The Dudes meet with Stephanie Elad, a Corporate HR professional from California who moved to Texas a decade ago. Her family chose Frisco as their home and after a few years in the Frisco Independent School District, Stephanie began to notice looser standards in the schools. After attending a school board meeting and feeling frustrated with the School Board President's disrespectful behavior towards the parents, Stephanie opted to use her speaking time to call him out. Her polite rant went viral and it ultimately led to her running for and winning a spot as School Board Trustee during the 2022 municipal election. Stephanie brings a diverse perspective to Frisco ISD and has unfortunately dealt with several personal attacks and attempts at canceling her voice since she's been a Trustee. Her story is one everyone should hear as we all seek to be more understanding of one another in search of what's best for our kids and schools. Follow us on Social Media! I heard about my guest during my first season in Turks and I did not meet him until 28 years later! So, as you can imagine, I am very excited to have him on the podcast! His first season was in Club Med Eleuthera in 1983 as a Sailing G.O. He worked for Club Med from 1983 to 2020 and held positions such as Sailing & Windsurfing, Public Relations, Chief of Sports, Chief of Village to Director of Training and Corporate HR in Miami and Director of UDT. Still don't know who I am talking about? You have either all worked with him, or you know his name, as it is synonymous with Club Med. Of course, I can only be talking about the one and only, legendary, Howard McCarley!! Up until Chief of Sports, Howard worked in villages such as Ixtapa, Playa Blanca, Sonora Bay, Fort Royal, Île Maurice, Eilat, Luxor & Hurgada and Copper Mountain. Howard first heard about Club Med from a couple that he was giving windsurfing lessons to in California. It turned out that this couple frequented Club Med and told him all about it. Howard applied and drove down to the Scottsdale office to be interviewed by none other than CDV Sylvio de Bortoli, who was going on a recruitment drive. Howard helped open the beautiful village of Sonora Bay in 1984, with CDV Michel Proriol and we fondly reminisce over windsurfing on the Red Sea in Eilat. Howard shares with us which Chief of Village he modeled himself after and who became his mentor and ends the interview talking about his Chief of Sports stage in France. Please enjoy this first part of the interview. Hopefully, Howard will return in the near future for the second part! **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Podchaser, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. Tip #1: Don't. We need loyal drones- I mean, employees to do the heavy lifting while the C-Suite goes and plays their 12 game of golf this week. This week on the podcast, Theo and Will talk about sending postcards in 2023, how weird modern advertisements are, Campbell's soup's strange new Ghost Pepper soup, Will tells you “How to Quit Your Job without Burning Bridges” (as literally written by HR), and Theo takes us back to the “Taxidermy Shoppe” to show us some terrifying celebrity cosplay rats including one that looks like John Belushi from Animal House, Austin Powers, and also a mysterious totally real (not fake) pirate treasure from eBay. On this episode of the Talent Acquisition Leaders podcast, host Ryan Dull is joined by Michael McMillan, Vice President of Global Talent Acquisitions and Corporate HR at Stryker. Michael was drawn into talent acquisitions after seeing the impact that one of his first hires had on a client that his company was supporting. That customer-centric focus has stayed with him throughout his career, and he maintains a recruitment philosophy that sees customer experience as the defining mission. In order to be effective in his role, Michael believes that it's important to look beyond the walls of his job description and also gain experience in other tangential roles. Understanding the work of his colleagues makes Michael better equipped to find people who are not only good at their jobs, but that can also better support the broader mission of Stryker. According to Micahel, this holistic approach to talent acquisition is at the heart of his industry. Understanding the unspoken needs of his organization, and the needs of its customers, is essential to becoming an effective talent acquisition leader. That foundational understanding is only gained by seeking out diverse opportunities beyond what is typically expected of talent acquisitions specialists. Today we are talking about developing resiliency versus putting your head in the sand. How do we problem solve and learn from our mistakes so that we don't continue to use the same type of thinking that led us to the problem in the first place? We have to always keep growing and keep developing as we work to be better 6 months down the road or 3 years down the road. Managing our emotions and leading by example when things get tough is critical for everyone especially those in leadership roles.
