According to its website, the FAA claims, "Individuals with targeted or 'severe' disabilities are the most under-represented segment of the Federal workforce." Under its People with Disabilities Program, the agency says it "actively recruits, hires, promotes, retains, develops and advances people with disabilities." The FAA targets the following disabilities as a matter of policy: "Hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism." The FAA told Fox News that it "seeks qualified candidates from as many sources as possible, all of whom must meet rigorous qualifications that of course will vary by position." Its website reveals that those with disabilities or those who have a veteran status can also be hired via the non-competitive, "on-the-spot" process as long as a manager files the proper paperwork, thus giving them preferential treatment in the hiring process. The aviation industry has received further scrutiny from the public in the wake of an Alaska Airlines door plug being blown off the side of its two-month-old Boeing 737-9 MAX aircraft causing it to make an emergency landing. In a post on X, tech mogul Elon Musk asked, "Do you want to fly in an airplane where they prioritize DEI hiring over your safety?" He added, "That is actually happening." "People will die due to DEI," Musk said. Musk's comments came in response to a report that revealed in 2022 that Boeing began prioritizing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as part of its hiring process in 2022. The Alaskan Airlines situation came on the heels of a shocking report in December, which showed there were 19 instances where planes nearly crashed into each other at airports in the first ten months of 2023. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/business/2795955/shark-tank-powerhouse-investor-says-he-wont-invest-in-california-bad-policy/ Shark Tank powerhouse investor says he won’t invest in California: ‘Bad policy’ Kevin O’Leary of Shark Tank revealed he would not make business investments in several Democratic states, including California. O’Leary explained his reasoning in a yet-to-be-released episode of Sen. Marsha Blackburn’s (R-TN) show Unmuted. According to a transcript reviewed by Townhall, the politics of a state help O’Leary determine where to invest. “I’m not trying to get involved in the partisanship of this statement. Just a fact, I don’t invest in New York, I don’t invest in Massachusetts, I don’t invest in California. In my mind, those are examples of states that are uninvestable because of bad policy,” O’Leary said. “So, I’m looking for the path of least resistance. If you make it hard for me to make money, I just take my money and go somewhere else.” California in particular is ranked in the top ten for sales taxes and corporate taxes, according to the Tax Foundation, while New York is in the top ten only for its sales tax. O’Leary pointed to Tennessee as an example of a state with “fantastic tax policy, reduced regulatory environment, reduced permitting time.” Any other state that doesn’t implement these business-friendly policies is at risk of “killing jobs,” according to O’Leary. The Canadian investor started his own venture capital firm O’Leary Ventures last year, over 15 years after his first appearance on Shark Tank where he spends episodes deciding in what small businesses he desires to invest. https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2024/01/15/report-white-house-swatted-prank-caller-claiming-residence-on-fire/ White House Swatted by ‘Prank Caller’ Claiming Residence on Fire Fire trucks and ambulances reportedly rushed to the White House Monday morning around seven o’clock after a “prank caller” claimed the residence was on fire and someone was trapped inside. The incident represents the latest swatting event against political officials. Dangerous swatting events appear to have first been instigated by Democrat prank callers against political opponents. The prank call at the White House forced fire trucks and ambulances to rush to a snow-covered White House, the Daily Mail reported. After arriving, the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services and the U.S. Secret Service determined the incident was a false alarm. “Fire in the White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,” a Washington, DC, dispatcher said at 7:04 a.m. Authorities gave an “all clear” order at 7:15 AM. President Joe Biden was located at Camp David on Monday morning, far away from the residence. Authorities traced the prank call to an apparently spoofed phone number, a source told CNN. “Someone who was reached at the callback number for the 911 report indicated they did not place it, a source told the Associated Press, indicating it was likely spoofed,” the Daily Mail reported. Recent politicians who were swatted include Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), along with celebrities Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber, and Kim Kardashian. https://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/yemen-houthi-rebels-fire-missile-us-warship-red-106370679 Houthi rebels strike a U.S.-owned ship off the coast of Yemen in the Gulf of Aden, raising tensions Houthi rebels fired a missile, striking a U.S.-owned ship Monday just off the coast of Yemen in the Gulf of Aden, less than a day after they launched an anti-ship cruise missile toward an American destroyer in the Red Sea. The attack on the Gibraltar Eagle, later claimed by the Houthis, further escalates tensions gripping the Red Sea after American-led strikes on the rebels. The Houthis' attacks have roiled global shipping, amid Israel's war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, targeting a crucial corridor linking Asian and Mideast energy and cargo shipments to the Suez Canal onward to Europe. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, which oversees Mideast waters, said Monday's attack happened some 110 miles (177 kilometers) miles southeast of Aden. It said the ship’s captain reported that the “port side of vessel hit from above by a missile.” Private security firms Ambrey and Dryad Global told The Associated Press that the vessel was the Eagle Gibraltar, a Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier. The U.S. military's Central Command later acknowledged the strike. “The ship has reported no injuries or significant damage and is continuing its journey,” Central Command said. Houthi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree claimed the attack in a recorded television address that aired Monday night. “The Yemeni armed forces consider all American and British ships and warships participating in the aggression against our country as hostile targets,” he said. The vessel is owned by Eagle Bulk Shipping, a Stamford, Connecticut-based firm traded on the New York Stock Exchange. In a statement to the AP, the company acknowledged the strike and said it caused “limited damage to a cargo hold but (the ship) is stable and is heading out of the area.” “All seafarers onboard the vessel are confirmed to be uninjured,” the firm said. “The vessel is carrying a cargo of steel products. Eagle Bulk management is in close contact with all relevant authorities concerning this matter.” Satellite-tracking data analyzed by the AP showed the Eagle Gibraltar had been bound for the Suez Canal, but rapidly turned around at the time of the attack. Central Command said it detected a separate anti-ship ballistic missile launch toward the southern Red Sea on Monday, though it ”failed in flight and impacted on land in Yemen." The U.S. Maritime Administration, under the Transportation Department, also issued a warning Monday saying there continues to be “a high degree of risk to commercial vessels” traveling near Yemen. “While the decision to transit remains at the discretion of individual vessels and companies, it is recommended that U.S. flag and U.S.-owned commercial vessels” stay away from Yemen in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden “until further notice,” the advisory said. Sunday's missile launch toward the American warship also marked the first U.S.-acknowledged fire by the Houthis since America and allied nations began strikes Friday on the rebels following weeks of assaults on shipping in the Red Sea. The Houthi fire in the direction of the USS Laboon, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer operating in the southern reaches of the Red Sea, Central Command said. The missile came from near Hodeida, a Red Sea port city long held by the Houthis, the U.S. said. “An anti-ship cruise missile was fired from Iranian-backed Houthi militant areas of Yemen toward USS Laboon,” Central Command said. “There were no injuries or damage reported." The Houthis did not acknowledge that attack. It wasn’t presently clear whether the U.S. would retaliate for the latest attacks, though President Joe Biden has said he “will not hesitate to direct further measures to protect our people and the free flow of international commerce as necessary.” The first day of U.S.-led strikes Friday hit 28 locations and struck more than 60 targets with cruise missiles and bombs launched by fighter jets, warships and a submarine. Sites hit included weapon depots, radars and command centers, including in remote mountain areas, the U.S. has said. The Houthis have yet to acknowledge how severe the damage was from the strikes, which they said killed five of their troops and wounded six others. U.S. forces followed up with a strike Saturday on a Houthi radar site.

It’s getting near closing time for the Trumps at the White House—Monday’s electoral college vote made that official. Which means folks like Ivanka Trump have to GTFO and find themselves new careers. It might be a bit tricky, Daily Beast contributor and Hysteria host Erin Gloria Ryan explains. Just about everybody hates Ivanka these days—well, except for a handful of Fox-addled octogenarian creepers. That corporate feminism she used to try to embody? That “Hallmark feminism where there's absolutely no substance behind any of the things that she's saying”? It might’ve worked before. In the dying days of 2020, it just makes everyone gag.And the only thing worse is her “naked desire for her to be seen as an American princess. We literally fought a war so we wouldn't have to live in a monarchy,” Erin tells Molly Jong-Fast on the latest episode of The New Abnormal. So she’s settling into a new little palace in Miami. Meanwhile, daddy will be just down the road, setting up shop in his bizarroworld castle, Mar-a-Lago. Jong-Fast and Rick Wilson think it’s only a matter of time before Trump cultists start treating Dear Leader’s place like the real White House—and Donnie looks for new ways to extract cash from his megafans. “I’m wondering how much it costs to get him to sign your boobs,” Molly says.“Free—if you stop at the churro bar,” Rick answers.“There's going to be an omelet station for sure,” Molly counters. “Or a station and you'll get to say mean things to Eric.” But before the festivities begin, there are still a few remaining questions: How many more cabinet members will Trump fire on his way out? How many more Trumpists will declare war on the GOP? Will Donald try to smuggle any Oval Office tchotchkes in his pants? “I'm still curious to know,” Molly says, “does Trump get dragged out of the White House or does he go to Mar-a-Lago and just forget to come back?”Want more? The Maryland State Department of Health reports today that 10 people died of COVID-19-related illness yesterday, the highest death toll in the last couple of weeks. More than 3,800 people have died in our state since the pandemic began in March. More than 130,000 Marylanders have been infected with the virus. The coronavirus pandemic continues to dominate the national conversation as well. Since President Trump’s treatment for his COVID-19 infection at the Walter Reed Military Medical Center last weekend and his return to the White House Monday, dozens of the president’s staffers, as well as political and military leaders who had recent close contact with the president, have tested positive for the virus. And there has been growing concern among public health officials over Mr. Trump’s tweets and video messages in the past few days about his self-proclaimed “recovery” from COVID-19, aided by powerful therapeutic drugs which he has falsely described as a “cure.” The Administration’s handling of the pandemic over the past eight months was also a dominant issue in the Vice Presidential debate on Wednesday night. The US death toll from COVID-19 is at a higher rate than any other nation. On Wednesday, the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine in an unprecedented political editorial, called the Trump administration “dangerously incompetent” and said it should no longer be abeted and enabled. Scientific American also broke precedent and endorsed Joe Biden. Today on Midday, it’s another edition of the Midday Healthwatch with Dr. Leana Wen. "Attorney General William Barr is facing demands to step down after the Washington Post reported Tuesday that the nation's top law enforcement official personally ordered police to beat back peaceful protesters gathered near the White House Monday evening to clear the path for President Donald Trump's walk to St. John's Episcopal Church," Common Dreams reported Tuesday. How significant of a revelation is this?Lee Merritt and Benjamin Crump, attorneys for the families of three victims of police brutality, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, have "announced that they intend to bring a case before the United Nation Human Rights Committee on behalf of their clients and seek sanctions against the United States for violating the human rights of African Americans," MintPress News reported Monday. What does this mean going forward?"The number of reported coronavirus cases in the United States has surpassed 1.8 million, including more than 104,000 deaths," the Washington Post reported Tuesday. "Officials emphasized the need for testing, physical distancing and face covering, a reflection of concern that the easing of stay-at-home restrictions, as well as large protests against police brutality across the nation, could lead to a spike in new cases." What do these latest numbers confirm or disprove about past projections and tell us going forward? The National Economic Association (NEA) has issued a statement expressing its "Solidarity with Those Who Are Protesting Anti-Black Racism and its Manifest Violence Against the Black Community," wherein it states that the recent police killings of black people are part of the political, economic, social and physical violence that has been built into America's institutions since its inception, and makes anti-black racism America's most notorious export.GUESTS:Daniel Lazare — Journalist and author of three books: "The Frozen Republic," "The Velvet Coup" and "America's Undeclared War." "Former national security adviser John Bolton's claim in an unpublished manuscript that President Trump told him he wanted to hold military assistance to Ukraine to get officials there to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden has sharpened a rift within the Senate GOP over trial strategy," The Hill reported Monday. "Two key moderates, Sens. Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Susan Collins (R-ME), say Bolton's claim strengthens their calls for the Senate to hear from witnesses at President Trump's impeachment trial. Yet GOP leaders and other rank-and-file Republican senators are questioning Bolton's motivations and dismissing the reported claims of his book draft as adding little to the case against the president." What does this mean going forward?"'Iranians should not allow US President Donald Trump's 'maximum pressure' approach to harm national unity ahead of parliamentary elections,' President Hassan Rouhani said in a speech, lashing out at hardliners over mass disqualification of candidates," Reuters reported Monday. Is Trump's maximum pressure campaign having more impact in Iran than originally thought?"Over the past few weeks, former Vice President Joe Biden has been making an effort to recast his record on Social Security as one of a champion who defended the program from assaults, rather than one who consistently argued that it ought to be cut," The Intercept reported Saturday. A look at his record tells a different story. What does this mean going forward?"President Donald Trump is meeting with the leaders of Israel's two largest parties at the White House Monday, as he prepares to present the administration's Mideast peace plan," Haaretz reported. "Trump hosted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before meeting with Kahol Lavan [Blue and White] Chairman Benny Gantz, Netanyahu's rival in the upcoming March election. The meeting with Netanyahu was scheduled to last for over an hour, while the meeting with Gantz was scheduled to last between 30 to 45 minutes." Wednesday marks the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States. But as the Washington Post states, "That was thrown into sharp relief this week when President Trump abruptly announced Saturday that he was canceling months of negotiations with the Taliban, even as he aims to fulfill a promise of ending America's endless wars. The US war in Afghanistan has led to the deaths of about 2,400 American service members, including 16 in combat action this year. Some 20,000 more have been wounded, many grievously." So will we ever pull out, and why are we still there? The Leadership Conference on Human and Civil Rights released a startling new report titled "Democracy Diverted: Polling Place Closures and the Right to Vote." It states, "We found 1,688 polling place closures between 2012 and 2018, almost double the 868 closures found in our 2016 report. Additionally, Democracy Diverted analyzes the reduction of polling places in the formerly covered Section 5 jurisdictions in the years between the 2014 and 2018 midterm elections. We found 1,173 fewer polling places in 2018 — despite a significant increase in voter turnout. To understand the discriminatory impact of these closures, we analyzed how voters of color were impacted at the precinct level. This analysis — precisely the kind that the US Department of Justice conducted under preclearance — takes time and resources." What does this all mean, and what's being done about it?Republicans are celebrating wins in two big races in North Carolina. Republican state Senator Dan Bishop won a close race against Democrat Dan McCready in North Carolina's 9th Congressional District Tuesday. The seat's been open because of allegations of election fraud after the November 2018 elections. In the other race, Republican Greg Murphy easily beat Democrat Allen Thomas in North Carolina's 3rd congressional district. That seat opened up when Republican state Rep. Walter Jones died earlier this year. He thanked US President Donald Trump for his support. Do these wins point to the influence of Trump and a 2020 re-election? The Trump administration is reportedly launching an effort to address homelessness in California, but is the proposal humane? A recent Common Dreams article, titled "'Internment Camps for the Homeless': Housing Advocates Horrified by Trump Push for 'Crackdown' on California Homelessness," says, "Further efforts to criminalize or otherwise harm people experiencing homelessness are unconscionable ... Following reports that President Donald Trump is pushing for a "major crackdown" on homelessness in California that could include destroying existing encampments and moving homeless people into government-backed facilities, state lawmakers and progressive housing advocates said the administration's proposed steps are cruel, politically motivated, and would do nothing to address the very real crisis Trump has exacerbated." What's going on here?House lawmakers on Wednesday will look at legislation designed to prevent mass shootings. The Judiciary Committee will consider measures to restrict access to high capacity magazines and prevent people convicted of hate crimes from owning firearms. Red flag laws are also up for discussion, which would let the government prevent people in crisis from getting guns. While the House moves forward with possible legislation, it's unclear what reaction there will be in the GOP-controlled Senate. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he won't bring anything to a vote unless it has the support of President Trump. After more than a hundred evacuees from the Bahamas were kicked off a ferry boat to Florida, President Trump says "very bad" gang members and drug dealers could be trying to get in. Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas, leaving an estimated 70,000 people homeless, and the death toll is still rising. Speaking to reporters outside the White House Monday, Trump said that the Bahamas was having problems with dangerous people who weren't supposed to be there, and he didn't want those people in the US. He added that everyone needs proper documentation to enter the country. Bahamian citizens need a valid passport to enter the US, but don't usually need a visa. In an interview with a Florida news station, customs officials blamed the ferry operator and said they would have accepted the evacuees. US President Donald Trump says he is imposing new, tougher sanctions on Iran. He stressed at the White House Monday that Iran can never be in possession of a nuclear weapon and says his administration will continue to increase pressure on Tehran. Trump said new sanctions were already in motion prior to last week's downing of a US drone by Iran. According to Trump, the sanctions are crippling Iran's economy. He also accused Iran of being the top sponsor of terrorism in the world. Officials in Tehran have described US sanctions against Iranian people as “economic war” and “economic terrorism,” and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that since the sanctions include ordinary people, they are examples of “crimes against humanity.” Turkey's opposition has dealt President Recep Tayyip Erdogan a stinging blow by winning control of Istanbul in a re-run mayoral election, breaking his aura of invincibility and delivering a message from voters unhappy over his ever-tightening grip on power. Ekrem Imamoglu of the secularist Republican People's Party (CHP) secured 54.21% of votes, the head of the country's High Election Board announced on Monday - a far wider victory margin than his narrow win three months ago. The previous result was annulled after protests from Erdogan's Islamist-rooted AK Party, which said there had been widespread voting irregularities. The decision to re-run the vote was criticized by Western allies and caused uproar among domestic opponents who said Turkey's democracy was under threat. Democratic US presidential candidates are hoping they garnered black support after attending a notable fish fry in South Carolina on Friday. Twenty-one of 24 presidential hopefuls gathered at the event hosted by the highest ranking black lawmaker in Congress, South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn. The fish fry is seen as a chance to build a voter base in the early primary state, which boasts a Democratic electorate that is primarily black, at 60%. Though South Carolina typically votes Republican, many Democratic candidates see it as a boon for winning the party nomination. Both Senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker have sought the attention of South Carolina voters, but former Vice President Joe Biden still dominates the field among black voters, with 52%. South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg is facing tough questions about the police killing of a black man in his city last week. The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate held a town hall Sunday for a crowd that at times booed and shouted over him. Mayor Pete acknowledged the lack of trust between the black community in South Bend and the police. He also pointed out reforms that he's already made as mayor but admitted that they might not have gone far enough. Trump says he's delaying his deportation raids for two weeks. He tweeted Sunday that he had delayed planned immigration raids in nearly a dozen cities because he wants to give Democrats "every last chance" to address immigration issues. ICE agents were expected to round up about 2,000 illegal immigrants around the country before Trump called off the raids. On Twitter, he warned that if progress is not made in Congress, "big deportation" begins in two weeks.
