#236 Leonard Cohen - Happens To The Heart

7 Tage 1 Song

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 16, 2024 8:34

TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ FIEDEL Contrast. Objection. Antithesis. This is how you might start an attempt to describe the world. A seemingly chaos of shapes and thoughts that don't belong to each other. An overall image to be found in life and in music. But that's not Fiedel's view of the world. Where others make distinctions, he sees connections, where others find emptiness, he finds rooms full of opportunities. Finding those harmonies, connections and contexts marks out his musical work. The synthesis of apparently opposing music, the interaction and the mix of styles and moods, without loosing the storyline, that makes out the characteristic Fiedel sound. You can say one thing about Fiedel: he is no techno or house stereotype pattern, that you can put randomly on a every evening or club. He is lead by his history, the history of the music and the feeling of the moment to build something new and to capture this very moment. Andrew Daniels, Founder and Managing Director, InsurTech Ohio Andrew Daniels is the Founder and a Managing Director of InsurTech Ohio. Andrew's experience includes leading claims operations, launching new insurtech solutions with a major carrier innovation team, and advising early stage startups. Michael Fiedel, Managing Director, InsurTech OhioMichael Fiedel is a Managing Director of InsurTech Ohio and a co-founder of PolicyFly, a digital policy management system. Michael's expertise in the insurtech space includes leading product strategy and customer success, along with corporate initiatives across business development and marketing. Highlights from the Show InsurTech Ohio is trying to facilitate the community that has existed in Columbus and Ohio more broadly Andrew Daniels had been working in innovation at Allstate, talked to Ilya Bodner, founder of Bold Penguin, and was given access to the network of the InsurTech community in the state to try to build something sustainable to keep the movement going in the state Michael had been elsewhere in the US, and picked Columbus with his wife to settle down and raise their family, and found a very strong Insurance community in the state There seemed to be a growing sense of partnership in the state around helping raise the profile of Columbus and Ohio more broadly in the Insurance community in the US given how much is going on in the state There's a positive camaraderie across all of the geographic InsurTech communities that have been popping up around the US There are three or four reasons why communities exist "I want to be a part of a community" and talk about insurance with people, so sometimes you have to build it yourself if you want that There are some forward thinking carriers out there, and a lot are in Columbus and OH VCs hubbed in specific places, like Columbus What's missing in Ohio versus some other cities is more of an ecosystem of investment and startup coming in and out of the area, like in NYC or SF Things coming down the road 2021-2022 will be the year of embedded insurance and carriers spinning up with a focus on a very specific demographic Every carrier is searching for ways to be accessible across digital channels, and there is an arms race to try to be as accessible as possible; this has expanded to commercial lines, too, and is beyond the quote process Carriers will run through the standard innovation cycles, but more mature levels like at Progressive and AmFam have studios where they are looking at adjacent spaces they might be able to bring insurance solutions to. Commoditization is an interesting challenge that the industry is facing, especially as more things more digital as price becomes more front and center The hesitation from carriers isn't on innovation, it's that they want to build technology, but don't want to challenge their actuarial model The first wave of InsurTechs that have exited could help clarify what it takes to succeed We talked about Amazon since Insurance is about protecting people and things, and Amazon is the mother of all providers of things, so they will be front and center in much of the conversation around embedded insurance and other, similar ways the industry will change Advice for those looking at moving into Insurance or moving forward with a new idea Get involved in your community, and if you don't have one in your area, reach out to the InsurTech Ohio team for help and guidance so you can build one Talk to experts to learn and grow Don't hoard your idea as if you're the only one thinking of it as those who win is based on speed and passion, so anything that can help make it happen is worth it If you are solo, find others to work with you with complementary skills – there are no successful InsurTech startups that were founded by one person alone Don't be insular, engage This episode is brought to you by Medallia (Medallia.com), and the book series, "The Future of Insurance: From Disruption to Evolution" by Bryan Falchuk (future-of-insurance.com). Our second and third premiere of the day comes from Dublin based label Research, as we feature label head and long standing pillar of the Irish techno scene Aeron X T C, plus equally longstanding Irish producer Mode_1's tracks. This incredible 7 track compilation features a selection of talented Irish electronic artists, who have all submitted tracks to this compilation in aid of supporting the people of Palestine. 100% of the proceeds goes to this very worthy cause. From the label: In Palestine today, land is being stolen from families. Their houses are demolished to make way for illegal settlements. We’ve put together 7 tracks from some of our favourite Irish artists to help the children and innocent civilians in their battle for freedom. Longstanding Subject and Index resident, Mode_1 has garnered a name for himself as one of the most consistent and exciting releasing Irish artists of his time, gaining the respect of Slam & Fiedel to boot along the way. Uncompromising and utterly enthralling, ‘Close’ proves the Dublin native’s acclaim is more than merited. An undulating baseline drives the track with serious intent while an analogue riff dances around it, squirming in and out of the high and low-end of the filter gauge. The release is a true testament to his production skills, with expertly layered elements colluding to construct an engrossing atmosphere; equal parts uplifting and energising while maintaining the menacing and dark qualities of which his sound has become renowned. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music

Welcome to a Cinematic Sound Radio Network Interview Special featuring film composer, musician and writer Brad Fiedel. Raised in Bayville, New York on Long Island on March 10, 1951, Fiedel graduated from The Barlow School. After college, he became a popular and progressive composer, and in the 1980s, he worked on several successful movies, predominantly in the action and thriller genres, and pioneered the use of electronic instruments and synthesizers—almost disappearing from the mainstream at the end of the 1990s. He was the keyboardist for Hall and Oates. He began his career in film in the late 1970s, and wrote extensively for television films and minor cinema releases, until director James Cameron hired him to score the science fiction film The Terminator in 1984, setting the wheels in motion for a successful career. Since then, Fiedel has scored many popular and successful movies, including FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) and its sequel FRIGHT NIGHT PART 2 (1988), THE BIG EASY (1987), THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW (1988), THE ACCUSED (1988), BLUE STEEL (1990), TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY (1991), BLINK (1994), and TRUE LIES (1994). His last major theatrical score was in 1995, and although he enjoyed a brief period of renewed interest following the release of TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES in 2003, when Marco Beltrami wrote an orchestral arrangement of his TERMINATOR theme, Fiedel shows no sign of returning to the film music field. In recent years, Fiedel moved on to other creative areas, which has included writing original musicals. His latest is FULL CIRCLE. Based loosely on events from Fiedel’s grandfather’s life. The story centres on Sarah, a teenager who is stuck in her New York City Apartment. She is so sensitive and empathetic that she is no longer able to tolerate going out in public. She absorbs the feelings and thoughts of others so deeply that she loses control of her body movements, causing intolerable pain and embarrassment. The appearance of her mysterious estranged grandfather creates a possibility for them to work together trying to solve a mystery that has haunted the family for years and is the cause of much suffering. Working alone in his home studio, Fiedel was able to assemble various recordings he had of the songs, scenes and narration to create a complete audio experience of the show When plans for this spring fell apart including a trip to London for the premiere of his iconic Terminator score to be played live at the Royal Albert Hall, Brad Fiedel had a lot of time on his hands. “ Stuck at home, I decided to take the opportunity to complete this musical that had been needing my attention for a long time. It’s a project that’s very close to my heart and imagining people at home experiencing it really made the whole process feel worthwhile.” FULL CIRCLE, the two-act musical was released on all digital platforms on June 24th. In June 2020, for the Cinematic Sound Radio Network, Jason Drury talked to Brad Fiedel, via Zoom at his home in Santa Barbara, California. During the interview, we talked extensively about FULL CIRCLE as well as his film music career, his work on the TERMINATOR movies, working with James Cameron and why he decided to retire from film and TV music. Also during the show, we will hear songs from FULL CIRCLE, as well as music from the film scores of Brad Fiedel, in particular, from his 2 iconic scores, THE TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY. In unveränderter Besetzung. Da gibt's nix was die drei trennen könnte.

Everything is always all there. And everything has always been there. Whether you're looking, whether you knew where to look... Everything has always been there. Everything has always been this way. It's been all these ways all at once. You can choose what you look at, what you focus on, what you see, what patterns you notice. All the things are always happening altogether, and you tune in, and you tune out, and you tune... and you see what you are, and you see what you see, and you see what you recognize. And you see what creates interference patterns, what seems discordant. And you don't notice other things. You don't notice them until they're pointed out. You don't notice them until you grow that part of yourself. You don't notice them because you don't have a name for them, your language doesn't have a way. You don't notice them because they conflict with what you've been taught, because you don't believe in them, because you've been taught to be afraid of them. You don't notice them because they're in opposition to everything you believe in. But they're still all there. They're still all around you. The thing you just learned about, it's always been there. That new change in yourself, it's always been there. Things that seem good, things that seem evil, things that attract you. It's always been there. Nothing has ever changed. Except your awareness, and your awareness is going to keep changing. It's going to keep arcing, and developing, and looping, all the way 'til the end. And the only thing that's changing in the world is everyone's awareness. All the matter, the matter, the bits, they're the same. It might be in a different order, but they're the same. So, you can change your awareness. You can notice the awareness of others. Change... you can change, you can change others' awareness. You can't change. You can't change. You can't change anything. And everything that's happening, everything that's going on right now, it's never going to end, it's never going to start. You can try to own it, you can try to make it. You can be frustrated with it, you can walk away from it, you can not look at it, but it's still going to be there. This is here. This is in the air, and you can tune into the frequency that it's vibrating at, and you can choose to resonate with it, or you can lock into different frequencies. You can turn down your consciousness. You can overdose on something. But it's still going to be here, because it's here. It's here now. You can never get away from your past. It's here now in the frequency. You can look away. Just keep looking away. Keep looking at things to help you look away. If you focus on this point, you don't have to see that one. Keep turning things up louder and louder. The hair follicles in your eardrums...everything can be used up. You can use it all up. Or you can make it as healthy as it can be. And you can responsibly choose which things you look at, and what you think about. You can realize that your attention is your own. You can think about the responsibilities you have to use it. And you can actually make everything better. And there goes the world, getting better and better, thanks to you. London based Venice Calypso has spent the last 4 years disrupting the status quo of the city's close-knit techno community. Stylistically innovative and aesthetically bleak, Venice has played in multiple spaces from intimate, sweaty basements to more vast surrounds of London's leading nightclubs. With a sound that swoops from blistering techno to murkier, melancholic rhythms, Venice couldn't be more fitting for our Christmas Fiasco with Ostgut Ton's Fiedel, London's Dahc Demur VIII & more on Saturday, 15th December at the club. Ahead of the night, Venice shares a taster with us of what's to come on the night...
