There’s an argument to be made that every technology advance in communication – from cave paintings to fake AI movie trailers – is at its root an attempt to tell stories. Our first night-fires created the earliest audiences for spoken stories. In time, the development of rhyme, song, and other mnemonic devices allowed those spoken stories to be preserved for generations; pictures drawn on cave walls turned preservation into permanence, telling stories we still experience thousands of years later; writing enabled storytellers to spread tales to faraway places; the Chinese invented printing with moveable metal type around 700 AD; the Toltecs independently invented it at about the same time; 750 years later Gutenberg independently invented it again, adding a converted wine press to create the mass production of mass communication. Over time, printing presses increased the number of storytellers and the size of their audiences by many orders of magnitude, a trend which led us to great revolutions, and electric, then electronic, then digital storytelling and all our storytelling tools of today—and tomorrow’s. Today’s guest is Kevin Ashton, author of “The Story of Stories: The Million-Year History of a Uniquely Human Art.” We see how humans alone possess the desire to share our hopes and beliefs, to understand and connect with others, to process events that have come before and anticipate events that will come next. That innate urge to communicate has impacted every aspect of human history, and it is so ingrained in the fabric of our existence that language did not come to being so that we could tell stories—stories gave us language. Human storytelling has led to innovations in astronomy, entertainment, technology, and beyond, and brought about revolutions, religions, political movements, and so much more.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Leaders are more vulnerable than ever before to become burned out, messed up, and off track. Using the ancient wisdom from the Toltecs, Dr. McKinley will discuss the Four Agreements that every leader might consider before they start their day. Using this simple but effective tool, leaders can become more focused and less confused about things that don't matter and free to lead and serve without unnecessary internal distractions. To Order Doug's Books: The Resiliency Quest,Mad About Us Visit Doug's Website: https://www.dougmckinley.com/ Receive a Free Leadership Resource: Leadership Guide
George John Haas is the author of 3 books and a forthcoming scientific paper. The books are "The Cydonia Codex", "The Martian Codex", and his newest "The Great Architects of Mars". Haas was an artist by trade and tells his story of how he fell into the study of Mars and it's anamolous features. Humans have been photographing Mars since the 1970's and as technology and resolution improves, so do the questions increase.Haas and his team has taken an interdisciplinary approach into the study. This includes geologists, veterinarians and former government physicists. The anamolies studied and addressed include the famous face of Mars, the Martian pyraminds, the keyhole structure, and an anatomically matched (to 27 points) parrot structure. The face is half feline, half simeon. The parrot matches a maccaw. Both related to Mezoamerican mythologies tied to creation myths and a parrot that stole the sun, only to be rescued by the hero twin hunters. The Martian Maccaw also has a dart or arrow aspect consistent with the myth of the creature's demise. You aren't going to want to miss this conversation.thecydoniainstitute@hotmail.com
Expand your dreaming awareness by utilizing energetic and shamanic movements, breath work, guided recapitulation, and shadow reflection. Our guest is Shamanic Dreaming Arts teacher, Joel Schafer. A look back on the episodes about the Incas and the Toltecs, including a discussion on the role of AI in history contact such as this podcast and the usual look back at listener correspondence, and news from behind the scenes of the podcast itself.
950 - 1150 - Sophisticated and enigmatic, the Toltecs dominated their locality with their art, architecture and mythology. Their warrior culture inspired and was admired by the Aztecs, who claimed their own ancestry from the Toltecs.
In today's podcast, I focus on examples of loss of liberty. The first is JS Bach being imprisoned for having the effrontery of asking his employer to let him go so he could seek a more lucrative employment elsewhere. It's shocking that one of the world's greatest musicians was considered to be property. Of course NO ONE should be considered to be property! A friend of his, a mere horn player, was hung for a similar infraction.120 years later, Chopin spent a honeymoon on the island of Majorca with his new wife, George Sand. Both of them were combining a honeymoon with holding good on promises to publishers—she on a book in progress and he on a collection of 24 preludes. They spent several months living in a scary monastery high in the mountains partly because Chopin was suffering from TB, which the locals interpreted as an example of how sin leads to disease, the result being a loss of liberty for Chopin and Sand. The third example of loss of liberty deals with how cacao symbolized power in the four Central American societies—of the Olmecs, the Toltecs, the Mayans and the Aztecs. Later, when Cortez brought cacao back to Spain, it came to symbolize power there as well with a loss of liberty for the Jewish doctors living in Bayonne, France, where they established cacao as an important local industry. During the Industrial Revolution, cacao became an important foodstuff for factory workers and in order to provide it, the colonial powers forced West Africans to provide them with inexpensive beans. The result was the use of child labor, five forms of which are described.I start the podcast with Bach's Prelude number 8 in E-Flat Minor and I finish with Chopin's Prelude #14 in the same key. Bach's prelude was written in a prison cell. Chopin's was written in a monastery cell. Both are examples of a loss of liberty. As always, we are looking to help African cocoa farmers become African chocolate makers. Join the revolution by donating to the cause!1. Modern society has conditioned us to ignore our primal instincts—intuition, connection to nature, and inner knowing.
"A well-governed appetite is a great part of liberty." - Seneca In This Episode, We Get Stoic About: It is a foundational principal of Stoicism that true freedom lies not in the absence of external constraints but in the mastery of oneself. This concept wasn't limited to the Western world. In fact, the Toltecs, a Mesoamerican culture that dominated what is modern day Mexico 400 years before Columbus, had a similar philosophy. We dig into it on today's podcast…. Takeaways True freedom lies in the mastery of ourselves, not in the absence of external constraints. Self-control is the antidote to the constraints that enslave us. Various cultures and philosophies, including Stoicism, the Toltecs, and the Japanese samurai, have emphasized the importance of self-control. Reflecting on what is enslaving us and practicing self-control can lead to true freedom and fulfillment. Until Next Time…out of role!

The unexamined life is not worth living — SocratesIt seems natural, even innate, to want to make the most of one's life. To have a good life seems to require examination. Examining one's life, growing, and continuing to be aware is part of our purpose. The purpose of life has two branches. The first is the ecological purpose and the second is more metaphysical. The ecological purpose of life is to reproduce to alleviate mortality. In other words, because all life dies, life reproduces itself. In this way, collective life persists despite the individual being terminal.Evolution and natural selection, especially of the central nervous system, have facilitated communication, social interaction, and parental care. Humans still struggle with how to manage this complexity. What is less derived is our metaphysical or non-scientific understanding of being human or of making a good life. Sure, we figured out how to keep the water (fairly) clean, eat, and build shelter, but how do we deal with our free time? What do we do with all the gains from understanding our physical needs?Once our basic needs are met, what do we do? First, we evolve a complex neurology that facilitates taking in more information from our environment. To process all this new information we also evolve a central processing unit. Combined, we developed unprecedented ways to interact with our environment, each other, and ourselves. At the intersection of the metaphysical and physical elements of human purpose is socialization. Sophisticated communication and interactions led to cooperation, community, and enhanced parental care. Ultimately, love evolved to enhance our connections to each other and our ecosystem. Neural complexity also led to art, medicine, science, and other technological derivations. Along the way, of course, less desirable states or conditions arose including violence, competition, and selfishness. These elements, ideally, will be selected out of our population (see here for more). The future of humankind depends on these metaphysical elements. Prioritizing values like love, connection, and kindness over money, power, and status is critical to our healthy future. The privileged and fortunate among us are self-aware. Self-awareness facilitates an examined life. An examined life will grow toward an enhanced and necessary value system understood through our neural gifts.Self-awareness permits the unlearning process. Don Miguel Ruiz, of “The Four Agreements” fame, and other Toltecs refer to domestication as the mechanism for our initial learnings. As children, we learn to walk, talk, sit, and stay according to the rules of our families, villages, and cultures. Few of us even realize this has happened. None of us consented.Once aware our life examination begins, and the first step is to realize we don't know why we believe what we believe. We must audit our thoughts, ideas, and values to determine whether they belong to us. This is the first step.Self-awareness begets the undoing of domestication. Defining personal values and understanding one's ecological and metaphysical needs defines a life. The next step is realizing we are interconnected to balance our individuality with our community. Finally, we figure out how to nudge our fellow humans in a similar direction.Understanding and meeting our own needs helps us as much as each other. This is the pathway toward a good life. We make it by doing the work, being ourselves, and nurturing awareness. If you are enjoying this content, please tell your friends.
Ok, I know, it sounds weird but hear me out. Humans are freaked out by death. I'm not saying I'm any different, just drawing attention to this in hopes of reducing our suffering. Today I'm wondering what life would be like if we could change our relationship with death. The Toltec civilization of Central America considered death an advisor like a friend who gives advice. In this way, Toltecs navigated their lives knowing they were temporary. It is a way to try and make the most of the time we have. Some modern cultures ask how you would live life differently if you knew you only had 6 months to live. I'm sure you've heard this approach at some point in your life. It's an interesting question. How would you live differently? My ecological background treats death as a normal part of life. Death is kind of the same as birth. It is a necessary occurrence for all living things. Things change through time, and part of that is death. Humans forget this. We don't talk about it. We pretend it isn't true. We try to use technology to make it false.Isn't that weird? At least in an ecological sense? What did our other animals do? What did our ancestors do? I love that question. I think as our minds and nervous systems became more sophisticated we developed a lot of emotions around death. Sadness. Grief. Regret. I think that our hardware evolved faster than our software. In other words, our awareness of our emotions lags behind our capacity to have them. Let's face it. Death is overwhelming. But can't we learn to incorporate death into our lives? Talk about it. Recognize it. Not overdramatize it so much. Can't we use death as a reminder to live our lives? If we can embrace our mortality, we may discover ways of dealing with our loved ones' deaths. Recognizing and talking about our mortality is a start. Ecology understands that all things are part of a larger system. Within this system, energy flows and nutrients cycle. Life and death are natural parts of that cycle. You can start at birth:birth->life->growth->reproduction->death->decomposition->nutrient recycling->repeatDeath is a part of a natural cycle. One we can't change. Isolation and alteration of any part of the system can upset everything. Modifying death can destroy the homeostasis within the biosphere. What would it be like with less fear and guilt and shame and drama? Would we be more connected and less separate? Can we take back all the energy we spend avoiding death and pretending it away? To do otherwise seems profane. I wish we talked more about death. I don't want to take away the grief and sadness. But maybe we could learn to reduce the guilt and regret. Maybe it would help to ask ourselves how we would live differently if we understood our time here is limited. This is how I know you're going to win” Our guest today, Jeff Nemeth, sees the world in a different way than the masses. He started actively ignoring the corporate news over a decade ago, has never binged a show, and believes much more in the power of Main Street rather than Wall Street. The Mexican pyramids refer to the ancient pyramid complexes located in Mexico. These pyramids were constructed by various indigenous civilizations that thrived in what is now present-day Mexico. The two most well-known pyramid complexes in Mexico are Teotihuacan and Chichen Itza. Teotihuacan, located near Mexico City, was a significant pre-Columbian city during the Classic period. The Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon are the largest structures within this complex. These pyramids were constructed by the Teotihuacanos, a civilization whose identity and origins remain a subject of debate among researchers. Chichen Itza, located in the Yucatan Peninsula, was a major city of the Maya civilization. It flourished during the Terminal Classic period and was later influenced by the Toltecs. The most iconic pyramid at Chichen Itza is the Temple of Kukulcan, also known as El Castillo. This step pyramid is renowned for its precise astronomical alignments and the famous serpent shadows that appear during the spring and autumn equinoxes. Apart from Teotihuacan and Chichen Itza, there are numerous other notable pyramid complexes throughout Mexico. These include Palenque, located in the state of Chiapas, known for its intricately carved temples and the Temple of the Inscriptions; Tulum, situated on the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, featuring stunning ocean views; and Monte Alban, an ancient Zapotec city in Oaxaca, characterized by its unique architectural style. Each of these pyramid complexes showcases the remarkable achievements in architecture, engineering, and religious beliefs of the ancient Mexican civilizations. They provide fascinating insights into the rich history and cultural heritage of the region.
Description: An immersive reading of an untitled poem by King Nezahualcoyotl translated by Daniel Brinton with reflection on Nahuatl poetry, memento mori, and flowers.Website:https://anauscultation.wordpress.com/ Work: Excerpts from an untitled poem by King Nezahualcoyotl translated by Daniel Brinton1. The fleeting pomps of the world are like the green willow trees, which, aspiring to permanence, are consumed by a fire, fall before the axe, are upturned by the wind, or are scarred and saddened by age.2. The grandeurs of life are like the flowers in color and in fate. […]3. The delicious realms of flowers count their dynasties by short periods; those which in the morning revel proudly in beauty and strength, by evening weep for the sad destruction of their thrones, and for the mishaps which drive them to loss, to poverty, to death and to the grave. All things of earth have an end. […]4. […] nothing is so perfect that it does not fall and disappear. […]5. The caverns of earth are filled with pestilential dust which once was the bones, the flesh, the bodies of great ones who sate upon thrones […]6. […] Were I to introduce you into the obscure bowels of this temple, and were to ask you which of these bones were those of the powerful Achalchiuhtlanextin, first chief of the ancient Toltecs; […] if I continued thus questioning about all our august ancestors, what would you reply? The same that I reply—I know not, I know not; for first and last are confounded in the common clay. What was their fate shall be ours, and of all who follow us.7. Unconquered princes, warlike chieftains, let us seek, let us sigh for the heaven, for there all is eternal, and nothing is corruptible. The darkness of the sepulchre is but the strengthening couch for the glorious sun, and the obscurity of the night but serves to reveal the brilliancy of the stars. We are continuing our Mesoamerica series with the Tlahuelpuchi. The Nahuas believe in a creature they call the Tlahuelpuchi. It is said to have the form of a woman, often described as beautiful and alluring, which helps it deceive and entice its victims. It has long, flowing hair that cascades down its back, and its eyes are known to possess a captivating, mesmerizing quality, sometimes described as glowing or piercing with an otherworldly intensity. The creature may appear to be harmless and attractive at first, luring unsuspecting individuals closer. The Nahuas are a larger indigenous group that encompasses various subgroups and communities across Mexico and Central America. They share a common linguistic heritage as speakers of the Nahuatl language. The Nahuas predate the Aztec civilization and have a long history that includes other prominent civilizations such as the Toltecs and Teotihuacanos. Please don't forget to get in on the t-shirt give away on our instagram and tiktok! The Four AgreementsThe Four Agreements Full Book Introduction We are born into a nightmare. From birth, our parents or guardians teach us the ways of the social world. They want to help us to adapt to the rules and belief systems in this current nightmare; until a day comes when we start to educate ourselves to be like obedient animals with freedom taken from us. Luckily, The Four Agreements can rescue us from this nightmare. The author deploys these four agreements as a weapon for people to turn against their everyday suffering and guilt. It is a battle to break the intangible bonds of entrenched obedience and have the ability to pursue true happiness. Author : Don Miguel RuizDon Miguel Ruiz was born into a family of healers. They were practitioners of ancient Toltec traditions. After high school, he was admitted to study medicine and graduated as a surgeon. Following a near-death experience, Ruiz became interested in Toltec culture, which he went on to study, conducting research into the heritage of pre-Columbian healing and teaching. Today, he is a Nasual of the Eagle Knight lineage. This means he is responsible for guiding people towards spiritual freedom and committed to sharing the Toltec culture to enlighten future generations. Overview | Chapter 1Hi, welcome to Bookey. Today we will unlock the book The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, A Toltec Wisdom Book. From a Southern Mexican perspective, Toltec culture embodies thousands of years of wisdom. The Toltecs were mostly scientists and artists. Over many generations, their civilization encouraged people to explore spiritual knowledge in a quest for ultimate truth. Toltecs advocate spirituality but do not preach religion. Their culture is devoted to helping people achieve spiritual freedom, transcendent love and happiness. Over the past few thousand years, the Toltecs have guarded their ancestral wisdom, keeping it a secret, fearing the probability of their spiritual riches being misused by European conquerors and miscreant disciples. As their homeland became exposed to the outside world, it was more vital to protect Toltec knowledge and keep it pure. However, in the spirit of sharing wisdom and helping people on their route to enlightenment, Don Miguel Ruiz finally decided to sit down and write to let more people know about Toltec culture through his book The Four Agreements. This book can truly set your mind free. In its pages, Ruiz tells us that everyone is born into a nightmare. From the moment we are born, our parents teach us how to adapt to the rules and regulations of the nightmare until the day comes when we start to train ourselves to conform and become obedient like a well-trained animal with no hope of freedom. Luckily, The Four Agreements can rescue us from this fate. The agreements of the title are as follows: “be impeccable with your word,” “don't take anything personally,” “don't make assumptions,” and “always do your best.” Wielding these four agreements as our tools, Ruiz aims to help us perceive the nature of our suffering and to break free from invisible bondage, so as to chase true freedom and happiness. Next, let's talk through the book's content in three parts:Part One: A painful life in nightmares Part Two: Four agreements that will change your life And Part Three: Break free from old agreements and win back your freedom
In this pick-me-up episode, we introduce you to the characters, companions, clowns, and survivors that are the dogs of the Toy group. Once seen as symbols of royalty and aristocracy, dogs of the Toy group were often the coveted spoils of revolutions, war, and palace coups. The refined elegance and charm of these compact dogs assisted in their survival and solidified their place in many decidedly non-royal homes of today. Join us as we look at how favorite breeds of kings, queens, monarchs, and fashionistas both plummeted and soared in popularity. Bonafide Bits: Chihuahuas, originally named Techichis, were kept by the Toltecs to guide their human companions into the afterlife. Both Pekingese and Maltese are referred to as “lion dogs.” Aristotle called the elegant Maltese perfectly proportioned. In 1926, Roswell Eldridge Esquire offered a hefty purse to breeders who could replicate toy Spaniels of King Charles' time. In the 1500s, Dutch traders smuggled Pugs out of China where they would become mascots in Holland's House of Orange. Featured Breeds: Pekingese Pekingese are compact, stocky toy dogs weighing up to 14 pounds. The coat is longest at the neck and shoulders, giving Pekes their famous “lion's mane.” Coats come in various reds, from golden red to darker shades. The large, short-muzzled head is a wider-than-long, envelope-shaped rectangle, and the eyes are large, dark, and sparkly. A unique feature of Pekes is their effortless “rolling” gait. Pekes are charming, confident companions who develop a tight bond with their favorite human. Bred to live in palaces, they can be as serenely independent as the emperors who owned them. (They're “opinionated,” Peke people say.) Ever alert, they make good watchdogs. Pekes will tolerate kids but won't stand for a lot of roughhousing. Discover more about Pekingese at AKC's Pekingese Breed Biography. Chihuahua The Chihuahua is a balanced, graceful dog of terrier-like demeanor, weighing no more than six pounds. The rounded “apple” head is a breed hallmark. The erect ears and full, luminous eyes are acutely expressive. Coats come in many colors and patterns and can be long or short. The varieties are identical except for the coat. Chihuahuas possess loyalty, charm, and a big-dog attitude. Even tiny dogs require training, and without it, this clever scamp will rule your household like a little Napoleon. Compact and confident, Chihuahuas are ideal city pets. They are too small for roughhousing with kids, and special care must be taken in cold weather, but Chihuahuas are adaptable as long as they get lots of quality time in their preferred lap. Discover more about Chihuahuas at AKC's Chihuahua Breed Biography. Maltese The tiny Maltese, “Ye Ancient Dogge of Malta,” has been sitting in the lap of luxury since the Bible was a work in progress. Famous for their show-stopping, floor-length coat, Maltese are playful, charming, and adaptable toy companions. Discover more about Malteses at AKC's Maltese Breed Biography. Papillon The quick, curious Papillon is a toy dog of singular beauty and upbeat athleticism. Despite his refined appearance, the Pap is truly a “doggy dog” blessed with a hardy constitution. Papillon fanciers describe their breed as happy, alert, and friendly. A tiny dog, measuring 8 to 11 inches at the shoulder, you can still spot a Papillon a block away thanks to the large, wing-shaped ears that give the breed its name (“papillon” is French for “butterfly”). Some Paps have erect ears; in others, known as the Phalene type, the ears are down. Paps are dainty and elegant, with a plumed tail, and a long, silky coat of several color combinations, the base color being white. More robust than they look, Paps are little dogs for all seasons and reasons. They thrive in warm or cool climates, in town or country, and are eager to join the family fun. They are excellent agility dogs and are consistent winners at the sport's highest levels; less ambitious owners can train them to do all kinds of tricks. Discover more about Papillons at AKC's Papillon Breed Biography. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel wears his connection to British history in his breed's name. Cavaliers are the best of two worlds, combining the gentle attentiveness of a toy breed with the verve and athleticism of a sporting spaniel. Discover more about Cavalier King Charles Spaniels at AKC's King Charles Spaniel Breed Biography. English Toy Spaniel The ETS is a square, snub-nosed toy weighing no more than 14 pounds. The large domed head with its long and lush ears, dark melting eyes, and chubby cheeks is a famous breed trait. The profuse coat comes in four varieties, each with its own proper name: red and white (Blenheim); black and tan (King Charles); white, black, and tan (Prince Charles); and a solid red (Ruby). Blenheims often have a red mark, the 'Blenheim Spot,' on top of the head. The ETS, like many toy breeds kept by royals, came to assume the personalities of their aristocratic owners. They can be proud and willful, and extremely discriminating in their choice of friends. With their favored humans, they are affectionate at home and exuberant and curious at play. Discover more about English Toy Spaniels at AKC's English Toy Spaniel Breed Biography. Pug Once the mischievous companion of Chinese emperors, and later the mascot of Holland's royal House of Orange, the small but solid Pug is today adored by his millions of fans around the world. Pugs live to love and to be loved in return. The Pug's motto is the Latin phrase “multum in parvo” (a lot in a little), an apt description of this small but muscular breed. They come in three colors: silver or apricot-fawn with a black face mask, or all black. The large round head, the big, sparkling eyes, and the wrinkled brow give Pugs a range of human-like expressions, such as surprise, happiness, and curiosity that have delighted owners for centuries. Pug owners say their breed is the ideal house dog. Pugs are happy in the city or country, with kids or old folks, as an only pet, or in a pack. They enjoy their food, and care must be taken to keep them trim. They do best in moderate climates “not too hot, not too cold” but, with proper care, Pugs can be their adorable selves anywhere. Discover more about Pugs at AKC's Pug Breed Biography. Italian Greyhound A true Greyhound in miniature, the elegant Italian Greyhound is an alert, playful, and highly affectionate toy companion. IGs make decorative couch dogs, but at heart, they are flash-and-dash coursing hounds with an instinct for pursuit. Discover more about Italian Greyhounds at AKC's Italian Greyhound Breed Biography. Silky Terrier Small but not fragile, feisty but not yappy, pretty but not sculpted, Silkys are 10-inch-tall dynamos animated by curiosity and high spirits. The glorious blue-and-tan coat is straight and glossy, and it feels and behaves much like human hair. The wedge-shaped head is topped by profuse hair parted down the middle, and erect V-shaped ears draw attention to the keen, piercing expression of the almond-shaped eyes. Silky Terriers are more refined than typical ratting terriers, but they should still look and behave like a true earth dog. Discover more about Silky Terriers at AKC's Silky Terrier Breed Biography. Yorkshire Terrier Beneath the dainty, glossy, floor-length coat of a Yorkshire Terrier beats the heart of a feisty, old-time terrier. Yorkies earned their living as ratters in mines and mills long before they became the beribboned lapdogs of Victorian ladies. The Yorkshire Terrier is a compact, toy-size terrier of no more than seven pounds whose crowning glory is a floor-length, silky coat of steel blue and a rich golden tan. Don't let the Yorkie's daintiness fool you. Tenacious, feisty, brave, and sometimes bossy, the Yorkie exhibits all the traits of a true terrier. Often named the most popular dog breed in various American cities, Yorkies pack lots of big-town attitude into a small but self-important package. They are favorites of urbanites the world over. Yorkies are long-lived and hypoallergenic (the coat is more like human hair than animal fur), and they make fine little watchdogs. This is a true “personality breed,” providing years of laughs, love, and close companionship. Discover more about Yorkshire Terriers at AKC's Yorkshire Terrier Breed Biography. Pomeranian The tiny Pomeranian, long a favorite of royals and commoners alike, has been called the ideal companion. The glorious coat, smiling, foxy face, and vivacious personality have helped make the Pom one of the world's most popular toy breeds. Discover more about Pomeranians at AKC's Pomeranian Breed Biography. For more information about a specific breed visit the breed's parent club or AKC.org. Shareables: If you see a pack of Pugs, you have seen a grumble. During a storm at sea, King James II of England requested his Spaniels be saved before adding that the rescuers should also save his son. As a symbol of affluence in ancient Rome, upper-crust Patrician women flaunted Maltese as fashion accessories.

StoryShots Summary and Review of The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz Introduction The Four Agreements is a practical guide to personal freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz, who became an apprentice under a shaman. He has expert knowledge of the ancient Toltecs, an indigenous Mexican culture of noble warriors and artists that lived around 1,000 years ago. The book is based on Toltecs' attitude to freedom from self-limiting beliefs that may cause suffering in a person's life. The Four Agreements is a highly influential book. It was first published in 1997 and has been an ever-popular book since Oprah Winfrey endorsed it in 2001 and 2013. The book has been translated into 46 languages, sold over 8 million copies in the US, and spent over a decade on the New York Times bestseller list. About Don Miguel Ruiz Don Miguel Ruiz is a Mexican author whose work is inspired by Toltec spiritualist and neoshamanistic texts. He was born into a family of healers and raised in rural Mexico by a curandera (healer) mother and a nagual (shaman) grandfather. His family assumed he would take on their centuries-old legacy of healing and teaching, and carry forward the Toltec knowledge. Instead, distracted by modern life, Ruiz attended medical school and became a surgeon. A near-death experience changed his life. Stunned by this experience, he began an intensive practice of self-inquiry. He devoted himself to the mastery of ancient ancestral wisdom. He studied earnestly with his mother and completed an apprenticeship with a powerful shaman in the Mexican desert. In 2018, he was listed as one of Watkins' 100 most spiritually influential living people. Death/Rebirth process in December: Strips you of a current iteration, belief or pattern you want to let go of. Makes you a better Artist of your Life. Join BEING ME mini here.Once you've awakened from the old dream that was dreaming you (your old program of conditioning, the Matrix you were trapped inside...), you're now the Artist. The Artist is the one who can create the dream, the life, they want. As the Artist of your life (as the Toltecs call it) you have stepped into an ongoing process of re-inventing yourself. You dream, you create, you take action, you nurture your creation, you refine, and then you let parts of your creation and iterations of yourself die to leave room for new.The circle of life.Moving through transformation after transformation, while YOU, at the core, also remain still. Unchanged. The unchanging essence of consciousness as the ever-changing expression of life in the form of a human. When this realization - the unchanging and the ever-changing - is felt, there's less attachment to the current created iteration of yourself. The Artist needs to get skilled at dying, at letting go. And skilled at meeting with fears connected with dying, and shifting old associations with the idea of Death. The mind, however, has been used to create attachments and clings to identification. If you've been identified with your mind for a long time, it's likely you believe it's you speaking when it says “I don't know how to let go!”.It's probably true, that the mind doesn't know. Letting go is a natural state of things. It's not a doing, but a being. Do you need to DO dying? No, you let it happen. (While your ego mind might fight and try to resist it…)In this week's episode of the Uncover YOU podcast, you're invited into the world of embodied letting go.Because that's what I find way more helpful than trying to explain to the mind how to let go.You find show notes in this post on my website
Don Jose Ruiz is a Toltec Master of Transformation and modern-day Shaman. He is a direct descendant of the Toltecs of the Eagle Night lineage and is the son of don Miguel Ruiz. He is the author of The Fifth Agreement, Ripples of Wisdom, and My Good Friend the Rattlesnake. Along with his family, he teaches workshops and offers transformational journeys around the world. Jose starts by talking about the underworld as a metaphor for personal growth. He says that when we face our demons, we are facing our fears and how we use the word against ourselves. When we experience emotional pain, we enter the underworld. But when we find our medicine and learn to heal our heartbreak, we grow in spirit, wisdom, and maturity. In this way, we start to believe in ourselves, and we bring our light into the world. The most important thing Jose took away from the underworld is faith in himself. He discovered his greatest ally – and that ally is himself. And the key to this is gratitude for life. Jose says that in the darkness, seeds are being planted. In this way, we must live our light and live our peace. It's easy to blame others. However when we play the blame game, we suppress ourselves and give up our power. But, there comes a time when we find our divinity. Jose says that true spirituality is when we support the love of our life that is ourselves. Jose also reminds us that inspiration creates the artist. And when we share our wisdom, it creates ripples that travel endlessly and eternally throughout the universe. Jose shares how he practices gratitude. He says sometimes when his body feels anxious or fearful, he stops replaying the patterns from the past and instead returns to the gratitude for being alive. And he says gratitude leads us to self-forgiveness. Simply put, Jose says, “I'm not a guru, I'm not a teacher, I'm just someone who is grateful to be alive.” In the end, Jose and I have a little surprise - we join our voices together and sing "LET IT BE" by the Beatles. if you want to learn more about Jose, his books as well as his upcoming series of live events, you can find him here: https://www.miguelruiz.com/don-jose-ruiz Today's episode's sponsor is Microbiome Labs. He refers to the world we live in as a shadow world or a fog of life that the ancient Toltecs refer to as Mitote. Often referred to in yoga as Maya meaning Illusion The formation of beliefs is what he calls the Domestication of Humans. From a young age, we didn't have the opportunity to choose our own beliefsOnce we begin to question our thoughts and the origin of our beliefs, we are able to free ourselves from the fogWe begin to live as our Authentic selves and leave the Dream that was layered on by the world around We can develop a new belief system that gives us the freedom to measure up to who we want to be rather than that of the Mitote and Don Miguel Ruiz offers us Four Agreements as a path to Personal Freedom. Check out today's Episode for a summary of Agreement #1: Be Impeccable with Your Word.
"Leaping into the Abyss Requires Faith, but Will Set You Free" Have you ever had Analysis Paralysis, or been unable to make a decision? I'm sure you have - it happens all the time. Basically, we have two or more options, but we can't know for sure what the outcome of either decision will be. Carlos Castaneda, in the books about Don Juan and the Toltecs, described this as leaping into an Abyss. When my wife and I were contemplating marriage, we viewed our individual and collective futures as a leap into an Abyss. Were we both willing to take the risk of how we will fall or land? The answer was yes, and we have been married for almost seven years. The key to this leap is faith. Like the adage, 'a leap of faith', faith requires you to let go of the 'not knowing' in lieu of a belief that things will work out ok.This faith is the other side of knowing. It's the opposite. The Yang to the Yin. The Darth Vader to the Luke Skywalker. It's how the universe is made. It's also an agreement to take the good with the bad. Take my marriage. Not everything is unicorns and rainbows. We made an agreement to deal with the good and the bad, the 'sickness and health', of it all. We did NOT assume things would always be one way or the other. Because they aren't. There is good and there is bad. Take the Grateful Dead. They asked their audience to leap in to an abyss. Some shows might be great, others might not be. But the agreement states that everyone would be together and love one another regardless of the outcome. The WHOLE THING was about the journey and not the result. This theme of focusing on the unfolding of life over the result or outcome is key here. It's the point I'm trying to make. If we surrender our need to KNOW the outcome, and focus on having FAITH that the outcome will be fine, or at least how it is meant to be, it frees us not only from worry but from not being able to enjoy the ride.Like the Dead say, "I'm going to hell in a bucket, but at least I'm enjoying the ride".I hope I, and all of us, can remember to enjoy the ride and break the agreements focusing on positive results. When we start to believe things will be ok, they are.You can subscribe to the Knowledge + Experience = Wisdom podcast or YouTube channel by searching your podcast app or YouTube.

The Mastery of Self by don Miguel Ruiz Jr takes the Toltec philosophy of the Dream of the Planet and the personal dream and explains how a person can: wake up, liberate themselves from illusory beliefs and stories and live with authenticity. In this episode, Liz Forrest shares teachings from her mentor Don Miguel Ruiz, author of the book, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom. The book offers guiding principles based on ancient Toltec wisdom that advocates freedom from self-limiting beliefs that may cause suffering and limitation in a person's life. The Toltecs are the indigieous people of Central Mexico, which has been referred to as the heart chakra of the planet. They created the pyramids there and led lives of consciousness and connection. The Toltec wisdom is the study of energy. They teach us that we are a combination of energy systems just like everything else on the planet. The teachings include astrology, astronomy, unity and oneness- reminding us that we are one with nature, the elements, the animals and each other. One of the principle teachings is that of awareness. This is awareness of holding and directing your energy, to be able to recognize where you begin to lose your energy by being frivolous with your words. You are constantly spinning energy with your words, The question is, are you focusing your energy in the direction of love or destruction? The program that makes public the facts that consolidate the Toltec Nation as one of the most advanced societies in history. Today opens TOLTEC: The Last Avatar of Quetzalcóatl Chapter 26, in which minds and bodies of Toltecs are fed and strengthened thanks to the wisdom of their great Lord. [...]
Tula's evolution can be seen not just in the urban layout - in the houses, schools and temples Seakatl built, in the ball games or grand squares, but also in the souls, minds and bodies of Toltecs, who are fed and strengthened thanks to the wisdom of their great Lord.
To honour his ineffable presence, as the greatest governor of Tula, Seakatl constructs various buildings with a mission of consolidating the people of Anahuac's faith, and the faith of the Toltecs, in spaces made for education and recognition of the soul.
