Vor Wochen bekamen wir bei "Das Politikteil" eine Mail von einer Hörerin. In der Betreffzeile stand ganz nüchtern: "Bildungspolitik". Was dann folgte, war ziemlich heftig.

Today I'm talking with personal growth coach (and my friend) Tammy Spiewak.Tammy and I talk all the time about so much good stuff around food and body image and change and mindset and finally realized we needed to make it public because we both always walk away from our conversations with so much insight and inspiration. Here's what we dive into today:Tammy's journey as a mom, school teacher and yoga teacher to becoming a personal growth coachHow Tammy and I both walked the path of “your mess becomes your message” How the expectations of motherhood in our society impacts our sense of self The stories we tell ourselves that keep us trapped and stuckWhat true self care looks like (hint: its not about a weekly manicure)Why being selfish is a good thingA reframe on why you need more boundaries in your lifeWhy the work of true change takes way more time than we want it to and ultimately never ends (but that's not a bad thing!)Connect with TammyWebsiteInstagramConnect with meFind me on InstagramSign up for my Monday newsletter with lots of nutrition, exercise and mindset tipsLearn more about 1:1 coaching on my website

Jarod Spiewak has been in the marketing game since age 14, but he's been hustling since the 5th grade (which wasn't that long ago for him). Wunderkind jabs aside, he has unique perspectives on marketing and entrepreneurship, particularly where client selection is concerned. He also has a respectable appreciation for '90s films, so as you might imagine, he won Jeff and Francis over pretty fast.

Jason moved forward and took the stage and the road playing in a band. After 5 years of playing in the band, he then moved on to be an assistant at a record label. Too many of us get the signal, ignore it, and than the flare is gone". Jason shares that he is just Dad with his kids, but that the gold records he has are somewhat cool to them. Welcome to A Counselors Journey To Private Practice. I'm your host, Juan.Do you want real results that pay dividends for years to come? Then, you've come to the right place! My guest today is ready to tell us how to generate revenue through online marketing strategy and execution. About Jarod SpiewakJarod Spiewak is the founder and lead strategist of Blue Dog Media, a boutique marketing agency that helps service-based businesses (mainly law firms) acquire more clients through Search Engine Marketing. The goal of Blue Dog Media is simple: to make clients more money as quickly and efficiently as possible. Some of Blue Dog Media's success stories include helping a personal injury law firm increase their organic search call volume by over 170% in a matter of months, maintaining a 20-25% paid ads conversion rate for a criminal defense attorney, and helping a young CPA firm rise above the seasoned local competition on Google.Know Your Marketing NumbersBusinesses that don't have large marketing spends are very focused on referrals. You see that a lot with professional-based companies. Marketing dollars tend to be very low. Let's say they are spending $300 in marketing per month. However, they have no idea if it's actually working or not. Yes, their phone is ringing – but is it because of the marketing, or is it because of the referrals? Not knowing these numbers can be pretty dangerous, especially in certain situations where you just trust the system can work. Make sure you're tracking the performance of your campaigns. That data will tell you if it's actually working or not. Without that tracking, you don't know if you're wasting every single dollar of what you're putting into that marketing channel.Tips For Google AdsThe core fundamental thing that you need to make sure is done is setting up your account. Regardless of how much money you're spending - the number one thing you need to do is conversion tracking. While tracking ROI is excellent, it's not as simple as plug-and-play. When it comes to conversion tracking, you should be able to go into your Google Ads account and know how many phone calls you have and how many form-fills you have. Then, you should be able to look at what is or is not working, as well as how much it's costing you to generate leads. Tune in as Jarod gives loads more tips for private practice owners who are sick of letting their marketing dollars slip through the cracks and are ready for those concrete conversions! Jarod got his start in the world of marketing at the age of 14 by needing to figure out how to make money online to pay for college, which he started attending at 15 years old, after months of writing content for less than $0.01 per word and working for next to free through Craigslists “gigs”, several “real jobs” and years later, after working as the lead strategist for a marketing agency and consulting with several others. In this episode we talk about how he helps his clients to dive deeper into their approach to marketing by mapping out everything that matters, tracking click to dollar, developing a strong strategy that can, and should be, tested, and more. And he reminds us that we are ultimately seeking profit, not clicks. Listen in! Jarod Spiewak is a talented SEO agency owner with a mountain of insight on how he runs and hires for his agency. This is a great listen for anyone interested in understanding the mind of an agency owner. His interest in writing led him to discovering SEO. Everyone wanted SEO content and eventually he was even tasked with writing an article on how to do SEO. After working for an agency for a while he started taking on clients of his own and decided to build his own.Jarod goes deep on his hiring process with us - what does he look for, how does he filter for good prospects, where is he looking, etc. He also takes us through the hilarious yet tragic story of investing in an office when it wasn't necessary and discovering that you don't have to work an insane schedule to be a productive business owner. Some of our big takeaways of this episode are: Thinking about how a client may or may not fit in with your process can be more useful than being super niche oriented. Many clients don't even care if you're super niche. You don't need that many clients to make good money. Find out how much money you want to make and realize you may not need a ton of clients to achieve it.When hiring, consider asking about the content a person takes in. It's very useful to have someone who loves to learn. Years of experience doesn't necessarily indicate a person's mindset which can be their most valuable quality.Be sure to follow Jason Spiewak online at https://teambluedog.com/, and Facebook.Other books and podcasts mentioned:Profit First - See Amazon link here and BIOP interview with the author hereAnything by Simon SinekFind Your WhyLeaders Eat LastPitch AnythingReworkHave questions? BGBS 026: Laurence Spiewak (Suerte Tequila)Co-founder, Laurence Spiewak, is sharing how Suerte Tequila came to be. While it may not have been the most direct route, Laurence is happy with all the adventures his heart has led him on. Find out how a kid from Philly left the family business for occupational therapy, only to again follow his heart and build his own tequila brand. Learn what's possible when you follow your heart. What we're talking aboutThe American Dream and A Call For Adventure How the Knowledge of Consumer Packaged Goods Led To Great Tequila The Tequila Challenge of The Three-Tier System The American Dream and A Call For AdventureLaurence Spiewak is the son of an immigrant. His father taught him what it took to be an entrepreneur and own a successful and lucrative business. While Laurence will be the first to admit he didn't necessarily have the entrepreneurial spirit early on in life, he did embrace the call to adventure and curiosity about other cultures from a young age. Determined to follow his interests and passions at the time, he convinced the dean at Penn State University to allow him to study both international business and art with the vision of combining the two in some way. He discovered his love for ceramics and the history of deep culture rooted in the art. During this same time, he also soon became aware of many of the environmental issues around the globe and learned he could have a significant impact in the world if he took action. He took this passion for the environment and made the move to Boulder, CO for a year after college, to be exposed to the wilderness. This exposure, however, made him realize how curious he was to explore even more of the world, and he soon set out to travel and experience Europe and other parts of the world. He first set off to Whales to live in community and help care for those with developmental disabilities, which had a very big impact on him. After six months in Whales, Laurence traveled through Western Europe, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. These adventures significantly shaped his future. Upon returning home, and knowing he wanted a career where he helped people to have better lives, he went on to study occupational therapy and ultimately went on to run rehab departments in nursing homes in New York. His love for helping people could not quiet the calling from Boulder, Colorado pulling him back. How the Knowledge of Consumer Packaged Goods Led To Really Good TequilaAfter four years of working in nursing homes back in Colorado, Laurence was feeling some sense of burn out. He decided it was time to make a change, and reached out to a friend who had started a natural organic skin care company, asking if he could help grow this entrepreneurial endeavor. This experience helped to solidify his familiarity with consumer packaged goods. He soon saw that he had a knack for helping entrepreneurs do business and financial planning, and began a career as a consultant. During this time, Laurence's friendship with an old co-worker, Lance Sokol continued to grow, bonding over a shared love of drinking and trying new Tequila. They made it their mission to try every tequila out there. Soon realizing they had tried many of the brands out there, and that the really good tequila cost a lot of money, they looked at each other and wondered if it was too crazy of an idea to start their own brand. They already were in the consumer packaged goods world, already knew how to set up products, how to source raw materials, how to create packaging and how to price things. They made a business plan in hopes their dream would become a reality. Lance soon met Pedro Hernandez Barba, a master distiller of tequila in Mexico who was looking for someone in the US to produce tequila for. The three got together and discussed their dreams and created a partnership. Laurence and Lance would act as the importer and brand, and Pedro's family would act as supplier and distiller. The Tequila Challenge of The Three-Tier System Luck seemed to find Laurence, thus suerte or “luck” in Spanish, became the name of their tequila brand. While this adventure seemed to get off the ground flawlessly, there was one challenge they continued to come across. The U.S. has what's called a Three-Tier System for alcoholic beverages. In the alcoholic beverage industry you have the suppliers, distributors and retailers. So those are the three tiers. You can't do business on more than any one of those at a time. So a supplier can't own a distribution business or vice versa. But even within the distribution piece, most laws have laws that prohibit you from selling directly to customers or directly to retailers. You have to do it with a middle man distributor. Each of those distributors have business in many of the brands they represent, which makes it very competitive until you actually generate some volume. These challenges do present themselves, but Suerte Tequila seems to be doing pretty well for itself, as luck would have it. What was the last adventure you let your heart take the lead on? (LS) My interest in entrepreneurship started really developing even more strongly at that point because I was working for and helping to run an entrepreneurial endeavor and being exposed to entrepreneurship on a daily basis. (LS) It was one of the best traits that we both brought to the business into the creation of the business, which was that we had no fear, and we had no hesitation. We’ve seen an uptick in independent and branded small-scale publications—beautiful, limited-edition tomes often with a run that is only in the hundreds. It’s an upscale evolution of DIY zine culture, which saw the proliferation of niche publications like Cometbus, Factsheet Five, and Profane Existence—each one offering a unique perspective on alternative culture. But now brands and high-profile artists are getting in on the action. Kanye West released zines for his two previous Yeezy collections. Frank Ocean created a zine for his latest album, Boys Don’t Cry, which was packed in with a different edit of the record. Nike has made several strides with a slim, substantial tome called On Design, which was limited to just 500 copies and features essays by CEO Mark Parker and works from artist Maria Kalman. It was made to coincide with Milan Design Week. In addition to our own magazine, Highsnobiety recently published our first zine—the cheekily named “Short For Magazine,” featuring behind-the-scenes photos of the Yeezy Season 3 show from staffer Thomas Welch. The ongoing series is meant to be a limited-edition platform to highlight emerging artists, designers, and creatives in a more intimate way. On today’s show, we speak with David Hellqvist. He’s the fashion features editor at PORT magazine, freelance menswear editor, and the publisher of Document Studios.
