In recent podcasts, we have talked a lot about ESG, and the corporate responsibilities companies must take into account in their day-to-day working. The ways in which consumers view companies has changed dramatically over the last two decades, and corporate reputation is more important than ever, and reputations and brands are scrutinized than ever before. To help us unpack the importance of corporate reputation, as well as the risks companies can incur by not upholding a positive reputation, we are honoured to be joined by Rupert Younger.Rupert Younger is the founder and director of Oxford University's Centre for Corporate Reputation and co-author of two books - The Reputation Game and The Activist Manifesto. He has published widely on matters related to legitimacy, status, stigma, celebrity, reputation, and trust. He chaired The University of Oxford's Socially Responsible Investment Committee (2012-2017) and is a member of the Senior Common Rooms at Wooster College Oxford and St Antony's College Oxford. His views are regularly featured in major news outlets including the BBC, CNN, the Financial Times, and The Wall Street Journal. Outside of Oxford, he is an Ambassador for the international mine clearance charity The HALO Trust and was appointed by HM Queen Elizabeth II as her High Sheriff of Hampshire for 2013-14. Rupert also co-founded the strategic communications consulting firm FGS Global.

The week of Queen Elizabeth's funeral was a wild one from the vantage point here in America. Social media was divided, the royal rift got worse, and there were too many emotional moments to count. Join Fiona, Neil and Jen for the fourth season of The Outspoken Bible as they talk their way through the gospel of John in pursuit of old truths and fresh insights. This episode, which was recorded prior to the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II, patron of Scottish Bible Society, leads in into the next Chapter of John's gospel. Jen is preparing for her epic voyage to South America and Neil has been on holiday. Meanwhile, Fiona's been loafing around looking for someone to take Jen's place during September. Glover's Off is Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings. Jen's Gem is on the significance of having a tissue and listening to bullied teenagers. The main discussion is on John 15, a chapter which, like a vintage bottle of wine, is packed full of fruit, has complex notes and provokes deep conversation about love, hate and friendship. This episode was engineered and edited by Aimee Higgins. ------- Show Notes The Outspoken Bible is hosted by Fiona Stewart, Neil Glover and Jen Robertson. Each episode consists of a main section where the three contributors discuss a Bible passage, a 'Glover's Off' section where Neil shares something that is giving him pause for thought in parish ministry, and a 'Jen's Gem' where Jen shares a helpful application or resource for anyone working in youth and family ministry. All opinions are those of the individual contributors and don't necessarily reflect the view of the Scottish Bible Society as an organisation. ------- John For Everyone Part 2 (Tom Wright) ------- Light and Life resources ------- Get in touch here or by emailing outspoken@scottishbiblesociety.org. ------- If you're reading along with us, then next time we'll be talking about John 16. Richard Stone has painted portraits of the Royal Family for more than four decades. At the age of 22, he became Britain's youngest royal portrait artist since Sir Thomas Lawrence painted Queen Charlotte in 1790 at the age of 21. Although he has had little formal art training, Richard Stone's success is a direct result of a natural talent and a strong determination to succeed in the career he has pursued since childhood.Born in 1951 the son of a Colchester postman, Richard began cultivating his talent following an accident at the age of four that left him with a fractured skull and permanent deafness in his right ear. The young artist began sketching in a notebook and later painted to communicate with his family and teachers, demonstrating a keen sense of perspective and mixing colours. From the age of eight, he was actively encouraged by his next-door neighbour, Frederick Heron. An amateur Essex painter, Heron taught Richard the basics of art. Then when he was fourteen, Richard went to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, where he saw a portrait by Sir Gerald Kelly. With the directness that has subsequently characterised his career, he wrote to Sir Gerald, saying how much he had admired the portrait and asking if he could possibly help and advise him. The result was prompt. Sir Gerald could offer him all the reasons against being a portrait painter, but if he would like to call and see him, and bring his work, he was welcome. Richard took along what work he had done, listened to Sir Gerald's reasons, and would not be dissuaded. It was the start of a friendship that was to last until Sir Gerald's death in 1972.Sir Gerald had been an ideal tutor. With his help and advice, Richard set about becoming a portrait painter. The achievements are formidable. Following Sir Gerald's advice, he started knocking on doors in an attempt to find work, and he was successful. One of his earliest subjects was Sir Arthur Bliss, the Master of the Queen's Musick. As well as Sir Adrian Boult, another contact Richard made was at Clarence House, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother's London residence. When he was put through to the Comptroller of the Household, Lord Adam Gordon, Richard made his mark with a memorable phrase, “Don't ring off, I could be the latter-day Rembrandt”. This singular lack of modesty paid off and Lord Adam listened to his reasons for wanting to paint the Queen Mother. After accepting a commission to produce a likeness of Lady Adam Gordon, Richard was invited to paint the Queen Mother's portrait. The finished work was greeted with tremendous critical acclaim, but many were sceptical that the young artist could sustain a successful career.Defying the critics, Richard saw this as the first step that would lead to the achievement of his childhood ambition. Unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery in 1992, his portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II is his most famous work. Commissioned by the burghers of Colchester, the eight-foot by five-foot canvas hangs today in the town's Moot Hall, and represents three years of work and some seven sittings. The portrait has been hailed as one of the finest painted during Her Majesty's reign and was subsequently chosen by Her Majesty as the Royal Mail airmail stamp. To commemorate HM becoming Britain's Longest Reigning Monarch, Richard was commissioned by The Realms to paint Her Majesty's portrait again in 2015. Upon completion, it was acquired by The Royal Collection and now hangs in St James's Palace, London.Richard continues to paint senior members of the Royal Family, alongside other prestigious commissions. His sitters have included Nelson Mandela, Luciano Pavarotti, Baroness Thatcher, Dame Joan Sutherland and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.Richard is married and has a son and two daughters. He lives in Colchester where he maintains a studio. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

#171. In the wake of the recent state funeral for HM Queen Elizabeth II, we take a moment to nod to our friends in Great Britain. We also, in our admitted ignorance, discuss our fascination with the idea of a current first world monarchy and the pageantry found in its midst. Then we discuss taco juice and Walmart shirts as prompted by a middler. We follow that with an epic story of a different middler's bathroom experience, then another potential epic of Batman vs Iron Man. Two smart guys with tech instead of traditional superpowers have a fake fight. We try to predict the winner. After the break, we dive into modern fashion and realize that we are old enough to not get it. Kendall shares how heartless he is with birthday cards, we discuss the underrated recording artist Ben Rector, and Dillon wants to make video games fun again. Dominic and Erica discuss the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
After we have laid our HM Queen Elizabeth II to rest, time seems to be revealing what she meant to me. She was a symbol of duty, service and purpose. I edited this conversation with Computer Engineer, Sanskriti Devi with this in mind and what I have learned from our Queen and see from Sanskriti is that knowing one's purpose in life is key. Knowing what you were put on this Earth to do, allows you to focus and surrender to your role. It seems that Sanskriti is unravelling and following her true purpose in STEM and it's working out for her.

The world watches as HM Queen Elizabeth II passes away and Prince Charles becomes King Charles III. Will the war in Ukraine throw large parts of the developed world into recession, and will Ukraine's biggest supporters stay the course Threats of political violence a year and a half after January 6th are now focusing on individual lawmakers. One case in point is Washington State Congresswoman Pramila Jaypal. Bans against abortion by some state legislatures are beginning to be re-thought. And you didn't think we'd get by without talking about that former president, did you? No, not Barack Obama, who called his wife “fine”, another one.

Today we’ll be looking at your questions regarding Queens and Consorts. Recently I posted a trivia questions on Facebook: Who was crowned in the SEVEN Tudor coronations? This raised a host of questions about Tudor Queens and Consorts, so I thought this would be a good time to jump right into that Queen versus Queen Consort question. And we’ll also take a quick look at those Tudor coronations. A regnant Queen is a woman who inherits and reigns in her own right. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II inherited the throne from her father, King George VI. She is the reigning monarch. Her claim to the throne is her own, not based on marriage to a king. If Prince Philip dies before Her Majesty, she will remain the Queen. When she dies, she will be succeeded by her heir, Prince Charles.Because of the laws of succession, which until 2013 were based on preference for a male ruler, there are far more reigning Kings than Queens. Most of these Kings had wives, so we also have numerous Queen Consorts. The Queen Consort is the woman married to the male monarch. So, most recently, during the reign of King George VI, his wife was known as Queen Elizabeth and served as Queen Consort. This ended when the king died and their daughter became Queen Elizabeth II. (Their both being named Elizabeth is confusing, I agree—the current Queen is Queen Elizabeth II, her mother was known as Queen Elizabeth during her husband’s reign. Queen Consorts do not have a number.) Throughout British history, the roles of Queens and Queen Consorts have shaped the perception and success of those around them. From the Empress Matilda to HM Queen Elizabeth II, the influence of royal women has changed everything!
Mary Kennedy meets former president and author Mary McAleese. “Mary McAleese - President of Ireland from 1997 to 2011, the first person from Northern Ireland to hold that role. She is a barrister and academic lawyer qualified in both civil law and Catholic Church canon law. She was the first female Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Queen’s University Belfast and is currently Professor of Children, Religion and Law at the University of Glasgow. She is Chancellor of Trinity College, Dublin where she held her first academic post as Reid Professor. She was born into a Catholic family in North Belfast’s Ardoyne in 1951. Northern Ireland, to quote David Trimble its one time Ulster Unionist First Minister, was then “a cold house for Catholics”. The eldest of nine children, Mary’s family experienced first-hand the political and sectarian violence which dragged on for decades destroying lives, relationships and hopes. Her response to the challenge of such a bitterly divided society was to become deeply involved in promoting anti-sectarianism, reconciliation and inter-religious dialogue. She was co-author of a seminal report on the Churches’ response to sectarianism which was jointly commissioned by the Catholic Church and the Irish Council of Churches (which represents the main Protestant Churches). The theme of her Presidency was Building Bridges and throughout her fourteen years in office she worked to heal the fractured politico/sectarian relationships on the island of Ireland and between Ireland and Britain. Her ambition was to replace a culture of deep distrust with one of good neighbourliness especially extending the hand of friendship to the hard to reach Loyalist communities. In 2011 she invited and hosted HM Queen Elizabeth II on the first state visit to the Irish Republic by a British monarch. After leaving office in 2011 she spent the following three years living in Rome and studying at the Pontifical Gregorian University where she obtained a licentiate and doctorate in canon law. In 2019 she was awarded the Alfons Auer Award in Ethics of the Catholic Faculty of Theology at the University of Tubingen. In 2020 she received the Woman of Courage Award of UNANIMA International at a ceremony in the United Nations HQ, New York.”
