We're back to discuss BÖC's third album Secret Treaties (1974). It's a lot of things: definitely their first gold LP, probably their weirdest, and possibly their most thematically consistent. Inarguably it is a creative triumph for Eric Bloom (while ironically also serving as a creative low point for Buck Dharma). This is a big one, folks. Let's get into it! Paul talks about his friends in vintage instruments, producer Perry Margouleff (perrymargouleff.com) and amp builder Mitch Colby (ColbyAmps.com) who are working on the new Sundragon amps with Jimmy Page. Paul tells us about growing up in Downey California and starting on lap steel and eventually moving to guitar and played in the band “the Jades” with his Rickenbacker 6 string that he eventually gave to Elvis Costello. Paul explains how Paul Bloomfield helped him with his guitar playing. Paul then tells us about as a gift from the band Pink Floyd. He got to play with Pink Floyd on stage in London Arena. He'd been working with them since they began on Colombia Records. Again Paul's book is called “Gliders Over Hollywood” and it will be available April 15th. On this episode, we are joined by Justin Keane and Amy Young, the fantastic indie rock duo known as Canyons And Locusts.Canyons and Locusts is a melodic noise-rock duo from Boston and Phoenix, consisting of Justin Keane (vocals, guitar) from Boston and Amy Young (drums, backing vocals) from Phoenix. The band's sound is defined by edgy guitar riffs, pulsating drum beats, and emotionally charged vocals, blending indie rock influences with an experimental edge. Both Keane and Young honed their craft in previous bands before joining forces to create Canyons and Locusts. The duo's music evokes a raw, atmospheric energy, with each song exploring different emotional landscapes. The band's upcoming 2025 concept album, "The Goal Gigolo", is inspired by a vivid dream Keane had about a character of the same name. The album is described as a cinematic journey, drawing comparisons to Robert Altman's film "The Long Goodbye". Their 2024 EP, "The Red Angel", marked a significant step in their sonic evolution, featuring the singles "Buck Dharma's Eyes" and "To Art Bell." The track "Anna Save A Life" will appear on "The Goal Gigolo", adding to the anticipation for the full album's release. Canyons and Locusts continue to push boundaries with their unique blend of storytelling, sound, and emotion.MusicCanyons And Locusts "Anna Save A Life"Additional MusicThe Charms "So Pretty"The Dogmatics "I Love Rock N Roll"Produced and Hosted by Steev Riccardo

Back in 2002, Ruy Teixeira took note of demographic trends that spelled good news for the Democratic Party's 21st-century prospects. Just two decades after the release of The Emerging Democratic Majority, he found himself wondering something else entirely: Where Have All the Democrats Gone? With what appears to be the coronation of Kamala Harris, he and the gang consider how pessimism, disorderliness, and faculty lounge talk have thrown America's political coalitions for a loop.Plus: Steve, James, and Rob finally get a chance to respond to the news that broke shortly after they wrapped last week; they make a couple of predictions for the VP's VP pick; and James calls on all Ricochet rhythmists to send the songs! (Buck Dharma kicks things off with "End of Every Song")- Opening sounds: Bibi Goes to Washington, Biden “Becomes” Washington, Kamala cracks up

Apparently, thousands of people playing the cowbell at once doesn't work well.
Rock 'n' roll at it's finest. This episode is with the legendary Buck Dharma of Blue Oyster Cult. The band started as BOC in 1967 and has been releasing albums and touring ever since. They have a new album titled "Ghost Stories", which features rare and unreleased music from as far back as the late 70's. These songs, for the most part were never offically released and have been sitting in a vault since they were originally preformed. Now, with the help of A.I., the music has been cleaned up and put onto this one special album. Buck is one of the original founding members, guitarist and vocalist and performs such hits as "Don't Fear The Reaper", "Godzilla" and "Burnin' For You". He shares his history with the band along with insight to how this new album was created.
Buck is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Blue Oyster Cult who recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. He has written and done the vocals on their biggest hits which are Don't Fear the Reaper, Godzilla, and Burning for You. Blue Oyster Cult still tours to sold out crowds and has recorded sixteen studio albums.
Red and Jerry talk with Legendary Blue Oyster Cult Guitarist Buck Dharma about thier new album "Ghost Stories" and of coarse we gotta talk about some adding some Cowbell.
This is an episode I wrote in the Southern Studio, so I may have been in a better mood than usual to write it than I ordinarily am, given the subject matter. When Blue Öyster Cult first got together, they were a college band from Stony Brook, New York. That's not far from where I grew up. Oddly, none of the band's original members are from Long Island. Two of them grew up in New York City, one in upstate NY and the last was born in Alabama but moved to the Island as a child. Go figure. They took on the name Soft White Underbelly first and used that from 1967-1969. Then they caught a bad review for a show and decided to change their name. After a few permutations they landed on Blue Öyster Cult, which they didn't really like. But the fact is, they didn't care enough at that point to come up with anything else. I touched on this briefly in the episode itself, but it's pretty clear that the band members were still pretty fond of "Soft White Underbelly". Oftentimes when they played smaller clubs around the NY Metro area, that's the name they'd use in those clubs. So when fans of BOC saw an ad in the local newspapers touting that band in the 1970s and 80s, they knew they were actually in for a Blue Öyster Cult show. "Don't Fear the Reaper" is notable for several different reasons. It was a new recording studio and they experimented with their sound in different ways. That would include having Buck Dharma sing the lead. (Dharma is the lead singer on "Godzilla" and "Burnin' For You", so they may have hit on something there.) You'll hear about some of the bells and whistles they use. And yes, you'll hear a little bit about Saturday Night Live and how they feel about it. Click here for a transcript of this episode. We have heavy metal legend Buck Dharma of Blue Öyster Cult on the show! We discuss the latest studio album Ghost Stories coming out April 12, as well as how many of the songs have a long history with the band, if having so many demoes of the tracks through the years changed the new recordings, and how they play legacy songs differently throughout the years for the fans to keep things interesting. He also discusses what it's like to perform newer material at this stage in the band's career, the powerhouse that was MC5 and doing a rendition of their classic “Kick Out The Jams”, and why you don't want to sleep on any upcoming tours with Blue Öyster Cult. Petar and Sylvia discuss the week's news, including Skid Row announcing a major line up change and the all-star vocalist who will be filling in, Mudvayne's Chad Gray talking about what's been obvious for years regarding Motley Crüe, and AC/DC selling a boat load of tickets in 24 hours for their upcoming European Tour. I've had so many great guests on the Inner Circle Podcast, and it's aways great to go back and revisit some of the best interviews. One is with Don Roeser, better known as Buck Dharma, lead guitarist and and one of the founders of the band Blue Oyster Cult, in an interview for podcast 227 back in 2018. Buck wrote and did the lead vocals on the band's best known hits, including “Don't Fear The Reaper,” “Godzilla,” and “Burnin' for You.” During the interview we talked about the early days of the band when it was known as Soft White Underbelly, his best studio experiences, the evolution of his home studio, and much more. I originally spoke with Buck via Skype from his home in New York.

The Classic Film: Madman (1981) "A legendary psychopathic murderer stalks a summer camp” (IMDb.com). In a movie that probably thinks it's more serious than it is, this killer—functionally a combination of Jason and Candyman—probably could have been replaced by Bigfoot and been more interesting. The Modern Film: Fear Street: Part Two - 1978 (2021) "Shadyside, 1978. School's out for summer and the activities at Camp Nightwing are about to begin. But when another Shadysider is possessed with the urge to kill, the fun in the sun becomes a gruesome fight for survival” (Netflix). The Fear Street trilogy just gets better as it takes us to 1978 and we learn a bit more about how the curse works and things get a bit more personal. Back in 1978 I saw Blue Öyster Cult and it completely changed my life. I consider this band the ultimate Rock n Roll band. They have Hits,Deep Tracks, Smoking Musicianship and an unreal live show. They have a brand new record out right now called The Symbol Remains and it is unbelievable. Do yourself a favor and buy it today and when this Covid insanity is over go see them Live. Think about this, in 2022 Blue Öyster Cult will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary. I love this band and It was an Honor to talk to Buck. Candles Lit DDR

Chris & Kelsey are safer at home and have nothing better to do than watch a 6-hour television miniseries about a global pandemic and then record one of the podcast's longest episodes yet! The Classic Miniseries: The Stand (1994) "After a deadly plague kills most of the world's population, the remaining survivors split into two groups - one led by a benevolent elder and the other by a maleficent being - to face each other in a final battle between good and evil” (IMDb.com). Even though this 6-hour miniseries is based on one of Stephen King's longer novels, this televisual epic had everything 90s TV was good at -- namely a high confidence-to-capability ratio! The Modern Film: Quarantine (2008) "A television reporter and her cameraman are trapped inside a building quarantined by the CDC, after the outbreak of a mysterious virus which turns humans into bloodthirsty killers” (IMDb.com). Classic rock legends Blue Öyster Cult may be the first band to feature an umlaut in their name, but the band -- which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year -- was no gimmick. They released a string of major hits in the '70s, with their most transcendent classic of course being 1976's "(Don't Fear) The Reaper." The record that still haunts as deeply as ever, continually finding new ways to enter the zeitgeist.Of course, that's partially due to that iconic cowbell. The use of the instrument was given even more attention thanks to Will Ferrell's classic 2000 Saturday Night Live sketch featuring Christopher Walken's inimitable deadpan as Bruce Dickinson incessantly demanding, “More cowbell!”Interestingly, Dickinson wasn't even involved in making the record -- and "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" isn't about what you might think it is. In this 14th episode of The Story Behind the Song podcast, Blue Öyster Cult's Buck Dharma discusses "The Reaper" with host Peter Csathy, touching on the song's lasting impact, its position in the modern music pantheon, and, of course, that cowbell.Listen to the podcast above, or watch a segment of the discussion via YouTube. Make sure you're following The Story Behind the Song wherever you get your podcast, as there will be a special Halloween episode featuring Danny Elfman discussing Oingo Boingo's “Dead Man's Party." You can also keep an eye on the Consequence Podcast Network for updates on all our series, and follow host Peter Csathy on Twitter @pcsathy and at Creative Media.Blue Öyster Cult are currently on the UK leg of their 50th anniversary tour, but they have more US dates lined up for November.
