Emmett Burnton and Ryan Donovan are two teachers both working in the social studies department at Boulder Creek High School in Deer Valley Unified School District. Not only colleagues, Emmett and Ryan have become mentors and coaches for each other. In today's episode, 3Ps in a Pod hosts Kathleen Paulsen, NBCT, and Marlys Weaver talk with these outstanding educators about how they mentor each other to be their professional best and continue to evolve their practice. Both teachers were also recognized for their teaching practice by the Arizona Educational Foundation. Emmett is the 2025 AEF Teacher of the Year, while Ryan is a 2025 AEF Ambassador for Excellence. Emmett and Ryan share with Kathleen and Marlys how they connected at Boulder Creek and how their strengths differ and compliment each other. They also reflect on other educators and moments that guided their teacher development. Both teachers explore in depth how they work to develop intentional and thoughtful lessons and assessments. They discuss their reflective practice and how it has positively impacted students.  Emmett calls us to think about mentorship in a way that creates deep relationships. These relationships help us really see our students and our peers in meaningful ways. Ryan shares about the value of protected time for collegial support and mentoring and the professional growth that results. He asks us to think about a mentor relationship as an opportunity for open dialogue and not about spending time focusing on deficits.   Continue your learning After listening to this episode, use the reflection guide to explore how you might further connect students to community and co-design learning opportunities unique to your location. https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speaking tune into this week's Astro News You Can Use podcast with Sheri Horn Hasan discussing this past week's astro-influenced events & what's yet to come, including the results of Mercury & Venus's stations direct!Astrologer Sheri Horn Hasan first looks back at how the April 4 first-quarter “crisis in action” waxing monthly lunar cardinal square of the Cancer Moon to the Aries Sun spurred people into action under the mantra of “Hands Off!” If you're a regular podcast listener, you'll have heard on this podcast before the statement that when enough people are affected personally, that's when they will take to the streets in large numbers. Well, that's what an estimated 5.2 million of them did—old, young, and in between—to tell the current U.S. Government “hands off” my medical care & research, my social security, my educational opportunities, my job, my civil rights, right to bodily autonomy, and so much more. Meanwhile Mercury's station direct in Pisces on April 7 seems to have proven what Erin Sullivan says in her book “Retrograde Planets, Traversing the Inner Landscape,” which is that it marks a time to “engage in observation and begin to pay attention.” Well, hard not to pay attention to U.S. President Trump's on-again off-again tariff threats against ALL U.S. trading partners—that resulted in putting the U.S. stock market--& by association global markets—into free fall this past week.Trump is a Gemini Sun/Uranus, which in its lowest manifestation is far more than “mercurial”--& as has been proven throughout his time in the presidency--to be erratic & mayhem-oriented. So, the whipsaw like back and forth on tariffs during both Mercury & Venus retrograde periods should really be no surprise. (This podcast highlights how the recent Mercury retrograde period triggered an important T-square in Trump's chart, so give it a listen!)What's changing now, however, is how undeniably obvious this has become as well as how potentially disruptive to both the U.S. & global trade & economy. With Mercury now direct, however, we've seen yet again additional changes in plans from the U.S. Government vis-à-vis tariffs. What's becoming more and more obvious, however, to even the average news absorber, is that Trump's assumption that his tariffs will succeed when they've been historically proven to weaken America's dollar, lead to losses for American companies, & create turmoil in the financial markets, is their complete unworkability. We approach now the April 12 Libra Full Moon, which occurs at 23'20' Libra in opposition to the Aries Sun conjunct wounded healer Chiron, while they all form a cardinal T-square to Mars in Cancer. Less than an hour later Venus stations direct in Pisces, telling us it's time to check in on the status of our partnerships. Can you spell "F-R-U-S-T-R-A-T-I-O-N?" As both Venus & Mercury begin to gather speed in their forward trajectory, we can see more clearly the results of how these astrological energies are currently playing out, at least here in America. This lunation highlights that we have here a “wounded king/ruler/autocrat wanna-be” facing opposition from the “people,” who desire to be more partnership-oriented with the rest of the world rather than less.In essence, this lunation—which has the Libra Moon reflecting back to the wounded Sun its own light—asks us to release any tendencies toward an “it's my way or the highway” type leadership that leads only to opposition, and to begin to negotiate & compromise. This becomes difficult, however, since what's wounded the Aries Sun is its lack of ability to back down in the face of having proactively made disastrous decisions. We look forward now to Mercury reentering Aries on April 16 or 17, depending on your time zone, and Mars reentering Leo April 17/18. Will Trump double down on his losing proposition to impose 145% tariffs on Chinese imports as China ups the ante by raising its tariff rates on U.S. goods to 125 percent on April 12? Especially when economists already know that this kind of trade war will result in higher prices for American consumers. “China's factories produce more than those in the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Britain combined, and many of the products imported to the United States come from China,” according to the New York Times. And that's not mentioning how the U.S. House of Representatives managed to pass a continuing budget resolution on April 10, as we waxed toward the Libra Full Moon, that will keep Trump's 2017 tax cuts for billionaires & cut trillions from government services. This passed 216 to 214, with zero democrats voting for it & two republicans jumping ship to side with the democrats. This podcast discusses the arduous task ahead for Congress to rectify the House & Senate versions of this bill, along with how it will result in growing opposition by an ever-enlarging group of those who'll be personally affected by such cuts. Especially those who don't believe their elected officials promises not to cut government funding for Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, federal jobs, disease research, veteran's benefits, and so much more…Tune in to https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speaking for all of this, plus more Astro News You Can Use, including how this Venus retrograde period has resulted in seriously impactful partnership re-alignments & weakened America's reputation as a financially stable & reliable partner. And, a deeper discussion of the greater meaning of this year's future Mercury retrogrades through the fire element & how we can use this energy to our advantage moving forward. See you later! In this thought-provoking conversation, executive coach and author Sean Delaney returns to discuss his latest book, "When Life Begins to Whisper: A Journey Beyond the Answers." Building on our conversation from last year, Sean delves deeper into the subtle internal signals that guide our authentic paths and how we can develop a healthier relationship with pain, uncertainty, and freedom.### Key Highlights:- **The Meaning Behind the Title**: Sean explains how "whispers" represent those subtle internal nudges we often ignore until life forces us to confront them, and why the most profound questions in life don't have definitive answers.- **Reframing Our Relationship with Pain**: "Pain doesn't come to break you, it comes to open you." Sean discusses how our greatest insights often emerge from our most painful experiences when we learn to use them rather than avoid them.- **Beyond the Search for Certainty**: Why certainty is "too small for a soul like yours" and how embracing uncertainty opens the door to greater possibilities.- **Recognizing and Rewriting Your Stories**: Sean shares practical approaches to identifying the invisible scripts that govern our lives and finding the courage to reshape them.- **Finding Freedom Through Letting Go**: Freedom isn't something we chase but something we allow by releasing internal barriers and constraints.- **The Connection to Investing**: Throughout the conversation, we explore parallels between personal growth and investment philosophy - from viewing empty portfolios as canvases of opportunity to developing the capacity to make clear decisions by stilling our "internal waters."- **Living Your Truth**: The importance of aligning with your authentic self rather than following someone else's script, as Sean explains: "The real prison is living a life that doesn't belong to you."Sean shares insights from his work with high achievers across various fields, including CEOs, professional athletes, and finance professionals, revealing common patterns and transformative practices that lead to more meaningful, purposeful lives. This episode offers both philosophical depth and practical guidance for anyone seeking to live more authentically and navigate life's challenges with greater wisdom and resilience.### About Sean DelaneySean Delaney is an executive coach and author who helps high achievers uncover deeper purpose and navigate the challenges of leadership, resilience, and self-mastery. Arcana Coelestia 7258. The doctrine of celestial good, which is that of love to the Lord, is the most ample and at the same time the most secret; but the doctrine of spiritual good, which is that of charity toward the neighbor, is also ample and secret, but less so than the doctrine of celestial good, which is the doctrine of love to the Lord. That the doctrine of charity is ample can be seen from the fact that charity is not the same with one as with another, and that one is not the neighbor the same as another. 7259. As the doctrine of charity was so ample, the ancients, with whom the doctrine of charity was the very doctrine of the church, distinguished charity toward the neighbor into many classes, which they also subdivided, and gave a name to each class, and taught how charity was to be exercised toward those who are in one class, and how toward those in another; and in this way they reduced the doctrine of charity into order, and also the exercises of charity, that these might fall distinctly under the view of the understanding. 7260. The names which they gave to those toward whom they were to exercise charity, were many; some they called blind, some lame, some maimed, some poor, also miserable and afflicted, some orphans, some widows; but in general they called those hungry to whom they were to give to eat, those thirsty to whom they were to give to drink, sojourners whom they were to gather in, naked whom they were to clothe, sick whom they were to visit, and in prison to whom they were to come (as to which see above, n. 4954-4959). Third Round posts are short audio clips taken from Round 3 comments offered in the online Logopraxis Life Group meetings. The aim is to keep the focus on understanding the Text in terms of its application to the inner life along with reinforcing any key LP principles that have been highlighted in the exchanges.

In this episode, Sara Jolena Wolcott and Lisa Colón DeLay have an engaging discussion about the inner landscape, drawing on wisdom from the Desert Fathers and Mothers of early Christianity. They explore how our internal worlds are deeply shaped by cultural influences, trauma, and the dynamics of community. Lisa shares insights from her book "The Wild Land Within," describing the "eight afflicting thoughts" identified by the Desert Father Evagrius as common challenges on the spiritual journey. The conversation also delves into the rich but often overlooked Coptic Orthodox Christian tradition and the importance of developing personal "rules of life" with spiritual practices.Throughout, Sara and Lisa emphasize the need to balance an awareness of our wounds and struggles with a remembrance of the blessings, beauty, and sources of safety within our inner landscapes. We are approaching winter solstice and the magical time of alchemical union of the Earth and the Sun. In this episode, I share some of the ancestral traditions around the world (just a small fraction!) and place them in a larger context of our body as a holographic landscape. What this means is that our bodies, too, respond to the solstice alchemy. In the Northern hemisphere, the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone, is at its strongest. We are called to gestate, to wait, to slow down, to prepare for the return of the active and outward yang. The celebrations of our ancestors were, at their core, intended to honor this endocrine and energetic magic, while plugging us into the larger context of cosmic energies. We celebrate the cosmic play of light and darkness in a tangible, physical way. I will talk about Saturn, Sun, Earth, Christmas, the Sacred Union, vision boarding, feminine energetics, and the ways in which we can attune to the magic of solstice.

How we engage the mind can have an effect on our wellbeing in profound ways. What is even more interesting is how the mind and body interact. We are all familiar how the emotions can be the source of internally generated illness, and we are all familiar with how injury or illness can in turn have an effect on our emotional life. Some would go so far as to say all physical illness is rooted in the emotions. To me that seems a bit simplistic. but I'd agree that our physiology and the internal “climate” generated by the emotions… they are not disconnected. In this conversation with Joyce Vlarrkamp we discuss the inner landscape, not just of the patient, but the practitioner as well. Along with the metaphors and imagery through which patients navigate their experience. If you're keen on investigating the inner landscape, you'll enjoy this conversation.

Hi everyone! We are doing things a little bit differently today! I am spending time in reflection with my mother in my home before setting off on a 6 month journey. On this podcast we discuss the infinite beauty in the world around us, mirror neurons, and how to attract beauty by embodying beauty (not in a superficial way!). Our bodies are our vehicles to experience love, connection, and the divine. Therefore, they really do become our temple of worship. However, the body is this ever changing facet of life. Superficial beauty standards are the quickest way to suffer, because they attach us to something that is truly impossible. Finding the depth and subtle beauty within and, more importantly, how we choose to find beauty - cultivates an inner landscape that is constantly in bloom. I hope you enjoy! Connection is the ultimate antidote to loneliness and addiction, but in our world, it eludes so many. The rift between our inner landscapes and how we describe them to each other makes it hard for us to tune into one another, and so we're stuck in small talk, restrictive words, and nothing that truly nourishes.   We want to get our true feelings across, but the words we use regularly don't describe them well enough, so we're left with limited language.    Could learning to use better descriptors of our inner worlds be the solution? Some of the most powerful ways to connect and be understood is using embodied language - “cold feet”, “lump in my throat”, “pit of my stomach”. These phrases allow for a circulation of actual experience and emotion that goes deeper than saying “I'm fine.”    How do we expand and express our inner vocabulary? In this episode, we talk about how to solve addiction and all the other side effects of disconnection.    Most people aren't aware that the paucity of our descriptors for inner life has an impact on our creativity, and also our relationships with others. -Katie Hendricks   Four Things You'll Learn In This Episode    -From fly-by conversation to reservoir-filling connection How do we escape the trap of small talk and communicate in a nourishing way?   -Focus on verbs  What assists us in letting someone else in?   -Get rid of stingy words How do we get away from using words like ‘fine' or ‘interesting' and pull true emotion out of people?   -Words can be music  How does sound allow us to access our inner landscape?

See you in the New Year! ___ The questions we most often get asked usually come down to “What does it mean if I dream about ____?” We all want to know more about what our dreams are saying to us and how to interpret them, and people have been compiling manuals on dream symbolism since the advent of the written word. Even today there are hundreds of books on the subject online. But should we be attached to specific meanings? Does a tooth or cat or a car come with some universal meaning attached that is the same for everyone?  In this episode, Laura and Dave welcome Dr Nigel Hamilton aboard the Dream Boat to talk about personal and universal symbols in dreams and how he works with them as a psychotherapist. Nigel is a highly experienced therapist, teacher, researcher and one of the world's leading pioneers in dream interpretation techniques. He is the founder of one the world's top Transpersonal Psychotherapy colleges, the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education in London, co-founder of the DRI Centre for Dream Studies and the former UK Representative of the Inayatiyya Sufi Order International. He has spent years studying and pioneering techniques for working with dream symbolism and his book Awakening Through Dreams: Journeys Through the Inner Landscape covers some of his fascinating discoveries. He teaches workshops and leads courses on spiritual approaches to psychotherapy at CCPE.  In this episode, Dr Hamilton discusses the symbolism of colours, symbols of transformation in the alchemical model, and how we can discern the personal from the universal.  For our “Dream of the Week” feature, Nigel shares three brief dreams which marked particular steps in his own process.      Let us know what you think, and submit a dream for us to explore on the podcast!  Instagram @thedreamboatpodcast FaceBook @dreamboatpodcast Twitter @dreamboatpod DRI website: driccpe.org.uk/contact  This podcast is a project of the DRI, the centre for dream studies at CCPE, the psychotherapy college overlooking the canals at London's scenic Little Venice. Fire, floods, sex and death. Flying and falling. Coming apart and putting the pieces back together to be more of yourself than you ever were before. Finding the gold within. Welcome to your dreams of personal transformation, and the symbolic system that can guide you through them: Alchemy. If you've heard of it, it might be from Harry Potter or maybe as the mystical antecedent to modern chemistry. Or maybe you've heard Laura and Dave talking about it on the Dream Boat! In this episode, they give a brief overview of alchemy as a symbolic system that describes the stages of change in the psyche, originally identified by Jung in his reading of medieval mystical texts and still used in analytical psychology and taught on the Diploma in Integrative Transpersonal Counselling and Psychotherapy at CCPE in London. Included in this discussion: The 4 stages of the alchemical model Seven major “operations” or processes that help change occur Images in dreams that signify the stages and operations The symbolic elements – earth, water, fire and air – and the aspects of consciousness they represent And the Dream of the Week is a magical dream of transformation aided by a shaman in the desert under a starry sky, leading to the emergence of a golden snake. Dave and Laura talk about the rich alchemical imagery and what it might mean for the dreamer. Don't you wish you had dreams like that? Your dreams are fascinating, too. In this episode, Nigel talks about dreams as a journey, not just a narrative. He tells us how we can track consciousness travelling through the body during sleep, and why it is important to connect images to sensations and locate them in the body, and how this releases the transformative power of dreams. He shares images of transformation from his work as a therapist using the Waking Dream Process, including decapitation (as a good thing!) and an emerald green scarab beetle that represents the way out of a nightmare. He also talks about some of his own profound dream experiences that shaped his view of dreams and his development of the Waking Dream Process. For "Dream of the Week", Laura brings a client's dream about meeting a childhood friend in a fairground. Rewilding is a concept that has gained much popularity in recent years as the pandemic has peeled back the layers of industry and challenged our global relationships with consciousness, our priorities, and our politics. There are many conversations to be had about rewilding our external lives through learning to garden or farm, by taking a closer look at how fast we're moving as a world, and by choosing to raise our children in ways that benefit their spirits and their wholeness. But what about this idea of rewilding the idea internal aspects of society? Our thoughts, our inner landscape, our conscious minds, our mental wholeness, and our souls? How can our ways of orienting to the world be benefited by rewilding the inner landscape of the soul? It felt incredible to sit down with Bethaney Wilkinson and discuss these things. While we didn't come away with concrete step-by-step answers, together we did ask some incredibly valuable questions that we hope will spur you on in your own relationship with these matters. About Bethaney Wilkinson Bethaney Wilkinson (she/her) holds space for change as a writer, facilitator, leadership coach and spiritual director. I am honored to have the founder of Integrate Well Coaching, Alicia Wolfe, as my guest for this episode. Alicia shares some great insight on how she brings levity through possibility and helps people face hard things by focusing on what is truly possible. This helps honor the challenges people face by recognizing that each of us has our own summit and definition of what success means. We talk about the power of possibility and how focusing on that brings levity because words and thoughts have power. By thinking about things in the proper framework we can harness that power in new ways. Alicia guides us through the inspiring principle of self-leadership and champions it as a foundational leadership trait to leading others. In her own path to leading self, she had to overcome limiting beliefs and voices. We discuss some of these and describe the pitfall of comparison while highlighting the power of self-improvement as a motivational tool. Alicia illustrates the power of establishing core values, vision, and cultivating curiosity to prevent being distracted by other peoples comparisons and limiting voices. She distinguishes courage comes before confidence and shares a personal experience of when a company took a chance on her. We all need someone to believe in us and we can look for opportunities to believe in others when they don't quite believe in themselves. Every person is valuable and can be the solution to a problem our organization has if we help them rise to that occasion. We just have learn to look to for the possibilities like Alicia and appreciate the world for what it could be.  Alicia is a life & leadership coach, a mother of 2 young girls, a wife, an entrepreneur, a speaker, and a full-time traveler! Alicia studied Organizational Leadership at Gonzaga University and continued her education in Women's Leadership after that. She has supported hundreds of female (and male) leaders step into the best versions of themselves, both professionally and personally. In the past 5 years, Alicia has learned (and unlearned) what truly matters to her and has built a life that lives into that. Alicia is a HECK YES to the things that matter to her and let the rest slide. She is a visionary and one of Alicia's core values is possibility, but she is also known as "the Queen of Practicality" because Alicia can take a bold vision or goal and help her clients create a clear pathway to success through little shifts and practical steps. Alicia knows living a BIG life doesn't just come from daydreaming and vision boards. And her clients get clear, simple, practical tools to help them create the life they love. Alicia puts the "ha!" in hard work. She knows that development, self-discovery, and personal growth can be really challenging, but slightly less challenging when you can laugh your way through it! We will begin by planting tall trees and shrubs, to ensure protection and boundaries. Then we move on to building a pond and some fruit/vegetable trees. The water is a space for you to return to and reflect, meditate and or focus on gratitude. The trees and shrubbery will cleanse your energetic bodies every time you choose to return. The imagination is a powerful tool that we typically lose through adolescence; so allow yourself to see, sense, feel, and know as you are building the picture in your head. Our check-in today is about the different rhythms of summer; Matt starts us off with the myth of “summers off” for teachers, but we recognize that we do have different opportunities with the coming of the summer months. Late bedtimes, smoothies for lunch, and changing exercise routines–we have lots to enjoy with the coming of summer! Our main topic of discussion today comes from Matt's recent re-reading of Parker J. Palmer's impactful book, The Courage to Teach. (Which is one of Dave's very favorite books ever.) A central concept in the book is one we've mentioned on the show before: “teaching who you are.” Matt shares a passage from the book that introduces Palmer's idea of teacher identity, and we take a little time to think out loud together about what this means for us, and how it shows up in our own practices. We hope you'll be encouraged and inspired by listening–and that it might spark a hallway conversation for you with a colleague about your own teacher identity. On this episode, Katie discusses the fascinating philosophical contributions of four women philosophers: one a zealous Catholic convert, one a bohemian artist, one an upperclass academic, and one a 'jack of all trades' with a special interest in biology and animals. What did they all have in common? A shared desire for Truth in an age of dogmatic relativism. As they discussed and debated the huge ethical questions of the day (the Holocaust, etc.) they each reached toward a comprehensive understanding of the human person as ethically whole - able to be discussed and understood. We talks about the co-created art she has created with other artists and scientists around the world, as she prepares to do her Ph.D. We get into using telepathy and precognitive dreams in the process. We talk about the warning in December 2019 to hurry up as there "is going to be a great reset coming and you really need to hurry up on this. Hurry up." When it comes to humanitarian help, even the purest desire of contributing to the ones in need can be harmful. The idea of coming from a western civilization to help or solve a problem is both racist and colonialist. Countless well-intentioned initiatives ended up as UFOs (Unfinished Objects) in several African countries, littering the landscape. What undeveloped countries need is consistent actions sustained in extended periods, not a five years project that will end as fast as it started after that time is over. In this episode, we talk with Ann Marie Thomson, Ph.D. She is a retired Adjunct Professor at the O'Neil School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA), Indiana University. She holds a B.A. in International Relations from North Park University, an Associate Degree in Nursing, with RN licensure, a Masters in Public Affairs, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Comparative Politics at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. Born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ann Marie is passionate about finding a way to make cross-cultural interactions contribute positively to social justice. She also co-founded the Bloomington-based education NGO, Giving Back to Africa, in 2007, which recently morphed into Malembe Rise. We had an inspiring conversation about her work as a volunteer and Malembe Rise's actions in the Rep Dem of Congo. She kindly shared her parents' story as volunteers themselves and their lifetime work in the African country. Ann Marie brilliantly explained the difference between actions and projects and how each one of them affects the communities they are meant to help. We also talked about Malembe Rise's education model, long-term goals, and actuality. Tune in to Episode 14 of Bravefull to hear more! Some Questions I Ask:Tell us about your background and how you came to love the Rep Dem of Congo?
