If you think verbally you won't think about what cattle are seeing. Looked at providing pigs with things to enrich their environment. Success is something that everyone desires, but not everyone achieves. The journey toward success is often portrayed as glamorous, with an end goal of wealth, fame, and recognition. However, the reality is that the road to success is often a rocky and challenging one with many obstacles and setbacks. It can be dirty, lonely, and full of moments where one may question his choices and abilities. Consequently, the path toward success may often be lonely, as it may require stepping away from the crowd and going against the norm. It can be daunting, as it may mean leaving behind familiar faces and places. However, the willingness to take this leap of faith and trust oneself sets the successful apart from the rest. Moreover, while the road to success may require some level of independence and self-reliance, it is essential to note that the feeling of not belonging can also be limiting. When we feel like we do not fit in a particular group or environment, it can create a sense of self-doubt. It can also prevent us from reaching our full potential. We may hold ourselves back from opportunities because of fear that we are good enough. It is essential to recognize that success does not require conforming to a particular mold or fitting into a specific box. Instead, success is about embracing one's unique strengths and qualities and using them to achieve one's goals. As Dr. Burgess believes, "Life will try you, and every day, you can completely second guess even your knowledge and ability to perform." Kim is an interesting person with a fascinating story to tell! She has tons of experience and many health insights to share! She is joining us to talk about Gilda's Club, how they use meetings to help raise funds and awareness, and how Krav Maga has helped her become a better leader. Bio: Kim Praitano, MSW, CFRE Kim Praitano is the President & CEO of Gilda's Club South Florida, serving over 5000 people affected by cancer annually, addressing social determinants of health, and providing support services, renowned cancer education, and healthy lifestyle programs throughout South Florida. Kim has held executive leadership positions for nearly 40 years, working with various nonprofit organizations, and served as CEO of Dynamic Leadership Concepts, a consulting firm serving nonprofit organizations through professional development and capacity-building. Kim's family Kim's grandparents immigrated from Italy in the World War 2 era. Although her family owned nothing materially, they had strong values and a good work ethic. They taught Kim that quitting is never an option. That gave her the grit she needed to move forward in life. Education Education was always important to Kim. It was her refuge. Leadership After starting work, Kim constantly took leadership programs. She felt constant learning was vital because she knew where she wanted to go. A nonprofit leader Kim wanted to lead a nonprofit regardless of the services provided because they are all interrelated and important. She knew that a good leader was the key to the success of any organization. Funding Nonprofits do not necessarily get funded for infrastructures like human resources, finance, marketing, and advertising. Kim got certifications continuously to do those things because she knew no one would provide funds for them. Harvard Kim went to Harvard because they had leadership programs for nonprofit executives. Outcome Measurement was a program she found meaningful. Another was Excellence in Nonprofit Governance because, in a successful organization, the nonprofit leader will work collaboratively with the board to lead the organization. Board members Some of the Gilda's Club board members are experts in the areas Kim is not. They help create the vision and experience for the organization and assist Kim in overcoming any organizational challenges. Gilda's Club's mission The mission of Gilda's Club is to ensure that anyone impacted by cancer gets empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by the community. The community support part motivates Kim and many other Gilda employees to get up and go off to work every day. Servant leadership For Kim, servant leadership is ensuring she gives her staff members all the tools they need to do their jobs. The Gilda's Club activities Cancer patients require more than just medical treatment for good health outcomes. Many people also need assistance with things like housing, food, transportation, mental health insurance, physical fitness, and follow-up treatments. The Gilda's Club provides healthy living classes, like yoga, Thai Chi, and cooking, to help people do better after their clinical treatments. They also provide cancer education, mental health counseling, and support groups for cancer patients and their family members. Covid For two years, Covid interrupted cancer patients' regular screening schedules. Getting people screened has become significantly important now, especially in communities of color. Women of Color They have a Women of Color initiative at Gilda's Club where they help people re-partner to their screening via a mobile mammography health clinic. Events Gilda's Club has three major annual fundraisers to raise money and awareness and get people to start building a relationship with them. Krav Maga Fitness has always been important to Kim. Krav Maga gives her confidence and keeps her mind and body healthy. It strengthens her as a leader and helps her operate better as a CEO. The Education Savings Account Act of 2022 is a bi-partisan approach that provides the opportunity to have the funds follow the students so parents can decide which school offers the best options and learning experiences for their students. Additionally, extra funds not used before graduating high school can be saved for college or vocational schools. And the best part is that this comes at no additional cost to taxpayers. Here are some of the items that the Education Saving Account would provide parents: Students can opt into a K-12 savings account with $13,000 a year in state education funds. Parents can send their kids to an accredited school or homeschool of their choice. Funds can be used for tuition and other eligible education expenses. Children from low to medium-income families get initial access in the first four years. Up to $60,000 of leftover funds can be saved for college. Welcome to another exciting and informative episode of the Dara Gurus podcast! Sima is excited to have Katie Gross as her guest for today's podcast! Katie is the Chief Customer Officer at Suzy. In this episode, Katie discusses her background. She also shares her secret to being a successful woman and talks about what Suzy is doing to help and empower companies. Humble beginnings Katie grew up in Plymouth, England. Her mother wanted Katie and her siblings to have everything she did not have, so she insisted that all her children had the best education possible. Meeting different people Katie met people from different places and different walks of life when she was at university. Being surrounded by smart and ambitious people opened her eyes to exciting new possibilities for the future. Entering the market research space Katie got into the market research space partly by choice and partly accidentally. She studied psychology and criminal justice at university and came out of that with an SPSS skill set. She joined a food and beverage company in the UK that dealt primarily with Italian private label products in UK grocery stores. Then she moved to London and worked for Mintel on their consultancy team. Moving to sales Katie started working for Mintel as a researcher and later moved into a sales position, which she loved. Having come from a similar role in market research, she was genuinely curious about what her clients were using and how they were doing things. That made it easy for her to come up with solutions to help her clients operate better, faster, and in a more educated way. Staying in sales Initially, Katie thought she would only stay in sales long enough to pay off her student debt. However, she remained there when she finally realized how much she loved being in a sales role. A natural fit At the time, sales was mostly a hybrid of selling to new companies and renewing current clients. Since then, sales in most companies have been separated into sales and customer success. So it felt like a natural fit for Katie to have managed a combination of sales and customer success teams throughout her journey. Managing Katie enjoys helping to shape and mold the people she manages. She also loves to see them succeed. Moving to the USA Ten years ago, Mintel opened a new division in the USA. So they asked Katie to move there. A successful woman Katie wants to be a strong leader for both men and women. Her secret to being a successful woman is not allowing herself to dwell on the negative and sexist comments and helping those around her to do the same. At Suzy, there is a “Women at Suzy” group. The women also support each other. Suzy Suzy is different in that it owns a panel of its own. They are solving to eradicate the need for overlapping technologies in a fragmented market by moving everything into one place. A platform Suzy has created a platform where qualitative and quantitative can be integrated and run quickly and seamlessly with the same respondents. Two kinds of teams Some company's teams are getting empowered on their new journey of agile research by having a playbook and being educated around their new kind of responsibility. The more cumbersome bits are getting automated, giving them more time to be creative. Other companies, however, tend to buy a tool like Suzy's but do not know how to utilize it because they have never worked in an agile way before. Empowering Suzy is helping companies understand that they are there to help them automate and do things faster, and their tool will empower their teams rather than take away their roles and responsibilities. In this episode, Namrata Sharma discusses the existing connections between Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCE). She talks about her work examining the underlying paradigms and perspectives of GCE and ESD, and how she situates her studies within the wide-ranging scholarship that challenges the overall western-view of GCE. She also mentions the books that she has written where she proposes value-creating GCE as a pedagogical approach that she has developed from a study of less widely known perspectives, especially focusing on important contributions that come from eastern thinkers. Sharma illustrates these ideas with the example of Soka University, an institution which she believes successfully fosters global citizens. Finally, she makes connections between GCE and The Earth Charter, and how this document is helpful and complimentary to creating global citizens through ESD.

Navigating education with a special needs youngster can be tough and there's a real importance to keeping your youngster in mind when assessing whether a provision is right for them or not. Make sure you avail of any special needs coordinator support and educational psychology to support your case and park any emotion when it comes to making your case. The more logical and practical you are, I think, the better. What's first and foremost is your child's happiness in the setting you choose. It can be a challenging time but worth all the effort when you find the right setting. This is an experience of Special needs education here in the UK but nevertheless, the principles are the same.
