Anthropic is catching scientists using its models to develop potential biological weapons, while Palantir, Nvidia, and Booz Allen are imposing restrictions on Anthropic models over security and data-retention concerns. Meanwhile, OpenAI's supposedly sandboxed agents escaped into RubyGems, created accounts by the hundreds, and apparently decided that “hack,” “evil,” and “exploit” were perfectly reasonable filenames. New episode out now! We take a semi-detour to a galaxy far, far away with the season three episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, “Sphere of Influence”. We debate the role of the Jedi within the Republic and talk about how they serve as diplomats, law enforcement, security, advisors, monks, or investigators whenever the need arises. We discuss how this show is for children and therefore the “mystery” is highly simplified, think the tone can swing wildly between Saturday Morning Cartoon and complicated political intrigue, pick apart the sequel trilogy at length, and are mildly amused by the George Lucas self-insert character. We also talk about bonkers Star Wars nomenclature, think it is interesting that this episode dealt with the blocking of trade routes and frustration with a slow democratic process, and lament the oversaturation and corporatization of Star Wars media as a whole. Katy forgot about LEGOs, Carrie is haunted by images of dismemberment, Maddy has a skeleton friend, and Mack does a lot of explaining (and justifying). We also are very confused by the abundance of mismatched accents, touch on the topic of gender in a galaxy full of different alien species, discuss how sci-fi / fantasy mysteries are harder to judge as they have different rules, and Mack runs a mini-game where we try to differentiate between real and fake character names. Every home has one: the collection. Maybe it's Star Wars action figures still sealed in their packaging. Maybe it's comic books, stamps, ceramic knickknacks, or twelve bins of stuffed animals from 1987. And maybe — if we're being honest — it's taking up more real estate in the garage than anyone in the family is comfortable with. In this episode of Clutter Free Academy, Kathi Lipp and Tonya Kubo continue their conversation about what happens when a collector and a clutter-free person share a home. Tonya opens up about the ten-plus year journey she and her husband Brian have walked — starting with the moment she stopped focusing on his stuff and started dealing with her own, and how seven boxes leaving the garage changed everything. Why Focusing on Their Stuff Never Works Kathi and Tonya have given the same advice for over a decade, and they're not backing off it now: as long as you're focused on someone else's clutter, you will struggle to make progress on your own. But here's the encouraging part — when you do your own work, you often create the safety and the space for the people you love to start making their own decisions. Not as a manipulation tactic. As a byproduct. Living Collections vs. Dead Collections One of the most freeing ideas in this episode is Kathi's distinction between collections that are alive and collections that are, well, not. A living collection gets displayed, dusted, talked about, handed to a kid whose face lights up. A dead collection sits in a cardboard box in the garage getting eaten by mold, bugs, and water damage. As Kathi puts it, if the thing you love is in a box in the garage, she has questions about that love.
