No one working in special ed has ever said, “I chose this career so I could do paperwork all evening and weekend.”Yet many realize after getting into the field that administrative demands can take away from time spent with students or collaborating with colleagues. That's why I was so excited to connect with Sean Klamm, special educator and founder of Playground IEP (Link here: https://www.playgroundiep.com/) in episode 156 of “De Facto Leaders”. After starting his career as a teacher and then special education administrator, Sean was inspired to find a solution that would streamline, and potentially remove some of the “behind the scenes” work special educators need to do to manage service plans.Sean Klamm is the Founder of Playground IEP. Sean is a Special Educator and former Director of Special Education at Butler College Prep in Chicago. After serving as Director for 5 years, Sean transitioned to build Playground IEP; the special education tools he wished he had while working in the school. Playground IEP is a new class of caseload management software that increases collaboration and automates many of the manual caseload management tasks. Sean and his team also built IEPcopilot.ai (Link here: https://www.playgroundiep.com/iep-copilot) which uses AI to assist in writing IEP goals, BIPs, and other sections of the IEP. Sean and his team are committed to building tools that allow teachers to spend more time with students and less time with spreadsheets. In this conversation, we discuss:✅ What's the real motivation behind using AI and technology?✅ How to keep the entire team in the loop about goals and accommodations (instead of letting IEPs collect dust in a binder on the shelf).✅ When teachers aren't supported, IEPs don't get fully implemented. How do we solve that problem? ✅ Using AI and technology to make space for better instructional practices and team collaboration.✅ Systems vs. tools vs. culture: How leadership can avoid the “technology for the sake of technology” trap. You can connect with Sean on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/seanklamm/Learn more about PlayGround IEP here: https://www.playgroundiep.com/Create a free IEP Copilot account here: https://www.playgroundiep.com/iep-copilotIn this episode, I mention Language Therapy Advance Foundations, my program that helps SLPs create a system for language therapy. In this episode Simon, Darren Bedford and Colin McAllister look at the service department and strategies for the ‘Golden Hour'. With current financial pressures, customers are delaying servicing their vehicles. Then when the cars eventually come in to the dealership, more work needs to be done due to the delay.  Also, as previously discussed,  finding Technicians is becoming increasingly difficult, and we need to be more inventive in our recruitment processes.   These circumstances and others put pressure on the ‘Golden Hour' and we then loose efficiencies once a vehicle is off the ramp. How do we make sure this doesn't happen? Here are the highlights: {02:35} Service Plans and VHC's {05:22} Communication after diagnostics {11:08} Tech recruitment {15:23} Mix of work to skill levels {17:38} Time Targets for the ‘Golden Hour' {20:07} Get in life, what you focus on About Symco Training: Symco Training was founded in 2000 by Simon Bowkett and it was his belief that the business had to offer its clients something different. That difference was clear to Simon from his days in the dealership when he experienced many sales trainers who had all the answers, but were unable, unwilling or both to actually show the delegate how they could be implemented. It remains the ethos of the business today. You see, Symco only employ trainers that are committed to delivering not only in spiring and insightful training, but are equally as happy to demonstrate these skills and techniques with real customers in your own showroom. We believe in order for sales training to be effective and in Simon's words ‘real world', it needs to be tried and tested in the only place it matters the showroom floor. There is no room for theory when your goals are for your team to sell more cars, hours or parts and retain more profit. In dealerships around the world the focus applied by many of the sales executives is to try and sell a deal. Symco specialise in getting your teams to focus on selling themselves, the product and then supporting this with the deal. To find out more visit: www.symcotraining.co.uk

Football for Forests (F4F) is a non-profit initiative on a mission to restore tropical forests through the power of football. Forest destruction is often depicted in football pitches. They are working to flip this narrative: the football pitch becomes a symbol of forest restoration. They are targeting the biggest crowd in the world with their digital app - 3.5 billion football fans across the globe. They want to restore 10,000 football pitches of forest, equivalent to ca. 7,000 hectares and nearly 12 million trees over the next five years. U.S. Forest Service plans salvage logging research in Mendocino National Forest

For Mendocino County Public Broadcasting, this is the KZYX News for Friday, Oct. 22. I'm Sonia Waraich.Fire and forest ecologists virtually all agree that prescribed and cultural fires will be an important tool to stop catastrophic wildfires from ripping through the state's forests. But what should we do about forestland that's already been burned by a fire? The U.S. Forest Service's answer in the Mendocino National Forest is salvage logging. That's a somewhat controversial practice when they cut down and remove dead trees to keep the amount of flammable material in the forest to a minimum.Cynthia Snyder is an insect specialist and one of the people on a field trip through the parts of the forest where the August Complex Fire hit last year. She's hacked off a piece of bark from one of the burnt trees nearby and shows us the insect boring holes and frass, or little wood scraps, they leave behind. Those bugs are damaging the wood of those trees and making it harder for the Forest Service to find loggers to do the work. But research is showing salvage logging may not always be the best tool to use in every situation. So the Forest Service is building on that research. Hydrologist Hilda Kwan describes the research project and the agency's prescription: salvage logging some, all or none of the dead trees in a specified plot.Silviculturist Radek Glebocki explains why this site specifically was chosen. That was U.S. Forest Service silviculturist Radek Glebocki, hydrologist Hilda Kwan and entomologist Cynthia Synder on a tour of the parts of the Mendocino National Forest that were burned by the August complex fire last year. For the KZYX News, I'm Sonia Waraich, a Report For America corps member. I have been thinking about this year's carol services for the Thames Valley churches of Christ and the Watford Church of Christ for several months. However, I sat down to write out a draft order of service more recently. I’ll share with you what we are doing this year (you can access the TV service here, and the Watford service here), but I'd like to know what ideas you have. Our format is based on the tried and tested template we've use for a few years now. A number of popular carols interspersed with readings by preteens and teenagers along with one or two newer songs. The two Carol services I'm involved with this year in Thames Valley and Watford will be almost identical. Here are a few highlights. We're singing the song “He shall reign forevermore (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRVs0HikGeM) ” by Chris Tomlin and Mat Maher. We learned it last year. In the Watford congregation when we sing “Away in a Manger” we'll begin with one of our preteens, Leah, playing the tune on her flute whilst I’ll support her with my melodica. This year’s new song is “Midnight clear (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4tGVUX3YqI) ” by Richard Willis, Chris Tomlin, Ed Cash and Jonas Myrin. One of the advantages of a song like this is that the tune of the verses will be familiar to many in the congregation. There’s only a chorus to learn. If you’re in a situation like mine, it’s hard to find the time to teach new songs. Learning one where either lyrics (like “He shall reign” referenced above) or tune are familiar keeps things fresh while not making learning a new song too demanding. We'll also be performing for the second year in a row a song I wrote last year called “Bethlehem Carol”. Communion will be taken whilst a three-part version of “Coventry Carol” arranged for keyboard and soloist is performed. The children will be performing something Christmassy, I’m assured by the children’s ministry people! What are you aiming for with your carol service, if you are having one? I’m aiming for a mix of old and new, tradition and freshness which will have enough familiarity for people visiting our congregation along with some variety to spice up things for our long-time members. The involvement of the children seems to be particularly significant. What have you tried that works and doesn’t work? What did you learn from that? What have you seen tried that works or doesn’t work? What are you doing at the moment which seems to be working?  Could you post your entire carol service outline? It’d be helpful and even inspiring to see the different things we’re doing. Question for today: “How to you balance the traditional and the fresh in your carol service?" Please add your comments on this week’s topic. We learn best when we learn in community.  Do you have a question about teaching the Bible? Is it theological, technical, practical? Send me your questions or suggestions. Here’s the email: malcolm@malcolmcox.org (mailto:malcolm@malcolmcox.org) . Can You Help Me Fight The Fossils? Read More About Patreon here EVne.ws/patreon   Read today’s show notes on https://www.evnewsdaily.com   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 9th February 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I can find today, and picked out the ones I think you need to know about.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   AUDI CONTINUE ADVERTISING E-TRON I’m not a fan of ads, but in my Twitter timeline I was very happy to see Audi spending money on social media with a 12 second video of the Audi e-tron in action. "Join the electric revolution. Order your #etron now" The link goes to beta.audi.co.uk/electric-car/e-tron.html with the heading "Electric Goes Audi". On the page the sections are The e-tron, Charging, Grants and Benefits, Finance and Service Plans, Technology, Pod Point and Formula E. THe e-tron from £71,490. The e-tron launch edition £82,240. "The special Launch Edition adds even more allure to the already stylish e-tron. 21” alloy wheels, black styling details and full body-coloured bumpers give the car an immediate and dramatic presence. Many advanced features, such as Matrix LED headlights, come as standard; others include the unique virtual door mirrors, Adaptive Cruise Assist and Comfort remote preconditioning. And for an extra sense of light and spaciousness, there’s a panoramic glass sunroof that displays the skies to all occupants. Image includes optional Catalunya red, metallic paint and black roof rails."   CCS COMBO CHARGES TESLA MODEL 3 The very first European-spec Model 3's in Europe are in the hands of customers and immediately they headed not to Superchargers, but to the High Powered Chargers like Fastned and IONITY. Now some of them can't charge at the full 350kW because they're waiting for liquid cooled cables but they'll certainly do 150kW I gather. This is interesting because Tesla has always has its own connector but in Europe they're fitting the CCS Combo plug. So no more CHAdeMO adapter to purchase. The previous spec of CCS was limited to 200amps but the new protocol CCS2.0 allows for a lot more juice, and that's what I mean by High Powered Charger. And so the Netherlands-based Fastned, who tweeted a graphic with the charge speed they had recorded on their system. The MOdel 3 went straight to 125kW and stayed there to 50% state of charge, dropped down to 50kW at 75% and gradually went down from there and it tapered off. What I thought was interesting was that at 50% it drops off quite quickly. But is that unfair, because my experience of Supercharger a Model S it doesn't hit peak speed for that long, but the taper off seems more gentle. Let me know!   (Explanation of why charge speed tapers for beginners)   ELON FLIES TO EUROPE And isn't it weird what the internet can show us. As I was working today I saw tweets from people with plane tracker apps saying Elon Musk had taken off in his Gulfstream jet and was headed East, crossing the Atlantic. It soon because clear he was heading to Europe. It’s interesting because he asks for his callsign to be blocked so this was an aviation expert who worked out the route of the N628TS. He landed around 1715 local time in Ostend, near to where the cars were delivered to Zeebrugge. Not only is he very hands on with any issues, but also it’s fair that over the weekend he sees for himself the logistics on the ground.   RENAULT ZOE TO GET CCS COMBO AND 22KW ONBOARD AC A story I came across because I follow Eric Feunteun, he's the Electric Vehicle Program Director for Renault: "The European passenger plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) market ended the year on a positive note, registering a near record 40,500 units in December with the 2018 count ending at a record 386,000 deliveries" according to CleanTechnica. The Zoe was the December winner with 5,382 in the month, well ahead of the LEAF, the I-PACE and any Tesla. On the year 2018 the Zoe sold 38,538. "This positive score is the result of LG providing more batteries to the French carmaker, thanks to the ramp up of its European factory in Wroclaw, Poland. Without the battery bottleneck, we should finally see the real demand for the Zoe."   And late last night I also found an article in French, so I was relying on Google Translate with this one. It's on largus.fr. The new Zoe is being revealed at the Geneva show soon, and will be based on the new Clio. Inside the main dash will be 7 or 10 inches, with the 10 inch dash also showing the sat nav just like the latest VW system. THen the centre screen will be 7" or 9.3", and have all the controls including climate. There's adaptive cruise and Level 2 self driving, so Lane Keep Assist and Traffic Jam system. The battery was upgraded in 2017 to a 41kWh. That stays although more power will be on tap, but they add CCS Combo plug AND 22kW onboard AC charging. That's the perfect combo. DC Fast Charging or AC Semi-Fast. One of my listeners Mike Winter explained it's because of the sheer amount of 22kW posts in France. Production starts in Q2 and marketed at the end of Summer. Production will be 440 a day.   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/02/03/europe-ev-sales-renault-zoe-wins-in-december-nissan-leaf-takes-2018-title/   https://translate.google.com/translate?depth=1&hl=en&nv=1&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&sp=nmt4&tl=en&u=https://www.largus.fr/actualite-automobile/renault-zoe-2-2019-tout-savoir-sur-la-nouvelle-zoe-electrique-9620390.html&xid=17259,15700021,15700186,15700190,15700248   POLESTAR 1 SPIED PLAYING ON A FROZEN LAKE "Polestar’s big debut on the automotive market will soon become a reality. The brand from Sweden is putting the finishing touches on the Polestar 1 which should go into mass production before the end of 2019. Still, apparently, there are several things that need to be refined before the sports coupe reaches the production phase." reports Anthony Karr for Motor1.com: "[Spy photographs show] a prototype of the car doing some high-speed tests on a frozen lake somewhere in Sweden. Almost every part of this trial car looks ready to be put on the assembly lines but the test drivers are probably gathering more data about the vehicle’s behavior under certain conditions."   https://www.motor1.com/news/304493/polestar-1-spied-winter-testing/amp/   ALL-NEW 2020 KIA SOUL ELECTRIC SPOTTED IN NEW COLORS InsideEVs is talking about the new Kia Soul EV: "When it debuted in LA, the all-new Kia Soul EV was seen in just a color or two, but now we get to see the long-range electric in a plethora of new hues. These new images, captured at the Kia Irvine site, show us what the Soul EV looks like in colors other than that neon green. There’s a graphite Soul EV with a tan roof. A black version with a red roof and more." From Kia: The next generation Kia Soul EV celebrated its world premiere at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. One of the most upbeat urban compact crossovers is back with even more appeal & upgrades. The vehicle will be powered by a next-generation, state-of-the-art liquid-cooled lithium-ion polymer 64 kWh battery. That’s the same as what’s found in the Kia Niro EV, which goes some 301 miles per charge (WLTP) or an estimated 260 miles EPA. Considering that the current Soul EV, with its 30-kWh battery pack, is EPA-rated at 111 miles, we figure this 2020 Soul EV, with 64-kWh on board, will travel close to 240 miles per charge, maybe even more. Sadly, since its Kia, this will be a limited offering in the U.S., so availability will be an issue. The 2020 Kia Soul EV is set to utilize a 201 horsepower electric motor, delivering 291 lb-ft of torque. However, the new battery is currently being tested to ascertain precise EPA-estimated range. Results are expected early in 2019 and will be announced at a later date." The curb weight of the Soul EV is a lot less than the eNiro, so that range might be good!   https://insideevs.com/2020-kia-soul-electric-spotted-new-colors/   TESLA AUTOPILOT APPROVED EUROPE "The Tesla Model 3 was officially approved for sale in Europe, but as it turns out the original Type Approval from RDW in the Netherlands doesn’t include the Tesla Autopilot" reported InsideEVs this morning, but then added: "Tesla has reportedly gained European approval for Autopilot." The approval for the feature arrived early on Friday from the Netherlands Vehicle Authority RDW. "The first Model 3 delivered to customers in Europe has disabled Autopilot feature, which according to Tesla is expected to be enabled in Europe next week, when a separate approval will be issued. The slight delay between car sales and enabling Autopilot is apparently caused by the requirement to additionally test the Autopilot for Model 3 (it has different hardware than Autopilot in Model S and Model X)." Meanwhile: "Tesla has opted to offer Enhanced Autopilot as standard for the electric sedan. As could be seen in Tesla’s order pages for China, the offer appears to be available only for Model 3 purchases. Pages for the Model S and X still list the driver-assist suite as a 46,300 yuan (around $6,800) addition." according to Simon at Teslarati: "The inclusion of Enhanced Autopilot is available for all Model 3 orders in the country, meaning even reservations for the Long Range RWD Model 3 –currently the most affordable Tesla available in China — include the driver-assist suite for free. "   https://insideevs.com/tesla-autopilot-approved-europe-next-week/   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-enhanced-autopilot-standard-model-3-china/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week.
