She started Communal Table Wellness as a way to explore all those intersections in her work with individual coaching and organization consulting. “…as an East Asian, rice is also big in our culture, so I would not advocate for my clients who are from those backgrounds to have to ditch the things that mean so much to them, that bring so much enjoyment to them.” On This Episode You Will Learn: Culturally Inclusive Nutrition Coaching Non-Judgmental Approaches to Nutrition Teaching, Research and Counseling Around Nutrition Connect with Yumlish! Ethnotek is so much more than just a bag! It's a celebration of culture, it's a community, it's a global movement! The one thing all of the Ethnotek weavers and artisans have in common is the fact that their craft is disappearing. Every year they see less and less local demand for their fabrics due to low yield and long lead times.Traditional techniques are quickly being replaced by machines and factory labor in major cities, drastically reducing the number of jobs and industry in the regions where it is needed most.By creating new demand for these traditional handcraft practices, the brand and its customers are in a sense forging an effort to keep them alive and well and in the same villages from which they came. The last and most important part of the mission is to spread the idea that we should all celebrate each other's differences more often. The only way culture can stay alive is if we keep it that way.Culture runs deep; from the tribes of Yunnan Province to the Subways of New York City. From the Ghats of Varanasi to the Cafes of Paris. To ensure the survival of these incredibly interesting differences we must learn about them and retell their story. This is why we see our bags as a flag. A flag that you wave which says, "I care".Check out Ethnotek's Sourcing Roadmap: This is an article to describe Ethnotek's internal ethical guidelines for working with artisans and is to provide suggestions to designers & business owners who are looking to practice Cultural Inclusion in their supply chain."We in no way claim to be experts in this department and are still learning, but we do have over 10 years of first-hand experience and not only does our system work well, everyone is happy and having fun in the process!"Listen to more Causeartist podcasts here.Powered by: ReFi Jobs - ReFi jobs curates the best new regenerative finance jobs at leading companies and startups - Learn more---> Check out the Causeartist Partners here.---> Subscribe to the Causeartist Newsletter here.Listen to more Causeartist podcast shows hereFollow Grant on Twitter and LinkedInFollow Causeartist on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram

Data Futurology - Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence From Industry Leaders

With AI determining many system-led decisions, from who gets a job, a loan or business opportunity, the need to ensure diversity and inclusivity in the creation of algorithmic rules becomes more important. In our fifth episode, we have Glenda Crisp, Chief Data Officer at National Australia Bank. She started her career in tech as a programmer in a bank in Canada and then went on to get an MBA. Before being recruited by NAB, she worked at TD Bank in Toronto. As the Chief Data Officer at National Australia Bank, both her business and technological side come together. Diversity is a key topic at NAB. They have 6 pillars of inclusion that they target, which are: Gender Balance, NABility and Neurodiversity, NAB Pride, Cultural Inclusion, African Inclusion and Indigenous. When it comes to bias you have to actively look for it and manage it, given that AI learns from data, historical data is a result of human decisions and humans are biased. NAB has an ethical framework for the use of data, machine learning and AI. Quotes: "Nothing moves faster than technology [so] pay attention to the big themes that are going on across industries." "We can’t just ask AI to be more fair but we actually need to prescribe math that is fair." The Gospel According to Mark • August 30th, 2020 Inclusion is a tricky word in the evangelicalism of 2020 but it wasn't for Jesus. Mark helps us to reimagine the citizenry of God's Kingdom here in chapter 9. To extend welcome to a child - and thereby share in their status - is not merely a pious gesture; no, it's an act aligned with the heart of the Kingdom of God. Or to say that another way, inclusivity is at the heart of the Kingdom. To be inclusive in a community of Jesus is to extend the welcome of Jesus. Period. Without exception.

In these times of divisive politics and unapologetic incivility by public figures, we’re proud to discuss Commonalities with Thought Leader Sheema Khan on this week’s INSPIRING LEADERS Podcast. “Rather than running on auto pilot and delegating critical thinking to others, it starts with the Leaders to take the time, to evaluate, think for themselves and use their intuition.” Do you believe the “Official Story” that you are told? Or do you focus on the facts and make up your own mind? As leaders, the former can lead to divisiveness and disaster and the latter can bring inclusion and innovation. “I’m inspired by leaders who fearlessly speak truth to power.” Sheema Khan was born in India and moved to Canada in the 1960s. She later earned a Masters in Physics and a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics at Harvard. She is a Scientist and a person of Faith, and she insists that these are mutually exclusive. Sheema is currently a Patent Agent with Shapiro Cohen LLP, and monthly columnist for the national Newspaper, the Globe and Mail. She Authored the book "Of Hockey and Hijab”, and her interests include hockey, soccer and feminism. “Not being afraid of going against the grain at times is key.” We first met Sheema during preparation of her 2016 TEDx Talk which deeply touched the audience and earned a long, powerful standing ovation. Not only is she a compelling speaker and writer, but Sheema has a unique and refreshing perspective on the Commonalities that we all share. “We have much more in common in terms of human values, human dignity and aspirations. If we remember that, build toward that and help each other to achieve that, we will build a model society.” Join us while we discuss Cultural Inclusion with this humble and brilliant thinker.
