Automotive Energy Supply Corporation) acquired by Envision Group from Nissan (which still holds some 20% of shares), announced new 5th generation NCM 811 batteries." says InsideEVs: "Over nine years, AESC supplied more than 430,000 battery packs for electric cars (more than 90% to Nissan), having three manufacturing plants around the world with a total capacity of 7.5 GWh annually. In the longer term, the company hopes to decrease the battery cost to $50/kWh in 2025"   OPEL CORSA FULLY ELECTRIC VERSION READY TO ROLL "The new generation of the Opel Corsa will celebrate its world premiere on 4 June and can be ordered as a fully electric version from then on. In an interview, Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller promised an “attractive price” for the E-Corsa but did not specify any details." says Carrie at electrive: "At the end of last year, Opel announced its intention to open the order books for the new electric Corsa and the Grandland X as plug-in hybrids in the first half of 2019. The Corsa is likely to have the same technical data as the DS 3 Crossback. Lohscheller promised a competitive price for the market launch, which could be as early as December: “With the new Corsa, we are making e-mobility affordable for a wide range of customers. This will be a real “Volks” electric car.”   https://www.electrive.com/2019/05/10/opel-corsa-fully-electric-version-ready-to-roll/   FERRARI HYBRID SUPERCAR CONFIRMED EVO reports on Ferrari adding batteries to their next car: "Ferrari has confirmed it will reveal a new V6 hybrid supercar in a matter of just weeks, after CEO Louis Camilleri made mention of the new model’s imminent arrival during the firm’s Q1 investors’ financial call. The new supercar will be the first series-production hybrid from Ferrari, after the strictly limited LaFerrari, and will combine its new electrified components with a new V6 power unit."   https://www.evo.co.uk/ferrari/22636/ferrari-hybrid-supercar-confirmed-mclaren-has-been-put-on-notice   TESPLAYER BRINGS SPOTIFY ACCESS TO TESLA MODEL S, 3, X OWNERS "Tesla owners finally have a way to play Spotify in their Model S, Model X and Model 3 thanks to third-party, browser-based app ‘TesPlayer‘ that can manage playlists and play music directly from the vehicle’s center touchscreen." according to Simon at Teslarati "Tesla uses Spotify as its provider of choice in Europe, though vehicles in the United States are equipped with Slacker Radio instead. While Slacker is impressive on its own right, it falls short when compared to Spotify and its insanely vast plethora of content."   https://www.teslarati.com/how-to-play-spotify-tesla-music-streaming/   TESLA MODEL 3 TRACKER: CUMULATIVE PRODUCTION EXCEEDS 250,000 InsideEVs has been looking at the Bloomberg Tracker and Model 3 just hit a big number: "Today, Bloomberg’s Tesla Model 3 Tracker shows for the very first time that a quarter million Tesla Model 3 have been produced cumulatively. The counter stands at 250,276 Model 3 produced, out of which about 218,612 was confirmed by Tesla at the end of March 2019. The Tracker assumes that another 31,664 were produced in almost 40 days (more than 800 per day)."   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Show #465   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 7th May 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   BYTON GATHERS MILLIONS IN FINANCING WITH FAW AS MAIN INVESTOR "The Chinese electric car startup Byton is about to complete a 500 million dollar financing round, which will be led by China’s state-owned car manufacturer FAW with approximately 100 million dollars." writes Chris Randall for the industry service electrive.com: "Bloomberg reports this with reference insiders familiar with the situation. FAW had already invested around 260 million dollars in Byton last year. The value of the start-up, which confirmed the departure of co-founder Carsten Breitfeld in the middle of last month, is expected to rise to 2.5 billion dollars after the latest round of financing. Neither Byton nor FAW, however, have made an official statement."   Byton say of the M-Byte: "Conventional automotive styling features are giving way to innovative design icons. Side-view cameras replace side mirrors, iconic face recognition cameras provide user identification and BYTON Smart Surfaces show a situation-based interacting light design. The lounge feeling is intensified by outstanding digital provisions. First, be wide-eyed with the 49-inch coast-to-coast BYTON Shared Experience Display. Experience gesture control through BYTON Air Touch, interact using voice command and activate the main controls with the BYTON Driver Tablet. All these features underscore our vehicle’s extraordinary digital capability."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/05/07/byton-gathers-millions-in-financing-with-faw-as-main-investor/   https://www.byton.com/m-byte-concept   PRODUCTION-READY 2019 PORSCHE TAYCAN SPIED ON THE ROAD "An undisguised version of the all-electric Porsche Taycan has been snapped on the road ahead of its Frankfurt reveal" reports AutoExpress: "Porsche’s upcoming all-electric saloon has been caught almost completely undisguised ahead of its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year. These latest spy shots give us our best look yet at the Taycan’s styling, which reveals a surprising amount of 718 Boxster and Cayman influence at the front end. Smaller details such as the retractable, flush door handles, and the conventional door mirrors can also be picked out. Porsche claims this powertrain will allow the Taycan production car to cover 0-62mph in under 3.5 seconds and 0-124mph in under 12 seconds before hitting a top speed of 155mph. Crucially, we’re told the performance will be repeatable, with the electric car able to accelerate hard "over and over again without losing performance.”   Range is less important than charge speed, with an 800v system able to add 62 miles in 4minutes at peak charge rate.   https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/porsche/taycan/92807/production-ready-2019-porsche-taycan-spied-on-the-road   NOW YOUR TESLA CAN AUTOMATICALLY PRE-ORDER FAULTY PARTS "Tesla is working to decrease service wait times by offering in-car problem diagnoses and pre-ordering of necessary parts." says InsideEVs.com: "Now, the Silicon Valley electric automaker's global fleet has not only the power to diagnose issues, but also to specify what parts may be needed. This means owners are made aware of potentially what problems the EV is undergoing, but also which parts Tesla should order ahead of your Service Center visit. Of course, if the issue is dire, you may need to get the car in for service right away. But, in many cases it may be able to wait a bit. So, with the latest update, you can see the problem, order the parts, and schedule your service at a later date. Hopefully, this is just another step to provide a better overall experience for Tesla owners."   https://insideevs.com/news/348323/diagnose-pre-order-tesla-parts-automatically/   TESLA SHANGHAI GIGAFACTORY UPDATE "In the latest aerial flyover video of the Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory, the main roof structure is now essentially complete, the walls along the east side of the main structure are also complete, and the rest is rapidly being finished. The progress over the past month has been spectacular, as we can see when comparing images over that time period." says CleanTechnica today posting a drone video by Jason Wang: "whilst there remains some construction work to be done on two taller structures at the north and south ends of the factory, the central body of the structure is now basically complete. The main roof is effectively in place (roof workers can be seen in the video, finishing up the last remaining small patches), the main east side wall is up (visible in the above shot), and the west side wall is near to completion. It’s an amazing transformation from the build state just one month ago, when the structure was still in the early phases and the first few roof panels were just starting to be laid down."   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/05/07/tesla-shanghai-gigafactory-update-unbelievable-progress-over-a-single-month/   HERE ARE THE DETAILS ABOUT TESLA'S NEW INSURANCE "Tesla wants to sell its drivers cheaper car insurance based on owners’ driving and the performance of Tesla’s Autopilot driver-assistance system" says Jalopnik: "Tesla said it has better data on the performance of its cars and drivers than insurers do, and thinks it can lower insurance costs because of that." And from the WSJ: "Researchers at the insurance-industry-funded Highway Loss Data Institute have determined that the crash-avoidance features on the Tesla Model S are reducing physical-damage and injury-liability claims, while Autopilot is lowering collision claims."   https://jalopnik.com/tesla-plans-to-offer-owners-potentially-cheaper-insuran-1834554733   MITIE SELECTS PODPOINT AS SOLE CHARGEPOINT SUPPLIER "UK facilities management and professional services company, Mitie, is moving ahead with plans to electrify 20% of its fleet of smaller vehicles by 2020." says fleeteurope.com: "Mitie, which employs 54,000 people across the UK and operates a fleet of more than 3,500 compact vans and cars, has opted for Pod Point as its charge-point partner. Pod Point will support Mitie by installing 800 chargepoints at Mitie and client offices and employee homes by the end of 2020."   https://www.fleeteurope.com/en/new-energies/united-kingdom/article/mitie-selects-pod-point-ev-recharging?a=THA13&t%5B0%5D=Pod%20Point&curl=1   2020 HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC GETS A 11 KW ON-BOARD CHARGER "Hyundai Motor just deleted a press release where it informed that the new model year Hyundai Kona Electric is going to get a 11 kW on-charger in Europe. Fortunately Stefan Kopeinig saved a screenshot with the important information from the deleted press release." write Pedro for PushEVs.com today: "Besides the new 3-phase 11 kW on-board charger, the new Hyundai Kona Electric also gets the new Hyundai Blue Link app, optional new centre display touch-screen and heated rear seats. In Europe, 11 kW on-board chargers should be standard by now, with an additional charger in parallel to reach 22 kW as an option. LG Chem is already producing 11 kW on-board chargers – aimed to the European market – with an impressive energy efficiency of 95 %."   https://pushevs.com/2019/05/07/2020-hyundai-kona-electric-gets-a-11-kw-on-board-charger/   UK PURE-EV SALES ON THE UP DESPITE OVERALL MARKET DECLINE "Sales of pure-electric vehicles continued to rise in April 2019, despite the UK car market as a whole down 4% on the previous year. Pure-EVs were up more than 63%, with 1,517 registrations in April" reports NextGreenCar today: "The downward trend for PHEV registrations has been going on since the start of 2019 - barring a slight lift in February. With the effective removal of the Plug-in Car Grant for PHEVs from October 2018, it looks as though the support may have been withdrawn too soon for the market. Although hoped that the PHEV market was performing strongly and capable of standing up despite the withdrawal of the grant, a combination of an uncertain UK car market in general, plus no company car BIK rates beyond the next financial year, look to have made the sector a little shaky."   https://www.nextgreencar.com/news/8657/uk-pureev-sales-on-the-up-despite-overall-market-decline/     COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Read More About Patreon here EVne.ws/patreon   Read today’s show notes on https://www.evnewsdaily.com   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 9th February 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I can find today, and picked out the ones I think you need to know about.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   AUDI CONTINUE ADVERTISING E-TRON I’m not a fan of ads, but in my Twitter timeline I was very happy to see Audi spending money on social media with a 12 second video of the Audi e-tron in action. "Join the electric revolution. Order your #etron now" The link goes to beta.audi.co.uk/electric-car/e-tron.html with the heading "Electric Goes Audi". On the page the sections are The e-tron, Charging, Grants and Benefits, Finance and Service Plans, Technology, Pod Point and Formula E. THe e-tron from £71,490. The e-tron launch edition £82,240. "The special Launch Edition adds even more allure to the already stylish e-tron. 21” alloy wheels, black styling details and full body-coloured bumpers give the car an immediate and dramatic presence. Many advanced features, such as Matrix LED headlights, come as standard; others include the unique virtual door mirrors, Adaptive Cruise Assist and Comfort remote preconditioning. And for an extra sense of light and spaciousness, there’s a panoramic glass sunroof that displays the skies to all occupants. Image includes optional Catalunya red, metallic paint and black roof rails."   CCS COMBO CHARGES TESLA MODEL 3 The very first European-spec Model 3's in Europe are in the hands of customers and immediately they headed not to Superchargers, but to the High Powered Chargers like Fastned and IONITY. Now some of them can't charge at the full 350kW because they're waiting for liquid cooled cables but they'll certainly do 150kW I gather. This is interesting because Tesla has always has its own connector but in Europe they're fitting the CCS Combo plug. So no more CHAdeMO adapter to purchase. The previous spec of CCS was limited to 200amps but the new protocol CCS2.0 allows for a lot more juice, and that's what I mean by High Powered Charger. And so the Netherlands-based Fastned, who tweeted a graphic with the charge speed they had recorded on their system. The MOdel 3 went straight to 125kW and stayed there to 50% state of charge, dropped down to 50kW at 75% and gradually went down from there and it tapered off. What I thought was interesting was that at 50% it drops off quite quickly. But is that unfair, because my experience of Supercharger a Model S it doesn't hit peak speed for that long, but the taper off seems more gentle. Let me know!   (Explanation of why charge speed tapers for beginners)   ELON FLIES TO EUROPE And isn't it weird what the internet can show us. As I was working today I saw tweets from people with plane tracker apps saying Elon Musk had taken off in his Gulfstream jet and was headed East, crossing the Atlantic. It soon because clear he was heading to Europe. It’s interesting because he asks for his callsign to be blocked so this was an aviation expert who worked out the route of the N628TS. He landed around 1715 local time in Ostend, near to where the cars were delivered to Zeebrugge. Not only is he very hands on with any issues, but also it’s fair that over the weekend he sees for himself the logistics on the ground.   RENAULT ZOE TO GET CCS COMBO AND 22KW ONBOARD AC A story I came across because I follow Eric Feunteun, he's the Electric Vehicle Program Director for Renault: "The European passenger plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) market ended the year on a positive note, registering a near record 40,500 units in December with the 2018 count ending at a record 386,000 deliveries" according to CleanTechnica. The Zoe was the December winner with 5,382 in the month, well ahead of the LEAF, the I-PACE and any Tesla. On the year 2018 the Zoe sold 38,538. "This positive score is the result of LG providing more batteries to the French carmaker, thanks to the ramp up of its European factory in Wroclaw, Poland. Without the battery bottleneck, we should finally see the real demand for the Zoe."   And late last night I also found an article in French, so I was relying on Google Translate with this one. It's on largus.fr. The new Zoe is being revealed at the Geneva show soon, and will be based on the new Clio. Inside the main dash will be 7 or 10 inches, with the 10 inch dash also showing the sat nav just like the latest VW system. THen the centre screen will be 7" or 9.3", and have all the controls including climate. There's adaptive cruise and Level 2 self driving, so Lane Keep Assist and Traffic Jam system. The battery was upgraded in 2017 to a 41kWh. That stays although more power will be on tap, but they add CCS Combo plug AND 22kW onboard AC charging. That's the perfect combo. DC Fast Charging or AC Semi-Fast. One of my listeners Mike Winter explained it's because of the sheer amount of 22kW posts in France. Production starts in Q2 and marketed at the end of Summer. Production will be 440 a day.   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/02/03/europe-ev-sales-renault-zoe-wins-in-december-nissan-leaf-takes-2018-title/   https://translate.google.com/translate?depth=1&hl=en&nv=1&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&sp=nmt4&tl=en&u=https://www.largus.fr/actualite-automobile/renault-zoe-2-2019-tout-savoir-sur-la-nouvelle-zoe-electrique-9620390.html&xid=17259,15700021,15700186,15700190,15700248   POLESTAR 1 SPIED PLAYING ON A FROZEN LAKE "Polestar’s big debut on the automotive market will soon become a reality. The brand from Sweden is putting the finishing touches on the Polestar 1 which should go into mass production before the end of 2019. Still, apparently, there are several things that need to be refined before the sports coupe reaches the production phase." reports Anthony Karr for Motor1.com: "[Spy photographs show] a prototype of the car doing some high-speed tests on a frozen lake somewhere in Sweden. Almost every part of this trial car looks ready to be put on the assembly lines but the test drivers are probably gathering more data about the vehicle’s behavior under certain conditions."   https://www.motor1.com/news/304493/polestar-1-spied-winter-testing/amp/   ALL-NEW 2020 KIA SOUL ELECTRIC SPOTTED IN NEW COLORS InsideEVs is talking about the new Kia Soul EV: "When it debuted in LA, the all-new Kia Soul EV was seen in just a color or two, but now we get to see the long-range electric in a plethora of new hues. These new images, captured at the Kia Irvine site, show us what the Soul EV looks like in colors other than that neon green. There’s a graphite Soul EV with a tan roof. A black version with a red roof and more." From Kia: The next generation Kia Soul EV celebrated its world premiere at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. One of the most upbeat urban compact crossovers is back with even more appeal & upgrades. The vehicle will be powered by a next-generation, state-of-the-art liquid-cooled lithium-ion polymer 64 kWh battery. That’s the same as what’s found in the Kia Niro EV, which goes some 301 miles per charge (WLTP) or an estimated 260 miles EPA. Considering that the current Soul EV, with its 30-kWh battery pack, is EPA-rated at 111 miles, we figure this 2020 Soul EV, with 64-kWh on board, will travel close to 240 miles per charge, maybe even more. Sadly, since its Kia, this will be a limited offering in the U.S., so availability will be an issue. The 2020 Kia Soul EV is set to utilize a 201 horsepower electric motor, delivering 291 lb-ft of torque. However, the new battery is currently being tested to ascertain precise EPA-estimated range. Results are expected early in 2019 and will be announced at a later date." The curb weight of the Soul EV is a lot less than the eNiro, so that range might be good!   https://insideevs.com/2020-kia-soul-electric-spotted-new-colors/   TESLA AUTOPILOT APPROVED EUROPE "The Tesla Model 3 was officially approved for sale in Europe, but as it turns out the original Type Approval from RDW in the Netherlands doesn’t include the Tesla Autopilot" reported InsideEVs this morning, but then added: "Tesla has reportedly gained European approval for Autopilot." The approval for the feature arrived early on Friday from the Netherlands Vehicle Authority RDW. "The first Model 3 delivered to customers in Europe has disabled Autopilot feature, which according to Tesla is expected to be enabled in Europe next week, when a separate approval will be issued. The slight delay between car sales and enabling Autopilot is apparently caused by the requirement to additionally test the Autopilot for Model 3 (it has different hardware than Autopilot in Model S and Model X)." Meanwhile: "Tesla has opted to offer Enhanced Autopilot as standard for the electric sedan. As could be seen in Tesla’s order pages for China, the offer appears to be available only for Model 3 purchases. Pages for the Model S and X still list the driver-assist suite as a 46,300 yuan (around $6,800) addition." according to Simon at Teslarati: "The inclusion of Enhanced Autopilot is available for all Model 3 orders in the country, meaning even reservations for the Long Range RWD Model 3 –currently the most affordable Tesla available in China — include the driver-assist suite for free. Many small businesses are not profitable, and the owners do not enjoy what they do each day because they do not take time off to work on the business. They need to learn how to earn more with less struggle.  My guest today is Prosper Taruvinga, and he is a digital marketing strategist and owns a company called Livelong Digital.  No Strategy A lot of business owners are busy doing it all, but they have no idea if anything they do is really sticking long-term.  They have no strategy or systems in place for lead generation and no marketing plan to nurture and convert leads.  Bottom line, they have no idea what is working and where the money is coming from. Is it their most recent ad, speaking gig, recall system or website update?  3 M's of Marketing Message - What are your products and what are they getting out of you? What is your POD: Point of Difference?  Market - Who is that person? What is their pain point? What do they want from you and what are they going to benefit from using you? Media (to reach the market) - There is a lot of choices, so you must first know your message and market before you choose your channel.  What Is Your Song? You need to start singing your song, not the song of others. Ask yourself: What is your claim to fame? What are you known for? Why should the market single you out? Too often small business owners make the mistake of beginning with media before knowing their song. Build Your Brand When you know your message and market, you can select your media. You may transmit your message via social media, website, or podcast to find the person with the right type of pain. Do this right, and over time you will build your BRAND.  Social Media Do not treat all social media platforms equal because they are not equal LINKEDIN: This is the only place you can go online with your pants on. It's a professional platform and not used as often on weekends.  FACEBOOK: People use Facebook to be entertained and sometimes learning, but more often than not it's to laugh at others misery. Therefore you need to be part of the conversation, so speak with them, not at them.  INSTAGRAM: Is a mixed bag. If you want to test how many people are connected with you and care about what you post, try posting a good photo without any hashtags (#) and see the response. These will be your real followers.  Use social media, so people get to know, like and trust you and your brand.  Monday Morning Tip Gratitude. Be grateful for the chair you sit on, the computer you work on, the roof over your head, the business that nourishes your bank account and the opportunity to do meaningful work.  Connect with Prosper If you do a Google search for Prosper Taruvinga you will quickly find him, otherwise, go to his website Livelong Digital, or you can send him an email at prosper@livelongdigital.com.au If you have any questions about this podcast or blog, please send me a direct email at tf@tysonfranklin.com. Thursday 22nd March 2018.   MUSK PAYDAY NEWS!   His payday has been approved for a nominal value of $2.6bn, however that could be as much as $55bn worth of shares if he hits all the targets of Tesla being worth a mind-blowing $650bn. Including his current holding and presuming he doesn’t sell any shares, Elon Musk would then own 28% of Tesla, worth $182bn. As of 2017 the World’s richest person is Amazon’s Jezz Bezos at $112bn.   VW EGOLF OFF THE MENU We’ll start with some good news about e-Golf sales, but if you’re listening in North America wanted to drive a new VW eGolf you better be quick. According to insight from InsideEVs, sales have been so strong here in Europe, they are almost out of stock. After all it was the best selling BEV in Western Europe according to InsideEVs sales scorecard. VW chairman Herbert Diess said: ““Our electric vehicle sales were three times more popular in 2017 than 2016 and the e-Golf nearly sold out, so it’s clear customers are willing to switch to EVs once the price is right.”   NEXT STEPS FOR BMW Fresh news from just a few hours ago, at BMW’s Annual Accounts Press Conference they confirmed their next electric car will be the iX3. Then we’ll get the i4, previously known as the i Vision Dynamics. The only look we’ve had at it is in pure, utterly bonkers concept car form, but if the production EV was anywhere near it, it’s going to look great. From one pure battery electric vehicle (BEV) now in the guise of the i3, the i4 will be one of 12 battery-electric models BMW aims to have in showrooms by 2025. BMW CEO Harald Krueger said the i4 will be produced at the BMW's factory in Munich where it builds 3- and 4-series models. There’s also the electric MINI going into production in 2019, made here in the UK in Oxford as well as Mexico, before the electric version of the X3, the iX3, to be unveiled this year and available in 2020. In 2021 comes the iNEXT as their innovation flagbearer. But he wouldn’t say where in that timeline the i4 sits. BMW do expect, within 3 years, pure electric ranges will be 435 miles as the norm and 62miles normal for PHEVs. Autonews say BMW has secured naming rights for the badges i1 to i9 and iX1 to iX9.   VW FACTORY INVESTMENT IN USA According to Fortune VW will be investing $340million in their Chattanooga factory to build a 5-seater SUV. At the New York International Auto Show on 30th March we’ll see their new SUV concept based on the MQB platform, which of course is designed for hybrid and PHEV options. The Chattanooga factory has been viewed as the likely location for VW’s plan to produce electric vehicles.   POD POINT BREAK RECORDS In the UK, charging provider Pod Point has installed 67 charge points for Skanska, and it looks like it breaks the record for the largest in the country. And one of the largest in Europe too. It took them 2 weeks to install the 7kW chargers but, the key detail, they also included the infrastructure to add another 243 more. That would be 310 charge points in one location for Skanska employees to charge their cars whilst they work. Erik Fairbairn, chief executive of Pod Point, said: “This is the largest single site charge point installation that we’re aware of in the UK, but also a sign of a larger shift over the past six months, as more businesses wake up to the benefits of EVs. We’ve certainly seen a big increase in enquiries from companies wanting future proof charge point installations that can be scaled up as their fleets make the switch to electric.” Utility Week say “Recent research commissioned by Ovo Energy suggests existing EVs in the UK could contribute more than 114MW to the National Grid, enough to power over 300,000 homes.   HYUNDAI ELECTRIFIES THE TUCSON “Hyundai will present the facelifted version of the third-gen Tucson next week” according to CarScoops, “on March 28, during a press conference at the New York Auto Show, which will be streamed live. The crossover slots between the Kona and Santa Fe Sport has been spied numerous times in prototype form with heavy camouflage covering its body. Hyundai has also confirmed hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the SUV”. “The 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric will join the other two in New York. The zero emission vehicle comes straight from the Geneva Motor Show, where it was revealed with a 133hp (135PS) electric motor and 39.2kWh battery pack. This version can be driven for up to 186miles (300km), whereas the long-range variant can travel up to 292miles (470km) and uses a 201hp (204PS) electric motor, paired to a 64kWh battery pack. As a final note, you can watch Hyundai’s press conference, which starts on March 28, at 12:45pm EST (5:45pm CET)” on CarScoops.com   BMW 3-SERIES SPIED Finally the all new BMW 3-series has been spotted testing in the concept form and in full-on camo gear. This car will be huge for BMW. It simple must be a huge success. They want Audi A4 buyers to choose the 3-series instead, same for Merc C-Class buyers. It’s all new from the ground up. I have no doubt there will be a strong emphasis on plug ins and hybrids in the range. The hybrid tech might be the mildest of mild, just a 48v system to run systems and take the pressure of the ICE, or to do things like spool up the turbo ready for when the engine needs it. Anything which gets the CO2 down under the new WLTP emissions system which all cars must use from September this year.   Since the first version of the Ford Fusion Energi in 2013 not much has happened on their electric front. Well, nothing actually apart from announcements. Now they’re updating it for the 2019 model year which includes a Hybrid and Phev. The Fusion Energi, the only plug in Ford sell now the C-Max Energi is no more, gets a very little battery bump. From 7.6kWH to 7.9kWH. It sits in the same space as before but, considering other auto makers like Renault have done the same but with much bigger capacity increases, like the new LEAF or the Zoe ZE40, at least we know the technology exists to do that. It’s an EPA range of 25 electric miles.   I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested.
