Monica Vaccaro, Director of Programs, and Dr. Drew Nagele, Neuro-psychologist and research site investigator, discussed the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania. We talked about the types of brain injuries, from the common blow to the head that makes you see stars, traumatic injury from accidents, and now, the rising number of brain impairment from Opioids misuse. The Vision of the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania is a world in which all people with brain injuries and their supporters are leading fulfilling lives and are empowered to participate in their communities. They spoke of the Intersection of Brain Injury and Opioids Misuse; persons who have sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) are more likely to misuse substances because of their brain injury, while persons with opioid use disorder are more likely to sustain a brain injury as a result of their opioid use. In both cases the ability to seek and follow treatment is impaired; what might look like lack of motivation, poor performance in treatment, or a mental health disorder might be untreated brain injury. They spoke of the need for healthcare professionals to be more aggressive in screening for injury and to approach treatment geared to the impairment. We also spoke of the work Dr Nagele is monitoring - researching and screening persons incarcerated for brain injury, the numbers are greater than expected and impact the individual's success after release. Distinguish between serious burnout and normal fatigue. Create a list of demands for an acquirer when selling your business. Think in decades when making big decisions. Establish a positive relationship with your acquirer.

Preaching for the Fourth Sunday of Easter, Maryknoll Lay Missioner, Susan Nagele reflects on the familiar shepherd imagery of the readings through the lens of her experience in East Africa: "The responsorial psalm is very comforting, 'The Lord is my Shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.' But let’s be practical. Jesus left this earth many years ago and it takes more than words to keep people and the animals alive. We, ourselves, must be the body of Christ. I think Jesus is telling us that there is nothing we shall want and we will have abundant life if we take care of one another the way a good shepherd takes care of the sheep." Susan Nagele is a Maryknoll Lay Missioner and Family Physician who began working in East Africa in 1985. Her service provided primary health care in Tanzania for six years, Sudan for 12 years (all during the second war in what is now called South Sudan) and Kenya for 14 years. She returned to the USA in 2018 and continues to work for Maryknoll Lay Missioners doing medical consultancy, mission education and promotion in the Midwest. Visit www.catholicwomenpreach.org/preaching/05032020 to learn more about Susan, to read her text or watch her video, and for more preaching from Catholic women.

Host: Jennifer Caudle, DO Host Jennifer Caudle, DO welcomes Robert Nagele, PhD, a Rowan University researcher and Professor at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Nagele and his team are closing in on a new blood test to detect Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, MS, cancers and other diseases by searching for the autoantibodies created by the disease processes. The test has initially shown to be remarkably accurate in research trials with a capability to accurately assess the stage of disease. More important, it appears to detect pre-clinical disease, giving physicians an opportunity to intervene with lifestyle changes that delay or defer the onset of symptoms. This program was recorded live at the American Osteopathic Association's annual medical education conference, OMED2015 in Orlando, FL,
