SHOT OF NOSTALGIA #1.16: WCW 1996 | JUL 8th & JUL 15th MONDAY NITRO | WCW IN DISNEY, BROTHER!

In episode 16 ACEFIELD RETRO returns with MIKE BELCASTER to discuss the JULY 8th & JULY 15th MONDAY NITRO both emanating from the DISNEY MGM STUDIOS! We rear back and get ready to start the NWO era in WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING. As usual, we use the newsletter as it happened in real-time to tie in CONTEXT and bring us completely back to 1996 to understand the scope of what was happening in the world of wrestling. HOGAN is officially a heel and he addresses the audience for the first time donned in all black. REY MYSTERIO gets his first CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP win against DEAN MALENKO in what was another awesome display of wrestling that transcends time. By a streak of BAD LUCK, WCW is forced to run two taped NITROS in front of largely non wrestling FANS as they're follow up for the biggest HEEL TURN in history because of TURNER trucks all covering the 1996 OLYMPICS IN ATLANTA. WCW took a backseat and had to record in DISNEY STUDIOS. DID IT HURT THEM? As always, this episode is sure to be an absolutely incredible time with the main homie Belly to Belcaster. It's going to be hard to top that episode last week but you know we are trying our hardest on the build to HOG WILD. We are certain you will enjoy the ride with us taking our own drinks based on WCW BOOKING. Who knows how many DQ finishes will force us to take SHOTS OF NOSTALGIA live on air?! As for the tying-in, that's the best part. We place what is happening in 1996 and compare it to 2022's wrestling platform. Just a great discourse about retro pro wrestling! Jump on the time-traveling bandwagon and hop in the chat on the Tavern. Don't forget to grab your weekly Shot of Nostalgia at 7 PM Eastern (our new time) & stay tuned for BEFORE OUR TIME directly following us to cap A FLASHBACK FRIDAY ON THE TAVERN. As always, tip your bartenders & learn from the past! LIKE * COMMENT * SUBSCRIBE⚡️⚡️⚡ Go to www.theturnbuckletavern.com & subscribe to the Patreon for only $2.99/month for all exclusive access to the shows & join the community. This episode originally aired on August 5, 2022 on our streaming platforms. We are releasing the back catalog for audio purposes! Enjoy!

It's the go-home show for the Great American Bash! And what a gift this go-home week has been as this Thunder follows one of the most disappointing Nitros that featured Goldberg's return. They also banned Goldberg from the arena for Thunder. The Wall sports a new lewk. Mike Awesome competes in a non-ambulance match. Daffney defends the WCW Cruiserweight championship.

Disco grande

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 14, 2021 58:59

Escuchar audio

Disco grande - Garbage y The Goon Sax os saludan - 09/06/21

We are staying home, staying safe and living by the #StayHomeWatchWrestling mantra. This week, Peter and Chris are joined by Jacob and Corktown's Illest, Cousin Aaron. Unfortunately, many WWE superstars and talents were laid off last week, so we fantasy book where we'd like to see all these men and women go. Will we send the Good Brothers to Impact? Will Hawkins and Ryder scratch that itch in New Japan? Will No Way Jose dance his way to HorrorSlam? We book the towns from here to there and everywhere.   You know we veer off-topic if that topic doesn't satisfy you. Other things we touch on include: Aaron's WM36 thoughts; what we can binge-watch next (Wresting Society X or 205 Live perhaps); non-political issues of the day; Nitros and War Games from 1998; HOF talk, learning Polish and much more.  You will also hear us brainstorming ideas for new shirts, one of which is already on pre-order. Go to 20x20Apparel right now and get the #StayHomeWatchWrestling shirt. All profit will go right to No Kid Hungry. Stay home, be sports entertained, enjoy a cool new shirt and help a great charity. Today we'll announce a very special opportunity to join a private screening of the entire series of CoCoForever, created by D. Bruce Moore, and we'll hear from the cast, crew, and consumes of the series. A few special guests will also be invited, send an email to CoCoTALK@CoCoTALK.live with your entry, telling us _WHY_ you should attend the private screening. News stories for July 6 show:1) Jeff Teunissen (Deek on Discord) has started a public github for ALL C source code for OS9/NitrOS-9 (past and present), and includes parts of the C compiler itself. This is very much an ongoing work in progress, so if this is of interest to you, keep checking in on it periodically. He is also wanting anyone with C source code for OS-9/NitrOS-9 projects that he has not been able to find, to sent them to him and he will include them on his Github. As of July 3, in addition to the C compiler itself, he also has other language whose compilers were written in C (like Forth09 and XLisp), as well as enhanced utilities (like Help & CUTS).https://github.com/Deek/CoCoC 2) Ron Klein has an experimental (translation: expect bugs!) CocoPI3 git repo, so that the CocoPI3 can get automatic updates. Details & instructions here:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tTtsB-_iR7ECtPwY11cxcHeB9GSF8oaZszDFWWV3uNg/edit 3) Tony Cappellini shared some photos he had taken at one of the Color America Fests, held in the southern California around the mid-1980's. Steve Bjork makes a guest appearance, and has a photo shoot with a Quadrunner (I think some of these photos ended up in his interview with Color Computer Magazine). They also hooked the quad up so that it could literally control Steve's game Desert Rider (released by Tandy/Radio Shack). One of the Wayne Technologies CP/M cards makes an appearance, as well as other hardware and software. There is also a Q&A session with some local Coco luminaries of the time, that Tony would like help identifying.https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/permalink/10157299413497641/ 4) Allen Huffman gets a shoutout for his version of the Zimodem firmware (originally by Bo Zimmerman for the Commodores) for Simulant's Retro Wifi SI (Wifi RS-232 serial modem). (See notes at end)https://www.simulant.uk/shop/retro-vintage-computer-wifi-modem-rs232-serial-hayes-compatible 5) Erico Monteiro has been working on sample semi-graphics animated artwork (all fully compatible with real hardware), including a mock-up of a Street Fighter II type game.https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/permalink/10157292683362641/ 6) Mat Chy is making a utility to help mix text scanlines for the Semigraphics-24 mode (like Protectors II did for the people you are rescuing), and has a video showing it:https://youtu.be/XhhAgFfe7bY And he has an animated GIF demo of it doing a kung-fu type game, as well as additional screenshots of experiments:https://www.facebook.com/mat.chy.5099/videos/142356680199801/ And he also released a video showing an SG12 demo with a character running between rooms, with some automapping as well:https://www.facebook.com/mat.chy.5099/videos/142687670166702/ 7) CocoMech keyboard installation video by Ed Snider - shows how to install it.https://youtu.be/PSR8-zqRSTY 8) Evan Wright has found software author Robert G. Kilgus, who has a book out called "An Inside Look at Microfiles", which goes into the thinking (and includes source) for his TRS-80 Model I/III program "Microfiles". Robert also did some of the earliest Coco programming as well, and seemed to favour 3-dimensional games (Quasar Commander, Dino Wars, Skiing, Color Cubes), and he also did the Disk Edtasm+ package.https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/permalink/10157301702177641/ 9) Glenside has published their latest newsletter, which includes a lot of pictures and info from the CocoFest in May:https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/permalink/10157302097527641/ 10) Blair Leduc has released an updated Visual Studio code for 6x09 assembly language (0.2.0).https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/permalink/10157292683362641/ 11) And speaking of SG modes, Mat Chy shared a video of an SG Tile editor he has been working on. After hyping it all year, it’s finally time for the official preview of the Fall Scramble at Prairie Landing where Charlie will defend his 2x and defending long drive championship and our group will defend skins glory (the only payout in 2017). Augie took a couple go-arounds at Sox Park (we refrain from using field sponsor titles since they change often unlike Wrigley Field - Go Cubs) in his first experience playing Stadium Links. No nitro pours but there were Nitros, home runs, human range pickers and MLB inflated beer prices… followed by a super late night casino run. Charlie details his derailed attempt to play Ravisloe and audible to Lost Marsh. A very industrial area serves as the end to a great ball streak - find out how it all went down. For every end there is a new beginning - and this one might be yellow. We review the Ryder Cup European ass kicking of the Americans. You may or may not have heard of the Moliwood pairing on the pod prior to it actually happening. Hey - sometimes we know what we’re talking about. In Tour news, Kevin Tway comes up with his 1st tour victory - we detail his lengthy path to his well-earned W #Gainz. Charlie has a dream that includes Tway. Koepka (Augie’s horse $$$) won Player of the Year - unshockingly. Him and DJ try to emulate Moliwood. Lagunitas Citrusinensis fuels the ep. Song adds include Charlie’s double feature of “Save Room” and “Stereo” by John Legend. Augie goes back to the Eric Church well with the newly released “Desperate Man” title track.

It's another trip through wrestling's past this week on Wrestling Omakase! This is the sequel episode of sorts to our previous rating every year episode ([#62, Rating WWF/E From 96-06](https://audioboom.com/posts/7004096-wrestling-omakase-62-rating-every-wwf-e-year-from-1996-to-2006)), as this time around we look at World Championship Wrestling! John is joined by returning guest Rich Kraetsch of the Voices of Wrestling flagship ([@voiceswrestling](http://twitter.com/voiceswrestling)) and first time guest Scott ([@tapemachines](http://twitter.com/tapemachines)) to break down each year of WCW from 1994 through 2000! We start with the year of Hulk Hogan's debut up through the nWo years and end with the very depressing Russo era, and it's quite a trip. Hear us give each year a rating from 1-5, pick an MVP, Match of the Year, and Best & Worst PPV, and just generally give our thoughts and feelings on what we think is or isn't worth watching. What's fun bad and what's just brutally boring bad? What year of WCW is better on PPV and which are better for watching weekly Nitros? To be honest with you we give far more detail for the earlier years than the later ones, as the answer for what part of late WCW you should watch is really "not much". Still, there's a few gems buried in those final few years, and we'll definitely help you find them. It's all things WCW all the time, this week! Three days late but it’s here. In this episode I discuss briefly Raw’s slip in the ratings then I review the 10/23-10/31/95 Nitros. These are a doozy as they are the show before and the Show right after Halloween Havoc. Their is some utterly Bizarre shit that happened over the course of these two episodes Including a 7 foot mummy breaking out of a block of ice and Sabu’s last appearance in WCW. I know last Episode I promised a Live report from ROH’s Death Before Dishonor on 9/28/18 here in Vegas. Have no fear That is coming this Saturday as Myself and a returning guest will be discussing the show.
