Will artificial intelligence help you do your job, or will it just straight-up do your job and leave you unemployable? Or will the future bring something else entirely — either between those two extremes or a world that we simply cannot imagine yet? And are we already starting to see signs of that future emerging? On this episode of The New Bazaar, Cardiff is joined by economist Nathan Goldschlag, Research Director at the Economic Innovation Group. Until recently, Nathan was Principal Economist at the U.S. Census Bureau's Center for Economic Studies, where among other things he led research on the impact of technology, including AI, on the economy. Any worthwhile list of the world's best economists on the subject of AI and work would have to include him. Cardiff and Nathan go through Nathan's own research* and also filter out the megaton of nonsense on the topic and discuss some of the work done by others — research, essays, meanderings — that they think is actually worth sharing with listeners. They discuss, among other things: How many businesses are now using AI to produce goods and servicesHow have things changed since the launch and popularization of large language modelsEconomic growth consequences of AIWhether “learn to code” is still good advice The skills that still matter To steer or not to steer the AI future* Nathan's research on AI was done in collaboration with a large team of researchers at the Center for Economic Studies at the U.S. Census Bureau including Emin Dinlersoz, Lucia Foster, David Beede, John Haltiwanger, Zach Kroff, Nikolas Zolas, Gary Anderson, and Eric Childress, along with program area partners including Kathryn Bonney, Cory Breaux, Cathy Buffington, and Keith Savage, as well as academic partners including Daron Acemoglu, Erik Brynjolfsson, Kristina McElheran, and Pascual Restrepo. Innovation. It's a word that features in almost every speech, article and business strategy – simply because leaders know it's what keeps their customers engaged long term. It's also one of the most important drivers for sustained growth.Yet, for all its importance, innovation is curiously difficult to define. So, how can we identify the exceptional ideas from the everyday? And – more to the point – what does innovation actually look like in the world of engineering and manufacturing? Can an innovative company culture be built with the right team, or is it instead a natural outcome of the R&D process? This is the central topic we examine in the third and final episode of this series of Beyond the Blueprint. This time we're joined by Graham Reed, Manuela Kraus and Mark Koski, three colleagues who have spearheaded innovation across different divisions of Ingersoll Rand. We get the inside track on their experiences, as well as some reflections on standout projects that capture the true meaning of innovation. It's a fitting end to series two. Be sure to tune in. Topics covered in this episode include:What exactly is innovation? And how does the ‘right' idea happen? What comes first: changing customer requirements or entirely new concepts that need shaping according to customers' needs?Challenges associated with the development of new products and servicesHow to avoid overengineering a solution Website: www.irco.comLinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/ingersoll-rand

I wanted to have a chat today about Black Friday sales, and more specifically, why I don't ever put my services on sale in my own business, because that's something that I have been asked a couple of times. I've spoken about to my brand design studio mentoring clients and I wanted to chat about it on the podcast because I think for high ticket service providers, or service providers in general, honestly, this is something that could be of use to you or at least to hear my take on it. Since this whole month is basically Black Friday and every business is putting stuff on sale, I want to give you my thoughts. The more offers you have, the more money you will make, right? WRONG! While it may sound counterintuitive, in this episode, Keila discusses why reducing the number of offerings you provide can amplify and exceed your previous profit and revenue targets. Take Little Fish for example, who doubled their revenue in just two years after eliminating their buffet of services! So tune in and find out if narrowing your service offerings is right for you and how you can get paid more to do less. KEY POINTS:Why you may want to offer fewer servicesHow narrowing down can save on costsWhat to consider when cutting your list of services“All money ain't good money.”QUOTABLES:“When you slow down how many services you offer, or actually just streamline down to a lower number of services, you really have the opportunity to make those better.” - Keila Hill-Trawick “It's hard to be an expert in your field that can provide value to clients when your hands are in a bunch of different buckets. So start looking at your suite of services and ask yourself, could we do less for more?” - Keila Hill-Trawick RESOURCES:Like what you're hearing? Podcast: The PrOTect OT Cybersecurity Podcast (LS 28 · TOP 10% what is this?)Episode: Dan Gunter: How Our Growing Ability To Process Data Affects CybersecurityPub date: 2023-03-16About Dan Gunter: Dan Gunter is an accomplished cybersecurity professional with a wealth of experience in the field. As the founder and CEO of Insane Forensics, he is committed to providing digital forensics and threat-hunting services to help organizations protect themselves from cyber threats. Dan's expertise was honed through years of service in the United States Air Force, including as an officer in the Air Force Computer Emergency Response Team (AFCERT) and operational CYBERCOM teams. He also served as Director of Research and Development for Dragos Inc, where he oversaw detection engineering and reverse engineering efforts to protect critical infrastructure sites. Dan is a highly-regarded speaker and has presented at numerous events, including Blackhat, Schmoocon, S4, and CS3STHLM, where he has shared his knowledge on incident response, threat hunting, consequence analysis, and security operations. In this episode, Aaron and Dan Gunter discuss:The differences and challenges of incident response in IT vs OT environments, particularly in protecting critical infrastructure in OT systemsWhat a typical engagement looks like in an industrial environment for proactive and reactive security servicesHow asset owners of SMBs can secure their assets when they don't have an OT group, and what resources are available to help themHow different factors impact the response and success of a security incident in OT environments compared to IT environmentsKey Takeaways:OT and IT systems are often built with similar hardware and software, but on the OT side, the consequences of a system going down can be much more severe, so it's important to understand both the technical level and how humans interact with it, to protect and help asset owners and preserve life and safety.Industrial sites can work with security consultants to prevent problems by taking proactive measures like threat assessments, network monitoring, and incident response retainers, but it's important to understand the environment and build trust to develop effective strategies. To keep your business safe from cyber threats, consult with equipment manufacturers and follow their security guidelines, implement network monitoring and testing, and take proactive and reactive measures without overthinking.Adapting IT and OT procedures to your organization's assets and requirements is crucial due to the significant variation across industries and sites, and a lack of accurate data sources and asset inventory can cause issues. "Our ability to consume, to process, to push technology forward continues to grow. Whether you look at smart city stuff, both for security and also for power management and others, or you look at other systems like 5g and other things, we're able to move data around a lot easier. Email Marketing Heroes, Rob and Kennedy, join us again to continue the conversation about email marketing. They were with us as well in our membership group where we did an entire 90 minutes workshop about email marketing. Today, in this episode of The Savvy Scribe Podcast, you'll learn the number one reason why people are reported as spam when sending emails.About Our GuestsBoth actually have a weird background. Robin is a hypnotist, while Kennedy is a mind reader. They basically use skills of psychology, body language, reading people, understanding people, statistics, and human behavior to pluck a thought from somebody's mind and read what they're thinking. They have been doing this job for nearly 20 years. They set up this what they call “accidental business” but then they both realized they didn't want to spend loads of time, like chatting to people. And so, a really good, efficient way to sell their services, get gigs and repeat gigs, and get referred to other people's gigs was by email marketing. They decided that they want to build a list of clients and send them emails and keep in touch that way at scale. They then apply the psychology of a hypothesis and a mind reader to email marketing.Key points in this episode:What email marketing is?Types of clients it would benefitUnderstanding the funnelWhat is the going rate and pricing your servicesHow to get started with email marketing for clientsProspecting and pitching your new servicesThe importance of adding this strategy into your freelance businessThe number one reason why people are reported as spam when sending emails and they don't buyWhy People are Reported as Spam and What You Can Do About ItSome insights that our guests shared:People want so many different products, so many different services, and then the buyer doesn't know what you're really even doing. Just because a congregation is small does not mean it cannot make a big impact. In fact, many times, the small churches have the biggest impact due to their close-knit community and focus on relationships. Often, these churches are the ones that survive the test of time. This is because they are the ones that are rooted in the community and are not afraid to get involved.Being small is not a problem. The problem is how you can use your size to be as impactful as possible. How do you create an influence that is greater than your size?In this episode, we'll give you a peek into the life of a healthy small church in Orange County, California. They are not your typical small church, but they do things uniquely and wonderfully. Their pastor, Karl Vaters, will give us insight into how they are able to make a big impact in the lives of their people and the community. “My question is if your church disappeared tomorrow, would a segment of your community miss you? There ought to be somebody you're impacting to the degree that they'd miss you if you disappeared. My first piece of advice on that to small church pastors is we have to impact our community.”-Karl VatersIf you're looking for a glimpse into a healthy, thriving church, then this is the episode for you!By the end of this episode, you will learn:Some ways your church can get involved in your communityHow small churches can quickly adopt online servicesHow to foster a sense of community during disruptionTips for leaders of small churchesHow to leverage the strengths of small churches=======Tithely provides the tools you need to engage with your church online, stay connected, increase generosity, and simplify the lives of your staff. With tools like text and email messaging, custom church apps and websites, church management software, digital giving, and so much more… it's no wonder over 37,000 churches in 50 countries trust Tithely to help run their church.Learn more at https://tithely.com
