"Americans have a long history of taking British things and ballsing them up. They took football and added helmets and cheerleaders; they took ice lollies and called them popsicles; and they took James Corden and then sent him back here."Among Ashley's more unusual hyperfixations is a life-long love of professional wrestling. This special interest was first developed on Saturday afternoons at his grandparents' house watching Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks and Kendo Nagasaki. It continued through the 1980s when Britain was invaded by Hulk Hogan and his colleagues from the then WWF (before they lost a court case to the World Wildlife Fund), and Ashley was fortunate enough to be in attendance at the legendary Summerslam show at Wembley Stadium in 1992, which so many British wrestlers have cited as the day that cemented their love of the grunt and grapple business. This undeniably extraordinary spectacle is sometimes called ‘sports entertainment' - for many people it is neither! When Ashley Blaker was diagnosed with autism and ADHD, one of the most significant aspects of his diagnosis is his propensity for hyperfixation in special interests, which he now realises has entirely shaped his past and which he uses to mine comedy for this new series. It's no exaggeration to say Ashley's life has been driven by obsessions. He has variously been a schoolboy with a love of Star Wars and Doctor Who, a wannabe comedian who performed on the London comedy circuit at 16, a trivia nerd who appeared on University Challenge, a history PhD candidate at Cambridge, a BBC producer of hit comedy shows including Little Britain, a fanatical football fan who saw Liverpool play across England and Europe, a strictly Orthodox Jew who went to synagogue three times a day for over ten years, a father of six, and latterly, a heavily tattooed renegade in hiding from his former community. In this series, Ashley takes a comedic look at each of his obsessions in turn, merging personal memoir with a delve into subjects which have yet to be covered in stand-up comedy shows. The result is a series which, while based on the broader topic of neurodiversity, covers it with the lightest of touches and is focused more on Ashley's individual hyperfixations, lifting the lid on many of the different worlds he's inhabited.Written and performed by Ashley Blaker co-starring Rosie Holt and Kieran HodgsonScript Editor: Steve Hall Recording engineers: Jerry Peal and Jon Calver Producer: Steve Doherty A Giddy Goat production for BBC Radio 4

Sometimes you just stumble across someone's social media and are like "I want to talk to them on the podcast". Today, that someone is Catrina Dennis, aka OhCatrina, on their socials. Catrina joins me to talk about a number of fandom topics! We kick things off by talking about Star Wars - but, this time is unlike any other. As we start with their daily post asking for an Asajj Ventress show. Catrina and I talk about this character that has seen growth across multiple shows and even appeared in books and video games. You'll learn why Catrina likes the character, and what a show would look like to them. Plus, we do talk about the Star Wars fandom - from shows to movies, and points in between. From there, we're talking about growing up in fandom. Catrina's family growing up were in several fandom spaces, and so Catrina gravitated towards some of those shows and movies. We talk about the influence the fandom space had on them growing up, and how the love of fandom led Catrina to work in the fandom spaces. Catrina fills us in on the behind the scenes work of being a social media manager for quite some time, and shares work stories too. Catrina also talks about tabletop roleplaying games. I get to find out what kind of games and dice they sling. What stories and characters they're drawn to, and playing on streamed games as well as some games at the table. Plus, we're talking about the cosmetic business they just launched a few months ago, Side Quest Cosmetics. We get into the how's, the why's, and what you can expect from them now and in the future. Hayden Christensen on stage during his panel at Comicpalooza 2025 in Houston, TX. Comicpalooza 2025 is officially wrapped up, and it was quite the weekend! In this episode, I share a full recap of my time at Houston's premier pop-culture event, filled with panels, autographs, and plenty of memorable moments. Things kicked off strong on Friday with an excellent panel featuring Hayden Christensen, where fans got a chance to hear directly from the Star Wars star about his experiences. The excitement ramped up even further on Saturday, which turned into a packed day with amazing panels featuring both Adam Savage and Patton Oswalt. Their insights and stories were highlights, making the sessions engaging and entertaining. Adding to Saturday's excitement, I was joined by my kids, Jack and Elizabeth, turning it into a fantastic family outing. Elizabeth had her heart set on getting autographs from two specific celebrities—Cheech Marin and Alan Tudyk. We managed to secure Cheech's autograph without any trouble, but the line for Alan Tudyk was overwhelming, leading us to postpone that task until Sunday. Returning on Sunday, I successfully snagged Alan Tudyk's autograph, fulfilling Elizabeth's wish and rounding out our autograph collection perfectly. The day wrapped up with stellar panels featuring Ming-Na Wen and Temuera Morrison, both of whom delivered engaging discussions and plenty of entertaining anecdotes. Highs and Lows? Later in the episode, Caroline and I dive into a thoughtful conversation about the event's overall celebrity guest lineup. We discuss whether Comicpalooza should expand their roster to better compete with bigger conventions found in nearby cities like Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and New Orleans, which tend to offer more extensive and diverse celebrity slates. We weigh the pros and cons, discussing what makes these events successful and appealing. Despite these discussions about potential improvements, my overall experience at Comicpalooza was genuinely positive. It provided plenty of fun, memorable experiences, and quality time spent with family. Listen to this episode to get all the detailed stories, insights, and our personal takes on the weekend's standout moments! Dates: June 20-22, 2025 Location: George R. Howdy, spacefarers — and thank you for tuning in to another episode of the Re-Watch Podcast! Today's show is extra special because I'm joined by my friend Joe, an avid comic book reader, collector, and all-around pop culture expert.I first noticed Joe's impressive Marvel collection at the office — featuring Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and Doctor Doom. He's also a seasoned convention-goer with autographs from the legendary actors behind Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and R2-D2.There's plenty of crossover in our fandoms, and today, I introduced Joe to Andor — what many fans consider the best Star Wars series Disney has produced. While Andor Season 2 has just debuted, we kicked things off with the very first episode of Season 1.Like me, Joe ranks Rogue One as one of the finest Star Wars films ever made. I've long argued that while Solo was the Star Wars movie no one asked for, Andor is the show we didn't know we desperately needed. Season 1 shattered expectations — and we're all eager to see how Season 2 measures up.Tune in as Joe shares his Star Wars knowledge, comic book adventures, and convention stories — and I make the case for why Andor deserves his full attention.

In this episode of Hangin' at the Hangar Bar, Scott and Candice get personal—and a little generational. From late-bloomer Disney Adult origin stories to Sunday nights with The Wonderful World of Disney, they explore how Disney fandom has evolved (and exploded) across Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z.This one's got everything: VHS tapes, spring roll cart loyalty, Disney Channel deep cuts, Splash Mountain discourse, park rituals, Instagram snacks, and that one time the Country Bears caused memory loss. Along the way, they reflect on how each generation experiences the parks, what we value, and how fandom culture has shifted with tech, expectations, and churro-induced outrage.

Our name, is the TV/Movie Rewind Podcast. As night falls on Matt & Todd, they find themselves drawn into the gothic madness of Dark Shadows. Dark Shadows is a show born from the literal dream of Dan Curtis in 1966, fleshed out by writer Art Wallace, and brought to moody life by directors Lela Swift, John Sedwick, and Henry Kaplan.Set designer Sy Thomasoff, composer Robert Cobert, and writers Sam Hall and Ron Sproat helped build what would, by 1968, become a cultural phenomenon—an unlikely soap that reshaped supernatural storytelling for generations, airing on June 27, 1966 on ABC until April 2, 1971.For horror fans today, Dark Shadows is a cornerstone. It carved a path for everything from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel to True Blood and Anne Rice, maybe this. What begins as a tale of mysterious genetics and brooding intrigue spirals quickly into the story of a tortured vampire thrust into increasingly deranged predicaments. We're talking soap opera insanity: At one point remorseful vampire astral-projects through time to defeat the mute ghost of a warlock… but instead helps him (with help from another warlock…) fight a phoenix that said warlock (the future-ghost one) accidentally created… this runs afoul of the plans of the witch (who created the vampire). That's before fancy-knifed assassins, magic severed hands, a werewolf curse, yet another even more powerful warlock show up, and 400 more episodes before the narrative ends abruptly. It's homage. It's theft. It's divine melodrama. And it's also… 1,225 episodes. Not every one is a masterpiece. Pacing? Glacial. Takes? Singular. Flubs? Frequent. Stone walls? Rattling. Bats? Unapologetically rubber. No blood, the violence is rather tame, but if you can get ‘into it' there is so much fun to be had here.As essential to genre history as Dracula, Star Wars, or Star Trek, Dark Shadows is a wild, shadowy ride. This is best enjoyed with someone who's ready to lean into the madness.Dark Shadows stars (for the most part):Alexandra Moltke (Isles) as Victoria WintersJonathan Frid as Barnabas CollinsDavid Selby as Quentin CollinsLara Parker as Angelique BouchardJoan Bennett as Elizabeth Collins-StoddardLouis Edmonds as Roger CollinsNancy Barrett as Carolyn Collins-StoddardDavid Henesy as David CollinsKathryn Leigh Scott as Maggie EvansJohn Karlen as Willy LoomisThayer David as … we'll go with “Stokes”Grayson Hall as Julia HoffmanJoel Crothers as poor, poor Joe HaskellDark Shadows is a Dan Curtis Production.Find and reach out to Matt on: Bluesky: @MovieMattSirois.bsky.socialLetterboxdFacebook: Movie Asylum of the Weird, Bad and Wonderful.Follow who we follow:Once Upon a Geek and  The Fade Out Podcast

He became an international star after playing Frodo Baggins in the acclaimed “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. He's Elijah Wood, and his extensive filmography now includes “Bookworm,” an intriguing film about a 12-year-old named Mildred whose life is turned upside down when her mother lands in hospital and estranged, American magician father, Strawn Wise, played by Elijah Wood, comes to look after her. Hoping to entertain the bookish tween, Strawn takes Mildred camping in the notoriously rugged New Zealand wilderness, and the pair embark on the ultimate test of family bonding — a quest to find the mythological beast known as the Canterbury Panther. Then, we spend time with Gabrielle Drolet, a journalist, essayist, and cartoonist based in Montreal. She regularly contributes cartoons to The New Yorker and the Globe and Mail and is the first woman to receive a National Newspaper Award nomination for Editorial Cartooning. In 2020, she developed a condition that made her unable to use her hands. It only worsened over time, and as a writer and artist, she had to learn new ways of creating and expressing herself. She placed her first cartoon in The New Yorker—and then was unable to draw for a full year. She has since found ways around this using graphic design software, exercises, and many, many breaks, but the experience has completely changed her life. She writes about her experiences in her new book, “Look Ma, No Hands: A Chronic Pain Memoir,” an often funny but profound book on chronic pain, accessibility, and young adulthood.

In THIS episode of Who Would Win: UNLEASHED, it's the ultimate clash of pop-culture legends as the immortal icon of professional wrestling, Hulk Hogan (championed by James Gavsie), steps into the ring against the towering Wookiee warrior from a galaxy far, far away—Chewbacca (unleashed by Eric Holmes)! On one side: Hulk Hogan. The most electrifying, larger-than-life persona in wrestling history. Hulkamania isn't just a catchphrase—it's a philosophy of power, showmanship, and unbreakable will. From slamming giants like Andre the Giant to surviving chair shots, steel cages, and betrayal in the squared circle, Hogan embodies raw charisma and old-school toughness. He's got the 24-inch pythons, the legendary leg drop, and the endless energy to rally a crowd of millions. When the Hulkster says his prayers and eats his vitamins, nothing can stop him, brother. But facing him? An interstellar titan with centuries of battle behind him. Chewbacca. The loyal co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon. A seven-foot-tall walking carpet with strength that can rip a droid in half and a temper to match. He's wrestled Trandoshans bare-handed, piloted through asteroid fields, and survived Imperial torture. With his bowcaster in hand, he can drop stormtroopers with explosive bolts, but even unarmed, he's a feral brawler who fights with claws, teeth, and sheer fury. He's not just Han Solo's sidekick—he's a living legend of the Rebellion. Will Hulk Hogan's show-stopping charisma, veteran ring psychology, and never-say-die spirit let him slam a Wookiee in the middle of the ring for the three-count? Or will Chewbacca's brute strength, combat cunning, and unstoppable fury turn the squared circle into Hogan's worst nightmare?Join hosts James Gavsie and Eric Holmes as they go full main-event hype breaking down wrestling legend, Star Wars lore, close-quarters combat, and every legendary moment these two icons have ever delivered. Will the power of Hulkamania prevail? Or will Chewie prove that it's not wise to upset a Wookiee?Strap in—this is Who Would Win: UNLEASHED at its wildest.
