We welcome Brad Bechel to this episode of Dave Tate's Table Talk Podcast!   Brad Bechel is the Head Coach of the McKendree University Powerlifting Team and a cornerstone in the collegiate powerlifting scene. With a lifting career dating back to the early 2000s, Brad has worn many hats in the strength world—athlete, coach, gym owner, physical therapist assistant, and Army veteran. His well-rounded background and relentless work ethic have fueled one of the most consistently successful collegiate programs in the country.   Since taking over as head coach in 2021, Brad has led McKendree University to multiple top-five national finishes at Collegiate Nationals and helped produce standout athletes, including two collegiate national champions and two IPL world champions. His team also secured an IPL North American Team Championship under his guidance. Prior to that, he served as the team's assistant coach from 2019 to 2021, helping to lay the groundwork for their current dominance.   Brad's coaching philosophy centers around developing strong foundations, especially among youth and junior athletes. He sees strength training as more than just lifting—it's a tool for discipline, confidence, and lifelong growth. His passion for mentoring the next generation is evident both on the platform and off.   Beyond McKendree, Brad serves as the USAPL Illinois State Chair, actively shaping the sport at a regional level. His experience spans federations and athlete levels, making him a well-rounded and respected leader in powerlifting. From 2014 to 2018, Brad worked as a physical therapist assistant and gym owner, which gave him a deep understanding of movement quality, recovery, and athlete longevity.   Brad's educational background includes a B.S. in Healthcare Management and an A.A.S. in Physical Therapist Assisting. He also served in the U.S. Army from 2005 to 2009, a period that helped forge the discipline and leadership he brings to every coaching role.   Follow Brad's coaching and team updates on Instagram: @coach_bradly_bechel     THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS  Get 10% OFF Your Next Marek Health Labs (CODE: TABLETALK): https://marekhealth.com/ Get a FREE LMNT Sample Pack: https://partners.drinklmnt.com/free-gift-with-purchase?utm_campaign=agwp&am…   Save Up to $315 at Sleepme: https://sleep.me/tabletalk Get 10% OFF RP Hypertrophy App (CODE: TABLE TALK) :https://go.rpstrength.com/hypertrophy-app/  Get 10% OFF at elitefts (CODE: TABLE TALK): https://www.elitefts.com/  Get 10% OFF at Granite Nutrition (CODE TABLETALK): https://granitenutrition.com/ Save $250 at the Business of Strength Retreat 2025 (CODE: Elite250): https://bosretreat.com/     SUPPORT THE SHOW    All profits from elitefts Limited Edition Apparel, Table Talk Coffee, and Team elitefts Workouts, Programs, and Training eBooks support Dave Tate's Table Talk Podcast.    elitefts Shop: https://www.elitefts.com/  elitefts IG: https://www.instagram.com/elitefts/    elitefts  Limited Edition Apparel: https://www.elitefts.com/shop/apparel/limited-edition.html

The McKendree University community has been transformed by a more diverse faculty and student body, state-of-the-art facilities, a rich curriculum and presence in the arts, a focus on service, and graduating young men and women who are successful in every field and walk of life.” He also spent 27 years at the University of Southern California and is the co-founder of Cousins Camp (perhaps one of his greatest achievements).Quote From This Episode"There's nothing much better than having grandkids, having them nearby, interacting with them, and being a very small part of their lives. On today's episode, U.S. wrestler (and Marvel superfan) Alexis Porter joins the show to discuss her illustrious wrestling career and a tough decision she's recently made regarding it. But before that, Alexis and Troy get real while talking about AP's unfortunate experiences as a Black woman in America and how they pushed her to become an activist. We also talk about Colorado and Troy nerds out over NFTs. Alexis Porter is a 24-year-old currently living in Colorado Springs, CO. Since 2008, she's dreamt about representing the U.S.A. in the Olympics. AP made her high school varsity wrestling team in 7th grade, eventually winning all sorts of honors and national recognition. She then wrestled at McKendree University in Illinois, helping create a program (as an Adidas athlete!) that is now one of the best in the country. She graduated with a degree in professional writing. After McKendree, she continued her training at the University of Wyoming, where she also attends graduate school. Right now, she lives with her boyfriend and enjoys superheroes and speaking her mind. Her younger brother, Jesse, is also very close to achieving his own Olympic dream. Today's cause: Black Wrestling Association, which inspires, connects and empowers Black wrestlers and allies to grow through wrestling, representation, equality and opportunity. Memorable quotes: "I can say, honestly, this past year has been horrible, but also illuminating in a positive way because I think finally people are starting to see the kind of injustices that Black people have been seeing for generations." - AP on racism in America "It's crazy to believe that people today in 2021 still think this way. But that just goes to show how much work there has to be done because the scars that were created 400 years ago have never healed." - AP on activism "There's a certain stigma among depression and mental health issues for athletes. Because you are the tough people. You're the ones that are supposed to get through anything. You can go get treatment for your hurt knee, but not necessarily your hurt brain. And you are seen as weak by your teammates and your coaches." - Troy on mental health issues among athletes "We all have DNA. We are all citizens of the planet Earth. Let's take care of the planet. Let's take care of each other and just love. Love solves all things. It solves all problems. I'm not better than you. You are not better than me. Let's co-exist together peacefully, happily." - Troy on treating others right
