Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we start a new series on 2005's Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. We set it in its time, talk about the Clancy of it all, and then get into the play and presentation. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: The first level or two Issues covered: missing a week, games from 2005 and UbiSoft, stealth games and how we feel about them, what it borrows from its forebears, Tim's history and love of military themes, grounding the series in real places, hard milspec, the spectrum of more or less video-gamey, Brett's history with Clancy, offputting tone and writing, the weird nationalistic lens, the military melodrama, when you can mess up the formula, black and white and the icks, systems thinking in the game vs not the narrative, finding ways to maintain the black and white, the tutorial videos, seeing the mechanics against the real missions, controlling Sam's movement speed, other interface choices, alt-fire modes, shooting everyone in the head, having multiple kill moves, having mission objectives that get canceled, whether there's an alternate version, a number associated with your performance, the weirdness of speaking to your handler directly behind a target, your advisors, informing the choice of loadout, how different games reinforce the loadout, a review, Tim's Twitch drop. Frank and Tim crack open some drinks and attempt the noble, impossible task of ranking sci-fi franchises without accidentally starting six different side conversations. Star Wars and Star Trek go straight into S-tier, Dune gets surprisingly close to sacred-text status, and Tim is reminded that he watched Tron: Legacy for the podcast nine years ago and fully forgot. "From my very first memories, I knew that the FBI was chasing us," Zayd Ayers Dohrn says. "My parents tried to explain it in terms [like] we were like Robin Hood or we were like the Rebel Alliance in Star Wars. So I knew in the way a kid knows that our lives were precarious." His mother, Bernardine Dohrn, was a leader of the '60s radical student group Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), which opposed the war in Vietnam and racism. Along with his father, Bill Ayers, she helped found the Weather Underground, a group committed to armed resistance against the government. Dohrn spoke with Terry Gross about his radical childhood on the run, visiting his mom in prison, and the questions he needed to ask his parents. His book is ‘Dangerous, Dirty, Violent, and Young: A Fugitive Family in the Revolutionary Underground.' It's a strange life. Cybernetics, genetics, lasers and all those things... I guess I'll never understand any of that stuff. This week on Film Junk we're looking back at the directorial debut of one Mr. George Lucas, a dystopian sci-fi thriller that feels like it should have a much bigger cult following than it does. THX 1138 was ahead of its time in many ways and still looks visually stunning today. Was this movie simply too bleak for the masses? Does it feel like it was directed by the same guy who made Star Wars? Are the Special Edition changes a problem? Do we all want to live in a future with personal masturbation machines? Take your sedation, buy and be happy with this week's Film Junk Podcast.

Joining Ryan on this sort-of movie tie-in episode of Give Me Those Star Wars is brand new guest Captain Entropy. It's 1986 and the cereal is sugary, the TV knob is warm, and the Saturday morning cartoon wars are officially underway! Shua and Jay travel back to the golden age of animated chaos to decide which network truly ruled the weekend lineup. From Muppet Babies and Real Ghostbusters to Schoolhouse Rock and Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n Wrestling, the guys relive the cartoons, commercials, trivia, and unforgettable memories that made Saturday mornings legendary. Plus, Jay quizzes Shua on Schoolhouse Rock in a battle for educational cartoon supremacy. News Atari has officially acquired the legendary RPG franchise Wizardry, bringing the classic BASIC-coded dungeon crawler under the company's retro gaming banner. Nintendo surprised fans with a special "Star Fox Direct" presentation that officially confirmed a brand-new Star Fox game for the Nintendo Switch 2. Top Gun fans can celebrate the film's 40th anniversary with collectible Maverick and Goose helmet popcorn buckets available during opening showings. Star Tours: Last Launch is an impressive fan-made film packed with love for Disney Parks and Star Wars, including appearances from several franchise legends. Check out our TeePublic store for some enjoyable swag and all the latest fashion trends What we're Enjoying Jay checked out Daredevil: Born Again along with Punisher: One More Kill on Disney+, and found the new season to be a major improvement with smoother storytelling and stronger pacing. The gritty tone was intense and the Punisher special delivered exactly the kind of brutal action fans expect from Frank Castle. Shua sampled the new Firecracker Pop Oreos inspired by the classic red, white, and blue Rocket Pops, and somehow they actually taste remarkably close to the frozen treat. They're sugary, nostalgic, and absolutely worth trying at least once for the novelty alone. Sci-Fi Saturdays - This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay focuses on the 2020 time-loop comedy Palm Springs. He explains how the movie unexpectedly became the perfect film for audiences during the COVID lockdown era, with its themes of repetition, isolation, and emotional burnout resonating in a strangely timely way. He also praises the clever writing from Andy Siara and the direction from Max Barbakow for taking the familiar time-loop concept and making it feel fresh, funny, and surprisingly philosophical. The film balances absurd comedy with meaningful emotional depth, elevating it beyond a typical indie comedy. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. This week he's added some new locations from Daredevil: Born Again season 2. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU. Enjoy Saturdays in 1986! This week, Shua and Jay climb aboard the nostalgia rocket and head straight back to the glorious cartoon battleground of 1986 Saturday mornings. We explore the origins of Saturday morning cartoons from the earliest days of Crusader Rabbit all the way through the animation boom created by Hanna-Barbera and the toy-driven explosion of the 1980s. Then it's time to choose a channel as we break down the legendary 1986 lineups from ABC, CBS, and NBC featuring classics like The Real Ghostbusters, Muppet Babies, The Smurfs, Pound Puppies, Kidd Video, and more. Along the way they relive the cereal-fueled excitement of planning your morning around the TV schedule, revisit the magic of Schoolhouse Rock, and test cartoon knowledge with a hilarious trivia showdown. How did you do on the SHR quiz? What cereal goes well with Kissyfur? Let us know! First person that emails me with the subject line, "Unpack your adjectives" will get a special mention on the show. After a couple years off, we're returning to our annual tradition of each picking a year for our birthdays that we want to review in-depth from a tech and science perspective. Nerdpocalypse dives into what we've been watching! We break down Gary, The Bear's surprise standalone episode that dropped ahead of Season 5. This hour-long flashback follows Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Mikey (Jon Bernthal) on a road trip to Gary, Indiana which was co-written by the actors themselves. We discuss whether this emotional prequel adds depth to the series or just treads water before the finale, the standout performances, and that devastating final act.The Roast of Kevin Hart brought comedy's biggest names to roast the comedian. We analyze the best burns, bad jokes, and audience reactions. Mortal Kombat 2 delivers more fatalities and franchise lore. We review the sequel's action, new character additions, and how it stacks up against the 2021 reboot. We talk a little about Ready or Not 2 which brings back the deadly game of hide-and-seek and the return of the original's dark humor and brutality.Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) returns in Punisher: One Last Kill on Disney+, which Bernthal co-wrote. We discuss Frank Castle's character reset of sorts, how it compares to the Netflix series and his cameos in Daredevil, and whether Marvel gave The Punisher a proper special presentation. The Nerdpocalypse is a weekly podcast covering the latest movie news, TV show news, trailer reactions, and pop culture commentary. FOLLOW THE NEW TIKTOK- @thegoodbrothersshoow As I was editing this episode I came to to conclusion we might need to make a banned topic list because we really talk about Nintendo too dang much. We probably should put Avatar on that list. Survivor, Star Wars, etc. That's a topic for a different day. The back half of the episode is us discussing the Netflix is a Joke festival. Specifically a group photo taken in Ted Sarandos back yard featuring over 100 comedians. You might want to take a look at the picture before we get to that part to give you a better visual.
