There's one thing every client of mine - at every level of business - wants: more clients. Oh! You, too?! I know your business, like my clients', isn't cookie-cutter, so there isn't a one-size-fits all answer to how to bring in more sales.  That's why, this week, I'm breaking it all down and walking you through exactly how I'd coach you if this was your question in You Asked, I Answered: ONE Question to book more clients this month. In episode 190, we jam on: one of the biggest roles I play for my six and seven-figure clients so they can stay out of sabotage, sustain and scale their revenue, and what I'd check in on if you wanted to fill your programs with more clients this month. why your next best action step might look different than someone else with a similar model or offer, and what you can audit to help you get clear on the “right problem to solve” to increase sales. the easiest place to look first if you want to build more momentum, and what to double down on to turn up the number of right-fit leads you attract. the surprising mindset you can step into to help you show up with the kind of confident energy that changes the game and brings you more people who can't wait to hire you. In the last episode of Take It Personally, we talked about attracting your dream clients and treating social media like a giant networking event. A second part to this is related to a question I get asked frequently in various ways: “What should I be posting?” If you've wondered what you should post if you want to book more clients, grow your business, stand out as a brand photographer, etc., this episode will be covering it all. Here are the main topics discussed: Getting back into a place of service and figuring out how you can help Using frequently asked questions for content Addressing questions that haven't been asked yet Getting into your client's shoes Showing what photography provides (more than just photos) Highlighting past clients Incorporating content about yourself The importance of messaging We discuss this even more in my group coaching program, Rebrand! Enrollment opens February 16. Rebrand is both a curriculum and coaching. We are following these same steps talked about in this episode to help you build a successful brand photography business (that makes six figures and charges four figures for a brand session). Ok Guys, I recorded this episode fresh off the plane from the USA and I was in a super productive, thriving mindset. I had even unpacked my suitcase and cleared my emails! I hadn't felt like this in a long time, so it made sense to record this episode on mindset. TBH the New Year's fever hadn't hit me and I was just too tired to set my goals and forecast the year. And I think we just need to give ourselves permission to relax, take it easy - we don't need to subscribe to the New Year hype of starting the year with a bang and rearing to go. But now I've settled in, I'm fresh from having a holiday, and I'm feeling ready to go. And to do that, we get our mindset in check. I'm seeing this a lot in our community at the moment and that's how much your mindset affects your ability to book clients. This is what I'm un-packing in this episode. I hope you're excited to listen! If you have the time, please could you rate and review this podcast or subscribe to it. In this episode, I discuss the importance of pricing your photography sessions profitably from the very beginning. I emphasize the need to use a pricing formula that takes into account your lifestyle, goals, and expenses. I also advise  photographers to craft packages that support their client experience and showcase their value. I caution against offering free or cheap sessions for too long and becoming reliant on discounts. Additionally, I recommend using easy, straightforward, whole numbers when pricing packages. I conclude by suggesting that photographers stick with their prices for a minimum of three months and aim to convert at least 40% of their leads.HIGHLIGHTS:Price your sessions profitably from the beginning to ensure a profitable and sustainable business.Craft packages that support your client experience and showcase your value as a photographer.Avoid offering free or cheap sessions for too long and becoming reliant on discounts.Use easy, straightforward, whole numbers when pricing your packages.Stick with your prices for a minimum of three months and aim to convert at least 40% of your leads.LINKS: Ep 270 | Want to Grow Your Photography Business to Full Time Income? Do you ever find yourself writing the same emails over and over again, or spending ages searching through files and folders on your laptop for documents that you use all the time? Or do you worry that you're gonna struggle to provide quality customer service as your booking numbers continue to increase? It's super essential to think about how you can optimize your processes, whether you're at the early stage, or a growth stage of your business. And today's guest will help you with all of this. Korrine Johnson, Founder of the Travel Biz Boss is an experienced travel agent who specializes in helping entrepreneurs organize and automate their travel businesses. She does a brilliant job of talking through the exact steps she's taken in her business to work smarter, not harder. In addition to talking us through those processes, she also shares the tools that she uses in her business. This is a wonderful episode for if you want to continue growing your business, but you worry that you either can't handle the increased demand and/or can't afford to hire additional help. Or you're concerned that if you do continue to take on that demand, you're going to jeopardize the quality of the customer experience. This is also a great episode if you're just starting out because as Korrine says, the best time to implement these systems is in the beginning when you do actually have a bit of extra time. Then once your business does start to grow, you can actually handle that growth. When it comes to business, I'm generally a very organized person. But recently I've fallen off the bandwagon a bit. But after speaking to Korrine, I literally spent about three hours reorganizing all of my folders, creating new email templates, and setting up new automations and it felt so good afterward. I've saved time by automating repeated tasks while getting so much more done. And when I'm not working, I can fully relax without the distraction of unfinished projects bouncing around in my head. That's the beauty of optimization and automation and there really is no better person to talk on that subject than Korrine Johnson! Find the show notes and resources mentioned in the episode here. Because, today, we're discussing how to identify keywords for SEO that will help you book more clients as a photographer.  In this episode, we discuss/answer:  What are keywords, and how do they help searchers find your content? The differences between head and long-tail keywords, and why you want to use long-tail keywords. The “rules” you need to follow when choosing long-tail keywords, including: You need a long-tail keyword for every webpage and blog post you want search engine users to be able to find. Every webpage and blog post needs a different long-tail keyword. You cannot use the same keyword on more than one page.  Your long-tail keyword needs to be relevant to the page you're using it on. If your keyword isn't relevant, search engines will see this, and your search ranking may be Long-tail keywords have four or more words. You can occasionally use three words.  Your long-tail keyword should have between 1-100 searches per month. This helps ensure that your website appears when people are specifically looking for your products or services. If your market is saturated, you can occasionally get away with 100-1000 searches.  The steps needed to identify long-tail keywords for your web pages and blog posts, which include: Create a spreadsheet so you can keep track of which long-tail keyword goes with which web page or blog post. Tweetable Takeaways from this Episode: “The time that you give something is what it expands to. So find the things that are working and that you know that you want to keep replicating.” -Sheri Kaye HoffClick To TweetTranscript (Note, this was transcribed using a transcription software and may not reflect the exact words used in the podcast) Tom Poland 00:10 Welcome, everyone, to another edition of Marketing the Invisible. My name is Tom Poland beaming out to you from little Castaways Beach in Queensland, Australia, joined today by Sheri Kaye Hoff. Sheri, good day from down under. A very warm welcome. Where are you hanging out? Sheri Kaye Hoff 00:23 I'm hanging out in Parker, Colorado, and it's a beautiful day! Tom Poland 00:26 Colorado, where the sun is shining and the birds are singing! For those of you who don't know Sheri, Sheri has this really interesting moniker, which kind of sparks me. It excites me! She's a transformational business coach using intuition, vision, omnipresent marketing, and mindset mastery. Fascinating combination! Working with coaches, consultants, experts, professionals, and small business owners since 2007. So pluck that 14 years. And she really just helps them to experience optimal clients, scale their business, and, ultimately, live the lifestyle that they really want. So excited that you're here, Sheri! Thank you for giving up your time. Our title is, “How to Book More Clients in Two Weeks or Less”. And Sheri's going to share with us how to do that in less than seven minutes. Sheri, our time starts now. Question number one, who is your ideal client? Sheri Kaye Hoff 01:22 My ideal clients are service-based business owners who struggle between that feeling of making a difference and making the profits that they want. So, you know, we need to have both as conscious business owners. Tom Poland 01:35 Right. Yes, the fulfillment and the bank account. So tell us more, if you would, question number two, six and a half minutes left. Tell us more, if you would, about the problem you solve for them. Sheri Kaye Hoff 01:45 Yeah, so one of the biggest problems that people have when they come to me is that they are in this place, working really hard for, maybe, not very much money. You know, I mean, they're hard workers. They believe in what they do. And they think, you know, “If I just work harder, I'm going to somehow make it or somehow hit that breakthrough.” And so they're really in a place of maybe frustration, burnout, questioning their decision making and being in business. But they really are an expert, and they bring a lot to the table and the world needs them. Tom Poland 02:19 Right. Perfect, well-articulated! I think a lot of people listening to this will be relating to that. Working harder, working longer, finding it's not ultimately the solution! So tell us, in addition to that, question number three, and we've got five and a half minutes left. What are some of the other symptoms that your ideal clients are going to be noticing coming up in their life before they start working with you? Sheri Kaye Hoff 02:39 Yeah, so one of the big things is fear. And a lot of times, it's that unnamed fear. You know, they don't even maybe realize it's fear. But typically, it's been a program that has been running in their heads for a long time. And so, you know, maybe fear that they can't make it, fear that no matter what they do, it might not work out the way that they want it to, fear of rejection, fear of just not being good enough. All of those things, and maybe just one per person, but sometimes people have all of it. And when it's swimming underneath, most people push it down, and they'll work through it, but they're really not eradicating that. That same fear tends to keep coming up and coming up. And it can be paralyzing and really steal your everyday joy in your business. And so, yeah, if people are feeling that fear and kind of that, you know, sometimes even a little bit of panic. And it doesn't matter if you're a six-figure business owner just starting out, that panic can set in at any time. You could be a seven-figure business owner and still have those moments of panic and question. Tom Poland 03:44 Anxiety. So we're talking about people that are determined to succeed. They understand that fulfillment is important, Helping clients is important, but they're pretty stressed by the sound of it. They're going to be trying stuff. So question four and we've got four minutes left. What are some of the common mistakes that you noticed that people are making trying to solve that problem that, other than working long and hard, what else are they doing that you can share with the audience to save them some frustration, maybe? Sheri Kaye Hoff 04:10 Well, one of the things is, I think, oftentimes, people don't give a strategy time to work. So they're always maybe trying a new strategy or a new coach or a new something or other. And they don't go within because it's a mix of learning techniques and strategies, but then really, going within yourself to feel out what feels like you and sounds like you and is you. And so I think when people have that, “Well, I better try.” It's kind of that shiny thing syndrome, really. Tom Poland 04:42 Just chase another squirrel. Sheri Kaye Hoff 04:43 Yeah. And you don't get the traction in your business when you do that. Tom Poland 04:47 Right. Yeah. And it's difficult for folks to continue and persist with something that probably, actually believing, is the right strategy, and they're getting results straight away. So let's flip it and let's start sharing a bit about what folks can do to solve the problem. We've got three minutes left. Question five, one valuable free action. One of your best tips you could give people that's not gonna solve the whole problem, but it might take them a step in the right direction? Sheri Kaye Hoff 05:10 Yeah. So I think the biggest step that people can take is to take a look at what they're already doing and assess priorities to what they're already doing. So usually people will say, “I need to spend, you know, six to eight hours in my business”, but maybe what you're actually doing only needs an hour of time. So I'm a fan of compartmentalizing things into- you know, the time that you give something is what it expands to. So find the things that are working and that you know that you want to keep replicating. See how much you can squeeze those into very short compacted impactful time periods. And then you're open to trying some new strategies. But if you're just working a gazillion hours, you know, adding something new, it's just gonna feel overwhelming. Tom Poland 06:02 Right, even more so. Make a list, prioritize it, then it sounds like schedule a block of time for each task. Sheri Kaye Hoff 06:08 Yes, yeah. And have very few priorities. Like I would suggest three, you know. Tom Poland 06:14 Not 24! Sheri Kaye Hoff 06:15 Right. Tom Poland 06:16 Okay, cool. So question six, and we've got one minute, 45 seconds left, one valuable free resource. Where can people go to find out more about your work, maybe get some more help for free? Sheri Kaye Hoff 06:26 Yeah, so I am a fan of deep thinking and big vision. But I also know when people are in that panic or anxiety, looking at, “What can I do in the next two weeks?” So I have a free guide called, “How to Book More Clients in Two Weeks or Less”. And that's on my website. You just go to sherikayehoff.com, and it's right there. And it's not a long thing to get through. And there will be something that jumps out at you that you can do today or tomorrow or within the next two weeks, to start bringing more clients in. Tom Poland 06:53 More clients in, super! So it's Sheri, S-H-E-R-I, Kaye, that's K-A-Y-E, H-O double F. Sherikayehoff.com. Go get it. We've got 55 seconds left. What's the one question I should have asked you, but didn't? Sheri Kaye Hoff 07:08 Okay, so I wish you would have asked me why it's important to be happy and be a great business owner? Tom Poland 07:13 Oh, yeah, that's a great question! So what's the answer to that one? Sheri Kaye Hoff 07:17 The answer is that your happiness is your vibration. And the more you can be happy and fulfilled and full of joy, the more of the good stuff you bring in– better clients, better life, everything! Tom Poland 07:30 Absolutely. It's almost magical! Sheri Kaye Hoff, thank you so much for your insight, your wisdom, and your time. Tom Poland 07:39 Thanks for checking out our Marketing The Invisible podcast. 017. How to Create a Client Experience that Allows You to Book More Clients & Raise Your Prices

Priority Pursuit

017. Friend, can I tell you something that you likely don't want to hear? The quality of the client experience that you offer matters far more than the quality of your products or services.  I don't know about you, but as a photographer, I love what I do, and I take a lot of pride in my work. I want my images to speak for themselves, and I want people to book with me because they love my photos.  But, here's the thing. The average person doesn't know what makes a great photo. The average person doesn't look at a photo and think, “Whoa. I bet that harsh light was hard to shoot in. Victoria killed it!” Or, “I so appreciate how Victoria used lead lines and framed the couple in these images. She has to be our wedding photographer!”  Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't master your craft or offer anything less than great work, but with this in mind, there comes a point where the key to being able to successfully sell your products or services at a luxury or just a higher price point that allows you to make ends meet is the client experience you offer.  With this in mind, the next few solo episodes of Priority Pursuit are going to focus on strategic ways you can elevate your client experience. We'll be talking about ways you can surprise your clients, how to create the perfect welcome box, and more. And, today, we're going to start by simply thinking about and mapping out what you'd like your client experience to look like touchpoint by touchpoint with your ideal customer in mind.  - Step 1: Know that the basis of a great customer experience is to under promise & over deliver.  - Step 2: Determine what's most important to your ideal customer in regards to your products or services.  - Step 3: Map out what you'd like every step & touch point of your customer experience to look like.  You can find a more detailed version of this episode's show notes at: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-create-client-experience-allows-book-more-clients-raise-prices  Mentioned Links & Resources Show Notes: https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/how-create-client-experience-allows-book-more-clients-raise-prices    “Episode 014: 4 Easy Ways You Can Under Promise & Over Deliver to Your Customers” - https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/four-ways-you-can-under-promise-over-deliver-to-your-clients/  The Power of Moments by Chip Heath and Dan Heath - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1501147765/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1501147765&linkCode=as2&tag=rayburnvict05-20&linkId=e808b659abf487b835727c134bd11ca1  Katelyn James' Bridal Guide - https://katelynjames.com/kj-bridal-guide  Katelyn James Courses - https://katelynjames.com/store  How to Create a Customer Avatar with DigitalMarketer - https://www.digitalmarketer.com/blog/create-customer-avatar-youtube/ Pixellu Smartslides - https://www.pixellu.com/smartslides/  Episode 011: How to Build Your Team as a Creative Entrepreneur with Jessie Roseberry of Roseberry & Co. - https://victoriarayburnphotography.com/build-your-team-as-a-creative-entrepreneur-jessie-roseberry/  Join the Priority Pursuit Podcast Facebook Community - https://www.facebook.com/groups/179106264013426    Receive 50% Off Your First Order with Photographer's Edit - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/pe/  Save 50% on Your First Six Months of Quickbooks Self-Employed - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/quickbooks/  Receive $20 Off Your First Pair of Rothy's - http://victoriarayburnphotography.com/rothys

Wouldn't it be amazing if you could grab a microphone (whether that's virtually or in-person) and share a message that delivered value for your audience and brought in new clients? Selling from the stage growing your business with speaking is hands down my favorite way to grow and scale my business. And it's not my favorite because it's a sleazy get rich quick scheme. It is my favorite sales strategy because we get the privilege of educating our audience, serving from the stage, and delivering a transformation that can change our audience's lives… all while growing our business at the same time. What more can we possibly ask for in a sales mechanism? But with so many changes happening to the way that we speak and speaking looks a little bit different these days, you might be wondering if you can still leverage speaking to increase your sales. In today's episode of The Speak to Scale Podcast I'm going to show you exactly what you need to include in your presentation to increase your conversion from the stage. Show Notes Instagram Website   Facebook Insiders Group   Trello for Photography One of the most frequently asked questions I get from new photographers is how do I book more clients? I always ask what their client experience looks like.  If you can create a client experience that wows your clients, they are going to become walking talking billboards ready to sing your name each and every time someone they know is looking for a photographer.     We all know word of mouth advertising is one of the best forms of advertising but how do you start to get people talking?  The answer is your client experience, give them an experience they can't help but talk about.    What is a Client Experience? So what exactly is client experience, or a client workflow?  A client experience is a step by step journey each client will take with you from booking to session prep, to the session, and finally your final product delivery.     There is one key to this process that is so simple yet often the MOST overlooked and that is the simple concept of under-promising and over-delivering.    Under Promising Over Delivering So where are some areas where photographers can under-promise and over-deliver?  The first would be on turn around time when it comes to images. If you know it is going to take 2 weeks for you to edit images and get them uploaded into your online gallery and sent over then you should tell them it will take longer than that.   Just because it should only take you 2 weeks does not mean that it will every time.  Kids get sick, you get sick. Life can happen and suddenly you could be passed that two-week mark.  By building in a week or two buffer you are giving yourself some room to breathe if something comes up.  But if all goes to plan you look like a hero for getting images back to your client faster than expected.    Another area photographers can under promise and over deliver is on the number of images. If you generally produce 50 images during a family session or an engagement session, then only promise 35-40.  This does a few things. It is over-delivering on the promise, but it can also make clients feel a little extra special, and give them a bit of a confidence boost.  Welcome Packets Welcome packets are one of the easiest ways to start the client experience off on the right foot.  A welcome packet can be printed for more of a high end feel, or you can even design a simple pdf that you email over. Inside your welcome packet you can send tips on what to wear, and how they can prepare for their session.    For weddings, you could include planning tips for brides, sample timelines, or a list of top vendors in your area.  My bridal guide includes the pros and cons of doing a first look, as well as educating my brides on sunset photos.    The point of the welcome packet is to provide all the information clients will need to have a successful portrait experience. Answer questions before they even ask them and it also validates their decision to choose you as a photographer right away.  With wedding photography, clients are often booking you pretty far in advance and putting down a pretty big deposit.  Getting a printed welcome packet in the mail shortly after cutting a check can help build your client's confidence in you, and gives them a reason to talk about you to others.     So should you do a printed or a digital welcome packet? I think this depends on your price points.  If you are on the higher end I would definitely suggest printed. If you are on the lower end I think digital is totally fine!  I have found that printed material does tend to get read more than just an emailed PDF.   Communication Communication between you and your client is also part of the overall experience.  After each and every session I shoot about an hour after I will send my clients a quick text.  This text is short and just thanks them for choosing me as their photographer, tells them how much fun I had at the shoot, and how I can't wait for them to see their final images!     After the wedding, I send out an email that congratulated them on their first day of marriage, and thanks them again.  I remind them that their blog post will be up on Wednesday and that they can expect their full gallery within 4-6 weeks. I know that this will take me far less time, but it sets the expectation so that I can exceed it.    Client Gifts The next part of the client experience I want to talk about is client gifts. Client gifts are such a fun way to show off your personality, and brand, and surprise and delight clients. Client gifts don't need to be super fancy or expensive.  Even a handwritten thank you, card counts, and will only cost a few dollars between the card and the stamp.  Client gifts are fun, but they need to be purposeful.  I send out a client gift each time after my clients have spent money with me for a few different reasons. One it validates their choice and builds anticipation, but two each gift also serves as a trigger for my clients to talk about me.     Consider Cost   The Biggest thing I want to stress when it comes to client gifts is that you figure out the cost and make sure you are taking that into account when you are setting your prices.    The next thing about client gifts is making sure that they are on-brand for you.  As a wedding photographer, my clients are young and have just moved in with each other. My brand is a pretty modern farmhouse I love all things chip and Joanna from HGTV's show fixer upper.  When clients book with me I send out their bridal guide, as well as a candle from Chip and Joanna's store magnolia.  I also include a small heart-shaped ring dish, and a handwritten card. I have a small ring dish next to my kitchen sink, and next to my bed to keep my wedding right safe while I'm cleaning or when I'm sleeping. Client gifts are fun and nice, but they need to serve a purpose, otherwise they are just taking away from your bottom line.    When designing your client experience, you want to make sure you map out what needs to happen at each step along the way and be sure to account for the cost if any for those steps.  Remember to track your packaging costs, shipping, and any other supplies.    If you are trying to come up with ideas for client gifts check out teak and twine .com they have beautiful creative gift boxes that they will ship directly to your clients for you.  It's also a great spot to get ideas for gift boxes you could put together yourself!    Don't Run The Risk While client gifts are great and can certainly help you up to your prices. The biggest part of the client experience is under-promising and over-delivering.  I have talked to so many people who have worked with other photographers who told them photos would be ready in a few weeks. But in reality, it took months to get them back.  The thing is if the photographer had told them it would be a few months from the get-go they probably wouldn't have batted an eye at it. But now the expectation they had wasn't met.  This conversation usually ends with “ I like this photographer, she does good work but I probably won't go back again.”    That is not something we want our clients to be saying to themselves or to anyone else.  Instead, we want them to be blown away by their experience ready to book again, and getting all their friends on board too!    Homework So here is your homework sit down this week and map out each step your client will go through with you.  When will you send reminder emails, when will you send a welcome packet?  When can they expect images back, when do you actually plan to have images back?    I'd love to hear how you are under-promising and over-delivering in your business. Join our Wise Photographer's Facebook Group and join in on the conversation.

It's something seemingly tiny and insignificant but it can stop SO many people from even inquiring about your service.   In fact, if I land on a site that is making this mistake, I don't inquire about their services either.
