Sinema kulübümüzün 30'uncu buluşmasında yönetmenliğini Richard Linklater'ın yaptığı, başrollerinde Ethan Hawke ve Julie Delpy'nin oynadığı 1995 yılı yapımı Before Sunrise (Gün Doğmadan) adlı filmini konuştuk.Film, Budapeşte'den Paris'e giden bir trende karşılaşan Amerikalı Jesse ile Fransız Céline'in tesadüfi bir kararla Viyana'da inip bir geceyi birlikte geçirmesini anlatıyor. Bir daha karşılaşıp karşılaşmayacaklarını bilmeden, bütün bir gece boyunca şehirde dolaşıyor; aşk, ölüm, inanç, aile, zaman üzerine konuşuyorlar. Senaryo, Linklater'ın 1989'da Philadelphia'da bir oyuncakçıda tanıştığı ve onunla bir geceyi şehirde yürüyerek geçirdiği bir kadından ilham almış; ama asıl yürek burkan detay ise yönetmenin yıllar sonra o kadının daha film gösterime girmeden bir trafik kazasında hayatını kaybettiğini öğrenmesi. Before Sunrise, ardından gelen Before Sunset (2004) ve Before Midnight (2013) ile birlikte, sinemanın en sevilen üçlemelerinden birinin de ilk halkası.Film, kulübümüzde geneli itibarıyla beğeniyle karşılandı. En çok dikkat çeken yönü, diyalogların doğallığı ve iki yabancının birbirine bu kadar açılabilmesinin yarattığı saf, masalsı duyguydu. Bazılarımız için film, hayatta yaşanmış benzer karşılaşmaları, bir yolculukta kurulan beklenmedik dostlukları hatırlattı. The first time Robert Draper heard about the psychedelic drug ibogaine, it was from an unlikely source: the retired U.S. senator Kyrsten Sinema. As a political reporter for The New York Times, Draper often talks to figures like Ms. Sinema. But on this occasion, he said, she wanted to tell him about how she had tried ibogaine, which is illegal in the United States. She'd become such a believer in the drug that she was pushing her home state of Arizona to fund clinical trials for veterans with combat-related trauma. Draper found that Ms. Sinema wasn't the only politician to take up the cause. Rick Perry, the former Texas governor, Republican presidential candidate and Trump energy secretary, has also advocated for research into ibogaine in recent years and taken the drug himself. In 2025, because of Mr. Perry's efforts, Texas became the first state to dedicate public funds to ibogaine research with veterans. Recent studies of ibogaine at Stanford University and elsewhere suggest that it might prove effective in treating post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries, addiction and a range of other conditions. As Draper reported on ibogaine's transformative effects on others, he wondered: Could it help him, too? Sinema kulübümüzün 29'uncu buluşmasında, yönetmenliğini Woody Allen'ın yaptığı, başrollerinde Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams ve Marion Cotillard'ın oynadığı, 2011 yapımı “Paris'te Gece Yarısı” adlı filmi konuştuk.Film, nişanlısının ailesiyle Paris'e gelen senarist ve romancı adayı Gil'in hikayesini anlatıyor. Gil, her gece yarısı gizemli bir biçimde 1920'lerin Paris'ine gidiyor; Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Picasso, Dalí gibi dönemin efsanevi isimleriyle yüz yüze geliyor. Woody Allen'ın En İyi Özgün Senaryo Oscar'ıyla ödüllendirilen bu filmi, geçmişe duyulan özlemin ve "altın çağ" yanılsamasının zarif bir anatomisini sunuyor.Filmi orijinal konusu ve eğlenceli atmosferi ile beğendiğimizi söyleyebilirim. Filmde en çok hissedilen konu olan nostaljiyi konuştuk önce. Kaçınılmaz bir insani duygu mu, yoksa anda kalmaktan bir kaçış mı? Filmde her dönemdeki karakterlerin kendinden önceki çağa özlem duyduklarını izliyoruz. 1920'lerin insanı Bell Époque'a, o dönem de Rönesans'a öykünüyor. Bu kısır döngünün farkına varmak, şimdiyi seçmenin ilk adımı olsa gerek. Filmin sonunda Gil'in yaptığı da bu oldu.İnsanın açmazlarından bir diğeri de, sahip olmadığı şeye özenmesi ya da sahip olduklarının kıymetini bilmemesi. Öte yandan bu dışsal motivasyonların, ihtiyaçlar karşılanır karşılanmaz yerini yenilerine bıraktıklarını biliyoruz. Bu da filmin bize çağrıştırdığı kavramlardan biriydi.Şehirlere yüklediğimiz anlamları konuşurken Paris'i İstanbul ile de kıyaslamadan duramadık ve bu güzel şehri nasıl koruyamadığımıza hayıflandık.En sonda bir hayal sorusu sorduk birbirimize: Geçmişe gidebilseydiniz, kiminle sohbet ederdiniz, kimin sofrasına otururdunuz? Atilla İlhan, Nazım Hikmet, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar gibi isimler geldi. Sinema kulübümüzün 28inci buluşmasında yönetmenliğini Denis Villeneuve'nin yaptığı, başrollerinde Amy Adams ve Jeremy Renner'ın oynadığı 2016 yılı yapımı Arrival, Türkçe adıyla Geliş filmini konuştuk.Film, dünya genelinde 12 farklı noktaya inen gizemli uzay gemilerinin ardından askeri birimler tarafından göreve çağrılan dilbilimci Louise Banks'in hikâyesini anlatıyor. Louise, uzaylıların dilini çözmeye çalışırken hem insanlığın geleceğini hem de kendi varoluşuyla ilgili derin bir gerçeği keşfediyor. Dilin düşünce biçimimizi nasıl şekillendirdiği ve zamanın döngüsel algılanması üzerine kurulu bu bilim kurgu filmi, 2016'nın en çok konuşulan yapımlarından biri oldu.Bu tüm buluşmalarımız için geçerli ama yine de söyleyeyim, filmi henüz izlemediyseniz önce izleyip sonra bizi dinlemenizi öneriyorum, zira bu noktadan sonra ciddi spoiler içeriyor.Filmi etkileyici bulduk; özellikle görsel dil, uzaylı tasarımı ve alışılmış uzay istilası kalıplarını kıran bakış açısını beğendik.Konuşmamızın merkezinde “sonunu bildiğin bir yola girmeyi seçer miydin?” sorusu yer aldı, herkesi en çok bu etkilemiş. Alas, it's up to DOJ to keep those witnesses available to testify, and if DOJ doesn't want to, they'll likely be deported.* The federal charges for anti-ICE activists who are accused of disrupting a Twin Cities church service this past weekend — they were charged under the so-called Klan Act, and the charges were obtained via criminal complaint to a magistrate judge, which means prosecutors will still need to get a grand jury to agree to indict — and prosecutors' failure so far to charge journalist Don Lemon.* The Supreme Court's ongoing effort to carve out the Federal Reserve from its plans to neuter independent boards and commissions (special unique historical tradition etc etc).* And a weird one: former Sen. It's Fun Day Monday on the Majority Report On today's program: U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent tells ABC News that he is a soybean farmer and so he feels the pain of the tariffs as well. Turns out he is just a landlord to $25 million worth of soybean farms. The American Federation of Government Employees is feeling pressure from their members to end the shutdown. In Landover, Maryland furloughed federal workers line up for food assistance in a queue that stretches down the street and around the block. The Trump administration is claiming they do not have authority to fund SNAP amidst the shutdown, which is proven to be a lie. Zohran Mamdani, AOC and Bernie Sanders held a rally in Queens, New York on Sunday Night packing out Forrest Hills Stadium with over 13,000 people. AOC delivers remarks over the immigrants, freeman, and suffragists that built New York and they are the ones that will determine our future. Zohran gives all credit to Bernie Sanders for teaching Zohran the language of democratic Socialism. Emma Vigeland asks Zohran if he believes that a large win in the mayoral race would provide him with leverage with Albany since Hochul is up for reelection in 2026. Hochul speaks at the rally and is drowned out by "Tax the Rich" chants. The next day Hochul claims to have thought the crowd was cheering "Let's Go Bills" In the Fun Half: Another patriot humiliates ICE agents in a beautiful rant after they harassed him at 26 Federal Plaza in New York. Pete Hegseth does not dispute rumors that the Trump Administration is planning on deploying the National Guard in all 50 states in 2026. On Fox News Stephen Miller tells ICE officers that they have federal immunity to do whatever they have to do to perform their duties. Kyrsten Sinema, now a lobbyist for AI, speaks at a planning commission meeting in Chandler, AZ encouraging them to build a data center before the government comes in builds it without their consent.
