With over 60 million human-curated Q&A pairs, Stack Overflow is now at the center of AI development — not as a competitor to large language models like ChatGPT, but as a foundational knowledge base that powers them. Prashanth breaks down how Stack Overflow is partnering with OpenAI, Google, and other LLM providers to license its data and improve AI accuracy, while also protecting the integrity of its community. He explains the rise of OverflowAI, how Stack Overflow for Teams is fueling enterprise-grade co-pilots, and why developers still rely on expert human input when AI hits its “complexity cliff.” The conversation covers everything from hallucination problems and trust issues in AI-generated code to the monetization of developer data and the evolving interface of the web. If you want to understand the future of developer tools, AI coding assistants, and how human knowledge will coexist with autonomous agents, this episode is a must-listen. Jodi, Bridget and Philip talk about 'Spellbound' (2024), a new animated musical from Netflix and Skydance Animation. This is the second animated feature to come from Skydance after 'Luck' (2022) and is directed and co-written by 'Shrek' director Vicky Jenson. The film takes viewers to the enchanted, or rather, cursed, kingdom of Lumbria, ruled by King Solon and Queen Ellsmere. Their daughter, Princess Ellian, must determine whether to become queen, since the king and queen were transformed into feral monsters and have been hidden away in the palace for a year. Ellian manages to contact two oracles who are unable to reverse the enchantment but point her toward a possible solution. She must guide the two lizard-like monsters on a journey to a lake of light, but must contend with the fact that this perilous quest will likely leave her, her kingdom, and her family forever changed.

Comparisons to other sci-fi works like "I Am Mother" and "Raised by Wolves" highlight common themes of artificial parenthood and environmentalism. The optimistic Ruby Wang is a Visual Development artist at Skydance Animation. Ruby shares her experience growing-up in Taiwan, absorbing both Japanese and American animation and storytelling. At Flight School Studio she was designing for VR, AR, XR, and MR; and what those different media were like to work on. Ray and Ruby reminisce on their time at Tonko House, and how Dice Tsusumi and Robert Kondo's mentorship changed their art fundamentally. Ruby really gets into the different visas you can have in the USA, the pitfalls therein, and how the shift in our industry as a gig-based economy has made the status of an international worker that much more difficult. Through her preserverance, she has also come to a place where she can work on feature film and children's books like she has always dreamed of. James Cameron-Wilson looks at the UK box office chart, with takings down 20% week-on-week. At #1 is tongue-in-cheek thriller Bullet Train, starring Brad Pitt, but it only took £2.9m in an extended weekend. With no other new films, James turned to streaming services. On Apple+ is Skydance Animation's Luck, with the voices of Simon Pegg and others. At times delightful, it ends up being a mixed bag, says James. He was more positive about Amazon Prime's 13 Lives in which director Ron Howard tells the true story of the cave rescue of a group of Thai schoolboys. Skydance Animation's first feature film Luck just dropped on AppleTV+, and we were able to chat with director Peggy Holmes this week about her career and the making of the film. Peggy was a delight to chat with and I thoroughly recommend this episode for anyone interested in taking steps toward directing - from wherever they are now!Being Skydance's first animated feature, they obviously wanted to come out of the gate with something ambitious. There were some leadership changes at the studio and at the helm of this film which left them with a short time frame to produce this feature, during the pandemic, over zoom as Peggy talks about. But it is a big, ambitious, world building project, the type of project that has a simple premise, but a lot of moving parts. I really like some of the choices in regards to storytelling that veer away from the easy and obvious, which we talk about toward the end of the conversation. We don't get too spoilery - we do talk about a few things in the last quarter or so which you'd probably want to see the movie before hearing, at least if you're as spoiler averse as me.We also discuss Peggy's super interesting career path! I mean, how many feature animation directors started as dancers? I'm going to say you could probably count them on one hand, if not one finger. Interestingly, I missed this in our conversation, but Peggy really got the crowd in Annecy when she showed herself dancing in an 80s Lionel Ritchie Pepsi commercial and then filming herself as dance reference for the animators of Luck.Luck is also the first in a bigger deal between Apple TV+ and Skydance animation, so it's going to be interesting to see what comes next.If you have any comments or suggestions please get in touch. "Luck" trae una premisa optimista: por más funestas que sean las circunstancias, no hay mal que por bien no venga.Y es eso lo que Apple TV+ espera que se materialice con John Lasseter, el exgurú de Pixar que renunció arrollado por denuncias de acoso en los tiempos del #MeToo, asumiendo luego la dirección de la debutante Skydance Animation.

Why was Voltes V banned in the Philippines during Martial Law? Concerns about the effects of violence on children, said the official statement. Perhaps the mecha anime's theme of young resistance fighters battling an oppressive regime hit too close to home for the censors, others opined. Stories have power, as we discuss with Laurianne Uy, a storyboard artist and comic creator from Manila, Philippines now based in LA whose work has appeared in film, TV, print, and online. She started drawing comics about her favorite characters in 1997 and also served as art editor for her high school and college newspapers. Laur went on to major in History of Art at the University of California, Berkeley, where she majored in and wrote her honors thesis on manga and female representation. In 2012, she won a Xeric grant and launched a successful Kickstarter campaign for her self-published young adult comic series "Polterguys." She successfully deployed her lifelong passion for drawing and storytelling to a career in animation by 2017. She is currently a Story Artist for Skydance Animation, and has also worked as a Storyboard Artist for DreamWorks, Nickelodeon, Titmouse, Wild Canary Animation, Activision, and Soapbox Films. She has worked on storyboard animation for properties such as Star Trek, Madagascar, Cleopatra in Space, Deathstroke, and Puss in Boots. She gets real about being lost in her twenties, finding her way back to her first love of drawing, turning down movie offers to adapt her comics, how the manga and anime fandom went mainstream, as well as universal advice on the dangers of burnout and the importance of boundaries between our personal and professional lives. This episode is dedicated to all artists making their voices heard and standing up for truth in darkness... and to all our Filipino listeners who showed up at the polls on May 9. Representation matters, as Laur said. Stories matter, too -- and we are still writing our collective story as a nation. Vicky Jenson started painting backgrounds for Hanna-Barbera cartoons and rose through the ranks of the TV and film animation business until DreamWorks hired her to co-direct a feature animation. Upon its release in 2001 the movie proved to be a juggernaut. Its title is “Shrek,” and not only did it win the first-ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and gross over $267 million in 2001 alone, but it also spun off three sequels, several video games and even a Broadway stage adaptation. Vicky went on to co-direct the Oscar-nominated “Shark Tale” and also to direct several live-action projects in the worlds of film, television and advertising. She is currently hard at work on her latest project, a new animated film she is directing for Skydance Animation that is scheduled to be released in November of 2022. In this interview with Rob Kramer and Pier Carlo Talenti, Vicky discusses the unexpected ways in which the pandemic has affected the making of her new film and how the recent reckoning on gender and race disparity in Hollywood is finally standardizing the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere she always created on her own projects. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/apple-acquires-luck-spellbound-from-skydance-animation

In news this week, Eitan and Carl discuss Apple's new distribution deal with Skydance Animation and the reopening of movie theaters in NYC. They also congratulate former Imagineering boss Joe Rohde on his next adventure at Virgin Galactic, and they take a look at a recently-announced Magic Kingdom Disney+ series from sci-fi legend Ronald D. Pixar’s unique fusion of cutting-edge technology with storytelling has changed the face of cinema and given us some memorable movies along the way. A key player behind-the-scenes has been Esdras Varagnolo, who contributed to lighting and compositing on Pixar movies including Ratatouille, Up and Cars 2, as well as shorts “La Luna,” “Piper” and “Lou.” As Esdras begins a new chapter in his life, at David Ellison’s Skydance Animation, he reflects on the technical innovations he’s helped make possible, from “shampositing” at Digital Domain to integrating deep compositing and Katana at Pixar. He reveals how Pixar uses its short films as testbeds for new technology, how Incredibles 2’s production schedule was slashed by 12 months and the fascinating reason why the company’s early characters had that iconic eye glint.
