She discusses the importance of having mentors and the emotional aspects of being a CEO. In episode #5 of the podcast, we meet with Carlos Diaz, CEO of Synapse Research in Spain, a specialist SME managing complex projects in IMI and Horizon 2020 (considered the number one SME), such as EHDEN, and formerly an economist and business administrator. Joining him is Johann Proeve, a biologist by training, who spent 36 years in clinical data management at Bayer Healthcare, and who ran the global data management organisation for 15 years, and who worked within IMI1 EHR4CR, and following retirement came back to Bayer to work in EHDEN. He is also the CSO of Cyntegrity, a risk-based quality management company. Carlos and Johann co-lead EHDEN's Work Package 6 focusing on value propositions, community, stakeholder engagement, education and training, and sustainability. Both Carlos and Johann initially explore the emerging community of multiple entities and organisations in Europe, driven by the adoption of the OMOP common data model (CDM), and now having also worked on evidence generation based on this foundation. The coordination of the Data Partner and SME community via a Community Manager has been critical to this evolution, recognising the specific nuances of Europe, though work remains to be done in terms of being self actualising as a community from local to regional, with a levelling up in terms of geographical through to chronic to rare diseases representation. The discussion then explores the thinking behind the startup mentality ('running the project like a business'), especially as EHDEN now has two years left in the IMI phase, focusing on value streams and the establishment of the EHDEN not-for-profit entity, but most importantly the incentives driving everyone's involvement and the need to develop relationships. Lastly, we focus on a thought experiment considering what success would look like two years after the IMI phase ends, in 2026, centering on a revolution in real world research within a self actualised, open science community. The views expressed by the participants are personal and not necessarily reflective of their organisations.

She has been at the forefront of strategy, business, and digital transformations to champion data-driven decision-making and customer-centricity with a dynamic and collaborative leadership style. We discuss the biggest challenges for pharma and life sciences companies during commercial transformation and the consequences for companies who refuse to evolve. Tune in as Bharti shares how companies can measure their success in the commercial process and what kind of mindset companies should adopt to achieve transformation successfully.     IN THIS EPISODE:   [02:04] What role does culture and mindset play in commercial transformation? [07:45] Bharti shares the four biggest digitization challenges for pharma and life sciences companies. [16:20] How macro-level areas must be carefully navigated when driving maturity across people, processes, and systems. [20:29] Measuring and tracking the success of the digitization process. [25:11] What should pharma and life sciences companies look for when building their teams and the talent pool.   KEY TAKEAWAYS:   Digital transformations usually start top-down with leadership and then progress to the rest of the functions. Getting the leadership to believe in it is not enough. It has to permeate the rest of the organization. Pharma and life sciences companies understand that digitization is inevitable and necessary, but they struggle to figure out how to do it effectively and with lasting effect. Most companies are solely focused on technology and miss out on other essential elements in digital transformation, such as the importance of people, evolution, talent, mindset, and culture.   LINKS MENTIONED:   Bharti Rai on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/raibharti/   Axtria on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/axtria/   BIO: Bharti Rai is an accomplished and versatile leader with 25 years of experience in healthcare and Big 4 management consulting. 46. The Art of Productive Screen Time, host William Glass sits down with Laura Page-Hamelin & Graeme McKay, co-founders of Artebula. Together they discuss the power of creativity and how promoting creative children lead to future innovators. From there we explore the challenges facing parents and children with the current content platforms and how Artebula is focused on promoting productive screen time by combining technology, art, and science. You’ll also learn the challenges and benefits of going from solopreneur to teampreneur and how to effectively work as a team across multiple continents. Laura Page-Hamelin is a passionate businesswoman and entrepreneur. Laura worked in the corporate world as a marketer but felt most comfortable being an entrepreneur. When her fourth child was born with a rare auto-immune disorder she decided to stay home permanently and to fund this choice she used her digital marketing talents to found a successful, boutique digital marketing agency, Social Jibber Jabber. In 2018, Laura identified a pain point in the children’s art and education market and with a five thousand dollar government grant began the foundations for what would later become Artebula Inc. Graeme McKay is the technology lead at Artebula and brings significant experience in both healthcare informatics and finance product design and development. Graeme has worked with innovative start-up companies including eFilm and Radimetrics, as well as industry leaders Bayer Healthcare and JP Morgan Chase. In today's episode, Kaeli discusses herself and her journey into the aesthetics field. She also talks about her personal mission and lets us in on why it's important to fully optimize your team to maximize your growth and income. After graduating, Kaeli was recruited for a sales position with Bayer Healthcare. This allowed her to learn the intricacies of working for a Fortune 500 company, and how corporations in general operate. Kaeli was then recruited to an aesthetics company where she found her true passion. She moved up the ladder into sales management, then to sales director heading a team of 15 women. While she loved her job and team, with two small children at home she ultimately decided to make a change for her family. Always seeing her superpower as being able to see the big picture, as well as having an entrepreneurial spirit, Kaeli began KLC Consulting. With a passion for team building and team culture, Kaeli found her focus in helping to build her clients' practices. During this period, she found that doctors are often lacking the skills needed to be CEO and the time to learn them. Here, Kaeli noticed an opportunity often missed. Practice managers are underutilized and undervalued. To expand and scale the reach of your business, develop the team you already have. What people are learning at conferences is outdated for the practices of today and we need to step up and innovate. Kaeli's mission is to elevate the voices of practice managers and give them the platform and tools they need to help grow their business. It's time to stop looking externally for solutions. Optimize who and what you already have to build the strong foundations of leadership and culture within your business.   Book a Strategy Call with Kaeli Tribe of Fierce Aesthetic Leaders on Facebook KLC Consulting Website Kaeli on Instagram Kaeli on LinkedIn Video Link to this episode

“We saw that women didn’t have the confidence to step up, so we were determined to change that for #GenerationEquality so that women of the future and women today have a better shot at being in senior levels roles.” - Denise D’Agostini On March 8th, LiveGirl celebrated International Women's Day (IWD) with the theme: “Generation Equality: Realizing women’s rights for an equal future.” For this year's celebration, Sheri and Olivia sit down with Denise D’Agostini, Co-Founder of Her New Standard, and her daughter, Lauren to talk about the importance of challenging gender norms and empowering each other.  IWD is important because despite some progress, real change has been agonizingly slow for the majority of women and girls in the world. Today, not a single country can claim to have achieved gender equality. Multiple obstacles remain unchanged in law and in culture. And women and girls continue to be undervalued. Check out our conversation where Denise and Lauren share about the inspiration behind Her New Standard, the “playbook” for #nextgen leaders and the top things holding women and teens back.  Lauren is a 16-year-old high schooler, who attends Somers New York High School. Denise has 25 years of experience in Pharma, which includes serving as the Head of HR for both Bayer HealthCare and Ciba Specialty Chemicals. She later co-founded Her New Standard in 2013, stemming from her passion in developing women leaders & igniting confidence so that each individual reaches their greatest potential. Denise’s clients range from Fortune 500 to start-ups. Along with serving as HR Leader and Executive Coach at Her New Standard, Denise is ALSO an adjunct instructor at Cornell University, the ILR School of Human Capital Development.  Join #GenerationEquality. Be the first, the youngest, the best, and make sure no one is left behind. The future we create for women and girls up to all of us.

At the close of the DeStefano-Levin era, we ask: What is the legacy of this extraordinary partnership? What will it mean for New Haven’s future? Moderated by Douglas Rae, Richard S. Ely Professor of Management & Professor of Political Science. John DeStefano, Jr. John DeStefano, Jr. was sworn in as the 49th Mayor of New Haven on January 1, 1994. He is serving his 10th term in office. Mayor DeStefano has worked hard and successfully to strengthen the academic achievement of public school students, to build a vibrant mixed use city center, a competitive economic base, strong neighborhoods and a community culture of traditional values and social tolerance. During Mayor DeStefano’s tenure virtually every public school has been rebuilt under the $1.5 billion Citywide School Construction Program. Key features of the school construction program have supported universal pre-k services, the largest inter-district enrollment and magnet school program in the State, college level lab and technology facilities and great architecture. In 2009, the Mayor and school board, of which he is a member and the appointing authority, announced the School Change Initiative. Supported by a ground breaking agreement with the New Haven Federation of Teachers, the City has launched a reform initiative whose key strategies are a portfolio approach to school management, a focus on teacher talent through a progressive teacher evaluation construct and a commitment to see that every child has the aspiration and is prepared for and able to complete college. Since taking office in 1994 the City center has undergone a dramatic transformation into a mixed use community of some 12,000 residents. Anchored by the Mayor’s support of University, Hospital and medical center expansion, New Haven has emerged as a national center of life and bio science businesses. Downtown commercial, residential and retail occupancies stand at record lows. In 2010 the US Department of Transportation announced funding of the Downtown Crossing project which will remove a 1960’s era limited express highway that has divided the central business district from the City’s principal rail station and rapidly growing medical research, clinical and office district. The project will double the size of the downtown. Neighborhoods have been strengthened as the city has managed housing stock to mixed income and use models, promoted commercial corridors, street smart infrastructure and public improvements. The City has decentralized police management districts, promoted the use of neighborhood based collaborations and a robust civic culture. That civic culture has resulted in a welcoming and inclusive community through initiatives such as the Elm City Resident Card that provides identification cards and access to public services for all residents of the City. Under the Mayor’s leadership, the City has sponsored the organization and capitalization of a community development bank whose mission supports the unbanked and promotes financial literacy. New Haven boasts an incredibly vibrant culture of economic and social entrepreneurship. Mayor DeStefano has served as the President of the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities and the National League of Cities, the oldest and largest organization representing America’s cities and towns. During his tenure New Haven has been named an ‘All America City’ three times. Mayor DeStefano is the son of a New Haven police officer and a lifelong City resident. John and his wife Kathy DeStefano met at the University of Connecticut as undergraduates, where he also earned a Masters in Public Administration. Kathy is a first grade teacher and they are the parents of two sons. Richard C. Levin Richard C. Levin, Frederick William Beinecke Professor of Economics, has been Yale’s President since 1993. He received his B.A. from Stanford University in 1968 and studied politics and philosophy at Oxford University, where he earned a B.Litt. degree. He received his Ph.D. from Yale in 1974 and joined the Yale faculty. Before becoming president, he chaired the economics department and served as dean of Yale’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. In August, Mr. Levin announced that he will step down as President of the University at the end of the current academic year, his twentieth year of service. Exciting ventures to improve the University locally, nationally, and internationally have been a hallmark of Mr. Levin’s presidency. Close to home, his goals have included improving the campus infrastructure, and the University has invested over $5 billion in the renovation and construction of its facilities. Strengthening connections to the City of New Haven has led to innovative partnerships that have advanced economic development and encouraged home ownership in the City. In fall 2010, Yale joined with the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven and the City to announce New Haven Promise, a visionary scholarship and support program for city residents who graduate from a public school in the city and attend college in Connecticut. In mid-June 2007, the University purchased the Bayer HealthCare complex, a property with over 500,000 square feet of state-of-the-art research space, as well as office buildings, warehouses and other facilities. Launching and enhancing international initiatives has been another priority. All Yale undergraduates now have the opportunity to study or participate in internships abroad. Several years ago, need-based financial aid became available for all international students in Yale College as it has been for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Mr. Levin has established numerous educational and research partnerships in China and India. On March 31, 2011, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Yale announced that Yale-NUS College would be established in Singapore, providing a new model of liberal arts education for Asia. Mr. Levin is recognized as an advocate and leader of the role of higher education in local and global sustainable development. He established an Office of Sustainability in 2005, and that year endorsed an aggressive greenhouse gas reduction target and strategy for the University. Mr. Levin serves on President Obama’s Council of Advisors for Science and Technology. He is a trustee of the Hewlett Foundation, a director of ClimateWorks, American Express, and C3, and a member of the National Committee on United States-China Relations. He served on a bipartisan commission to recommend improvements in the nation’s intelligence capabilities and he co-chaired a major review of the nation’s patent system for the National Academy of Sciences. President Levin holds honorary degrees from Harvard, Princeton, Oxford, Peking, Tokyo, and Waseda universities and Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Richard Levin and his wife, Jane, have lived in New Haven throughout their more than 40 years at Yale. They have four children and seven grandchildren. Douglas Rae (moderator) Douglas Rae is a student of the interface between business and government. He has served on the Yale faculty since 1967, chairing the political science department during the 1980s. He took public service leave in 1990 and 1991 to serve as chief administrative officer of New Haven during a crisis period. He has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, was a fellow of Stanford’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, a fellow of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study, and has received numerous honors and prizes for his research. He has consulted widely and variously to the parliaments of Spain, Italy, & the Netherlands Antilles, select corporate leaders, to numerous American cities and universities, and to the BBC. At Yale, he has held leadership positions and board memberships with the University Library, Yale University Press, the Institution for Social and Policy Studies, the Division of Social Sciences, the Department of Athletics, and Yale SOM. In 2010, Mr. Rae was awarded the Mory's Cup in recognition of his service to Yale.
