A powerful wake-up call for Americans who have forgotten the Christian foundations of our republic. In this thought-provoking episode, I explore how we've been blessed with countless talents yet often fail to use them for God's purposes or our nation's benefit. What talents has God given you? Whether it's athletic ability, academic intelligence, compassion, loyalty, or financial resources - we all have something. The real question is: what are you doing with these gifts? Just like in Jesus's parable of the talents, we'll be judged not by comparison to others but by how we've stewarded what we've been given. Those blessed with more carry greater responsibility. For generations, Americans have proudly rested on the achievements of those who went before us, celebrating our victories while gradually losing what they fought for. I share Calvin Coolidge's profound 1923 Memorial Day address, where he declared that American institutions are "founded on righteousness" and that the settlers who shaped our nation were "intent upon establishing a Christian commonwealth." This uncomfortable truth challenges modern notions of patriotism: you cannot be truly pro-American if you reject the general principles of Christianity that form our foundation. Most urgently, I warn that "there's going to come a final opportunity" - both for individuals to accept Christ and for our nation to return to its roots. Just as there comes a day when a spouse stops asking for attention or a child stops asking to play, there will come a time when God stops calling us to turn to Him. That reality should motivate us to action now, before it's too late.Join me in examining how our personal faith connects to America's destiny and why acknowledging our Christian heritage isn't just about preserving history—it's about securing our future. What will you do with the time and talents God has given you?Support the showThe American Soul Podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1791934/subscribe

One hundred years ago today, J. Gresham Machen published Christanity and Liberalism. Contrary to what we might think today, this book isn't about Christianity and liberal politics. Instead it's about Christianity and the false religion of modernism. For more information about this group, please visit their website at reformationboise.com. On the evening of Sept. 21 and the morning of Sept. 22, 1823, the angel Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith, teaching him and revealing the nearby location of an ancient record written on gold plates — the Book of Mormon. He quoted scripture about the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the gathering of Israel. With the approaching 200th anniversary of Moroni's visits — four total — the Church News podcast features Elder Kyle S. McKay, a General Authority Seventy and Church historian and recorder, and Keith A. Erekson, director of research and outreach for the Church History Department, talking about these historic visitations. The Church News Podcast is a weekly podcast that invites listeners to make a journey of connection with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across the globe. Host Sarah Jane Weaver, reporter and editor for The Church News for a quarter-century, shares a unique view of the stories, events, and most important people who form this international faith. With each episode, listeners are asked to embark on a journey to learn from one another and ponder, “What do I know now?” because of the experience. Today I sit down with Historian Mark William Jones and discuss his newest book: 1923: The Crisis of German Democracy in the Year of Hitler's Putsch. The story of Hitler's rise to power is documented in many histories. Jones, however, gives a much more detailed account that describes how Hitler's rise was anything but inevitable. More than anything, the work serves as a cautionary tale about how we can never take democracy for granted.Links:Buy The BookWebsitePatreon Free TrialWestern Civ 2.0 Free TrialThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5553835/advertisement

Hello. I am happy to report that Trent and I have finally returned to the podcast to check in with you and ourselves. We gauge how we are feeling leading up the June 30th premier of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and get bitter that we didn't get an invite to the premiere. Don't worry, no spoilers here (expect of what is already in the trailer), so you can listen worry free. Also, we comment on “Shrinking” and “1923” and how Harrison just MAY get himself an Emmy nod. Thanks for subscribing to us and thanks for listening to the show! A conversation with author and curator Elliot Bostwick Davis about her new book “Edward Hopper & Cape Ann: Illuminating an American Landscape” and the accompanying exhibit which runs July 22 to October 16 at the Cape Ann Museum in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Both the book and the exhibit examine the impact of Hopper's wife Jo on his work and the trajectory of his career. Their relationship started in the summer of 1923 there in Cape Ann and it wasn't long before the 41-year-old Hopper became a rising star in the art world.https://a.co/d/9stfbjChttps://www.capeannmuseum.org/exhibitions/edward-hopper/
