Send us a textThis program previously aired 07/23/2022GUEST: ALEX NEWMAN, Journalist and Author, Crimes of the EducatorsIt's axiomatic—the one who teaches children is the one who shapes their worldview, and thus, society at large. The Bible assigns the teaching and training of children to parents. “Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).But of course, God-rejecting man has a “better” idea—remove children from the (redefined) home to be indoctrinated by government “educators” for up to 40 hours each week from age four to 18. With a government that ignores the most important truth in life—God exists and has spoken in Scripture—how do you think that will turn out for the kids?Turns out, just as planned. John Dewey (1859-1952), considered the “Father of the Modern American Public Education System” said: “There is no God and there is no soul. Hence, there are no needs for the props of traditional religion. With dogma and creed excluded, immutable truth is also dead and buried.”In case you're not convinced, Dr. Chester Pierce, Professor of Education and Psychology at Harvard University, said at the Childhood International Education Seminar in 1973:“Every child who enters school at age 5 is mentally ill because he enters school with an allegiance toward our elected officials, our founding fathers, our institutions, the preservation of this form of government we have, patriotism, nationalism, sovereignty… All this proves that the children are sick, because a truly well individual is one who has rejected all those things and is what I would call the international child of the future.”Mission accomplished. Taxpayer-funded, federal government-mandated public education has shaped generations of the “international child” with unsuspecting parents losing almost all influence. The moral confusion that reigns in our children and nation today shouldn't be surprising.International journalist Alex Newman joins us for a second week on The Christian Worldview to discuss what government education has become and what Christian parents should do. Alex is the author Crimes of the Educators: How Utopians Are Using Government Schools to Destroy America's Children, CEO of Liberty Sentinel Media and a senior editor for The New American Magazine.---------------------------Indoctrinating Our Children to DeathAlex Newman documents the untold history behind government education and its founders like nobody has ever done before. This resource was published after this program aired in 2022.Education Resources in MN

You finally commit to that project you've been putting off for years. You dive in with enthusiasm, start making real progress, and then reality hits. It's smaller than you dreamed, less impressive than you imagined, especially when compared to what others have accomplished. That's exactly where we find God's people three weeks into rebuilding the temple. The older folks who remembered Solomon's magnificent temple were saying, 'This is nothing compared to what we had before.' The workers were getting discouraged. And that's when God shows up with His promise: 'The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former” not because of outward appearances, but because God dwells within and will bless his people.  The Rev. David Boisclair, senior pastor at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Overland, MO, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Haggai 2.  To learn more about Our Redeemer, visit ourredeemerstl.org. The Persian king Cyrus issues an astonishing decree: the exiles may go home. Among them are the Jews—God's chosen people—whom this pagan ruler not only repatriates, but commands to rebuild the temple of the Lord. Ezra 1–4 tells of their return, the joy of restored worship, and the crushing opposition that brings construction to a standstill. Then the prophets Haggai and Zechariah speak with God's authority, calling His people to courage, repentance, and hope. In Ezra 5–8 the temple is completed, worship flourishes, and hearts are renewed in God's Word. This series on Thy Strong Word follows the events in the order they happened, revealing how the Lord moves kings and prophets, overcomes opposition, and restores His people. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. In this episode of the Mutuality Matters podcast from CBE International, hosts Mimi and Charel speak with Dr. Jeannine Brown who discusses the pressing need to interpret the Biblical text of 1 Peter 3:1–7 within its first-century Greco-Roman context. Dr. Brown emphasizes the importance of understanding the cultural and historical background behind the passages on submission, particularly 1 Peter 3:1–7. She explores how Peter's household codes provide agency to often marginalized groups like wives and slaves, contrary to the hierarchical norms of the time. The conversation underscores the relevance today of recognizing and respecting context while interpreting Biblical texts—an essential factor for both scholars and modern readers.    00:00 Introduction to Mutuality Matters  00:02 Exploring the Context of Submission in 1 Peter  00:49 Welcome and Introductions  01:33 Reading and Analyzing 1 Peter 3:1-7  02:57 Cultural Background and Interpretation  03:37 Household Codes in the Greco-Roman World  07:24 Missional Moments and Divided Households  08:20 Challenges for Christian Wives in the First Century  10:03 Slavery and Moral Agency in 1 Peter  11:28 Understanding Peter's Use of Household Codes  16:50 Modern Interpretations and Misconceptions  27:46 The Role of Headings in Biblical Interpretation  30:15 Instructions for Husbands in 1 Peter 3:7  36:30 Exploring Social and Physical Vulnerability  37:19 Interpreting 'Weaker Vessel' in Context  38:02 Challenging Traditional Views on Gender Roles  40:18 Co-Heirs and Inheritance in Early Christianity  41:50 Family Metaphors in 1 Peter  43:37 Egalitarian Impulses in the New Testament  45:28 Household Codes and Their Implications  50:08 Suffering for Good and Loyalty to Jesus  52:47 Translation Challenges and Responsibilities  58:01 Applying 1 Peter in Modern Contexts  01:04:03 Conclusion and Further Resources    Guest Bio: Dr. Jeannine Brown   Jeannine Brown is professor of New Testament at Bethel Seminary and Program Director of Bethel Seminary's Online programs. Jeannine thoroughly enjoys teaching in churches and ministries on the topics of Bible interpretation and the New Testament. She is married to Tim Brown, singer-songwriter, and has two adult daughters.  Story Notes  Today's podcast focused on 1 Pet 3:1–7. In the NIV it reads:  "Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear. Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers."   Exploring the cultural background, Jeannine suggests that Peter is calling Christians to display behaviors that reflect Christ even as male dominance was a given. Jeannine explained that in the first century, Roman interest in well-organized households should mirror a well-organized Rome. Roman citizens were to live harmoniously within a well-organized Roman household. Where the passage makes a surprising move is in the call for husbands to have empathy for their wives with a consequence: that God will hear their prayers. Further Christian wives should view themselves beyond the cultural standard of female beauty. As the passage states: it's not the adorning of women's outer selves but their inner lives of faith in God. Doing right, and with faith that does not give into fear given God is ultimately in control. This passage is countercultural in its emphasis on Christian faith and the development of a peaceful inner life both of which acknowledge God's supremacy versus that of emperor's.     This passage calls both husbands and wives to do what is right: to be brave, to have faith in God who rules over all of Rome's emperors, verse 7, to live within a culture with very differing values that offend Christian moral life. In this passage there is a tension in negotiating life lived in a culture at odds with Christian values, supremely concerning the divinity Jesus, or that of an emperor. While Jesus died on a Roman cross, even so, the passage evokes faith and courage in Christian households. The passage is helpful to missionaries in similar circumstances. How to live with courage and faith, elevating the gospel with behavior more often than words in a culture that exploited slaves and women.     Turning to 1 Peter 3:7 that reads:  "Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers."     The Petrine texts lean into sibling language, especially that of children, which overall is very egalitarian in the cultural context of first century. Further, the language of “father” was not very much present in NT as it was in 1st century non-Christian texts. God's children in Christ were to face each other in humility and this very egalitarian impulse in relating to one another. God is father, but in Christ we're all siblings. Women and men are co-heirs is throughout NT. Leadership structure are notes but not ones in the NT.     The whole Petrine text is a significant challenge to the top-down rule from emperor as God down throughout the household structure which was central. Given what Peter is doing with family metaphors—of believers as children / siblings who are to love earnestly as family love each other, and as the elders are a group too much have wisdom but must lead by example. These impulses, leader on top, and wife below: this does simplify decisions, but this is not the texture of Peter. As he thinks of his context, and the household code, it is not a prescription but a triage—a pathway for healing top-down leadership. It's what Christians do in an emergency. Emergency advice to the Christian community so it can survive. It's about survival for the most vulnerable. The thrust of text is a call to attentiveness to the most vulnerable. In light of Tom Holland's book—Dominion: How the Christian Revolution Remade the World—in brutal detail reveals the cruelty of Rome. In thinking of our next, the advice is that even if you suffer for doing good, you are blessed. And take comfort in that truth and knowledge that even those who slanders you, remain loyal to Christ, if you suffer as Jesus did, you will also share in his glory.  In fascinating detail, Jeannine describes the history of Bible translation and the canonical review that follows. For the NIV team, on which she contributes, their voting policy requires a 75% majority in approving translation choices. Thus, the team must make a compelling case to change something, so for 1 Peter, and the NT generally, it's always wise to examine and read many translations to see differences.     In considering the backdrop in which the text arises, submission is not a new requirement. What is new for this culture is to ask that all behavior must be Christ-like. While believers are clearly frightened by opposition to Christian faith, the text calls them to act in ways that others will recognize their soul-allegiance to Christ. Win others over to Christ not out of fear but confident behavior that imitates Christ's live. Jeannine recommends entering the text with a disciplined imagination that brings implications of texts to life then and now. Idolatry is key issue underlining the concerns in this text which encourages faith and living life not with words but by example.   Jeannine points listeners to the following resources:  Nijay Gupta's book, Tell Her Story: How Women Led, Taught and Ministered in the Early Church.   Listen to Jeannine Brown's Hayward Lectures at Acadia Divinity College  Jeannie will resume this conversation in subsequent episodes of Women and Worlds: Exploring the Difficult Passages.    Disclaimer  The opinions expressed in CBE's Mutuality Matters' podcast are those of its hosts or guests and do not purport to reflect the opinions or views of CBE International or its members or chapters worldwide. The people of God in Ezra's time experienced opposition strikingly similar to what many Christians face today. Societies and governments have changed, but the tactics haven't. Ezra 4 reveals three familiar strategies: syncretistic offers of "unity" that require compromising the Gospel, bureaucratic warfare that weaponizes legal systems against believers, and the use of government power to forcibly shut down God's work. When the Jews reject their neighbors' insincere help to rebuild the Temple, these adversaries shift from being conciliatory to spreading misinformation and bribing officials to stop the work entirely. Ezra even points forward to examples of God's opponents securing royal decrees to stop the reconstruction of Jerusalem itself as examples of the opposition God's people face in this world.  The Rev. Dr. Curtis Deterding, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Myers, FL, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Ezra 4.  To learn more about Zion Lutheran, visit zionfmdev.wpcomstaging.com. The discussion centers on how diverse ethnic backgrounds can enrich our understanding of Scripture, particularly in the context of First Peter's exhortation for believers to embody unity and humility amidst societal challenges. Dr. Ok articulates the significance of diaspora and identity, elucidating how these themes resonate with contemporary Asian American experiences of marginalization and belonging. Through this discourse, we aim to confront preconceived notions regarding scriptural interpretation, advocating for a broader inclusivity that acknowledges varied cultural lenses. Join us as we explore the transformative potential of recognizing and embracing our multifaceted identities within the Christian faith. The dialogue between Joshua Noel and TJ Blackwell with Dr. Janette Ok unveils a profound exploration of Asian American perspectives in biblical scholarship, particularly through the lens of her contributions to "The New Testament in Color: A Multiethnic Bible Commentary." Dr. Ok, an adept scholar with a rich background rooted in the Korean American church, articulates the significance of understanding the Bible through diverse cultural lenses. The conversation delves into the complexities surrounding the interpretation of Scripture, emphasizing that the experiences and identities of Asian Americans are not monolithic. Dr. Ok elucidates how factors such as migration, heritage, and racialization inform the Asian American reading of biblical texts, thus enriching the theological discourse. As the discussion progresses, the hosts and Dr. Ok navigate the dichotomy of traditional interpretation versus contemporary approaches that embrace plurality, highlighting the necessity of recognizing various cultural contexts when engaging with Scripture. This episode serves as a clarion call for inclusivity within theological discussions, urging listeners to appreciate and integrate diverse voices into their understanding of the Christian faith.Takeaways: Dr. Janette Ok emphasizes the importance of understanding diverse perspectives in biblical interpretation, especially from marginalized communities. The concept of diaspora in First Peter illustrates the Christian experience of alienation and the need for community among believers. Asian American biblical hermeneutics offers unique insights by connecting cultural identity with theological discourse and scripture interpretation. The New Testament in Color commentary aims to enrich biblical scholarship by incorporating multiethnic voices and perspectives that challenge traditional interpretations. Janette Ok discusses the significance of recognizing one's social location when engaging with biblical texts to foster humility and interdependence. Have you ever cried in worship? Maybe it was a familiar hymn that carried you through a dark valley, memories of loved ones who once sat beside you, or seeing your children receive the faith you once received or lamenting that they've strayed from it. Ezra 3 reveals a moment when an entire congregation experienced both sorrowful tears and shouts of joy so intermingled that no one could distinguish between them. The people are returning from exile, the work of rebuilding the Temple has begun, and foundations are being laid—not just of stone and cedar, but of a renewed life with God.  The Rev. John Lukomski, co-host of Wrestling with the Basics on KFUO Radio, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Ezra 3. Find Wrestling with the Basics at kfuo.org/wrestlingwiththebasics. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Today's shout-out goes to Pat & Lori Kinney from St. Paul, MN. Thank you for your generosity and partnership in Project 23. This one's for you. Read more about it here: PROJECT23 Our text today is Mark 15:16-20: And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor's headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion. And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him.— Mark 15:16-20 Imagine the governor's courtyard, a legion of soldiers gathered. They strip the King of his robes—only to dress him in a cruel mockery of royalty. They crown him with thorns—pain woven into every spike. They salute him with disdainful words: “Hail, King of the Jews!” They beat him, spit on him, and kneel in fraudulent tribute. And through it all, Jesus endures. He stands unmoved by mockery because he came to bear our shame and absorb our scorn. Every insult hurled at him echoes the sins he carried. Every strike echoes the curse we deserved. This is the cost of our redemption: mocked yet unmoved. When the world mocks your faith—when Jesus' name is taunted—remember he faced far worse for you. He was humbled, so you could be honored. He bore the blow so you could bear his name without fear. So when you face ridicule: Don't respond in anger. Don't hide your faith. Stand unmoved. Your confidence isn't in your strength—it's in his. His mockery turned to victory on the third day. And your scars of ridicule can become stamps of his grace. #MockedYetUnmoved, #Mark15, #ChristOurKing ASK THIS: Why did the soldiers mock Jesus as “King”? How does knowing Jesus endured scorn change your view of suffering? When have you felt mocked for your faith, and how did you respond? What would it look like to stand unmoved by the world's scorn? DO THIS: The next time you sense mocking or rejection because of Jesus, quietly pray: “Jesus, You endured more for me—help me stand unmoved.” PRAY THIS: Lord Jesus, you endured mockery and pain to save me. When I face ridicule, give me courage to stand firm in your name, trusting in your victory. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Man of Sorrows."

Brad records solo during a busy fair season. But behind the scenes at the research center, a troubling issue emerged this summer: a cluster of abortions isolated to a 50–60 cow organic herd. After ruling out other groups, Brad suspected moldy feed. Testing revealed high mold counts—especially Fusarium, which produces mycotoxins linked to infertility and abortions. The herd had been eating first-crop hay baled a bit too wet, later found to be heating and moldy.Aborted fetuses sent to diagnostic labs showed mixed results: one indicated Neospora caninum (a protozoan parasite spread by dogs or coyotes), another pointed to bacterial placentitis likely linked to moldy feed. Despite the confusion, abortions dropped sharply after the moldy hay was removed from the diet, strengthening Brad's belief that feed quality was the main culprit. To prevent future issues, the team pulled suspect hay from use, began feeding a mycotoxin binder, and emphasized the importance—and challenge—of making mold-free feed in a wet year. After almost a month without new cases in the affected herd, Brad is cautiously optimistic. His takeaway: good feed management is critical, even for research herds, and sometimes the simplest solution—removing bad feed—makes the biggest difference.Questions, comments, scathing rebuttals? -> themoosroom@umn.edu or call 612-624-3610 and leave us a message!Linkedin -> The Moos RoomTwitter -> @UMNmoosroom and @UMNFarmSafetyFacebook -> @UMNDairyYouTube -> UMN Beef and Dairy and UMN Farm Safety and HealthInstagram -> @UMNWCROCDairyExtension WebsiteAgriAmerica Podcast Directory

Again revealed in the title, Psalm 57 was also written in hiding during David's fugitive wanderings.  This occasion served to inspired David to seek the assurance of divine protection far greater than the refuge the cave in Adullam could ever provide him. I Sam 22:1-2 documents the first congregation to ever sing this song. There were gathered to him and his family in this hideout, a motley crew of those in distress, debt, and bitter of soul about 400 strong. We can imagine David singing softly with pen in hand accompanied by a waning candle, his voice and the flickering light reflecting off of ancient stone cavern walls.  Some distance away at the cave's entrance, several of his men stand guard with watchful eyes probing the distance for the dust of enemy horsemen. After repeating his new chorus several times, the cave begins to echo with hundreds of outcast voices singing: “…With my voice I cry out to the LORD; with my voice I plead for mercy to the LORD.

Today J dives into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to talk about a character we all love, Hermione Granger. Her academic brilliance, her bravery, her books and cleverness, but there's one part of her life that remains a complete mystery: her parents. Why do we never see them? Why does Hermione spend so little time at home? And could her strange absence from family life actually explain deeper parts of her personality, like her boggart, her struggles with the Patronus, and her passion for house-elf rights?
