Today, Kevin and I meet with the TheTERP RAPTOR team at the University of Maryland who are  leading an ambitious mission. What started as a class project has rapidly grown into a multi-institutional collaboration, bringing together researchers from UMD, the Naval Research Laboratory, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks to design and launch a 12U CubeSat for ahigh-speed flyby of the asteroid Apophis.  Their goal? To image Apophis, analyze its surface, and send ground-breaking data back to Earth. Guided by aerospace engineering professor Brent Barbee, the UMD team includes Adrienne, Kruti, Chinthan, Sean, Rahul, Ryan, and Cameron, a diverse group of Masters and PHD students. Their expertise spans orbital determination, machine learning, radio communications, and structures and mechanical modeling, and their prior experience includes work at NASA, Naval ResearchLaboratory, the FDA, ExoAnalytic Solutions, and UMD's Balloon Payload Program.  We are excited to learn more about how their student-led initiative evolved into a full-scalespace mission and we know you will be just as  inspired as we are by this amazing team.

With "it" girls including Sabrina Carpenter recently sporting Depop finds to major events, the peer-to-peer resale e-tailer is decidedly having a moment — but its growth hasn't been sudden. According to the 13-year-old company, which was acquired by Etsy in 2021, its registered user base grew 17% to $35 million in 2023. The year prior, Kruti Patel Goyal joined the company as CEO, moving over from its parent company. "I spent over 11 years of my career at Etsy. I started in 2011 when the company was much smaller and private. And over the years, I worked my way around and through the business. … I got to learn the marketplace inside and out," Patel Goyal said on the Glossy Podcast. "About a year and a half after the acquisition, I was asked to come over and run Depop after the former CEO decided to step down. Looking back, it makes sense why my background was such a good fit for Depop." Along with Patel Goyal's expertise, Depop has recently benefited from Gen Z's conscientious shopping habits.  “This current young generation cares more than any generation before them about the impact of their choices on the world around them,” Patel Goyal said. “That's a big factor in what's driving resale.”  Also on the podcast, Patel Goyal discussed Depop's valuable Gen-Z shopper base and strong community, and its plan to continue to stand out as resale booms.

To all the women out there, how hot are you feeling?   And we don’t mean looks; we’re talking menopause.   To all the men out there, take notes, this applies to you too.   The stigma surrounding menopause prevents many women from feeling comfortable discussing the natural aging processes of the female body. It's important to create an open dialogue for women to share their experiences and have a support system through this transition, so they are not alone.   Who better to discuss this with than the creators of “Getting Hotter”, Falguni and Kruti. They discuss their personal experiences with perimenopause, and the lack of dialogue they experienced even within their friendship. This lack of dialogue became the catalyst for creating “Getting Hotter”. The idea behind “Getting Hotter” was to create a space where women could gather and feel comfortable discussing this new transition in their life. Their arsenal of tools help women find support through a community undergoing these same changes. It also is a platform to create open dialogues with others in their life such as their partners. Creating a compassionate and supportive environment that empowers women to embrace the transition is only a part of the successes of “Getting Hotter”. Tune in for an important conversation meant for every gender so you can learn a few ways on how to support those important women in your life. “You can just let them know you're getting hotter” -Falguni and Kruti (Getting Hotter)    Falguni is a writer, director & media executive for Vice TV. A certified mindfulness coach who is an enthusiastic albeit sometimes impatient mother of an eight-year-old girl and a ten-year-old boy.   Kruti is an architect, designer, filmmaker and an all-around entrepreneurial mother of seven-year-old twins and their nine year old sister.   Both went through perimenopause, and although they are best friends, they didn't talk about it even though they were on the journey at the same time.  Thus, they co-founded getting Hotter.    Let's reinforce the message that women are only "Getting Hotter"!   Topics we discuss: Menopause journey You start to heat up and feel more irritable. Burning sensation running up to your head. You experience anger without realizing it. Depth breaths are used as a tool to become more aware. What is menopause? Technically the sensation of menstruation, without the cycle. After 12 months of the onset of symptoms you have no period anymore. Perimenopause: giant gray area that affects daily life. Does not only affect women, it affects their partners too. Most women are unaware there going through it. Cultural differences Some religions won’t let you go to the temple on your period, because your “unclean”. In India women were frowned upon when on their period. Considered it “dirty.” Menopause still told less than now, stigma. So much of this social stigma around the uncleanliness is handed down from cultures. Open conversations around Menopause: bringing it into the vernacular. How to have the conversation with men in your life. This affects partners and family members not only the woman. How to make the conversation normal. Understanding that women are programmed to think we're losing something when going through menopause. “Getting Hotter” as a means for menopause resources. Natural medicine. Provides a toolbox for dealing with Menopause. We've reached a small milestone in our team: 100 episodes of the FiLiA podcast. To celebrate this very special episode, I spoke with a few of the amazing women who bring life and magic to FiLiA - Lisa-Marie, Julian, Sally, Kruti and Raquel. Their reflections, insights and discussion can be heard here, covering the three charitable aims of FiLiA: building sisterhood and solidarity, amplifying the voices of women and defending women's human rights. The team discuss highlights and challenges of the journey this brilliant feminist charity has been on so far, the importance of organising an annual gathering for women to speak together and where FiLiA plans to go. Women joined the discussion from the Welsh Hills, London, Portsmouth and the Dominican Republic (so we hope listeners will forgive us if the audio isn't perfect) to share FiLiA memories, feminist insights, favourite quotes, and ways to support our work (for example by signing up to the Friends of FiLiA scheme or donating a solidarity ticket to enable more women to come to the conference).I've had the honour of being podcast coordinator for a little while (from when we had just over a dozen podcasts until now). Alice, one of our interviewers, suggested that I write something for the occasion as well. I don't know if she realised that I could easily fill several pages of thoughts about the beauty of hearing women's voices and audio podcasting as a uniquely useful medium for feminist discussions (for many reasons, e.g. no need to worry about visual appearances & busy women can listen while they're doing other things). Brevity has never been my strong suit, sorry, but I shall share some reflections here.My first podcast recording session was with Sheila Jeffreys and Heather Brunskell-Evans. I was stressed, trying to work out how to capture this online discussion and troubleshoot our connectivity issues. What I'll remember is sitting in my room once recording was underway, pinching myself that these two amazing feminists were speaking to each other and I was allowed to listen to their conversation and share it with others. But also wondering, “how the hell did I get the privilege of being involved in this?”I volunteered as podcast coordinator because two other women I respect, who share my first name, kindly nudged me toward the opportunity on the FiLiA website. I'd applied for the role rather sheepishly, with little relevant experience, but was greeted with warmth, met a wonderful team of hard-working women and am still on a crash-course in “proper” feminism I shall treasure for life. I've had a more valuable education in creating and listening to these podcasts than any university course in “Gender Studies” could hope to offer.I learned that from the start, FiLiA's ethos for these podcasts is that women themselves will have as much control over their own participation and words as possible - to try to create a woman-centred space. Our podcasts are perhaps slightly peculiar in that they don't follow a set format, really. We have no time-limits or fixed type of discussion. Our production process embraces the do-it-yourself style, which means we'll vary in audio quality, but the benefit of this approach is that simple, free audio recording and editing processes are an equaliser – so in theory any woman with an internet connection could get involved with podcasting if she wanted to. We all learn together, from each other. Our guests are phenomenal women, from all over the world, involved in all sorts of work & areas of expertise, a mix of maybe more familiar and newer feminist voices. We have a roster of talented volunteer interviewers and editors, who all have their own ways of approaching the podcasts, working together. I have far
