Embark on a sonic sojourn to the bustling streets of Tokyo as my buddy George and I navigate the city's marvels, both edible and audible. While George regales us with tales from the Land of the Rising Sun, we'll pull back the curtain to reveal the alchemy of podcast magic. Hear how tools like Descript and BuzzSprout, along with the crisp clarity of Rode tech, transform our chats into auditory gold. It's an insider's tour from the hum of Tokyo's trains to the meticulous craft behind each episode, proving that a great story is just a play button away.As the aroma of perfectly grilled yakitori wafts through the conversation, George leads us into the heart of Tokyo's culinary temples, where the yakitori masters wield their skewers like brushes on a canvas. The sizzle of Japanese charcoal becomes the backdrop for an exploration of the intimate dance between chef and ingredient, where each skewer tells its own tale. From the bustling izakayas to the tranquil simplicity of a Japanese breakfast, our tastebuds travel on a journey as rich and intricate as the culture from which it springs. Finally, we raise our cups to the sake renaissance, a narrative steeped in tradition but buzzing with innovation. The evolution of sake from its warm, rustic roots to the delicate notes of chilled Daiginjo is a testament to the craftsmanship of its brewers—and we're here to share that story. Through anecdotes and analogies, we connect the dots between sake's complex character and the familiar world of fine spirits, even contemplating its place alongside classic American fare. And because no trip is complete without a touch of homesickness, I reminisce about the signature dishes of my favorite Chinese spot back home, and the undeniable comfort of the foods we love. Join us for these stories, stitched together with the thread of friendship and a shared appreciation for life's finer flavors.

Alex is a mother, chef, cookbook author, and TV personality. Ava Clark is her 16 year old daughter. This recipe is from their new cookbook, Cook it Up: Bold Moves For Family Foods.Tsukune with yakitori sauce(Japanese Chicken Meatball Skewers)Makes 8 skewers1 pound ground chicken breast1 cup panko breadcrumbs1 small shallot, grated on a microplane 2 teaspoons finely grated ginger1 tablespoon, plus 1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarchKosher salt1 large egg, lightly beaten4 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar, divided 3 tablespoons mirin rice wine1 tablespoon sugar2 to 3 tablespoons canola oilMetal or wooden skewers, for grilling#1. MAKE THE MEATBALLS: In a large bowl, combine the chicken with the breadcrumbs, shallot, ginger, cornstarch, a generous sprinkle of salt, the egg, and 2 tablespoons of the soy sauce. Use a rubber spatula to combine and then add 1 tablespoon of the rice wine vinegar. Roll the mixture into 24 meatballs (or 18 to 20 cylinders). #2. Set a wire rack over a baking sheet. Fill a shallow 2-quart pot three-quarters full with water and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Season the water with salt. Rub a wooden spoon with some oil (this prevents the meatballs from sticking and splashing the water) and carefully drop in 6 to 8 meatballs per batch. Simmer the meatballs until they are completely cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes (you can test one by removing it and cutting it in half). Use a slotted spoon to transfer the meatballs to the rack. Return the water to a simmer and repeat the process with the remaining meatballs.#3. MAKE THE SAUCE: While the meatballs are cooling, in a small saucepan, combine the remaining 2 tablespoons soy sauce, remaining 1 tablespoon of vinegar, mirin, and sugar and cook over medium heat until slightly thick, about 2 to 3 minutes.#4. Preheat a grill or a grill pan. While it's heating, thread three meatballs (or 1 cylinder) on the upper half of each skewer. If you don't have a grill or grill pan, you can finish cooking the meatballs in a saute pan with a little hot oil until they are cooked through. #5. GRILL AND GLAZE: Make sure you get an adult for this part! When the grill is really hot and starts to smoke, gently dip a kitchen towel in the oil and use it to grease the grill grates. Arrange a few skewers side by side on the grill and cook for 5 to 7 minutes until browned, grill marked, and hot. Repeat with the remaining skewers. Then, using a brush, glaze the meatballs with the sauce and serve warm.*******Follow Clean Plate Club on Instagram.Tag your meal on social media: #CleanPlateClubPodFollow Kappy on Instagram and TwitterCheck out our Clean Plate Club Merch at www.CleanPlateClubMerch.com Executive Producer/Host: Andrew “Kappy” KaplanCo-Executive Producer: Ian CohenProducer/Editor: Joel YeatonProducer: Shant PetrossianDigital/Social Media Producers: Red Summit Productions (Celeste Rada/Harrison Sims)Kid Voices: Leo + Ella KaplanMusic & Sound: Jeffrey Goldford and the LikemindsEducational Consultant: Barbara JohnsonAlbum Artwork: Dave BogartClean Plate Club...

Yakitori is a pretty standard War story with a wild twist. Although it's not the best movie I've seen, I honestly hope there is more to come from the creators. The storyline kept me engaged and the twist definitely threw me for a loop. Overall, I would recommend giving it a watch. Hello and good afternoon, everyone! Anna and (sometimes) Adam, back at it again with a new podcast episode! Anna's Insta is linked below, Adam's is https://www.instagram.com/adeezzy40 Podcast notes to follow along should you wish to do so: http://sensationalshegeek.weebly.com/full-archive/ep96-the-hermit-iron-man-and-emma-frost-get-married-ms-marvel-in-wells-er-man-ruridragon-comic-news-and-more This week's Tarot Studies 0:04:01 covers our Card of the Week for the Major Arcana, #9: The Hermit! I talk a little history, description and symbolism, meaning, and pop culture references! Additionally, due to the Anime Tarot's Hikikomori card for the Hermit, I go through the differing definitions of Hikikomori, NEET, Otaku, and Weeaboo, as described by the Japanese Ministry of Health. As part of our regular Manga segment, this week's Manga of the week 0:20:01 is the elusive Ruri Dragon! Written and illustrated by Masaoki Shindo, for whom the series has had to take a break due to the creator's health. Available on the Shonen Jump app, hopefully the hype keeps up long enough for Shindo to make a glorious return for Ruri and co! The weekly COMIC BOOKS chat 0:25:04 starts with fairly extensive Comic Book News--and Adam's main involvement of the episode this week. News we cover includes August Marvel and DC announcements, the somewhat curious line of Fall of X books, Tony and Emma's coming marriage (yep, really), and of course, those ASM #26.....choices. That was....truly a choice. We all know why, but that doesn't make it any better. Lame. Anyway. I wrap up comic news with some Frank Frazetta talk regarding the upcoming Dynamite Fire and Ice series. There's a week or two of Recent Comic Reads 0:58:23, including the penultimate Captain Marvel, Spirit World, Avengers, and at least a TRIO of really fun indie titles. This is followed by what is coming for New Comics Next Week (5/24) 01:08:09: some series starts and some very coo continuations, IMO! The TV/MOVIES segment 01:13:46 includes a little bit of what I've been watching this week, like Netflix's Yakitori anime, before getting into some brief Announcements 01:15:05. Lastly, for Anime News 01:18:56, I have a few points of interest that include English dub announcements as well as releases for later seasons this year! Come back next week for more tarot lessons, more comic books, manga and anime, pop culture, and more, for the last week of May! Keep it sweaty; it's a good time to be a nerd. Full seven hour odyssey available only on Patreon: patreon.com/imsopopular On a colossal odyssey through the streets of Tokyo, Samuel and Chi Chi submerge themselves into a sea of memories from Japan past and future, discussing the music of transcendental girl group PERFUME and the quintessential fragrance MONOCLE 3: SUGI COMME DES GARÇONS. Against a breath of fog settled over Yoyogi Park, hot pink sparkling outfits in Harajuku, the warbling voices of Yakitori staff and, finally, the glimmering waters beneath Tokyo Sky Tree, two white gays in Japan mine the country for all it's worth and unearth in its broken culture, sodomized idols and uncanny pop music a lust for life's beauties so intense no atom bomb or tsunami could stop it. Manhandling reality and twisting it into your most perverse fantasies, draining your soul into the void for fame and surmounting national calamity for art... Love the world: spinning world, spinning girl, chocolate disco. A rainbow colored laser beam pierces me through the heart and the world is an endless resetting digital memory of algorithms protested and resisted. Japanese Pop Music Is God and Perfume Is His Prophet.
Imgur albumSpecial Equipment -Bamboo Skewers Special Ingredients - Mirin Recipe:1lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs4-5 bunches of scallions1/2 cup soy sauce1/2 cup mirin1/4 cup sake1/4 cup water2 tablespoons brown sugarSoak your bamboo skewers in water for an hour prior to assembly.Mix together all of the sauce ingredients in a pan and then reserve a quarter cup of the liquid to marinate the chicken. Add one bunch of chopped scallion greens to the liquid. Bring the sauce to a boil and then simmer until reduced by 2/3. Cut the chicken into 1 inch cubes. Thread the chicken onto the bamboo skewers, alternating with a scallion bulb. Leave enough of the skewer free on the dull end to be able to turn the skewer on the grill without having your hand directly over the heat. In your grill, build a hot bed of coals with the grill grates close to the surface. Lay the skewers on the grill perpendicular to the grill grates. Brush on the sauce and turn the skewers frequently to avoid burning. Baste and turn frequently for 15 minutes or until the internal temperature of a thick chicken chunk is 165ºF. When done, remove to a platter and serve with steamed white rice and a vegetable of choice.

James and will continue reading Shunju Aono's slice of life manga, reflecting on their own attitudes around women and their fathers. At the end of the episode, they review the conclusion to the Evangelion Rebuild movies ‘Evangelion 3.0 +1.0: Thrice Upon a Time'. Beware of spoilers and sensitive subject matter! Skip the manga's plot synopsis @ 5:53 Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com 080: I'll Give It My All… Tomorrow vol. 2 Chapters: 5 to 10 ‘Miracle' and ‘Master' with Bonus Chapters ‘Back Then' parts 1 and 2 By Shunju Aono Translation by Akemi Wegmuller Lettering by Steven Rhyse 42-year-old Shizuo Oguro surmises that to become a successful manga he must make a cry from the heart; or as the French say a ‘Cri De Coeur' and less of materialistic desire in his work. A manga that only he could draw. So, he makes an autobiography. And he gets rejected. He is also rejected again, when he makes a pass at a female editor. Shizuo makes himself feel better by drinking with his long-time friend Miyata, but Miyata will not let Shizuo stay at his place following a disagreement with his father, deeming it inappropriate for two middle aged friends living together. Instead, the 26-year-old Shuichi Ichinosawa is the one who tolerates Shizuo as a house buddy. Meanwhile, Ichinosawa dyes his hair, possibly due to peer pressure from his workplace peers. He witnesses one of his work colleagues bully the new guy, he punches the bully in the face then loses his job and speaks to Shizuo's dad who tells him that to fail is normal, and it is what everyone does. Because at the age of 45, Shizuo's dad set up an Izakaya and seemingly he was able to only make ends meet with it until it went bust after 20 years. Throughout these years Shizuo's dad would have been a widow, Shizuo was only 15 when she, Sakiko Oguro passed. Later that night, the mention of Shizuo's mother is enough to make him return home to his dad. In the bonus chapters, we see that Ichinosawa is paid a visit by his sister Yukako and we learn that the two of them have lost a father to suicide as teenagers. Topics: Things we liked (kicked out of home humour) Things we did not like (Hard to tell who is speaking due to the layout of speech bubbles) Real Talk (Women rejecting creepy men and father troubles) Shizuo's list of shirts as they appear in order of this volume: Homerun, Curse, Hawaii, Hijiki (edible seaweed), Rejected, Oguro Productions, 4649, 42, Ekke (possibly slang for daydreamer), Paris, Zico (Brazillian football coach), Pele (Brazillian footballer) Other references: Izakaya, a bar or tavern. Most common are the types where a red lantern is outside. Yakitori Shiro, Yakitori is grilled chicken, the “Shiro”, could stand for Shizuo's dad's name, as the food Shiro is really Ethiopian cuisine and not traditionally Japanese. Greetings Glocal Citizens! This week's conversation is a great complement to a favorite summer past-time and what many consider delicacy--Barbecue. My guest is fellow Coloradan and Stanford Alum, Adrian Miller - The Soul Food Scholar. He is an award winning food writer, attorney, and certified barbecue judge. Two of his books, his first in 2014, Soul Food: The Surprising Story of an American Cuisine, One Plate at a Time and most recent in 2022, Black Smoke: African Americans and the United States of Barbecue are the James Beard Foundation (https://www.jamesbeard.org/blog/the-2022-james-beard-award-winners) Award for Reference, History, and Scholarship winners. His second book, The President's Kitchen Cabinet: The Story of the African Americans Who Have Fed Our First Families, From the Washingtons to the Obamas was a finalist for a 2018 NAACP Image Award (https://naacpimageawards.net/naacp-hollywood-bureau/) for “Outstanding Literary Work – Non-Fiction.” He is also featured in the Netflix hit docu-series, "High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America (https://www.netflix.com/title/81034518)." He is currently the executive director of the Colorado Council of Churches (https://cochurches.org) and, as such, is the first African American, and the first layperson, to hold that position. As well, he is the co-project director and lead curator for the forthcoming “Proclaiming Colorado's Black History” exhibit at the Museum of Boulder.
