Katie's story is proof that pace doesn't define you and as long as you run you are a runner. We chat about:How Katie first got into running and what inspired her to startThe fears and limiting beliefs she faced as a new runnerWhat it looks like to balance marathon training while working two jobsHer viral “Run 10 Miles With Me” social media post — and how she navigated both the supportive and negative commentsWhy criticism about how runners “should” look says more about them than it does about youWhether you're training for your first mile or your fifth marathon, this conversation will remind you that there is no such thing as “too slow” and that you belong on the road, the trail, and in this community.--Connect with Katie on socialsTIKTOK: https://www.tiktok.com/@__katiesmiles?_t=ZP-8zobml8bYlz&_r=1INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/__katiesmiles?igsh=ZXN0eTIzcHF0OTVl--------------------Want more content to keep you not only inspired but entertained? Affiliate marketing is shedding its outdated reputation and entering a new era—one centered on authenticity, emotional resonance, and genuine human connection. In fact, during the 2024 U.S. Cyber Monday, influencers and affiliate marketers were responsible for driving around 20% of e-commerce revenue, highlighting just how influential trust-based recommendations have become. At the center of that shift is “vibe marketing,” a new way of thinking about how brands and creators grow together. So, what does it really mean to “get the vibe right”? And how are creators and brands redefining influence? In this episode of Tuesdays with Morrisey, host Adam Morrisey speaks with Andrew Abony, founder and CEO of Adbloom, about how affiliate marketing is evolving into something bigger—what Andrew calls vibe marketing. Andrew's background spans traditional media, early-stage startups, and the modern creator economy, and he's on a mission to help people earn a living by being themselves. The duo talk about what it really means to “get the vibe right,” how brands are losing control (in a good way), and why authenticity is the most valuable currency in marketing today.Key takeaways from the episode…Affiliate = Authentic referrals at scaleAndrew reframes affiliate marketing as a simple idea: people sharing products they actually use and love—and getting paid for it.Vibes > ViralityBrands win when their values, products, and partners align emotionally. When that alignment is off, people feel it and tune out.Execution over everythingThere are lots of good ideas out there. The ones that win are the ones that get shipped. No matter how scrappy the start.Let go of controlThe best-performing content often comes from creators, not corporate. Smart brands are leaning into co-creation, not just dictating the narrative. The new frontier is human + AICreators are using AI to scale their voice. Not to replace themselves, but to extend what they can do across platforms. The episode also covers…The story behind Adbloom's startThe origin of affiliate marketingStanley mugs and vibe-driven growthWhy B2B is starting to look more like D2CCreating community as a byproduct of doing something specialRunning, raison d'être, and what happens when you have the will and support to winAndrew Abony is the CEO and co-founder of Adbloom, a high-growth affiliate and partnership marketing agency that helps startups and enterprise clients scale through creator-driven content and performance marketing. With over 15 years of experience in growth strategy, digital product innovation, and mobile marketing, he has led initiatives at companies like Mood Media and Somerset Entertainment, where he launched award-winning products and forged key partnerships. His clients have included major brands like Uber, Buzzfeed, RBC, and ByteDance, and his work spans the gig economy, fintech, edtech, and D2C sectors.

BIO: Mike Koenigs is a serial entrepreneur with five successful exits, a 19-time bestselling author, and a top strategist for founders post-exit.STORY: Mike invested big in a SaaS startup set up for success, but infighting brought it to its knees.LEARNING: Character is bigger than charisma. “If you're a shareholder, your best exit is for a big company to come and buy what they believe is money at a discount.”Mike Koenigs Guest profileMike Koenigs is a serial entrepreneur with five successful exits, a 19-time bestselling author, and a top strategist for founders post-exit. He helps build powerful personal brands in just one week and pioneers Generative AI for executives, speaking at elite events like Abundance 360, MIT, and Tony Robbins' gatherings.Worst investment everMike learned about a SaaS startup from a client with whom he had spent time and had gotten to know, like, and trust him. So, when the client introduced Mike to this deal, he got interested. The startup looked great, so he invested a substantial amount of money and then doubled down because it got even better.Off to a promising startThe basic premise was that it was a pool. The founders would find SaaS companies with customers, momentum, technology, and a bit of a moat. They had much experience and success, such as a 10x dividend to investors in three years.Infighting paralyzes everythingUnfortunately, the two founders started fighting. One of them locked the other one out of everything. They had the majority and equal shareholding, making infighting even worse. The remaining partner started emptying the coffers.Someone doing the books became a whistleblower and revealed the shenanigans going on. The partner was siphoning off money, building a house, going on big trips, using private jets everywhere, etc. It got uglier and uglier, causing the shareholders to file lawsuits, and the FTC got involved. Years have gone by, and things are still shut down.Lessons learnedTime kills deals.Character is bigger than charisma. Crooked founders will gut you faster than any market downturn.Put all that money into index funds and let it compound.Andrew's takeawaysThe only way to invest as an angel investor is to invest in 10 startups. Don't do it if you are not prepared with the money and time to do that.Actionable adviceUnless you're a full-time VC with deal flow, customer channels, or an exit mapped out, keep your money in things you can control. If you're a shareholder, your best exit is for a big company to come and buy what they believe is money at a discount.Mike's recommendationsMike recommends learning to build a brand that will elevate everything you touch for the rest of your life. He suggests reading his book, Your Next Act: The Six Growth Accelerators for Creating a Business You'll Love for the Rest of Your Life, to help you build your brand. He also recommends immersing yourself in AI and learning how to use it effectively.No.1 goal for the next 12 monthsMike's number one goal for the next 12 months is to become an international citizen. He wants to continue living his beautiful life in multiple locations and working with more entrepreneurs worldwide.Parting words “Go out and build your brand. You will get access to better deals faster at a discounted price.”
Kia ora,Welcome to Monday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.And today we lead with news the hot-war tensions in the Middle East from Israel's attack on Iran has generated substantial financial market reaction. And a 'hot' war between Israel and Iran could go on for a very long time. The first three days may only be the startThe gold price has jumped. The oil price has soared. Equity prices are falling, although the futures market suggests Wall Street may open tomorrow unchanged. Bond yields are up after an earlier risk-aversion fall. The US dollar has been falling but is now in a wavering phase.Coming up this shortened week locally are a first look at May inflation with the selected price indexes, and on Thursday, Q1-2025 GDP. Expect a +0.7% expansion from Q4-2024. And there will be a full dairy auction on Wednesday.Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East will remain in focus next week following Israel's strike on Iran's nuclear facilities, heightening fears of a broader regional conflict. Markets will also be closely watching any progress on trade negotiations between the US and its key partners.Meanwhile, attention shifts to the G7 Summit in Canada, where leaders of the world's largest economies will meet to discuss major global challenges. But one not on the formal agenda is the US's trade war with these allies. Of course it will be a hot topic in non-official discussions. Of special interest will be the meeting between Australia's Albanese and Trump. It's also a busy week for monetary policy decisions. The US Federal Reserve (4.50%), People's Bank of China (LPR 3.0%), Bank of Japan (0.5%), and Bank of England (4.25%) are all expected to keep interest rates unchanged. Decisions are also due from central banks in Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Turkey, Brazil, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Taiwan. On the data front, we get China's industrial production and retail sales, and Japan's trade data.Australia's May labour market data will be updated on Thursday. So a lot to absorb this week irrespective of the uncertainties swirling over the hot wars.Bur first in China, their banks extended ¥620 biln in new yuan loans in May, up from ¥280 bln in April, but that was the lowest level for that month since 2005. Despite the monthly rebound, the May new loan figure was way less than the expected ¥850 bln, and even lower than the ¥950 bln in May 2024. Low interest rates are not encouraging lending. The average rate in May was little-changed at 1.55%.Japanese industrial production also fell in April from March, down -1.1%, but remained +0.5% higher than a year ago.Malaysian retail sales were up +4.7% in April from a year ago, but as good as that sounds it is the weakest year-on-year rise since May 2023. And these gains are before inflation, which is running in Malaysia at only +1.4%.In the US was news American consumer sentiment improved in early June from May in the widely-followed University of Michigan survey which was taken June 2-7, 2025. Although this is the first improvement in the past six months, it is off a record low and is still -11% lower than year-ago levels. This survey pre-dates the current crises. And it predates the widespread (2000+) series of well-attended protest rallies in the US (attended by up to 5 mln people), even in the face of an assassination of one Democrat lawmaker and the attempted assassination of another. Given the Proud Boys Telegram chatter, this isn't so surprising. On the US West Coast, container traffic at the large Los Angeles shipping terminals fell in May. Import traffic was down -19% from April, down -9% from a year ago. Export loadings were down -5% from a year ago. (The Long Beach May data isn't available yet but it is likely to be similar.)North of the border, and perhaps somewhat surprisingly, Canadian vehicle purchases rose in April to 195,700, the highest level since June 2019. Perhaps this is boosted by buyers wanting to avoid tariff-related price hikes. The jump was country-wide and was +11% above the year-ago level.Meanwhile Canadian manufacturing sales fell -2.8% in April, with the tariff impacts starting to be felt. It was down -2.7% from a year ago. Recession risks are rising in Canada.EU industrial production sagged in April from March after a strong March gain, but managed to stay marginally higher than year-ago levels. The EU publishes this data on a volume basis, so this is a 'real' gain. Finally we should probably note that the price of lithium carbonate has now crashed -90% from its giddy height in 2022. It is now back to late 2020 levels before the frenzy. The UST 10yr yield is now at 4.41%, and unchanged from Saturday. The price of gold will start today at US$3,430/oz, and down -US$3 from Saturday but up +US$115 from a week ago. In contrast the silver price at US$36.17/oz is little-changed from a week ago.American oil prices are holding higher, although down -50 USc from Saturday at just on US$73/bbl while the international Brent price is now just under US$74.50/bbl. These are large jumps from a week ago on the war risks. And the full assessment of supply risks are not yet understood, so this price could be volatile this week. The Kiwi dollar is now just under 60.2 USc, down -10 bps from Saturday. Against the Aussie we are unchanged at 92.7 AUc. Against the euro we are down -10 bps at 52.1 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today at over 67.9 and down -20 bps from Saturday (shifted a bit by a fall against the British pound). The bitcoin price starts today at US$105,794 and up +0.6% from Saturday. Volatility over the past 24 hours has been low at just on +/-0.8%.You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.Kia ora. I'm David Chaston. And we will do this again tomorrow.

Have you ever considered running an online contest in Canada, and wanted to know the legal rules around this? Whether it's to get new subscribers to your email list or followers on social media, there can be many good reasons to run an online contest, however most times the focus can be on the marketing end of things, and not the legal rules. In this episode, I share the Competition Act of Canada framework, what to know about social media platform rules, short and long contest rules, winner release forms, the skill testing question, and more. Today you'll hear about:The importance of complying with the Competition Act (Canada) rules and how to get started in doing an online contest How to design a contest with the key aspects of the Competition Act in mind from the startThe second layer of rules that will apply when running a contest on social media from the social media platformsTips and advice for using the winner release form with your contest A few other relevant laws related to contests People can gain many email subscribers and followers from running online contests, so it's not my intent to discourage anyone from doing them, but I hope this helps provide clarity with contests and more understanding on how to do them properly. I encourage you to check out the resources I mentioned below, and I'll see you back here soon with a brand-new episode. In the officeThe workplace is traditionally the place where people have the most affairs, Macleod said. When we go to work in the morning, our makeup and hair is fresh, and we're typically on our best behavior, she explained.2. At the gymWhen you're at the gym, you're already displaying your body: “There's a whole element of physical attraction, availability and accessibility,” Greer explained.3. On social mediaPeople tend to reconnect with old flames via social media, Macleod said, noting that it's easy for them to reminisce about the “good old days,” when they were younger and not bogged down by so many responsibilities. They may start to fantasize with one another what their lives could be like if they had stayed together, which can quickly snowball into a deeper intimacy, she said.4. Through a social circleProximity is key: People often find affair partners through existing social circles, such as a couple they are friends with. That's because they are already close and familiar with those people, Macleod explained.5. At a volunteering gigPeople may bond over a common cause while volunteering, Macleod said. Greer agreed, noting that anytime you're working toward a common cause or objective, you may start to feel a sort of energy that leaves you more vulnerable to this attraction.6. In churchChurch can create a false sense of intimacy between members, or between a leader and a member, Macleod said. People may open up about their marriage problems, looking for comfort, not realizing that others may take advantage of that vulnerability or else develop feelings for that person.AOGhttps://www.facebook.com/wprunier/posts/pfbid0sCoK4Y3SAQ44cdw895UjBL3opfpSgzTL23XR9S1TWsfDKWbqDveEELEysnCP2qBwlHigher Level Customer Service

This is why I'm doing this for myself now and what you can expect from me going forward. As a self-described musical theater nerd to a now award-winning country music artist, Meghan Patrick joins Gary to discuss her journey both as an artist and an individual. Patrick shares how different genres, and life experiences have influenced her path, and a desire always to make time for the important things. In this episode:How Meghan got her startThe dynamics of being in a band Being authentic in the music industryFinding balance as a boss Facing the economic realities of pursuing a career in musicThis episode is sponsored by: Habana CubaAbout Meghan:Gifted, award-winning, chart-topping… cool. There are plenty of apt adjectives that apply to Meghan Patrick. But perhaps the most meaningful descriptor for the acclaimed country singer/songwriter is authentic.Patrick is a musician who always tells it like it is in a voice as gorgeously persuasive as they come. So, when she describes her electrifying third full-length studio album, Heart on My Glass, as “the most ‘me' record I've ever made,” it's a profound statement given the sincerity that has come before. It's also a handy metaphor for summing up the new album's many sonic textures and flavors, some familiar to long-time listeners and others new— blues and gospel, anyone? — but all yanked straight from Patrick's rich reservoir of influences.Funny what a pandemic year spent hunkering down in a town like Nashville will do for your music.“This is a special record for me for a lot of reasons,” Patrick confirms. “I had so much more time over the past year to focus on writing and really being able to dig into what my sound and message should be. This feels like the most all-encompassing representation of me as a writer, an artist, and a human. All the pieces fell into place.”www.GaryScottThomas.com

AJ Saunders, a self-proclaimed SEO geek since 2014 and helps coach e-commerce brands to understand and use SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) to grow their business to 6-figures annually. Having worked on hundreds of business websites across multiple niches and industries, AJ's one big tip is to set measurable KPIs to gauge the health of any online business. Solid SEO is still the best way to bring customers to your website, because it is low-cost lead gen where you own the farm, as opposed to social media platforms, where frankly, you do not. Marketers are looking for shortcuts all the time, they want to be easily found, and they want fast sites and great content. Google is trying to counteract some of these parasites using short-term techniques and methods that don't work long-term. Content should not be written for search engines, but for people. This gave birth to keyword farms and different types of link trees, but it only polluted everything. As far as Google is concerned, people are trying to get into the game instead of making it user-friendly. As long as you're doing good content, improving, and adding value. Have your header set up correctly, tag your images correctly, and have an excellent internal and external link structure, then SEO will work for your business. Measuring KPIs on the page level, and on the domain level, and then zooming out to see how things are going in terms of sales, and in terms of leads captured. You have to understand the health of your website. It's always best to have 2-3 KPIs. It's not just creating the actual content that goes on the page, it's creating the map and the call to action, you really should be telling people what to do next, there should be a flow. There are a lot of companies that say, sign up here to get my newsletter. People already get thousands of emails a day. Articulate the value they will receive, a good example is in the executive coaches' world where they're giving out a lot of great information, or when a company sends out 15% off coupons every once in a while. In both of those cases, the value of what that company or person is giving has already been defined on that same CTA, and you will get some pretty low engagement. Selling an organic search engine optimization service is not as transactional as people may think, there's a lot of groundwork that goes into it. The analysis of how everything is working, changes that will need to be made to make the SEO campaign much more effective, and results, when bringing on a new client, to be able to show them this service works.Much work might be done in the first 30-60 days, but most of the results will take three to six months. Even if you have the best product in the marketplace and the best marketing, this won't matter. Sometimes a client can become unhappy, nervous, or impatient with the results in their given timeframe. Having a strategy and tactics in place to take it step by step by step. The marketplace can take longer to respond. The strategy in place will definitely work, but the timeframe will vary. In this episode:[01:07] SEO is one of the most important aspects to optimize your websiteMaintaining the effectiveness of your business in this industryUnderstanding the fundamentals of how an SEO strategy works[03:14] Marketers are looking for shortcuts all the timeGoogle's mission from the startThe mess behind the scenes when creating an SEO strategy[05:27] How KPIs help you understand the health of your websiteHave a good internal link structure, as well as an external link structureBuild profitable relationships with customers by creating awareness, driving sales, and building customer loyalty
Today's guest on episode 47 is Shay Skinner. Shay came to me with a question for a Q&A episode that I felt was far too intriguing to address in short form. What I've found in four years of running this platform is that it's often easy to find yourself preaching to the choir, in a sense. Perhaps folks are new to some of these methods, but below the surface, most who are successful in their pursuit of financial independence come with some solid ground work already in place. At the foundation is often a supportive family.Shay wrote to me about her history of near financial ruin and eventual bankruptcy. Upon follow-up, it occurred to me that her story was so different from the typical money nerd that I had to have her on. Most importantly, I think her history is far more relatable to many in the general public. Shay did not have a solid support system from her family. In fact, at certain periods members of her family sought to actively undermine her wellbeing. From this stemmed a serious downward spiral in mental health, ultimately culminating in a suicide attempt. But we are not just here to discuss hard-luck stories. What drew me to Shay's narrative is her accountability for an absolutely miserable situation. While she was certainly not to blame for her circumstances, she took a point-forward look at her life. She filed for bankruptcy, and began a slow process of climbing out of debt and using the same old methods of saving and investing to put herself on solid financial footing. This is a story of redemption, and I'm happy to bring it to you today. I want to thank Shay for her willingness to discuss deeply personal and hard topics. Topics Discussed with Shay SkinnerShay's introduction to rock climbing as a positive life forceHow Shay was disowned by her family at age 19, leading to a mental health crisisWhy Shay came to bankruptcy as a clean startThe shame of bankruptcy and the requirements for filingDiscovering a path towards financial independence from a coworkerComparison culture and hidden ways it impacts our spendingShay's psychological struggles with stock market volatilityThe importance of communityMoney relationships with a partnerHow Shay has gone from crushing debt to saving 50% of her income! Why Shay wants financial independence but doesn't want to stop workingWhy women resist early retirement more than menThe importance of discussing moneyThe pros and cons of a college educationSo much more!
