Episode 17 – The Real Anniversary Episode Show Notes Welcome to Episode 17! First year of Solo Queue in the books and stumbling into some creative WoW-adjacent media got me thinking about all the value added to WoW by content creators outside of Blizzard. Four Tanks and a Healer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A47d3fjDNSQ Stormwind University: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sgpgEy-UW8 Karazhan Library: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkDNwkGDS84 “What have you done lately?” – 16:52 Trivia is now 42 characters every day – the end is in sight, January 7 For max leveling efficiency, that meant getting 5 characters to 80 I made my 2 Earthen characters Monthly inventory for first time in 3 months Sporadically getting weekly meta quests done to keep gearing the 5 level 80s Addon Recommendation: Altoholic – 25:39 Tracks gold, levels, achievements, time played, and many more bits of individual character info account-wide, server by server, faction by faction. …and Siren Isle – 27:03 Yes, it feels a lot like 10.0.7, but it is kind of different Gameplay is…fine; better than the alternative of nothing until 11.1 Story is hard to take in, maybe just for me? News – 46:34 Still 2 story questlines to come in 11.0.7, Dalaran epilogue and Lingering Shadows Turbulent Timeways coming January 7 – 5 weeks of timewalking New game modes coming to the Character select screen? Might it be… Plunderstorm returns January 14 with less demanding reward system, new rewards, same battlefield And two holidays are wrapping up next week, Anniversary event January 7 and Winter Veil January 5! Winter Veil in your Garrison! – 56:36 The second-best place to celebrate Winter Veil is in your WoD Garrison, which naturally gets decorations and there are WV dailies to add more decorations. If you haven't done it, why not now? I did, during the recording. And, I've been thinking about WoD lately, which had its 10th anniversary in November. 2025 is my 10th anniversary in WoW. Throughout the coming year, I am going to go through some of the highlights of this much-maligned expansion to show what is still enjoyable, including featuring the 3 WoD raids in Raid of the Month throughout the year. Raid of the Month: Antorus (Legion) – 1:12:02 Speaking of RotM, we visit the final raid of Legion, Antorus, the Burning Throne and see where that giant sword came from. Is it worth it? Lots of running around, Eonar a slow encounter, but if you want the 2 mounts and various transmog, then yes, get in there, at least a few times. Did I get any mounts? Listen to find out – no spoilers! Also a plug for the website simplearmory.com – check it out to see all of your collectable items, along with a planner to go hunt them all down! Drink of the Month – 1:30:20 All that raiding has me thirsty for Dwarven Mead and Greatfather's Winter Ale at the Stonefire Tavern in Ironforge, in sight of Greatfather Winter himself! Main Topic: Yep, more Winter Veil, including *SPOILERS* presents opened! – 1:31:50 We head across the molten channel in Ironforge to check out Winter Veil activities, including a ride out to kill the Greench, unwrapping the 2024 presents live, and sharing my Winter Veil wish list, now for 2025. Plans for 2025 and gratitude for the influences that led me to SQ – 1:41:18 SQ plans for the coming year, a Season 2, if you will. Biggest is the goal of two episodes each month, a traditional (and shorter) episode, and a second episode of various formats, including interviews, single topic deep dives, or overflow topics for the month. I want to close this episode with gratitude for my sources of inspiration for Solo Queue including traditional radio, some Blizzard podcasts no longer with us, and many that are. Thank you, fellow podcasters! Honored to be among your ranks. Solo Queue Mailbox – 2:04:16 The second and third reviews on Apple Podcasts from Mr Rascolwitz and Cyn (psmst1). #grateful Truly, thanks for a great first year of Solo Queue! Send us a textFor this edition of Brewstilled, it's a recap of Week 15 for the 2024 NFL Season and for the House of the Lombardi. In week 15, the month of December lived up to its reputation with the Lombardi teams fighting on regardless of where their season stands. The Ravens won their game against the Giants and with the Pittsburgh loss, the Ravens are now one game behind from winning the AFC North. The Jets and the Jaguars faced off in a competitive game although both teams have no chance of making the playoffs. The Cowboys defeated the Panthers as the Cowboys players try to save Mike McCarthy's job as head coach for the Cowboys. Tampa Bay and the Chargers played each other in a big win for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Tampa Bay maintains their hold on the NFC South. For the Chargers, it's their second loss in a row. Can the Chargers maintain their playoff momentum? In a close and hard fight game, the Detroit Lions lost to the Buffalo Bills in a game that could have been a Super Bowl preview game. Yet, the Lions made some key mistakes and suffered some more injuries while their defense gave up a lot of points. Will all of this come back to haunt Detroit? All this and more will be discussed here on Brewstilled with a Winter Ale from Einstök Brewing as the beer pairing.

It's a recap of week 14 of the 2022 NFL season here on Brewstilled. Week 14 of the NFL season was one with wild overtime victories and wins by teams looking to make a playoff push. The Vikings overcame the Colts in an historic come from behind victory in a game that went into overtime. The Bengals showed they're a team that could indeed win the AFC conference over the Chiefs and The Buffalo Bills. The Dallas Cowboys and The Philadelphia Eagles engaged in war of word as they will face off against one another on Christmas Eve. Yet, The Cowboys lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Does this loss mean trouble for the Cowboys? All this and more will be discussed on Brewstilled with a Winter Ale from 21st Amendment Brewing as the beer pairing.
It's the most wonderful time to drink beer... Winter beers are the best beers. I know it, you know it, we all know it. Our holiday beer blind tasting has become a tradition. Last year our friends from Rainy Day Brewing joined us for the tasting. They commented that you know it's getting bad when they have to "Call in the Jews" for a Christmas beer tasting. We liked their style so we rolled with that this year for the 2nd Annual Interfaith Holiday Craft Beer Spectacular, cause we're inclusive like that. Rules are the same as always. Blind taste the beer and pick your favorite. Simple. At the end of the show we tally everyone's favorites for an overall Top 3. This year's holiday beers included... Abita Christmas Ale St. Bernardus Christmas Ale Highland Cold Mountain Bold Monk Leon Anchor Christmas Ale Shiner Cheer Rogue Santa's Private Reserve Delirium Noel N'ice Chouffe Bell's Christmas Ale Southern Tier 2XMAS Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Sierra Nevada Celebration 21st Amendment Fireside Chat I'm gonna be straight with you here. Overall, this year's offerings didn't seem to meet the mark we expect of many of these beers. We've had many of these before and had high expectations. However, there are a few standouts and you'll no doubt have some good selections to enjoy through the holidays. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, and we hope you enjoy any other holiday you celebrate. Cheers! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dana discovered a Cookie Butter Pie. We both love the Biscoff cookies we get on airplanes. He found it through social media. Cookie Butter Pie Video is available on TikTok at the following link: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTR4gfyFG/ This recipe did not disappoint. If you are a fan of those cookies… make this dessert! It was the sleeper hit of Thanksgiving with our family, and now they want it at Christmas too! Here are the ingredients we used (These are Amazon affiliate links. We are fans of winter brews, and new owner Alex Tatko created a tasty Winter Ale for us to try this week. Holiday spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and subtle notes of orange zest, molasses, and vanilla? Yes, please. Thanks, Alex! It is a mighty tasty way to get us into the holiday spirit. This week on the second biggest podcast in the Pacific Northwest, we welcome Elizabeth and Jessica from Foray Business Group. We thought that Liz's full time job was following us at Business Over Beer. It turns out that a year ago she started this wonderful firm with her business partner offering Accounting, Advising and Bookkeeping services. They focus solely on small businesses so the small businesses can focus on succeeding at what they do best. Guest Beer: Ace Premium Craft Ciders - Sebastopol, CA Hazy Hop, 6% ABV Oft thought to be polarizing quaffs, many of us enjoy both cider and beer. Introduced at the intersection of bitter and sweet, this is an unfiltered dry cider with Mosaic Hops, making for a juicy and tropical concert featuring fruit and flower. Angie's Mystery Beer: Fremont Brewing - Seattle, WA Imperial Winter Ale, 8% ABV, 60 IBU This is a tasty Winter Ale to snuggle up to, released for the winter months when snow blankets the terrain of the mind and the body craves warmth and, let’s be honest, it’s dark and wet most of the time so your beer better be damn good. Winter Ale is dark like the weather with roast chocolate and warm malt flavors balanced by Noble hop aroma and subtle hoppy spice. Warm up to it. Because Beer Matters! Sampling a dozen Christmas beers as we talk holiday beer history and traditions Christmas is a wonderful time for beers. As the temperatures dip brewers release a variety of spiced stouts, piney IPAs, and Belgium sends out some amazing offerings. This is definitely one of our favorite episodes we do each year. The premise is pretty simple, we sample a dozen Christmas beers and pick our favorites. Along the way we discuss some of the history and traditions of holiday brews, share what we like to see in a Christmas beer, and learn about a 12th century law that required households to brew a beer for Christmas. (Credit to larsblog for the story on 12th century Norwegian brewing laws.) Sampling through all these brews in an hour is a bit of a task for two people so we invited our friend Brij Patel from Sprayberry Bottle Shop to help us out. Sprayberry offers an awesome selection of craft beer, whiskeys, and wine and has placed in our Best of Georgia Beer competition every year. If you're near Marietta, GA make sure to stop in and check them out. Because Brian struggles with counting while sober our 12 Beers of Christmas became 13, which we found out as we got the bottles together for the last round of tasting. Way to go, Brian. Machine learning is quite a hot-topic of research right now, with many different offshoots linking it to other fields of research. Scott Cambo, today's guest, studies the intersection of machine learning and human-computer interaction. In particular, he's interested in how mobile self-tracking (think FitBit) user design can increase healthy behaviors and how those apps can use better machine learning algorithms to provide more useful feedback. Right from the start, Greg is half kicked in the ass. Jen? “Ehhhhh…I’d say about 40%” The beers: To start, we share a Lagunita’s Hop Stoopid bomber. (“A bawmuh, kid. Like it’s owuh jawb.”) Then, Jen has a Southern Tier Gemini and Greg, Ommegang Three Philosophers. There was also a Sam Smith’s Winter Ale in there somewhere. Lots of beer. “Well, we’re anticipating a 40 – 50% chance of kicked-in-the-ass. Back to you, Ron.” The topics: We start with gratitude. And whiskey. (Yep. After all that beer.) We open a gifted bottle of Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection 1838 Style White Corn Bourbon. This is a mash bill that would have been used through the infancy of the state of Kentucky, just after our yinzer forefathers moved from Western PA to the newly minted “Kentucky,” when Thomas Jefferson offered, in essence, the very first corn subsidy. 1838 is the year Woodford Reserve erected its first distillery, and indeed it is the oldest distillery in the state of Kentucky. And holy shit is this bourbon good. Triple distilled in a copper pot still, 45.2% alcohol by volume (90.4 proof). The mash bill is the same as the typical Woodford Reserve expression, just with the white corn that pays homage to originators and innovators, Dr. James Crow and Oscar Pepper: 72% corn, 18% rye, 10% malted barley. (Today’s bourbons use yellow corn which is cheaper and more ubiquitous. In the late 1700’s and 1800’s, and indeed in 1838, white corn would have been the grain used by Pepper and Crow.) We dream of hiking mid-winter through snowy forests (…Cook Forest to be precise…), breathing the clean, crisp air that seems to alleviate allergies and chest colds, with flasks of high proof spirits. Specifically, one flask with this very bourbon and another with Wigle Landlocked Spiced and Oaked…which is akin to rum except using Pennsylvania buckwheat honey instead of sugar or molassas, then spiced with a giant tea bag of sorts, then aged in used whiskey barrels. Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it. Kate licks her coot-coot, which transitions us into our second topic: New Year’s Resolutions. The resolution that Greg eventually stated in last weekend’s post, “Driven to Resolution (2015),” was not his initial resolution. Here you’ll hear the initial musings of what would have been a self-serving, shitty resolution that placed Greg firmly in that false, judgmental position of superiority that he seeks to extinguish. “You need to have more acceptance.” That’s literally what she (Jen) said. Acceptance. To not only strive toward breaking free of fear and judgment but to also acknowledge and accept oneself, and others. Jen’s personal goals, as gleaned from the conversation: To improve myself, to stop feeling like a victim, to bounce back, to empower myself and take control of my life, take control of my health, be more patient and accepting, to cherish the good things, be more present, and celebrate all that’s positive. Big stuff. Good stuff. Doable stuff. Musically, you’ll note a “Thank You” sandwich, with Led Zeppelin up front and Dido at the close. Not Dildo. Dido. Thank you. We present to you, “Gratitude and Resolutions.”
