They acknowledge the difficulties of the teenage years and the need for patience and understanding.DaJuan's journey to parenthood @ 8:00DaJuan shares how he and his husband decided to foster-to-adopt their two sons, Mark and Duke, rather than waiting to have children until his acting career was more established. In this episode of the Transition Drill Podcast, go into the life and experiences of DaJuan Freeman, whose journey from Navy veteran to becoming an IFBB professional bodybuilder is nothing short of inspirational. DaJuan, an Aviation Electronics Mate and then Firefighter/EMT after he transitioned out of the military, shares his raw and authentic story, touching on themes of trauma, resilience, and transformation that resonate deeply with military veterans and first responders alike. Growing up DaJuan faced the challenges of a community riddled with gangs and violence. These early experiences of trauma and adversity set the stage for a life characterized by fighting spirit and perseverance. His transition into the Navy served as a pivotal moment, providing structure, direction, and a sense of purpose. However, it was not without its own set of challenges, including near-death experiences and witnessing the harsh realities of service life, which contributed to his understanding of trauma and its impacts. DaJuan's post-Navy life and his battle with PTS and alcoholism reveals the often unseen struggles that veterans face upon returning to civilian life. Yet, it's his remarkable transformation into a Firefighter, EMT, fitness trainer, and eventually, an IFBB professional bodybuilder, that truly encapsulates the essence of this episode. DaJuan's journey showcases the incredible potential for transformation and growth that lies within all of us. This episode is not just a story about overcoming adversity; it's a powerful narrative that highlights the importance of mental health, the value of physical fitness, and the indomitable spirit of those who have served. DaJuan Freeman's journey from trauma to triumph is a compelling reminder of the strength and resilience inherent in the veteran and first responder communities. On Episode 151 of the Ballislife In The Paint Show, hosts Ronnie Flores, Ani Umana, Chelsea Hopkins and Horace Neysmith go hard on the 2023 McDonald's All-American Game and the announcement of the 24 players selected to play in this year's game. The big news from the standpoint of reaction to the roster is the selection of Bronny James of Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) to the West team. Bronny, of course, is the son of Lakers' superstar LeBron James. Was Bronny deserving? Was it borderline and therefore justifiable to select him? Each member of the ITP breaks it down coming from a different point of view. Bronny and LeBron are the ninth father-son combo selected for the game since its inception and are joined by D.J. Wagner of FAB 50 No. 10 Camden (N.J.), who is actually part of the first father-son-grandson combo to play in the game. Ron breaks down the history with grandfather Milt (1981) and father Dajuan (2001) also playing in the game, while Horace gives his insight of playing against many of the 1981 selections and what the feel of the game was like in its early years. Ani give his take on how the state of Texas has grown from an afterthought in the early years to a McDonald's All-American hotbed in recent time and why that is from a recruiting standpoint. Ron and Ani break down the evolution of the game, while Chelsea give her thoughts on why top freshman classes are not cutting it in terms of winning the NCAA title and why the national all-star games will have a tough time getting back to the attendance hey dey it enjoyed in the 1990s and 2000s. The ITP Crew goes in on the rosters, talking first reactions, trends, snubs, and much more! Chelsea also gives a quick W update as it relates to the retirement of Maya Moore, security concerns surrounding Brittney Griner. The ITP crew offers some terrific insight on a variety of topics related to the 2023 McDonald's All-American Game, so make sure to tune in to Episode 151 from start to finish! I needed to be around other actors with like-minded energy and goals. And Craig has been nothing but a safe haven for me and my artist. DaJuan Summers was inches away from a long career in the NBA but ultimately decided to move abroad and play overseas for the betterment of his family. While regretful at times, Summers now has an opportunity to capitalize playing stateside. Summers, who was the seventh pick in the 2022 BIG3 Draft, emerged in Week 2 dropping 18 points and 7 rebounds in Tri-State's blowout win. This despite going against Michael Beasley and 3's Company. Now at 1-1 they have another tall test ahead of them. We get into his decision to play abroad, Justin Dentmon's draft night secret, the keys to Tri-State beating Killer 3's and his impression of the BIG3 through two weeks. Plus, we touch on Elijah Stewart's Summer League opportunity and the latest league transactions. Follow: Twitter - https://twitter.com/4thManPod IG - https://www.instagram.com/4thmanpod/ ... Former Georgetown Hoyas and Detroit Pistons star DaJuan Summers taps in!
You'll recognize DaJuan Johnson from hits like Narcos, Grey's Anatomy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and SEVEN seasons of Bosch (just to name a few!), I couldn't think of anyone better to have a conversation all about confidence and thinking bigger! DaJuan is a coach who helps actors shift their mindset to find clarity, so they can push through uncertainty and take focused action to reach their dreams. In today's episode, Dajuan and I discuss what thinking bigger actually means and the actionable ways to develop a no-fail mindset. We discuss why it is crucial to step into this bigger mindset so you can show up and do your best work as an actor (or any type of creative!). DaJuan exposes the lie of the billing hierarchy and how it prevents us from feeling like we're not enough as artists. He breaks down the tough, internal desperation actors have that keeps us small and stops us from our full artistic capabilities. At times, a creative career can feel like you're on the outside looking in with very little validation – enter DaJuan who provides tons of reassurance while he exposes the uncomfortable truth of how your mindset gets in your way (or makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE!). Despite DaJuan's decorated credentials, he reminds all actors that he isn't extraordinary. At the end of the day, the only thing he has that you might not have is just more tools in his toolbox. This episode is your chance to learn, grow, and gain the mindset and confidence you need to focus on what's in your control and let go of the things that aren't. Special Edition Episodes of DEI Training I wanted to tackle DEI -- Diversity Equity and Inclusion -- training from its roots. I decided to start with me and like any other normal person share it on a podcast. I can't show up effectively, the way I want to as a leader, mentor, coach, friend, Think Bigger Tribe member without also doing my work. So here we are. In these 5 episodes, you will see ME, DaJuan Johnson, become the STUDENT as I learn about my roots and how they affect my experience as a person of color. I sat down with Dr. Maisha Beasley, a DEI expert, and dove in head first. What you're about to hear is me at my core...vulnerable, raw, and here for it all. I give you permission to bounce around and trust that you will get exactly what you need where ever you start. Want to skip right to the end and just get the DEI traditional definitions, cool. Want to hear a story about code switching, cool too. Do you through this process and constantly check in with yourself. Through the podcast I want you to imagine a TREE. Roots, Trunk and the Leaves...this is how we will tell the beginning of my DEI story. I say beginning, because I am clear that there is more work to be done. Episode 1 - We talk about my ROOTS. How growing up in a home where all I wanted to do was get away from the violence, but always had to be home before the streetlights came on, subconsciously shaped my earlier DEI experience. A time where I didn't fully see color and thought of my friends -- white, latinn, mixed -- as my siblings. A time that changed quickly... Episode 2A + 2B: We get into the "TRUNK" of my experience of DEI and talk about how I learned to "CODE SWITCH" to survive. To get ahead. To be successful. How being bused into a new high school that needed to fill a “black quota” changed my life. How my family made it clear, there were certain people -- in my family -- I was not supposed to be like. Episode 3A + 3B: We finish it off with the "LEAVES" of the tree and how I gave myself the "golden ticket" when I stopped trying to be someone else and stepped into DaJuan. Here is where we tie in all of the traditional DEI terms and apply them to my story as a whole. My highest intention here was to learn. And through sharing MY STORY, I hope you see YOUR STORY in it too. I hope that you see that DEI is truly about relationships at its core. I'm sure I stepped in poop on this podcast a couple of times, but what I know for sure is sometimes you have to step in poop to become the leader you are meant to be. My hope is it becomes less and less poop because...I'm here to lead. I cannot believe I am saying these words… DaJuan Johnson (yes, DaJuan Johnson from BOSCH, Greys Anatomy, and much more) stopped by the podcast today! I have been a huge admirer of DaJuan and his work not only as a successful actor but as a heart centered and incredible Life Coach and teacher. If you are new to DaJuan Johnson, here's a little bit about him: DaJuan Johnson is a working actor who gets it. Currently working on Amazon's longest running drama, BOSCH. Which he's been on since the pilot episode! The show is getting ready to start it's 7th and final season! He's also recurred on Grey's Anatomy where ABC put him up for a PrimteTime Emmy for his dynamic recurring performance. He's also recurred and starred on numerous other popular TV shows as well as being the lead in the digital series that got nominated for a Daytime Emmy. DaJuan is also a certified life coach and his mission is to help actors uplevel their career with confidence by providing them with tangible, grounded mindset strategies from real life, current, experience as a veteran working actor. #Trainwithcoachesthatwork I could have seriously talked to DaJuan for hours, but since this is a podcast and not a telethon, we kept it at a jam packed hour for you all. Here are just some of the major takeaways from this meaty episode: Remember to always send the elevator back down Find someone to coach you at the level of your goals Process critical feedback through your business hat, not your self worth/high stakes emotional hat. You are not responsible for your 1st thought, thats your primal instinct. But you are responsible for your 2nd, 3rd and so on. Surround yourself with people who want you to raise your standards! Motivation, positivity, etc., all those states wear off everyday unless you condition them everyday. Name and put a visual to your inner critic. Bruce made a very special appearance in this episode. And last but not least- You cannot be a secret and be a success Follow DaJuan: Actor: Instagram, Twitter, Website Coach: Instagram, Podcast, Facebook group --> Go say hi! ----more---- Wanting to learn more about 1:1 coaching? Today is a great day to revisit one of my favorite episodes with certified life coach and working actor, DaJuan Johnson. DaJuan Johnson is an actor recurring on BOSCH (Amazon), with credits including Grey’s Anatomy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Days of Our Lives, and General Hospital. Despite having an impressive resume to his name, he still felt he was missing something. So he started Think Bigger Coaching, where he helps actors “STOP spinning and start focusing their dreams, setting some attainable goals and getting to that Oscar speech they've practiced so many times in the mirror!” He also runs a free facebook group, the Think Bigger Tribe, where he’s constantly giving away free information to actors!
