In this conversation, David Paul interviews Quentin Wendt from PadSplit, a prop-tech company that allows investors to rent out single-family homes by the room. They discuss the housing crisis, the need for affordable housing, and how PadSplit provides a solution by adding density to single-family homes. Quentin explains how the platform works, with members going through a background check and income verification to become approved tenants. The platform handles demand aggregation, collections, and communication between members and investors. They also discuss the hesitation and pushback from investors and municipalities, as the concept of shared housing is still relatively new in the US. PadSplit offers a unique model for real estate investors to generate high returns and scale their businesses quickly. By converting single-family homes into shared living spaces, PadSplit provides affordable housing for essential workers and generates more cash flow and tax benefits compared to traditional rental properties. The company aims to solve the problem of affordable workforce housing and offers a faster and more profitable alternative to traditional real estate investments. PadSplit's model appeals to both investors and tenants, providing a win-win solution for all parties involved.TakeawaysPadSplit is a prop-tech company that allows investors to rent out single-family homes by the room, providing a solution to the housing crisis and the need for affordable housing. The platform handles demand aggregation, collections, and communication between members and investors. There is hesitation and pushback from investors and municipalities due to the unfamiliarity of shared housing in the US.PadSplit's model allows investors to add density to single-family homes, increasing revenue and providing affordable housing options for low-income individuals. The platform is still in its early stages, but early adopters are finding success and building portfolios of income-producing properties. [21:50] A dramatic murder causes the band's label to fold and J.R. gets disillusioned. [23:35] The band breaks up and J.R. goes solo just as digital distribution becomes mainstream. [46:53] How ongoing learning allows you to develop your craft and create long-term value for yourself. [48:35] IMMEDIATE ACTION TIP: Be really open-minded and when change starts happening, instead of fighting against it, check it out and ideally embrace it because you may find it's better now than it was in the past. [53:02] J.R. Richards sings! RESOURCES J.R.Richards website J.R.'s Shop J.R. on Facebook J.R. on TikTok J.R. on Instagram J.R. on Patreon J.R.on YouTube J.R.on Spotify QUOTES “It was the nineties, you had to sign a deal with a big label if you want to make it big.” “It always felt like the executives running the label had more of the rockstar lifestyle and personality than the actual rock stars on the label!” “It is terrifying because you are showing them [fans] behind the curtain. But you also realize how much people really appreciate that and it doesn't diminish the way they look at you as an artist, it actually increases their appreciation for what you do.” “I think the hardest thing is for the artist to put monetary value to what they do and push themselves out in front of people in hope that someone will buy what they've created.” “You can get all that information and you can make some really educated decisions about where you focus your time and your energy and you can make a massive career out of it.”

Mike Andrade is the CEO of Morgan Solar and a real veteran of the solar industry. In this episode, Mike talks about everything from his start at IBM, to his views on hydrogen, carbon capture, and of course what he's doing to promote Canadian cleantech and manufacturing. This is our first episode in a new series that we are calling Twenty-First Century Cleantech. For regular listeners, you'll remember that we introduced Connor Reed a couple of episodes ago in episode 27. In this new series, Connor is going to be bringing stories focused on clean technologies through conversations with business leaders, entrepreneurs, researchers, and anyone who is leading the energy and carbon transition. In our first episode we are talking to Mike Andrade about Canadian cleantech disrupting the oil & gas incumbents. More specifically, we're talking about solar. Mike has more than 30 years experience working with dozens of the best-known tech firms, launching hundreds of products, and he's had a ringside seat for global technology disruption events – everything from IBM in the early 90's to Blackberry and now distributed solar. He was part of the founding management team at Celestica –a multinational electronics manufacturing services company headquartered here in Toronto, Ontario - and during his time there Mike experienced first-hand the challenges of growing a global tech company in a highly competitive environment. Mike believes that climate change is the defining issue of our generation and that technology is part of the solution, but that it's also going to be a disruptive event for Canada. So, in addition to his role as CEO of Morgan Solar and investor in multiple early stage cleantech companies, he is active in advisory roles with the government on manufacturing, innovation and clean technology. Questions asked include: We all hear the cloud this thing out there somewhere. So how are you helping businesses to deal with that? Using content and making it into a package usable that they can then use for marketing and other sorts of purposes.

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Julia Carreon. She is a longtime digital executive in financial services who now specializes in GenZ. I'm a firm believer that as investors, business owners, evaluators of businesses, no question about it, you want to understand your investments' customer base, and as business owners, your customer. As part of a generation, millennials, that's been traditionally "poo-poo'd" on themost, I was starting to see that same pattern happening with GenZ, even falling for some of those easy criticisms myself. However, I wanted to break this thought process and better understand GenZ as best I can. This conversation started with Caitlin Cook, a GenZ-er herself, and we are continuing with acclaimed writer, thinker who has vast experience speaking at conferences and white paper author on the topic, Julia Carreon. We try our best to understand everything we can about GenZ, but most importantly, in general, why it's important to not overlook what could be the most disruptive generation in human history. David Blankinship, Senior Technology Advisor for the Western Fire Chiefs Association and co-founder of Intterra, joined Bob for Episode 7 to discuss technology in the fire service. David started his fire service career as a Senior GIS Analyst with the Colorado Springs Fire Department. While there, he had the opportunity to be fully integrated in the department's training to understand field operations more fully, and how to “make things better”, a mantra of sorts that sticks with him still today. David was fortunate during his time at Colorado Springs to have the freedom and support to develop projects to integrate technology into operations. He speaks in this episode about the importance of field, administrative, and executive staff being willing to work collaboratively, as well as being honest with expectations and abilities, both your own and those of the people around you. David has been involved in many exciting projects, including wildfire modeling for risk assessment, tactical decision-making, and wildfire behavior. One of his goals is to provide Incident Commanders with the information they need to know before they even get to an incident using sensors and augmented reality. He acknowledges that models need more data inputs to be accurate and useful, which prompted Bob to cite a quote from George E. P. Box, “essentially all models are wrong, but some are useful”. As networks continue to be faster, more secure, and more seamless for first responders, data sharing, and collaboration is also increasing. All of this means the fire service can provide a smooth flow of information between resources to get accurate information to firefighters on the ground more quickly. We hope you enjoy this episode and listening to all the great work David is doing to advance technology in the fire service. How does technology impact the future? How will these convergences transform today’s legacy industries? What will happen to the way we raise our kids, govern our nations, generate wealth, and care for our planet? What should we be paying attention to? What should we ignore for now? These are all questions that creatives are racking their brains over, but most people don't want to admit ignorance. We've been doing some research in this space. And, of course, we've found many different examples of frameworks that serve as pragmatic tools for evaluating the future. The good news is that we figured we'd save you some time in aimlessly searching through google and get you started with one of the best minds in the space. In the book BOLD, Peter Diamandis introduces “the Six Ds of Exponentials,” or the growth cycle of exponential technologies: Digitalization, Deception, Disruption, Demonetization, Dematerialization, and Democratization. In this episode, we breakdown each of these stages of adoption, hype, and innovation so that they could be understood across the board. Subscribe to our Newsletter Follow Us on Instagram

In this episode of the Technology for Mindfulness Podcast, I wanted to cover some simple steps you can take in how you interact with technology to create positive change in your life. I've had other experiences in life where I had changed my own habitsI had control of myself and knew that it came down to how my mind and body reacted to the phone ringing. I used a combination of my experience of mindfulness meditation and martial arts training to train myself to respond to the phone ringing and the phone vibrating. The challenge was how to adapt that to my interaction with my phone. Here are some of the steps I applied to alter my habits and responses to technology disruption:Manage and monitor your triggers: Practice a different response to your phone or device ringing. Follow the same training plan: Through practicing pausing and waiting before interacting with your phone, this will help with anxiety management. Replace with a habit of discipline: You'll replace your habit of how you respond to technology with a new, controlled habit. This will still require you to practice these habits for maintenance. Replace your ringtone to encourage Affirmative Relaxation: Create a different experience and response to your phone ringing. Now that I've shared some of my journey with you, I'd like to ask for your help. After more than 50 episodes of the Technology For Mindfulness, we’re releasing a new product that will help with this very issue to help build a habit around our responses to our smartphones. I’d like to ask for your help. If you go to askmindful.com, we have a short questionnaire that you can fill out that will help us to build the best product possible for you. When you answer, you’ll get 50% off that product. Go to askmindful.com now and receive 50% of our new product! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Today, millennial generation is coming of age and baby boomers are retiring. The future leaders must ascend from this emerging generation and they have to evolve into leaders who understand the past, respect the road travelled and influence the journey head. It is a fact of life that we all stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. Not respecting those who made our journey possible is not conducive for progress. Not allowing the future to evolve and hang on to the past is a non-starter too. It is time we put our differences aside, assess the path ahead, collaborate and develop a strategy to set sail in the right direction and adjust the sails for a safe passage. Rosalynn Carter eloquently said “A leader takes people where they want to go. A Great Leader takes people where they don't want to go but ought to be”. Are you ready to be that great millennial leader as the global economy and civil society are at crossroads with the generational divide and technology disruption?
Jonathan Reyes of AMP Capital presents on finding investing opportunities in technology disruption, with a focus on self-driving cars and mining. Recorded at INVESTING FOR THE TIMES, Melbourne 11 August 2017.
With the results now being calculated for the recent Fitness Industry Technology Council's technology usage survey, for episode 032, we're exploring the real answers for club owners around the adoption of new technologies and when to recognize true disruption vs. just a loud media buzz. If you missed the technology survey, be sure to sign up for the FIT-C mailing list over at www.fitechcouncil.org. Today's show will help our industry address some important information about health club usage of technology, including how fitness facilities are using AI in retail, what is the real bridge between technology adoption and ROI, and how specific technology can enhance your business to rise above competition. We're learning from the Chief Information Officer of Gold's Gym, Adam Zeitsiff, to get more clarity around what Adam believes are the 4 most powerful questions to ask when adopting any new piece of tech. These questions and the information from Adam's interview are a great template for all size clubs, and powerful guide when making decisions that club owners can use to separate their facility from those that frenetically adopt what "seem" to be disruptive technology. How do smart club owners and operators make the best decisions when experiencing adoption and disruption in our space? Listen to this insightful conversation with Adam Zeitsiff for the answers. About Adam Zeitsiff Adam Zeitsiff is the Chief Information Officer at Gold's Gym. He is a dynamic, entrepreneurial and visionary leader with an expertise in providing a game-changing edge to manage and grow company infrastructure, technology and product development in highly competitive landscapes. A champion at executing & operating enterprise technology, Adam specializes in leading software and infrastructure solutions within companies for scale, sustainable growth & has years of performance excellence across the US, Canada & European markets. With an out-of-the-box approach, Adam has a proven entrepreneurial spirit & battle-hardened tenacity through consistently achieving results through the application of both technology and business strategies. Listen To Episode 032 As Adam Uncovers The bridge between adoption and disruption: Will improve your operational agility? Will it make a positive impact on your staff? Does it enhance the member experience? Will it create new revenue streams? As we look at the fast growing technology in our industry, how do we identify when disruption is actually taking place vs. just a media buzz? Understanding Adam's quote: "You either disrupt or you get disrupted” (Blockbuster, Kodak, ect.) When we hear the term “technology adoption” and in looking at the sociology behind the technology adoption lifecycle, what data driven actions should clubs be aware of and why? Why not to adopt technology just to adopt, and only to adopt with a true purpose How has Gold’s Gym been an early adopter with technology? What is a BI Engine? How does a BI Engine learn and serve its customers? How is AI being used with retail and how might this be used in the fitness industry? Why do we as an industry need to figure out how iBeacon, near field technology, and the affordability of AI and geotagging blend together? What are the technology needs of corporate wellness in the next 12-24 months? Top 3 Takeaways From The Show Adam believes there's a lot of fear, uncertainty, and doubt out there, and a lot of media press around technology disruption, but buzz alone doesn't mean something is truly being disrupted. That means somebody got a press release out there and people picked it up. Operators must take the time to really look at these things, always be talking, and learning to stay in touch with colleagues to see the real difference between adoption and disruption in our space. For the operators that choose to have a mindset of learning, who look at all the technology changes with a step-by-step process, Adam believes there is a tremendous possibility to have more engaged members than ever before. The big opportunity with disruption is that operators in our industry hold years of experience that some of the technology providers that are trying to disrupt, just don't have. By leveraging new tech and the deep experience of long time clubs, revenue and member satisfaction will rise. One of the most pivotal questions to ask when adopting new technology is around its positive effect of the member experience. Fitness technology has now created a world without borders; it's not only passed the curve of innovators and early adopters, but also is it now something that will dramatically affect the member experience inside of the club. At the end of the day, you want people to come into your facility and have a great experience, so the technology must disrupt the industry with the sole purpose of improving the member experience within the four walls. Power Quotes From Adam "I don't think a day goes by where I don't hear the term "millennial," and I don't think we as a fitness industry can look at millennials and underestimate how technology will disrupt our industry. Millennials think technology first and brick-and-mortar second. The disruption of millennials, in shifting from using their phones to communicate to now using to purchase goods and services, we must pay attention to these early adopters on the bell curve." - Adam Zeitsiff on the Fitness + Technology Podcast "There's a lot of fear, uncertainty, and doubt out there, and there's a lot of media press around technology disruption, but that alone doesn't mean something is being disrupted. That means somebody got a press release out there and people picked up. The law is arguably the least innovative profession in the country. Huge sectors of the economy -- health care, banking, the arts -- face constant churn and upheaval. Law schools steadily march along with a 150-year old approach to legal education, a 50-year old approach to law firm structure, and a stubborn fealty to the billable hour. Huge portions of American society are served badly by the legal profession while the legal establishment does precious little to address the problem. Technology has systematically brought great change to almost every profession - even taxi driving - so the question is when, not if, the law will be roiled by true disruption.
