The family business has grown significantly over its 50 plus years and helps countless families with their financial planning needs. Since Jeff's passing, Pat helps honor his brother through the Jeff Michael Sgroi Foundation. One of the signature events of the foundation is a memorial golf tournament that occurs each year to raise money for many of Jeff's favorite charities, including St. Francis High which has a baseball field named in Jeff's honor. She had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction, chemotherapy, radiation Today, Kelly is 10 years cancer-free. 01:22: I was working out one day, and I had this stabbing pain in the side of my left breast. 03:23: I'm telling my parents regardless. 04:55: How old were your kids? 07:26: I've always heard that cancer doesn't hurt so why did this hurt? 09:10: There weren't a lot of surgical options in there other than reconstruction. 10:57: October I had surgery. 13:28: I remember after my pregnancy; I couldn't feel my feet because they were so swollen. 15:09: She was telling me she had never had anyone have this kind of emotional reaction to this medication before. 17:24: I never ended up in the hospital. 18:58: I was able to accept the radiation part. 21:08: I started researching master's degree programs. 23:22: If it wasn't for cancer, I would still be a dental hygienist. 24:32: What is that one thing you wish you'd known at the very beginning? 25:45: Now I have this new implant that they think is ruptured. 27:19: Nobody told me that I was going to have issues with my chest muscles for the rest of time. 28:07: If you could only do one thing to improve health care in the U.S., what would it be and why? 30:02: I had a full hysterectomy because I was having all kinds of issues after chemo. 31:11: Thriver Rapid Fire Questions. 34:14: Aside from Cancer U, what is one resource you would recommend for cancer patients and caregivers? While many Jackson Hole locals flocked to the Tetons for a day of powder skiing on February 15, 2020, Teton County Search & Rescue volunteers loaded up their heavy packs for routine training on Snow King Mountain. But the training session quickly turned into a life-or-death emergency when longtime TCSAR volunteer Robb Sgroi came down with a rare and severe form of anaphylaxis. Most people associate anaphylaxis with bee stings, which of course is not possible in Jackson Hole in the middle of February. Anaphylaxis can also be brought on by food allergies that kick someone's immune response into overdrive and may therefore shut down vital organs. But that's not what happened here, either. So how did Sgroi—a tall, lean husband and father—end up itchy, on the ground, and spiraling into unconsciousness? This episode explores the mysterious reasons for his condition, how the team was able to diagnose it in the field, and ultimately save his life. Interviews by Matt Hansen. Editing by Melinda Binks. Thank you to Roadhouse Brewing Co. for sponsoring The Fine Line and supporting backcountry safety in Jackson Hole.

Kelley is no stranger to life's challenges. From a young age, Kelley found herself in pursuit of perfection. After surviving an eating disorder, breast cancer and a myriad of other traumas, Kelley found herself in the throws of narcissistic abuse. Today she talks about her experience, how she broke free and how she dove head first into a healing journey that would lead her to unconditional self love and a life of happiness and joy. This podcast emphasize the dangers of being married to a Narcissistic spouse or boyfriend and the fear to leave the co-dependant relationship because of the possible negative outcomes to exit it. Discussing the many tribulations throughout her life, formulating an exit plan is what helped Kelley find the right support group and family to enable her to leave. Realizing that a narcissistic person will NEVER change its behavior, it is wise to get moving forward and start focusing more on your mental well-being so you can restart your life feeling happy and fulfilled. This is no easy feet but it can be done. Kelley did it and so can you. Talk about a life full of trouble with a somewhat belated turnaround Kelley's story is just that. From her early childhood, she experienced very negative things and carried that mindset into her adult life. She believed in order to be acceptable she had to be perfect. Along the way, she developed an eating disorder, got married, and had triplets which she found very challenging to handle only she wouldn't admit that to anyone. She had to keep up appearances of being perfect. While in her forties she was diagnosed with breast cancer. That took a year-long chunk out of her life while she endured all the usual therapies for breast cancer. At that point, after twenty-five years of being a dental hygienist, she decided she wanted to help women and earned a master's degree in counseling. Even as a therapist, she experienced some very negative things like a narcissistic husband who took her passport and left her stranded in a foreign country. She determined she needed to decide as to whether she would continue to be victimized by her circumstances or step up and create the existence she really wanted for herself. She worked with a coach who told her that the negative self-belief she carried inside her was inviting all the negative stuff into her life. Anyone who has done any self-assessment and tried to turn the direction of their life around will for sure identify with her story. Those who have not done so will be inspired to take a look at themselves and set off on a new journey of their own. When you look at your life, what voice is being projected from you? Do you trust your voice as you speak, or have you come to believe that your voice does not matter? The journey beyond divorce is a time to dig and find the person you probably lost because of what others spoke or told you regarding a marriage. I had the pleasure of having an outstanding conversation with Kelley Sgroi, which her journey has led her to assist others reconnect with themselves and use the voice they were given. In this episode, Scott and Kelley talk about: · The power of being present. · Finding your voice and trusting it. · Overcoming the script that others have given you. · Rediscovering your purpose. · The power of finding yourself. · The power of perception and making sure you see your true self. Memorable Quotes “I had to learn to have a voice, to trust that voice, & to recognize that I had a say in everything.” “If you're expected to make me happy than you also have the power to make me miserable.” Links to Resources Kelley Sgroi: Facebook | IG | E-mail Kelley's conversation with Dr. G on Moving Upstream without a Paddle. Although he has been performing stand up since 2002, Mike Sgroi has always been a comedian at heart. Ever since his dad made him a tape of the Three Stooges at age 3 (ironically), Mike has been hooked! As a kid, not only did he watch comedy greats like Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, the Marx Brothers, and even the Warner Bros.'s classic cartoons, he studied them and tried to perform as good as they were. At age 9, he took his tape recorder and started to record himself, making up his own shows and voices. Unbeknownst to him, these early years of recording himself, helped him develope his comedy and a talent for improv and acting. And ironically enough, he had bad stage fright. Still, when he had his tape reorder, he was natural performer. In middle school, Mike had his first chance to show his peers how funny he was through drama class. Being funny even helped him made friends and gain confidence. By junior year of high school, Mike entered a talent show with his best friend Travis Rowe and performed Abbott and Costello's "Who's On First?". They won third place in that show which consisted mostly of rock bands and singers. They then went on to win “Best Skit in a Drama Club Show” later that same year. From there on up, Mike knew if he worked hard, he could make it in the business. While in college studying TV/Radio production Mike wanted to perform stand up but couldn't come up with the right material. That was until he went back to his dorm one day and noticed a sock on the floor. He wondered, "Is this sock clean or dirty? How can I know? Sometimes dirty socks don't smell. Do I wear a potentially dirty sock or put it in the hamper and do extra, unnecessary laundry?" And that was it; he realized that kind of humor would be perfect for stand up. The rest is history. Mike went on to graduate college in May of 2007 with his BA in Communication and became free to pursue comedy full time. With heroes like Curly, Jerry Seinfeld, Groucho Marx, Dave Chappelle, Mike Epps, Will Smith, Will Ferrell, Mel Brooks, Larry David, Steve Carrell, and yes, even Bugs Bunny (hey, Chappelle loves him!), Mike has done his homework and hopes to contribute to the legacy of great comedy.
