Utah files landmark lawsuit challenging federal control over most BLM land Yes, it is to retch over. Once again, the Utah legislature is coming for America's public lands, this time by way of a lawsuit filed against the US government to lay claim to 18.5 million acres of public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Utah has a new website called “Stand for Our Land” designed to support the lawsuit – it's a slick campaign, maybe the slickest yet- and chock-full of the half-truths and outright falsehoods long devised and parroted by the generations of would-be landgrabbers before them. Some say this is just more performance politics, another ploy to lock-in votes from a mouth-frothing base that demands raw meat, however illusory, to stay motivated. It is not. Utah is a complicated place, and the motivations and legal mechanics of this lawsuit need to be understood by every American who loves our public lands and our freedom to experience them, and who believes that freedom should be safeguarded for the future. Know what is happening. Join Utah BHA leaders Caitlyn Curry and Perry Hall, and BHA CEO Patrick Berry, for the inside look at what is happening, what is at stake, and exactly what is coming down this road.     “Once more into the breach!” as Henry the Fifth commended his valiant soldiers, and so must  we, defenders of public lands and our American birthright, go, yet again, and as many times as it take.  ___ www.backcountryhunters.org

Kingsville resident Bruce Seward stops by Mainstreet to talk about his distinguished career in Baltimore County education, including 35 years at Perry Hall High School, home of the Gators. Starting as an English teacher, Bruce later became a counselor before ultimately serving as Director of Guidance, a position he held until his "first retirement."  With a house soon full of grandkids, however, Bruce decided to ditch diaper duty, come out of retirement, and mentor students and staff at Towson High School until he retired for good in 2016. A devout Catholic, Bruce considers his time at Perry Hall a blessing, second only to meeting Diane,  his wife of 54 years.  Bruce is full of praise for the woman he calls the love of his life, but he also shares a story of what can happen when an overly-ardent young man tries to steal an innocent kiss from a good Catholic girl before she's ready.  Bruce and Diane have called Kingsville home for 46 years and remain active in the community. And when the opportunity arises, they love to travel.  Bruce shares many memories with us on this episode of Mainstreet -- his idyllic childhood in what was then the "village" of Towson, some pre-teaching part-time jobs that were in their own way educational, and why, even in retirement, he continues to see the good in today's students, even as he laments changes in child rearing attitudes that arose among some parents and educators during the 1970s.  What comes through repeatedly during our conversation is Bruce Seward's abiding commitment to education, students, and kids in general -- provided they no longer need their diapers changed. Please subscribe to, like, and follow the Mainstreet PodcastFacebook: @USAmainstreetWebsite: https://themainstreetpodcast.com/Email: info@themainstreetpodcast.comPlease consider supporting ushttps://www.patreon.com/user?u=19619915&fan_landing=truehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/williammooNAnd please consider giving us a five-star rating and review on Apple podcasts and Spotify. Nas the Artist was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. He began his art journey taking up graphic design at Mergenthaler High School before transferring to Perry Hall. After graduation, Nas attended CCBC with aspirations to obtain an A.A. degree in Business Administration. Unfortunately, unforseen circumstances would arise and Nas decided to pursue entrepreneurship full-time without looking back. He began to teach himself various forms and styles of art all while developing his own style. With inspiration coming from photography, cartoons, music, madonarri, sports, history and much more, Nas formally introduced his own style of art called Artistco. (the ability to use creativity to make an impact) Since then, Nas has started his own business and has received comission work from various clients. He hopes to gain more notoriety while making a positive impactful difference on millions of lives around the world. Through Faith and prayer, we shall get there. You'll have to forgive Steve and me for at times sounding, to use Steve's word, giddy during our conversation with retired Baltimore County teacher and administrator Bob Pettebone.  Except for a brief phone conversation to schedule our interview for this episode, I hadn't had any contact with  Mr. Pettebone since the mid-1970s. Steve has seen him only a couple of times over the same time span. Talking to him after so many years, I had the strange sensation of regressing to my fourth-grade self. And I liked it!  Hearing him describe how at Gunpowder Elementary he came to call me "Lerch" for the way I sat in my chair, especially, in his recollection, when next to a cute girl, led me to two conclusions.  First, the man has a phenomenal memory.  Second, in addition to trying to get to know my cute classmate better, I wonder if I was also trying to copy her homework. So, again, forgive our occasional giddiness, but few students who were blessed to have Mr. Pettebone as a teacher walked away unchanged for the better.  We hope you enjoy hearing about his illustrious career in education as much as Steve and I did. In the first of two episodes about our hometown of Perry Hall, we speak with Marianna Weaver, widow of legendary O's manager Earl Weaver, and her daughter Kim Benson.  From 1968 until 1982, Earl and his family lived in a modest home on Dundawan Road in Perry Hall during an era that saw the O's  capture two world championships, four pennants, and six division titles.  It was a magical time to follow the O's and to live in Perry Hall. Marianna and Kim share memories of the neighbors they knew, Earl's patience and humor, and the unique way a 10 year-old Kim  used a friend's baseball card collection to  make clear that a new sheriff was in town to replace Hank Bauer. The Mainstreet Podcast is sponsored by Your Pet AuPair! Happy #WouldYouRatherWednesday! Would you rather the Orioles sign Trey Mancini long-term or just deal him even if you can't get a king's ransom for him because that's just how this whole thing works? We discussed that on today's show-as well as the frankly kinda boring nature of Warriors/Rockets.
