Cheryl Pope is an interdisciplinary visual artist who questions and responds to issues of identity as it relates to the individual and the community, specifically regarding race, gender, class, history, power, and place. Her practice emerges from the act and politics of listening, and recently introduces a novel material to explore the artist's memories. Referencing the familiar repertoire of the French Post-Impressionist, Intimist, and Imagist paintings, Pope recreates deeply personal recollections that cinematically compose the silent complexities of beautiful and tragic oscillations between love and loss in our everyday lives. Images of couples are drawn from memory, referencing the artist's own relationships and moments of disconnect, anxiety, and desire, while beach scenes depicting a mother and child accentuate a tender stillness of caregiving. The EcoAction Committee of the Green Party of the US hosted a webinar on Nuclear is a False Climate Solution on Monday, July 14. Gov. Hochul recently directed the NY Power Authority to build a new nuclear power plant. Nuclear power is pushing for a big revival both in the US and worldwide, partially on the false premise that it is carbon free – ignoring its carbon footprint from the construction of the plants (cement); the mining, processing, and transportation of its uranium fuel; and the hundreds of thousands of years to store its deadly radioactive waste. It takes so long to build that it cannot come online fast enough to prevent breaching the 1.5 C (or even 2 C target). It is also by far the most expensive form of electricity. There are also safety and environmental health problems with nuclear power. Yet both parties at the national level have embraced expanding subsidies and support for nuclear power, partially arguing it is needed for baseline power. In part 2, we hear from Anne Rabe of Don't Waste NY, who outlines what is happening in NY, starting with Governor Hochul telling the NY Power Authority to build new nuclear power plants.

Depending on who you are and where you get your news from, you may be seeing a completely separate version of the news from your neighbor down the street, your aunt in another state, or your coworker who only gets his news from a specific social media platform. Maybe everyone around you gets the same news you do. But you also know that there is a very different version of reality out there, that many people are deeply believing in. So, how do we figure out what's true and what's convenient? How do we talk to each other if we don't have the same baseline of understanding about, perhaps, anything? We'd argue that this is where critical thinking skills come in. But what do you mean by critical thinking skills? We're glad you asked. This episode is for anyone who wants to think deeper about what we mean when we say critical thinking skills and how we can use them to bridge the divides in our communities, our country, and maybe even in our own households.   What to listen for:  What are critical thinking skills, and why are they so important?  How do we avoid the common mistake of confusing critical thinking for believing in counter-narratives, especially when we are living in an era of disinformation or misinformation, where even the truth is hard to find? Ranked Choice Voting, or RCV, the process by which voters rank candidates by preference, has been in and out of the news for the last several years, as advocates and critics on both sides of the political aisle debate the merits and pitfalls of a system that many on the left – and increasingly some on the right – seem to think is the way elections should be handled. Most recently, NY City candidate for mayor Zohran Mamdani espoused RCV's benefits prior to his defeat of former Gov Andrew Cuomo in the city's Democratic mayoral primary. This week, Sky Shook joins The Feds to discuss Lyme and other tick-borne illnesses that have caused much harm to the American population. Sky is a health consultant and strategist who has supported the healing efforts of patients with vector borne diseases, including Lyme disease, for more than two decades. He supports through advocacy, education, medical practice management and lobbying at the state and federal level.In this episode, we discuss why Sky started researching Lyme, and what he found helpful for his own wife who was struggling with a cascade of symptoms. Sky discusses that early treatment is the best, and for those who have chronic Lyme, it is important to look not just at the tick as the cause of illness, but at other toxins as contributors.
