Politically motivated philanthropy can influence who gets hired, who is awarded tenure/promoted, and what is taught/researched. Subject-matter priorities include promoting the primacy of free-market capitalism and safeguarding the ethic of American Exceptionalism. Recent efforts have focused on restricting teaching the legacy of racism in America, including rejecting Critical Race Theory as a legitimate framework for interpreting U.S. history. Thankfully, academics across the country are responding to these pernicious activities. We feature two of those colleagues in today's program--ISAAC KAMOLA, Trinity College, and BETHANY LETIECQ, George Mason University. Kamola's recent article in Inside Higher Education, "Where Does the Bizarre Hysteria About CRT Come From? Follow the Money!," has received nationwide acclaim. Kamola's new book (out in November), "Free Speech and Koch Money: Manufacturing a Campus Culture War" (with Ralph Wilson), examines how the Koch donor network funds the student groups, campus provocateurs, think tanks, litigation organizations, and the right-wing media outlets responsible for manufacturing the so-called ‘campus free speech crisis.' Letiecq is a faculty activist at one of America's most infiltrated universities. She serves on the GMU Faculty Senate and is president of the campus chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). In her GMU-AAUP role, she partnered with student leaders and worked to expose undue donor influence at GMU, and she has also challenged the privatization of presidential searches and working conditions of contracted workers during COVID. Letiecq wrote about GMU and donor influence in "George Mason University's Donor Problem and the Fight for Transparency," which was published in AAUP's Academe. Today our guest is Scott Shute, head of mindfulness and compassion, at LinkedIn. Scott is the author of, The Full Body Yes. Scott's vision is to change work from the inside out, and his mission is to mainstream mindfulness and operationalize compassion for the 3.3 billion workers in the world.  In this episode, you will discover the mindset and practices of companies that are 14 times more profitable than the standard S&P average, by spreading mindfulness and compassion at work.  What is Compassion and Where Does a Lack of Compassion Come From?Compassion is awareness of others, a mindset of wishing the best for them, and then the courage to take action. The antonym of compassion is your inner critic. We allow our inner critic to run rampant inside our heads, triggering our fight or flight response. Our amygdala, formerly used to ignite that fight or flight response that kept us safe from predators, is now used in less extreme situations. Today, this response might go off during times when our kids are arguing in the next room while we are on a Zoom call.  Our inner critic is driven by fear. Our inner critic focuses 99% of our energy on the 1% of our life that is hard or wrong. Scott calls this pothole management. There could be 1000 miles of perfect road and one pothole, and we will spend 99% of our time concerned about that one pothole. Because of our inner critic, we don't spend any of our time on the 999 miles of perfect road. A Compassionate Leadership MindsetThe most important asset we have is our people. What we know is when our people are at their best, the company is going to be at its best. Thinking you need to project confidence and be feared by your employees is outdated - and ineffective - thinking. Inside this old approach, leaders told their employees what to do, and their employees did what was said without questioning it in fear of getting replaced.  That world is gone. The power has shifted from the company and its leaders to the employees. Employees today have more power in where they work, and who they work for, more than ever before. The best people write their own tickets to the best companies. If you want to be successful as a leader, you must treat your employees as the most valuable resource you have. Compassionate Leaders Focus on Authenticity - Be HumanPeople don't want to work for a robot. Being human allows your employees to see that you are just like them rather than feeling a sense of separation. There is typically a sense of separation where employees can't identify or connect to their leader when the leader is seen as too perfect, or has a facade of perfection. When perfection is presented, employees believe they can not achieve that perfection, leading to despair and defeat. If leaders deeply know themselves, they can then know other people. Compassionate leaders have a mindset of kindness that enables them to wish the best for others. Compassionate Leaders Communicate Clear Purpose & ValuesStrong leaders have a clear purpose, centered values (individually and organizationally), and clear communications-- and they never deviate from that. They repeatedly share where the company and team is going and why it's important. Compassionate Leaders Have the Courage to Take ActionCompassionate leaders have courage to take action for themselves and others. They declare that they are going to do the hard things for themselves, which allows them to then do the hard things for others. Compassionate TeamsIn Google's Project Aristotle, researchers discovered that the number one factor in building a high performance team was psychological safety.

One of the main points that I see people struggle with before they decide to create an online program is thinking that they need to have a big audience before they can sell their program.  They believe that they have no one to sell to and feel unsure on how to approach audience growth. Today I'm talking about how you need to get clear on what you're selling and how you're helping people - before you build an audience. Once you have this clarity, you'll know who your audience is, the content you're going to create for them and can build a strategic marketing plan based on an actual product, not just an idea. Here's what I covered: My experience with building a big email list (and how I discovered they weren't the right audience to purchase my program!) How we strategically pivoted our content plan (to help our audience and also offer our program!) What you need to be clear on before building an audience (so you don't need to guess anymore about what content you're sharing!) How launching and running your online program helps you get even clearer on your ideal audience (as you work with real people in a group setting, you'll continue learning about how to better serve them!) Knowing what you sell before you build your audience will give you the chance to reach the people who are looking for your expertise and support. Building an online program with the right audience allows you to make a big impact, help lots of people with your knowledge and create a better work-life balance for yourself!   If you enjoyed this podcast, you may enjoy these 3 episodes about transitioning your practice online: Ep.28: Where Does an Online Program Fit Into My Practice? Welcome to Mysteries to Die For. I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you at the heart of mystery, murder, and mayhem. Some episodes will be my own stories, others will be classics that helped shape the mystery genre we know today. These are arrangements, which means instead of word-for-word readings, you get a performance meant to be heard. Jack and I perform these live, front to back, no breaks, no fakes, no retakes (unless it's really bad, then he makes me start all over again.) This is Season 1. The first half of the season comes from my book Widow’s Run, which was published in 2019 by Down & Out Books. If you love clever, sharp-edged mysteries and thrillers, check out Down & Out on the web. www.downandoutbooks.com Today’s episode builds from the previous. You have to listen in order for the story to make sense. Start with the episode called “What a Lovely Corpse you Have” and catch up to us from there. We’ll be here for you. We’ve listed a cast of characters in the show notes to help keep track of the players. To recap, our hero, Diamond, has faked her death, burying the mainstream, suburban professional she was to resurrect her CIA cover. Why? She needs to do what the police won’t, investigate her husband’s death. In the last episode, Diamond arrived in Rome, Italy and met with a statuesque woman harboring security footage of that fateful night. Liberating the footage was easy, watching it was another story. Two surprises emerged. First, another nerd-food scientist, Francisco Thelan, died the same night as Gavriil. And, second, before his death, Gavriil had given another woman his room key. Her teenaged cyberlord, Andrew Dixon, unearthed the name and address of the woman suspected of being Gavriil’s lover, Ilsa Duma-whatever. A friend of Gavriil’s sister, Ilsa had shared only books with Gavriil. His notebook had gotten mixed in with her books. When she discovered it two days later, she attempted to return it, only to discover Gavriil had died. With the notebook now in her possession, Diamond turns to the other piece of information Dixon found—the license plate number of the car that killed her husband. Today’s story is about family, the price of secrets, and a business deal gone wrong. This is Episode 7: Where Does an Elephant Hide the Evidence?  ******* Characters with episode of introduction Lead characters: Diamond, our hero. Recently widowed. Recently (fake) killed herself. On a mission. (E1) Gavriil Rubchinsky. Russian-born, nerd scientist specializing in quinoa. Diamond’s husband. Died May 14, 2018. The reason for Diamond. (E1) Ian Black. Average, ordinary, white man. Extraordinary purveyor of anything, anywhere, anytime. (E1) Sam Irish. British agent. Formerly worked with Diamond. Pissed she died without him. (E1) Andrew Dixon. Seventeen-year-old genius delinquent currently surfing Diamond’s couch (E4)  Mystery characters: Enrique Torres. CIA agent who trained and worked with Diamond. Can’t believe a candle took her out. I wanted to take some time to talk about this whole change that we've seen in the economy, our lifestyles and in the way that the world is currently working, from all the way from China through Europe, and right here in North America.  There's a lot of anxiety, there's a lot of fear and that's all natural. It's normal and it's okay to have it. It's about what we choose to do with it. Today, I'm sharing 3 strategies that you can do right now to pivot your practice to continue helping your clients. I talk about how we can choose to look at the extra opportunity that we have to be creative and innovative in the market and continue to show up and support people when they need us most. So many of you have been thinking about creating an online program for a long time - and now you've been given an opportunity to spend time on it.  Here's what I covered: What to do if you're feeling challenged with working and pivoting in your business (Go back to your Why!) The need to revisit your product offer (and pivot it slightly to focus on one offer that's clear for your audience and solves a problem for them!) Targeting the right audience with your offer (and how there are people still prioritizing their spending on health so they can solve their problem once and for all!) What I've observed about some people's spending habits right now (and how they're being effective with their money!) How to think of selling right now (and how selling from a place of service applies all the time!) Strategies to continue getting work done (especially if you have kids!) It's time to have grace, give yourself space and be kind with yourself. Showing up right now will take some commitment. You have something special, creative and innovative so please keep showing up - and more than ever, get that online group program out there. The world needs you. Talking with other health practitioners, professionals and clinicians helps us learn through their stories and experiences - while talking with our audience helps us create a program that fits exactly with their needs. Today we have an amazing guest, Alissa Rumsey, Registered Dietitian and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and founder of Alissa Rumsey Nutrition and Wellness. She shares her business journey, what changed for her when she connected with her audience and how adding an online program has greatly benefited her business. Here's what we talked about: The 2 reasons why Alissa wanted to create an online program (so she could scale and reach a different audience who couldn't afford her one-to-one services!) The clarity that Alissa got from doing market research (it's not worth putting energy and time into creating a program unless you know the market wants it!)  The first online program she created (and the benefits of taking on dietetic interns for support in getting it done!) What she found by running her program with live sessions, instead of doing it as a self-study program (she got amazing feedback since they liked having the support of the group!) What running live events has taught her (especially since she had no prior business training!) One of the biggest things I talk about all the time is how you cannot be perfect. You cannot launch perfectly and you cannot create the perfect ideal program the first time out of the gate... But if you go through the process of doing your market research, listening to your audience and narrowing down your program idea and content, you'll create an online program that can serve exactly what your clients are looking for! About Alissa Alissa Rumsey MS, RD, CDN, CSCS is a New York City-based registered dietitian and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor who is passionate about empowering women to reclaim the space to eat and live unapologetically. The question of, “Where do I even start?” is one of the biggest obstacles and struggles that many health providers have when they want to start an online program - and I don't want it to keep you stuck. Because it is just about getting started.  It is just about taking one step at a time and getting your expertise, your advice, your amazing knowledge up on the internet, and in a group coaching program. Today I'm talking about how to get started and giving you further resources, so you can take the incredible work that you are doing in the health field and increase your support for your clients and your impact on health!  Here's what I talked about: Helping you understand where to start (and taking that first step!) Resources to work through these first steps (including what book I highly recommend!) The 3 questions to ask yourself to get really clear on how to get started (it all starts with Why!) What to think about if there are already online programs in your area of health (reflect on why are people still struggling with that specific health issue!) How to break down the right idea for your first program (which will be for a specific audience with a specific need!) If it is the right time to create your online program, really figure out your why and where you want to go with your business. And don't be afraid to take the steps needed to get it done. If you want your own successful, profitable business, and you don't want to work 50-60 hours a week, then having an online group program is an incredible thing! A question I often get from my peers and clients is about what it's like to transition from a brick and mortar practice to having only an online practice. The short answer: It took time to figure out - but was completely worth it! The long answer is what I give you in today's episode, and describes the road I took to eventually arrive to where I currently am, teaching group programs online and using online methods to market them. That transition to online can feel huge, overwhelming and scary and usually you have no idea how to start. If that's how you're feeling, remember it's because it's something new and we haven't been taught how to run our practice online. Here's what I covered: How I felt when I worked doing one-to-one patient work at a family health team (I didn't think that I was making much impact and wanted to create my own system to help people!) My first business idea was teaching people health through real food in person (I had this giant toolbox for all of my supplies that I would bring to my cooking demos!) Transitioning to my own brick and mortar practice (and what led me to start to work online!) 3 questions to find out if you should transition to online (they're all based around your clients - where are they? how are they learning? and what do they need?) Your marketing strategy can be multi-faceted (so don't give up your connections or assets that you currently have in that transition to online!) Although the transition to online feels difficult at first, be sure to pick something where your clients are showing up and learn, experiment and grow from there to finally create that online program you've been thinking of! Have you ever been thinking about what content you could include in your online program - and you end up feeling completely overwhelmed?   You probably feel like you have a lot of things you want to teach your clients and have a lot of content and concepts that you know can help them. It can feel like a lot! Today, I give you a few tips and strategies that you can use as you're starting to think through your ideas, so you can avoid program content overload.  Here's what I talked about: How every time I ran an online program, it changed (sometimes even right in the middle of the program!) The first thing I advise my clients to do before starting to plan their content (identifying the main problem their client is struggling with will bring a lot of clarity!) Figuring out what problem you're going to solve for your clients (they need your expertise and experience!) The steps for brainstorming your content (it's all about the sticky notes!) My goal is to help you get unstuck and one step closer to developing the online program you've been thinking about! If you've been listening to my podcast for a while, you know I'm a big proponent of growing and scaling your business in a way that is effective with your time.  The beginning of the year is a great time to reflect on your current business model in your practice and review how you're making money, what services you're offering, and how your business model may need to change this year.  Today, I talk about what needs to happen to your business model and give you options to change it so you can leverage your business AND your time. Here's what I covered: The two ways to grow your business (a tip I learned from my mentor years ago!) An alternative way to grow your business (how you can increase your availability by increasing your capacity with a team!) What leveraged offers you can use to grow your health practice (and my experience with each!) I discuss your business model, things to consider, and how you can change it with different products, programs, and services for 2020, so that you can actually grow, make more money, and make a bigger impact  - without more hours of your time. Today, I am grateful to have here with me, Dr. Jeff Matheson, co-founder of an all-natural migraine and headache centre, which promotes a non-narcotic approach to pain and headache management. Plus, Dr. Jeff Matheson is the co-founder and medical director of Pure Life Science.   Dr. Jeff Matheson successfully practiced medicine in emergency departments across Canada and internationally, from Ontario, Newfoundland, and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. He later was appointed Medical Director of Med-EmergInc in 1998, a company dedicated to staffing underserved hospitals in Canada.   Dr. Matheson has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and South East Asia and well as Oceania. According to Dr. Matheson, “traveling is the best education!” Dr. Matheson is an enthusiastic believer, as well as being immersed in other cultures. Similarly, if one does not listen to patients, one won’t hear what is necessary to understand the patient’s problem, i.e., the patient’s “culture.”   It is with this ability to listen and empathize with the patients that Dr. Matheson allows an accurate diagnosis and develop sustainable solutions, optimizing health, and patient outcomes. If a solution cannot be determined, resources will be dedicated, through the involvement of alternative care specialists, ascertaining the best possible treatment for the patient by trying to treat causes, not just manage symptoms.   In this episode, Dr. Matheson opens up the show discussing his introduction to the ketogenic diet and how exactly quality fats will promote health. Dr. Matheson dives deep into the relationship between the cell membrane and our DNA. Plus, he speaks about the troubles of fish oil and why we should never take the supplement. Stay tuned to hear Dr. Matheson reveal other damaging fats for our bodies and all about his Pure Form Omegas.   PureForm Plant Based Omegas: http://bit.ly/2OL0FWU . [05:45] About Dr. Matheson    Matheson realized there was no standardization for pain management in Canada. He created a standardization; now, all pain clinics need to use his system. Matheson had all sorts of pain himself. After trying a specific diet, all of the pain melted away. Then, he started prescribing the diet to his patients, who had similar results. Now, Dr. Matheson wants to introduce people to the proper fats for our bodies. Bad fats can harm you just as much as carbohydrates can.   [11:10] How Quality Fats Promote Health The structure of the cell is based on fat. The cell membrane is a fatty membrane. If you do not have a membrane, then you do not have a cell. If we are putting bad fats in our bodies, then we will have a weak cell membrane. How does the cell membrane interact with the rest of the cell? The mitochondria are also made up of fats – it is loaded with the membrane. Unhealthy cell membranes will result in lethargy.   [13:40] Relationship Between the Cell Membrane and our DNA 25% - 33% of your cell membrane is made up of omega-6. 40% of your mitochondria membrane is made up of omega-6. 100% of your cardiolipin is made up of omega-6. When you keep DNA under repair, you need proper omega-6. Our brains take 20% of our metabolic energy. If our mitochondria have bad fats in them, it can’t produce the energy that the nucleus requires to stay healthy. We are being damaged by radiation, so it requires a lot of energy to keep it repaired. If we can’t keep it repaired, we will run into mutations and possibly cancers.   [16:20] What’s the Issue with Fish Oil? Fish oil became popular when researchers found out Inuit people had low rates of heart disease. They assumed their pristine health was because of eating so much fish. However, the Inuit people didn’t eat that much fish. Their diets consisted mostly of seal, whale, and blubber. Most fish oil studies are not very well done scientifically. Fish oils are way too unstable for humans to be consuming. It is taxing our ability to keep the oil from oxidizing. A majority of the fish oil on the shelves are already oxidized – there is no way that can be healthy for you. It turns out that you only need 4.3 milligrams of DHA a day for a healthy brain. Matheson is amazed at how many punches the human body can take and still function.   [22:10] How to Get DHA Without Fish Oil Most people get enough DHA. DHA can hang around the brain for about 18 months. There isn’t a significant turnover, and we do not need tons of it. You have to have the right fats to make DHA in the first place.   [23:00] Where Does the Fish Oil End Up? The fish oil will get broken down. The body will recognize it as a toxin. Most of the fish oil is artificial, and the body cannot even recognize its chemical makeup. You can decrease the efficiency of mitochondria by introducing DHA.   [28:30] The Most Pristine Fish Oil in the World Your body can get rid of the fish oil pretty fast. If you are on fish oil for a month, do you feel any better on it? If you feel good on the fish oil, then something positive is happening. Fish oil can have a cortisol effect at first. However, it is not a long-term or healthy effect.   [36:40] Damaging Fats Plant oils that are processed and rancid olive oils. When you oxidize an oil, it starts to smell bad. So, the manufactures deodorize the oil. Now, the oil cannot take oxygen. Putting that oil in your cell membrane will result in the Warburg Effect. If you decrease the oxygen in your cells, then they will turn cancerous. 60% of us will get cancer in our lifetime. In the 1900s, it was 3%.   [43:30] About Pure Form Omegas Pure Form is all organized and cold-pressed under a blanket of nitrogen. The oil has not touched oxygen, and every capsule has a bubble in it. We used to eat things straight from the ground. Now, we don’t have a choice anymore. People will feel the difference, and they will feel it quickly.   AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode: Check out Pure Life Science Follow Pure Life Science Facebook Twitter Pinterest Instagram YouTube Email sales@pureformomega.com Call 905-812-8333 Visit the HMC Centre Website Follow Dr. Jeff Matheson LinkedIn Facebook Listen to The Keto Kamp Podcast with Brian Peskin Buy the Pure Form Omegas Learn about Low Carb USA Watch The Truth About Fish Oil & Three Reasons to Avoid It Join the Keto Kamp Academy  WatchKeto Kamp on YouTube  $39 Bottle of Olive Oil for $1.00 Disclaimer: This podcast is for information purposes only. The Economic Value of Certainty, by Les McGuire (Reviewed)

The Money Advantage Podcast

https://youtu.be/IPx67iyWcWY Les McGuire reveals a timeless truth about the economic value of certainty that goes back as far as scripture.  It's that to have the highest chance of flourishing, you need certainty, guarantees, and stability.  In Jesus' parable of the wise and foolish builders, the wise man's house on the solid rock withstood storms.  He was able to go on with life the very next day and continue his livelihood of exchanging in the marketplace.  However, the foolish man's house on the shifting sand “collapsed with a mighty crash.”  He would have had to spend time, money, and energy sorting out the mess, rebuilding, and finding a way to live in the interim. But the storm didn't cause the advantage for the wise man – it just revealed his leverage point.  The wise man's confidence came from certainty in his life. What if there had never been a storm, floodwaters, and winds to test the quality of their workmanship?  Can you imagine the character and mental state of each builder?  The foolish man may have put a brave face on, but he probably would have walked around every day with a subconscious concern that what he had wouldn't last.  There would have been an undercurrent of cowardice and insecurity in all his dealings.  That maybe his shortcuts would be found out.  Meanwhile, the wise man would have had internal confidence that graced his affairs, knowing that he was secure.  He was upright, fair, produced quality work, and probably was highly respected and trusted in his circles.     The Economic Value of Certainty In The Economic Value of Certainty, a thought-provoking masterpiece, Les Guire outlines these truths and calls us to our greatest potential.  While the article is about whole life insurance, it's more about why the certainty it creates is so empowering.  When you have certainty serving as the bedrock of your financial life, you conserve and maximize, rather than waste the precious limited resources in your life. Les is a financial thought leader who died in 2006.  However, his ideas and bold, deep thinking continue to influence the industry.  In today's discussion of this article, we'll give you an internal guidance system to help you think about your financial life in a way that gets the best results across the widest range of circumstances.  You'll expand your vision about your financial objectives and what you want out of life. Where Does the Economic Value of Certainty Fit into the Cash Flow System? Choosing certainty starts in your mindset.  It then helps you select financial products that maximize your resources and help you fulfill your greatest potential. However, certainty is an undercurrent of the bigger journey to time and money freedom.  That's why we have created the 3-step Business Owner's Cash Flow System. It's your roadmap to take you from just surviving, to a life of significance, purpose, and financial freedom. The first stage is the foundation.  You keep more of the money you make by fixing money leaks, becoming more efficient and profitable. Then, you protect your money with insurance and legal protection and Privatized Banking. Finally, you put your money to work, increasing your income with cash-flowing assets. With whole life insurance, especially when used for the Infinite Banking Concept, you can weave certainty into your cash flow system and improve every other area of your financial life. The Economic Value of Certainty Article Highlights Economics is about scarce resources.  Our limited resources extend beyond money, to include many intangibles.  These include assets such as time, effort, focus and attention, hope, faith, love, integrity, desire to contribute and excel, and willingness to take risk.  Les, McGuire Economic “costs”, therefore, are not limited to money, but rather any resource which is under-utilized …Les, McGuire It is entirely possible (and actually quite common) for the disclosed ...

Some of us are afraid of the numbers and we don't look at the spreadsheets. Some of us are not and we look at the spreadsheets.  I know that financials can be an uncomfortable topic, but we have to talk about it. I want to challenge everyone to look at the financials, when you are thinking about the work that you do now and the work that you want to do in the future. This episode is the beginning of a two part series on the numbers, where we're going to dig a little deeper into the money. I share my mat leave story with you and go deep into what those numbers look like to help you take a step back and look at your own ideas for business. Here's what I talked about: The actual process of how I made that much money (and the changes I made when I looked at the numbers!) How many hours I worked that year (it's less than what most people would expect!)  Hiring a dietitian to help with my clients (and what I did when she quit!) Your first step towards outsourcing (you can start with 5 hours a week!) The 3 things you need if you want to work less and make more (it is work to get there, but for me it was work that I loved!) This experience of my first mat leave and seeing what the financials showed me allowed me to change the model of my business forever!    If you enjoyed this podcast, you may enjoy these 3 other podcast episodes about how to start creating a leveraged income: Ep. 03: Where Do I Start?
