In this special Valentine's Day week episode of The Skeptical Shaman podcast, host Rachel White (of TOTEM Readings) chats with Katie May: host of the Love Wild Podcast, founder of Embrace Yourself Whole Coaching, and creator of The Sacred Year Project and Sacred Mother Sanctuary. The upshot of their chat? Self-love and re-wilding are crucial ingredients to a happy, whole life-- never mind a loving relationship with anyone else (including our pets and children)! The Year of the Wood Snake (2025) is going to bring in more of the yin energy-- a welcome downshift from the hardcore yang of the Wood Snake Year. The potential downside of all these lady vibes? Grief. Surrender. Being instead of doing. And, while all of this might sound like a welcome change, they're generally pretty challenging to navigate IRL. After all: the map is not the territory. But here's the silver lining report: Katie and Rachel have some pragmatic tips and tricks to make the most of this molting-- and how to relearn to re-wild and "be" instead of "do". Kid and Gdub dealt with some tech bullshit because, let's face it, technology's a fucking whore that loves to screw us over. Kid A.G. was in full "get off my lawn" mode, bitching about his kids and how all he wants is to record this shit and pass out. But no, we had to dive balls deep into the dark web of "creepsearch.com” - Kid A.G.'s latest project where he plans to fuck with people's heads by linking directly to their social media. Then we got into some fucked up equality - we decided to make creep search "fair" by focusing solely on hot female teachers who molest their students, because if men can be pervs, why can't women join the fun? It's all about equal opportunity in this shithole. We also talked about how the internet has turned us all into fucking freaks with niche fetishes. From pink chain links to having fruit flies circle your ass, if you can imagine it, you can probably jerk off to it. And let's not forget the revelation of micropenises - thanks to the internet for normalizing that shit. But then, the mood darkened. We reminisced about the time we found hot chicks online only for them to kick the bucket shortly after. Katie May, a model we were all drooling over, was dead the next day. It's like we're cursed or some shit. We took a trip back to the '90s, the era when getting online was like discovering the fucking holy grail, where finding nudes was an adventure, and transferring files was like performing magic. And holy fuck, we couldn't not talk about Pastor James Manning, that homophobic bastard who ranted about how the only way gays and lesbians could buy his church is if they gave birth through their assholes. Now that's setting some twisted standards for property ownership. We ended this shitfest by giving Black History Month the middle finger, crowning Whoopi Goldberg as "hottie of the week" - because we're equal opportunity offenders here. Ulaakkuut everybody! Join Kate and Teacher for part one of two, of In the North & in Every Major City. Part one is taking us back up to Nunavut with Katie May Anawak Dunford! Just to get us started Inuit Nunangat are the traditional and current homelands of Inuit people, made up of 53 communities across four regions - the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (northern Northwest Territories), Nunavut, Nunavik (northern Quebec) and Nunatsiavut (northern Labrador). Fun fact: the northern coast makes up 50% of Canada's coastline!?! Inuit live across the circumpolar region in countries including Alaska (USA), Chukotka (Russia), Greenland and of course - the country currently known as Canada. Inuit in Canada are the largest non-crown landowners in the country thanks to land claim agreements finalized in 1993 that resulted in the establishment of Nunavut as a third territory. These agreements were a long time coming and many Inuit fought hard throughout the 70's and 80's for the return of their land and to protect their rights to hunt, fish and trap. Join us in welcoming Katie May to the show!

For the second straight week, we are talking to someone who built their business based on sustainability. Katie May, who opened May's Place in 2019, worked in retail her whole life, and had seen enough of the corporate fashion world to know that there's just too much waste involved with what we wear. So she took her love of vintage clothes and her knowledge of the fashion world and built a business. It's a business built on the idea that anyone can wear what makes them feel empowered, and they can do it without creating more waste or being a less conscious consumer. It might not have been the easiest route to go, but by forging ahead, Katie helped build an environment in St. Louis that not only supports sustainable, locally-focused businesses but showcases the collaborative power of the Gateway City. So let's meet Katie.

Tina Fontaine's death and the murder trial that followed captivated Canadians everywhere. Now what? In this double-interview episode, Sandra Delaronde, co-chair of the Manitoba Coalition for Families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, talks about how the community is coping with the verdict and how tragedy can bring positive change. Katie May is the “Group Guru”. She works exclusively with teenagers in a teen support center in Flourtown, Pennsylvania. Groups energize Katie. She says that groups can’ save th’e world. In groups, people feel less alone in their struggles and they start to heal in ways that individual therapy can’t provide. Her groups are focused on the ideas of connection. She told us about a group that she runs that looks at being nonjudgmental for teens. She talked about using rocks to illustrate the judgements that they have for themselves. She has them decorate the rocks to describe the judgements and toss them away as a concrete expression of getting rid of their judgements. The teens put the rocks in a bag, weigh them and then toss them away into the water. This helps with processing of letting go of the judgements. Sometimes her groups do a “compliment circle” to express and receive kindness from others. Her pre and post assessment of their state of happiness improves after the kindness circle occurs. Katie prefers clear names for groups, rather than clever names. This helps to make the process for the parents and caregivers looking for support for their child finding the groups simple and understanding . Many times, teens can present with resistance towards therapy. Katie runs a skills group for teens. The connection that they have with each other is really important. She offers Dialectical Behavioral Therapy that she infuses in many of her groups. She provides experiential activities to help them actually know what works for them and how it feels. Pros Group therapy helps clients feel understood and connected to a positive support system. When people can connect with their peers to feel less alone. Social support is so very important and can be a positive experience. Cons Group therapy isn’t the best setting for deeper individual work that may involve trauma. Also, it can be challenging to balance time between the group members. Another con is that the group members’ personalities don’t always mesh. It’s so important to build trust and let the relationships form before diving into tough stuff. It’s important to put yourself into the group member’s shoes. http://www.becomeagroupguru.com https://playtherapycommunity.simplero.com/page/73863-free-download-tips-for-supporting-grieving-children https://www.facebook.com/PLAYTHERAPYCOMMUNITY/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/parentingintherain/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/1130971706932394/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/schoolcounselors/ https://www.facebook.com/counselinginbrevard/ www.counselinginbrevard.com www.playtherapycommunity.com www.parentingintherain.com www.jackieflynnconsulting.com https://twitter.com/jackieflynnrpt
