Since the fall of creation, God has known that we have a sin problem and we can't fix it on our own no matter how badly we want to. He says, "You are my people and I will be your God" and invites us into everlasting relationship. Let's take Him up on that offer.
Nick and Joy get a bit worked up over some of their favorite films; from plot twists to movie scores, emotional deaths to don't bother seeing the movie. They laugh, rip on M. It’s Episode 114! Adelle Drover (Roll Credits) and Clarisse Loughrey (Independent and Kermode and Mayo) return to Flixwatcher to review Adelle’s choice the 2004 zombie romcom Shaun of the Dead. Shaun of the Dead is the first in the Cornetto Trilogy of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg post Spaced feature films. Pegg is Shaun, a directionless Londoner caught up in a zombie apocalypse while trying to get back together with his girlfriend with his best mate Ed (Nick Frost) in tow. At a run time of 99 minutes Shaun of the Dead manages to fit in numerous nods to all your favourite zombie films, Spaced references, classic lines “you’ve got red on you”, cameos from the who’s who of British comedy, Queen on the soundtrack and a commendable level of gore. A proper cult classic. Scores [supsystic-tables id=119] Watching Shaun of the Dead feels a lot like hanging out with your best mate and is also a friendly welcome to the zombie sub genre. Shaun scores highly across all categories with a lot of love from Clarisse and Helen scoring 4.45 overall. What do you guys think? Have you seen Shaun of the Dead? What did you think? It’s Episode 111! Clarisse Loughrey (Independent and Kermode and Mayo) and Adelle Drover (Roll Credits) join Flixwatcher to review Clarisse’s choice Snowpiercer. Snowpiercer is a 2013 dystopian science fiction action film by Korean genius Bong Joon-ho starring Chris (Steve Rogers) Evans, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Song Kang-ho, Octavia Spencer, John Hurt and Ed Harris. Despite being released in America in 2013 its biggest UK release was May 2019 on Netflix. In an attempt to combat global warming (take note planet) climate engineering goes wrong and turns the planet into a barren iced wasteland and the only survivors left are travelling, in order of class (upper at the front having orgies, middle class in the middle and the lower class at the back eating cockroach protein bars and keeping the travel running) on Snowpiercer as it travels at speed to no apparent destination. Following the abduction of two children from the back of the train Evans launches a mission to get to the front of the train to take control and violence and bizarreness ensues, including Octavia Spencer cracking an egg on a child’s face. Scores [supsystic-tables id=116] There was a LOT of love for Snowpiercer, especially Clarisse but there was a record number of reviews tweeted too (thanks everyone!) and rightly so, only losing points on repeat viewing (over two hours is a long repeat viewing) and some for small screen but high all round for recommendability and engagement, scoring 4.11 overall. What do you guys think? Have you seen Snowpiercer? What did you think? Please let us know in the comments below! My friend and I discussing our favorite movies of 2018. In our main podcast we watch movies daily and our goal is to get a weekly podcast/ review going for those movies.
Ryker Hall is a local singer songwriter and over the last year you may have seen him play at open mic's and songwriter showcases. He recorded a 4 song EP in Denton with a little help from friends in Denton bands. Soon you'll be a Skeleton is a really fun listen. With 4 songs and just under 12 minutes its a great way to start your day or add to a mix. The sound is part emo/post punk mixed with Americana if you had to classify it. The first song is Placeholder. It opens up the show and the EP. We ask Ryker about the album, the players and recording. We also learn about Rykers amazing ability to beat box and desire to sing in a hop hop song or possibly do some rhyming. He has a mix tape out there somewhere and a song with Juma that may be released soon. We also learned what it's like to be a radio DJ. Ryker was cool. Super fun and really interesting. The middle song we play is The Season. The second half we have no emails or Zach Libs but we do have more questions. "The whole show is questions!"- Joe Tacke The second half questions are more fun and random in nature and involves the whole room. The last song on the Ep and the song we close with is Roll Credits, Fade to Black. Listen to the end. There may or may not be an easter egg from Joe. Find the EP anywhere you get your digital music. Itunes, Spotify, Bandcamp ect. Thanks for listening! Check out our friends #suckitstubbs The Jerry Jonestown Massacre The Jenny Janestown Mascara Arlington Distorted Bombaarded
It's the best of the best of the best of 2018! And only our opinion matters! JUST KIDDING. We're talking about our favorite movies of the year. Plus, some strange news involving one of the most popular shows on Netflix. And don't forget your blindfold, or your box! BIRD BOX THAT IS! We're talking about the phenomenon that's sweeping the country. And yes, you can listen to us blindfolded. That's okay. We approve. What we don't approve of is some of the nominees for the Golden Globes. How random will the show be this year? Is it just another popularity contest? Grab your ear buds, your blind fold and your clone. It's time for the first episode of 2019! Screened on the Spot is here. THUNDERCATS ARE GO!

The Screeners host a double-feature this time, heading to the theater for both Oz: The Great and Powerful and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. Before the conversation turns to wizards, monkeys, and the somewhat blurry line between them, though, they spend a little time outside Hollywood with a round of Jump Cuts. How to Raise Money, and Where Not to Spend it (01:23)The lightning round opens with a nerdfest about the increasing accessibility of cinema and video production. The Black Magic Cinema Camera gets a nod for its recent use in a feature-length movie, and the Screeners talk about their experience with it and other increasingly affordable theater-quality digital cameras.Next, the round gets charged, but maybe not so lightning-fast anymore, as the Screeners take on the recent Veronica Mars Kickstarter success, touching on everything from the revolutionary nature of crowdfunding a studio-backed movie to Joss Whedon’s reaction to the news.Having talked enough about worthy causes, the Screeners move on to one of the newest trends in the gaming market: Microtransactions. CliffyB’s defense of the practice isn’t winning too many hearts over here, though Chad does note the extreme difficulty of building a successful virtual farm while juggling a career and family on the side. A magic grape every now and then might just be a good buy; you decide.Moving on to a less visually assaulting medium, the Screeners spend some time talking about what they’re currently reading or have just finished. Josh mentions a couple good books and totally shafts the authors by not giving their names (sorry about that), and mysterious forces try to prevent Chris from talking about his recommendation. Links are at the bottom of this post, but don’t look down there before you listen if you want to be surprised by the titles. Now, to Pull Back this Curtain... (Oz, 27:00; Burt Wonderstone, 42:00)So, does the modern-day prequel to the The Wizard of Oz make us all feel like kids again? What’s it like to see Jim Carrey be funny in a movie again? Or was he funny in Burt Wonderstone? The main event has the answers to those questions and many more (including the perennial favorite, “How annoyed does Josh have to be before he becomes completely incoherent?”). Oh, and a little pro-tip for producers: Spend the extra coin on those opening credits; Melody’s watching closely. As with other Screeners reviews, there's a spoiler-free overview for each movie, but then thar' be spoilers, so head out when you hear Vader if you want the plots to be farmer's market fresh for you when you get to the theater.Nothing Beats Nostalgia (51:50)Longer reviews behind them, the Screeners offer an homage to a favorite from the Totally Rad Show: A Flickchart battle royale. In it, we learn that the 90’s was a golden age of cinema (who knew?), and that Chris and Melody can’t stand movies with more words than explosions (guess who doesn’t write the show notes...). Since the movies in this segment are the only ones on there so far, you, um, might not want to check out the Screeners’ Flickchart page, but hey; everyone could use a good laugh, right?Roll CreditsThat’s it for this time.
