In this week's “we told you so” edition, we kick things off with the latest AI faceplant—go ahead, Google “Is it 2025?” and try not to spit coffee on your keyboard. Meanwhile, over at Meta, Zuckerberg's brilliant idea to loosen content moderation has, shocker, led to more harassment and violent content. Elsewhere in tech dystopia: Texas is trying to ground all minors off social media, Germany wants to slap a 10% tax on Silicon Valley, and Anthropic is handing out free search powers and a board seat to Netflix's Reed Hastings. Because nothing says “trusted AI governance” like a guy who greenlit Love Is Blind. But wait, crypto bros are having their own John Wick arc: a luxury townhouse, a missing wallet, and possibly an NYPD detective tangled in a real-life “crypto millionaire torture” flick. As if that isn't enough, Trump Media is fundraising to buy $2.5B in Bitcoin—and DJT stock promptly nosedived. Also feuding this week: Marjorie Taylor Greene vs. Grok, because nothing screams Christian values like rageposting at Elon's AI. And speaking of Elon, he's now in bed with Telegram to the tune of $300 million, which we're sure won't be a disinformation factory.MEDIA CANDY is stacked: from the Murderbot diaries to a My Dinner with Andre rewatch, and yes, the Wheel of Time got axed after 3 seasons. Apps? Opera Neon is a UI fever dream, Starling Home Hub adds more smarts to your house, and WhatsApp finally arrives on iPad—welcome to 2016. In THE DARK SIDE, Dave Bittner brings the latest digital dirt, including the CIA's bonkers Star Wars fan site op. And if you're hitting the library, grab The AI Con or something more romantic—like Love, Sex and the Alien Apocalypse. Just be careful if you read that on public transit.Sponsors:DeleteMe - Head over to JoinDeleteMe.com/GOG and use the code "GOG" for 20% off.Private Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today. "Andor," the latest Star Wars miniseries, is spin off of the film "Rogue One," which is a prequel to the original Stat Wars trilogy. It's considered grittier, grungier, and more political than any its predecessors. In this latest G&R Arts and Culture episode, Scott talks with comrade and organizer Matt Leonard about the politics and cultural relevance of Andor in the age of Trump. Green and Red's Arts and Culture series looks at film, television, music, book and other art that raises political consciousness. After three decades and seven previous cinematic outings, super agent Ethan Hunt clocks in for, what is said be, his final mission. This week the Joes pass on Lilo and Stitch and instead check out Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. Does this newest entry in the venerable action thriller franchise break out of the time tested mold of, a world threatening McGuffin, death-defying stunts, and lots of Tom Cruise running? SPOILER. No, not so much. Does it do an exceptional job of staying in its lane, even while raising the stakes, and looking amazingly good doing it? Again SPOILER, yes, yes it does. While no one who has ever seen a Mission Impossible film will be surprised by what they see, they won't be disappointed either. There's also the usual Random Topics, including some superfluous, Star Wars themed, dead horse beating, and a round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!
We are playing a game by creating mini-marathons of movies featuring Star Wars actors in their non-Star Wars roles. With a lack of Star Wars news as of the time of the recording, we decide to try something new. Many Star Wars actors are known for roles outside of their performances in Star Wars. Other actors famous for their roles in Star Wars don't have as extensive a career. In this game, we are challenging ourselves to create mini-movie marathons by pulling three actors' names out of the proverbial hat and then picking one other movie each of those actors have appeared in. Some of the picks (we're looking at you Harrison Ford) resulted in easy choices. Other picks (hello, Joel Edgerton) are a bit more challenging. So, what do you think of our picks? Would you have picked different movies? Download or stream this episode and then let us know what you would have done by reaching out at one of our social media contacts listed below. Thanks for joining us for another episode! Subscribe to Podcast Stardust for all your Star Wars news, reviews, and discussion wherever you get your podcasts. GUYS!!!! DEBBIE SOLARIS IS HERE!!! Wow, I am deeply honored to have spent this time with the amazing Debbie Solaris. Her galactic knowledge and psychic gifts astound me, and I had a blast with her on this episode. Debbie is a renowned ET contactee and galactic historian. In this stellar (get it?) episode, she shares her fantastic journey from a traditional upbringing in a military family to becoming awakened to her star lineage through an extraterrestrial contact experience with the Arcturians. Our conversation dives into topics like the challenges faced by star seeds, galactic history, and future contact with extraterrestrial beings. Debbie also discusses her work with the Akashic records, explaining the difference between earth and galactic records, and how she helps clients connect with their cosmic origins. SEASON 2 - EPISODE 143 - Phil Alden Robinson - Writer / Director In this episode of the Team Deakins Podcast, we speak with writer and director Phil Alden Robinson (THE GOOD FIGHT, THE SUM OF ALL FEARS, FIELD OF DREAMS) about many of his films. Phil was initially interested in politics and journalism, but he eventually made his way to Los Angeles and found his way into a writer's room based on the strength of a spec script. Phil soon found two of his feature scripts in production, and he reflects on the impact of being treated as badly as possible and as well as possible simultaneously. Later, Phil breaks down how FIELD OF DREAMS came together as a project, and we learn how he overcame an overwhelming sense of stress through the support of his cast and key crew members, including cinematographer John Lindley (Season 1, Episode 34) and production designer Dennis Gassner (Season 1, Episode 131). In addition to his work in features, Phil also directed documentaries for Nightline in a number of war zones, and we discuss the value of living life and taking time off from making movies. We also discuss the ubiquitousness of VFX in cinema today, and Phil shares what he feels to be the real lesson to take away from a film like the original STAR WARS. - Recommended Viewing: FIELD OF DREAMS, THE SUM OF ALL FEARS - This episode is sponsored by Aputure & Profoto

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes.Last week Disney pushed Avengers: Doomsday from its May 1, 2026 release to December 18, 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars from May 7, 2027 to December 18, 2027. The studio also removed several unannounced Marvel titles from its release calendar: a February 13, 2026 dated release has been removed entirely while November 2026 and 2027 releases have been rebranded from untitled Marvel films, to untitled Disney films.Memorial Day weekend's $326.7 million haul at the domestic box office was enough to earn it the title of the highest grossing Memorial Day weekend ever, with newcomer, Disney's live action Lilo & Stitch remake leading the way with $183 million, overtaking Top Gun: Maverick's $160 million weekend from 2022. Speaking of Tom Cruise, he was no slouch either, with the Mission: Impossible franchise's latest and supposed final installment, The Final Reckoning, earning a franchise high of $77.5 million. While appearing on a recent episode of The Box Office Podcast, Ryan Reynolds revealed he pitched an R-rated Star Wars film to Disney, saying, “I pitched to Disney, I said, ‘Why don't we do an R-rated “Star Wars” property? It doesn't have to be overt, A+ characters. There's a wide range of characters you could use,'” he said. “And I don't mean R-rated to be vulgar. R-rated as a Trojan horse for emotion. I always wonder why studios don't want to just gamble on something like that.” The Deadpool actor clarified the film would not be for him to star in, but contribute behind the scenes by writing and producing. Notably absent from the conversation is Disney's reception to the pitch. After an extensive search auditioning more than 30,000 actors, HBO's Harry Potter series has finally found its Harry, Hermoine and Ron, as Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been cast in the respective roles. Much like their predecessors from the films, our three leads are relative newcomers, with McLaughlin appearing alongside Hagrid-actor Nick Frost in the upcoming Sky comedy, Grow, and Stanton having starred as Matilda in Matilda The Musical on West End from 2023 to 2024, while this will be Stout's first significant role.Kieran Culkin has been cast as Caesar Flickerman in Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. The reboot of medical comedy Scrubs from Bill Lawrence and ABC currently in development has officially cast Zach Braff who will return to the series to reprise the role of JD, a character he played for 9 seasons.A24 confirmed Alex Garland will write and direct a live-action Elden Ring film with Bandai Namco Entertainment. The acclaimed game won the 2022 Game of the Year Award and has sold over 30 million copies. The Wheel of Time has been canceled after three seasons at Amazon‘s Prime Video. The series, from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios and based on Robert Jordan's best-selling series of fantasy novels, aired its third-season finale on April 17.James Gunn confirmed DC Studios will attend Comic-Con this year(July 24-27) with a panel focusing on Peacemaker season 2. The new season will feature another dance sequence in its opening credits, like season 1.Marvel and DC will be collaborating on a crossover comic between characters for the first time in two decades. A series of one shot comics will be released in September of this year featuring a crossover between Deadpool and Batman, with more character crossovers planned for next year.

Send us a textWhat can a Star Wars show teach us about organizing, resistance, and healing? In this episode of the Amplify RJ Podcast, I sit down with strategist, therapist, and writer Gabes Torres to talk about Andor—yes, that Star Wars show—and what it reveals about real-life revolution. We dive into how Andor de-romanticizes rebellion and reflects the complex realities of movement work: the banality of evil, conflict in organizing, disposability culture, and the painful but necessary tension between rest and resistance. Gabes shares insights from their piece on the show, their organizing and healing work in the Global South, and the ways marine mammals and myth can inform our strategy.Whether or not you've seen the show, this conversation is about so much more than the galaxy far, far away—it's about our world and how we build toward collective liberation with nuance, integrity, and care.0:00 – Intro: What is Andor + Character Breakdown 5:20 – Meet Gabes Torres: Healer, Strategist, Rebel 9:42 – How Andor De-Romanticizes Revolution 14:20 – Disney, Propaganda & Revolutionary Storytelling 19:35 – The Banality of Evil in a Boardroom 25:00 – Real-World Parallels: Propaganda, Gaza, Gorman & Genocide 26:45 – Parenting, Powerlessness & Purpose 29:21 – Consciousness Building as Resistance 32:20 – Gabes on Luthen, Clea & Strategy in Movement 36:42 – Bix, Trauma & Knowing When to Step Back 40:28 – Organizing Through Burnout & Wavering Commitment 44:30 – Humananizing vs. Ruthless Sacrifice47:40 – Disposability Culture in Movements 49:10 – Disagreeing Is Not a Failure of Solidarity 52:00 – Addressing Conflict & Building in Organizing 56:20 – Is there Shared Vision for Our Resistance? 1:00:23 – Activist Ecosystems, Movement Mentorship from Marine Mammals 1:07:30 – Upside Down Triangle: Rethinking Power 1:08:50 – Support Gabes & Psychosocial Care for Organizers Connect with Gabes:https://gabestorres.com/https://www.instagram.com/gabestorres/Read her article: https://gabestorres.substack.com/p/andorSupport mental health care for organizers in the Global South https://gabestorres.com/support/Rep Amplify RJ Merch Connect with us on:Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Threads, YouTube, and TikTok!SUPPORT by sharing this podcast and leaving a rating or review
PERRIN FERTHA and VEL SARTHA, two characters with tragic relationships. One built on the cultural tradition of an arranged marriage, the other built on rebellion and love. Perrin and Mon. Vel and Cinta. Two relationships broken, by the Rebellion in completely different ways.Perrin is a hedonist, whose characterization in Season 1 made him seem antagonistic and loveless towards Mon. During Season 2 that perception has shifted to something more nuanced, and thanks to revelations of a deleted scene, our impression of Perrin might be more complicated.Vel is a warrior, like Cinta. Both are committed to the cause and torn apart by it. A relationship strongly implied in Season 1 was finally sealed with a kiss in Season 2 with Lucasfilm finally deciding to "say gay". As soon as we had this lovers return, Cinta was taken from us by a stray blaster bolt from a foolish boy.Today we take a deep dive into these two characters and their arcs during Andor S2. Join us as we try to hear the music beneath the songs of Perrin and Vel and their tragic loves.• • •Triad of the Force is a channel which was featured on the Podcast Stage at Star Wars Celebration 2022 and 2023, featuring Nani and Gus, lifelong Puerto Rican friends who after years of discussing the media they love, came together and created their show. Young Dave, armed with a love for Star Wars and a soft spot for everyone's favourite scruffy-looking nerf herder, thought he was in for another dose of Han Solo heroics when switching on Blade runner. What he got instead was something a little moodier, a lot rainier, and less exciting than Songs of Praise. The production of Blade Runner (1982) was as tumultuous and moody as the rain-soaked, neon-lit world it depicted. Directed by Ridley Scott, fresh off the success of Alien, the film was envisioned as a noir-infused sci-fi adaptation of Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. The shoot was plagued by creative clashes between Scott and the American crew, who bristled at his demanding style, and constant interference from producers worried about the film's slow pace and philosophical ambiguity. Principal photography was grueling, with night shoots, complex visual effects, and an increasingly strained atmosphere on set. Lead actor Harrison Ford reportedly had a difficult working relationship with Scott, and the overall mood was so tense it was dubbed “Blood Runner” by some of the crew.Post-production proved just as chaotic. The studio, concerned that the film was too cerebral and obscure, insisted on adding a noir-style voiceover narration and a more upbeat ending—changes that Scott strongly opposed. Multiple versions of the film were created to satisfy different markets and test audiences, adding to the confusion. Upon release, Blade Runner received mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office, overshadowed by more accessible summer hits. Yet over time, the film's groundbreaking visual design, atmospheric world-building, and deep philosophical themes helped it gain a devoted following, eventually being recognized as a cornerstone of science fiction cinema. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, so become a supporter.www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesbackTrailer Guy Plot SummaryIn a future where it always rains and everything is soaked in neon, one man must hunt what isn't supposed to be hunted. Harrison Ford is Rick Deckard — a retired blade runner pulled back in for one last job. His mission? Track down and "retire" a group of rogue replicants who aren't going quietly into the night. But as the line between man and machine blurs, the hunter begins to question everything. Get ready for a showdown where the future looks grim, the androids look angry, and the noodles are always hot. Patrick Madrid and Producer Cyrus are on the front lines defending your digital discernment! There’s a 36-minute AI-generated video on YouTube that’s being passed around as a “historic” speech by Pope Leo XIV. It's not actually from him. The video kicks off with a flowery intro supposedly addressing President Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso. The Vatican News has already squashed it, putting out an alert saying the speech was 100% AI fakery, complete with lip-syncing tech that makes it look like the Pope is speaking... but he’s not. Patrick compared today’s AI technology to seeing Star Wars in 1977: it blew his mind then, but looking back... just models and strings. Now, AI has that same wow-factor... but don’t be fooled. The tech is crazy good, and people are falling for it left and right. Cyrus Chimes In: “How Do We Even Know What’s Real Anymore?” Cyrus is feeling it too: the confusion, the uncertainty. Every day the tech gets better, and even people like them (who live and breathe this stuff) have to double-check what they’re seeing. So, what’s the fix? Your Catholic Digital Survival Kit: Patrick & Cyrus laid out some super practical tips: Trust Only Verified Sources: Vatican News, the official Vatican Press Office, etc. Not random YouTubers. Clean Your Feed: Block accounts that post fake news or manipulate the truth. If someone lies to you online... buh-bye. Stay Suspicious (in a Holy Way): In today’s world, don’t believe it just because it looks real. Ask questions. Check sources. Be holy and savvy. Final Thought: It’s about truth, trust, and staying grounded in Christ when the world gets digitally chaotic. Patrick and Cyrus are calling Catholics to discernment, vigilance, and maybe a little bit of digital housecleaning.

When a zombie filmmaker makes you laugh so hard you forget you're talking about death and destruction, you know you're in for something special. On today's episode, we welcome Marc V. Price, a fiercely independent British filmmaker whose claim to fame is making a cult zombie feature called Colin for just £45. That alone should make you lean in. But that's just the prologue. This is a man whose journey into the heart of DIY cinema is paved not with glamour, but with grit, late-night edits, and an undying love for storytelling that's as infectiously entertaining as the virus in his debut film.Marc V. Price is a visionary guerrilla filmmaker who turns limited budgets into limitless creativity. In this profound conversation, we dive deep into the chaos, comedy, and consciousness of being an indie director who not only survived the industry's many booby traps, but did so while telling stories worth hearing. His reflections on Colin—a film made while overdrafted and eating whatever he could scrape up—are as humble as they are inspiring. What started as an experiment in shoestring storytelling exploded into a global festival darling, not because it was flashy, but because it was honest. And that's where Marc's strength lies—he doesn't pander, he creates. We drift into an epic conversation on the Star Wars universe. This isn't fanboy babble; it's an existential breakdown of myth, legacy, and the strange, often contradictory reactions that fandom provokes. Marc speaks with wit and clarity about his take on The Last Jedi, “I have a character, I have no idea where Kylo Ren is going in the next film, so I'm really interested now.” There's no arrogance in his opinion, just a deep appreciation for complexity and imperfection, a theme that winds its way through all his art.But Marc isn't just waxing poetic about galaxies far, far away. He shares the alchemy behind his newer projects—Nightshooters and A Fistful of Lead. These aren't just action flicks; they're love letters to the film crews behind the scenes. Imagine a group of low-budget filmmakers caught in a building rigged for demolition while gangsters try to kill them—forced to use their behind-the-camera skills to survive. This isn't satire, it's celebration. It's also the sort of beautiful madness only someone like Marc could conjure. What stands out most is Marc's radical respect for collaboration. He believes the true magic of filmmaking lies in giving young talent real responsibility. On his sets, interns aren't coffee runners—they're script supervisors and first ACs.This communal spirit translates into films that are textured, layered, and brimming with the energy of people who actually care. He's not just making movies; he's building a village.Even in setbacks—like getting fired from a film he poured his soul into—Marc finds the lesson, finds the momentum. Instead of sulking, he pivots. He doubles down. He makes another movie. And another. By the end of the month, he'll have two features under his belt. He's not chasing Hollywood; he's chasing the muse, armed with a battered camera, a mischievous grin, and a hell of a lot of heart. And perhaps most beautifully, Marc wears his humanity like armor. He laughs at himself, calls out his own missteps, and embraces the contradictions of the creative life. From living broke with roommates in London, to pitching ridiculous Star Wars spin-offs, to dreaming of snow-covered Westerns in the UK, he embodies what it means to stay playful—even when things get dark.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/indie-film-hustle-a-filmmaking-podcast--2664729/support.
Happy Tuesday! I love introducing you to my incredibly talented Mandalorian family and this week I am so excited to share my conversation with my friend Brendan Wayne. Along with Lateef Crowder and Pedro Pascal, Brendan is responsible for playing the Mandalorian. We talk about what it's like to be in the suit and how it feels to build a character collaboratively. Brendan is the grandson of John Wayne and you can see that swagger in the way that Mando walks. He is also a fantastic actor in his own right, having appeared in Ahsoka as Lieutenant Lander, as well as in Sons of Anarchy and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. We also talk about how Brendan was shaped by his near-death experience at the beginning of filming Season Two. Brendan is an amazing dad and such an important part of my Mando experience— I can't wait for you to get to know him better! Be sure to stick around for the Hindsight, where my producer Jeph and I talk about the interview and answer your questions from the Mailsack! A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of hosting a panel at UTA for a screening of ANDOR - the Star Wars spinoff series from creator Tony Gilroy. It was there that I met today's guest, executive producer, Sanne Wohlenberg. Check that out here: https://youtu.be/mGe1Ec3nhv8 Sanne is a German-born television producer working primarily in the United Kingdom. After working on multiple episodes of the critically acclaimed series BLACK MIRROR, she went on to win an Emmy Award in 2019 for Outstanding Limited Series as the producer of CHERNOBYL, followed by a Producers Guild of America nomination for The David L. Wolper Award for Outstanding Producer of a Limited Series the following year. In 2022, Sanna joined ANDOR as a non-writing EP and lucky for us, helped breathe fresh new life into the franchise. During our conversation, Sanne and I discussed pivoting from law to entertainment, choosing talent over credits, and why you don't have to be a STAR WARS fanatic to fall into the target audience for ANDOR.

ANDOR is over, but the conversation about this show's impact and resonance has just begun. Tricia Barr and Sarah Woloski continue our conversation from last month, sharing our thoughts on this incredible show. Our main discussion considers Tony Gilroy's comments from the final ANDOR: Declassified Episode, in which he states “The five women at the end of the show are what the show is about. It's the victory, it's the pain, it's the life that these five women had that gives the show it's dramatic punch at the end.” Who are these women and how are they impactful in the show? Wake up babe, new Saw Gerrera backstory just dropped. This week, we're asking what makes a Rebel cell the “real deal.” Is it Saw Gerrera's Cave Angels, who have all the fire—but lack direction? Is it the Ghorman Front, who want the Empire gone, but haven't looked past their front doorstep? And do Luthen, Kleya, and Cassian count, when they keep raising the barrier to entry to the Rebellion? We're asking all this, and whether Dedra cares if Syril lives or dies, in our recap of “I Have Friends Everywhere” (Andor S2, E5).New to Growing Up Skywalker? Ethan Sacks is a veteran comics writer, having created stories for Marvel, DC, and numerous Star Wars comics. In the comic A Haunted Girl, Ethan enlisted his daughter Naomi as co-writer to tell a story much more personal than anything involving Star Wars or the Avengers. A Haunted Girl tells the story of Cleo, a character inspired by Naomi's real life experiences in her teens dealing with depression, anxiety, and suicidality. She spent time in in-patient facilities and now, at 21, is doing better. Ethan and Naomi join us to talk comics, art, mental health, and family collaboration.Thank you to all our listeners who support the show as monthly members of Maximum Fun.Check out our I'm Glad You're Here and Depresh Mode merchandise at the brand new merch website MaxFunStore.com!Hey, remember, you're part of Depresh Mode and we want to hear what you want to hear about.
