News: As the march towards the launch of Disneyland's 70th Anniversary continues, the Disney Parks Blog posted an update for the celebration. The new “Walt Disney - A Magical Life” attraction has been delayed until the official birthday of July 17th. Rumors have suggested that they have some more tweaking of the show to make it perfect for guests. - https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disneyland-70th-anniversary-new-experiences-main-street-usa/ In addition to the new show, the lobby of the Opera House will have an experience featuring the evolution of Walt's dream for Disneyland. Images, art, and artifacts - some never seen before - will be on display. The next area will be dedicated to the story and history of Audio-Animatronics. Finally, some artifacts from the Walt Disney Family Museum will be on display, including items from Walt's apartment, humanitarian accolades, and more! - https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disneyland-70th-anniversary-new-experiences-main-street-usa/ After leaving the “Walt Disney - A Magical Life” show, the exit lobby will show previews of projects and how Disneyland will move forward in the years ahead. - https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disneyland-70th-anniversary-new-experiences-main-street-usa/ Also announced was a fairly major update to “it's a small world.” Shortly before Richard Sherman, who, along with his brother Robert, wrote many songs and lyrics to classic Disney tunes, passed away last year, he wrote a new verse for the iconic song in the attraction. This new verse will debut in the attraction starting July 17th. If you want to hear Richard tell you all about it, you can watch “The Last Verse,” a short film we have linked in the show notes. This short film will also be playing in the Main Street Cinema for the 70th Anniversary. - https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disneyland-70th-anniversary-new-experiences-main-street-usa/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fKUnhAIVp0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DerN_lPryRA Guests who brave Disneyland in the rain are getting a little extra magic recently. When it rains, the parade is usually replaced by a “rainy day cavalcade.” Currently, there is no parade running, but the cavalcade is! So, if you want a little extra entertainment for your Disney dollars, a rainy day could be a good option. - https://www.micechat.com/409435-disneyland-update-stormy-skies-rising-moons-delayed-debuts/ With the premiere of Captain America: Brave New World, new food, drink, and merchandise arrived in Avenger's Campus. At Pym Test Kitchen, you can pick up a Red Gamma Gulp, which is a red velvet cold brew with cream cheese cold foam, or a Red Rage Wings, which are spicy wings tossed in habanero sauce and served with potato bites and ranch dressing. At the Pym Tasting Lab, there is a Liberty Punch, a Litmus Lemonade with blue Hawaiian and topped with citrus meringue foam. At Schwarma Too, a pepperoni and cheese pizza pocket is available. Both have mozzarella, house-made marinara sauce, and wrapped in empanada dough. Finally, there is a Captain America Shield Sipper at Pym Test Kitchen. - https://www.micechat.com/409435-disneyland-update-stormy-skies-rising-moons-delayed-debuts/ An unexpected, but welcome update has come to Snow White's Wishing Well. Sixty years of the Enchanted Tiki Room doesn't just mean a lot of decades of bird shows, although that number is enormous. Opened on June 23rd of 1963, The Enchanted Tiki Room represents Walt Disney's first foray into Audio-Animatronics, a new "space age" technology that allowed inanimate characters to perform on cue--and even talk. Six decades of Abraham Lincoln, swashbuckling pirates, singing dolls, Big Al, Dinosaurs, Mark Twain, Figment, Extraterrestrial Aliens, Avatar Shamans and Dancing Baby Groots all take their roots from a thatched hut. We pay homage to this amazing attraction--Simple in concept but never simplistic in execution. We see how this attraction has played out for generations of audiences over the years, and has evolved into entire resorts like Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and Disney's Aulani. Hey guys,Sorry for the delay as COVID is still playing havoc with running a bar but that's another story!!This episode we will be talking about Disney land and park but more specifically Trader Sam's bars that are featured in those areas. The Enchanted Tiki room gets some coverage as well in this show and so we have all the bases covered for your trip to Disney. We do two of the Trader Sam's cocktails: The Castaway Crush and the Rosita's Margarita. The Castaway cocktail was a three thumbs up by all of us and a definite addition to any tiki party or for yourself to enjoy on that nice summer night (OK, it's fall soon but you know what I mean)!! In the Castaway cocktail we are using a spirit called Cachaça or as Paola also says it can be called Pinga. You know me and my pronunciation so I went with Pinga. They both feature some layers of tropical spices and sweetness that you just got to try. The other cocktail (Margarita) uses George Clooney's Casamigos Tequila which I highly recommend as your premium if not only tequila. we go indepth into his story on how this spirit started. How did I get the recipes? Well listen as I'll give you a bartender's trick!!!On "Mark's adventures" segment: we are talking about Trader Sam's in both parks and a few things about the ones around the world. Did you know it was the first place that Audio-Animatronics was used in the Enchanted Tiki room which we also discuss. Walt was before his time for sure on this. We discuss how the show started and has it changed over the years....fire?? Well, yeah we talk about that too!!! The show has been around for decades and still going strong today!!On "Did you know?" segment: we talk about the tiki room was the first attraction at the park to have AC....why? Well, listen to find out. Also, the 4 talking Macaws have something in common. HINT: "Est-ce que tu parles français?". Also, who sponsored the attraction then and now? Links to the show:Recipes for the show: https://tikicentralcanada.ca/recipes/Mark's adventures page: https://tikicentralcanada.ca/marks-tiki-page/Enchanted Tiki Room history video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ct0iStBQl0Walt's project of EPCOT was suppose to be a city video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hqLo4J6mrQ

Field will gush about how this film about the world of tomorrow is more like a movie from yesteryear, better fit in the more fun and optimistic 80's. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - In this episode, John B. deHaas and I head to Disneyland's Toontown to ride and review Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin!  Recorded on August 22, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. It’s time to head to the Toontown section of Disneyland to ride the zany dark-ride, Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin!  The Disneyland website describes this attraction by saying, “Steer a runaway taxicab through the wacky streets of Toontown as you follow the adventures of Roger Rabbit.”  There are no age or height requirements and the Thrill Level describes this attraction as being a Spinning Slow Ride that is Dark and Loud.  Fastpass is available for this attraction. Before we head to the Toontown Cab Company, here are five fast facts about Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin at Disneyland! 1. Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, an attraction based on the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, opened at Disneyland on January 26, 1994. 2.  Many actors in the film’s voice cast reprised their roles for this attraction.  Most notably, Charles Fleischer as Roger Rabbit and the legendary June Foray as the weasel gang member Wheezy. 3. The queue area for this attraction was one of first totally immersive queue areas in a Disney Park and there are several hidden sight gags throughout.  You can also peer into sections of the attraction while waiting in line giving you a preview of what’s to come.  Also see if you can decipher what each of the personalized license plates in the queue area spell out.  It’s a great way to pass the time. 4. Part dark ride, part spinning teacup, the Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin attraction features 17 Audio-Animatronics and close to 60 animated props. 5. One of the main features of this attraction is that your cab, Lenny, spins!  But in keeping with the film, he doesn’t spin until he hits the DIP poured out by the Weasels.   Now it’s time to ride Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin.  Along with me for the ride is John B. deHaas.  On the day we rode we had fast passes so we did not wait through the queue.  Perhaps in a future episode I’ll record some of that audio.  But for now, put on your headphones as this is a binaural recording of Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin at Disneyland! The Mad Chatters Podcast | Walt Disney World and Around the Disney Universe

It’s hard to think of Walt Disney World without picturing the many audio-animatronics that serve as guides on certain attractions. In fact, the very term “audio-animatronic” is a registered trademark of Walt Disney Imagineering. In light of the recent news that three iconic audio-animatronics from long ago have made a triumphant return to Walt Disney World, this week […]

Unlocking The Magic: Talking all things Disney World and Disneyland

Pirates of the Caribbean, located at the end of Adventure Land is one of our favorite attractions. It is a well known "Disney Classic" and a must do at the Magic Kingdom. Believe it or not, the attraction was originally supposed to be walk through wax museum but with the success of Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress at the 1964 New York World's Fair, Walt Disney decided that Audio Animatronics was the best way to have their guests immerse themselves in this fun, pirate story. There was even a movie inspired by the attraction. Have you heard of it? ;) Be sure to visit the pirate themed gift shop at the end of your experience for some really great keepsakes to take home. Truth be told, Bruce has to drag me out every time."Yo ho, yo ho, a pirates' life for me." Ha! In this week's episode on Inside The Mouse Castle, we pay tribute to the late Blaine Gibson, the animator, sculptor and Disney Legend who passed away Sunday at the age of 97.   Blaine began his career at Disney in 1939 as an in-betweener and assistant animator. His feature animation credits include Fantasia, Bambi, Song of the South, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty and 101 Dalmatians.   He considered himself an animator first, but he also had a gift for sculpting. Aware of Blaine's talent, Walt Disney assigned the artist to WED Enterprises (later Walt Disney Imagineering) to create character forms that would transform into Audio-Animatronics. Blaine made significant design contributions to Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. Arguably, his most impressive accomplishment in Imagineering was overseeing the design of every president up to George W. Bush in the Magic Kingdom's Hall of Presidents.   Even though Blaine retired in 1983, he continued to consult on projects with Disney. The "Partners" statue that depicts Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse standing hand-in-hand at Disney theme parks remains one of Blaine's lasting creations.   All of us at The Mouse Castle send our condolences to Blaine Gibson's friends and family. Rest in peace.   Also in this week's episode: Pixar's Inside Out and Universal's Jurassic World ended the July of 4th weekend box office battle in a virtual tie for first place. They were aided by poor debuts from Terminator: Genisys and Magic Mike XXL. Inside Out's solid performance helped Disney's stable of 2015 film releases (including Avengers: Age of Ultron and Cinderella) pass $3 billion in international box office. It's the sixth year in a row that Disney has passed the $3 billion mark. Marvel's high-tech entertainment roadshow, The Marvel Experience, is closing up shop after finishing its stint in Philadelphia over the weekend. Upcoming appearances in Chicago, New York and St. Louis this summer have been cancelled and tickets are being refunded. Complaints about technical issues, overpriced tickets and poor crowd management have been rampant on Yelp and other social media sites for months. Ant-Man premiered in Hollywood last week. Tim is looking forward to seeing MCU's latest entry when it debuts on July 17th. Anthony has concerns after being unimpressed by the film's sneak preview at Disney California Adventure. It's not just selfie sticks that have gone away at Walt Disney World. Poop candy has exited Animal Kingdom and DisneyQuest is closing at Downtown Disney to make way for the NBA Experience. In business news (Anthony's least favorite kind of news), Christine McCarthy has been named the new Disney CFO, replacing the departing Jay Rasulo. Also, Disney Interactive and Disney Consumer Products, once independent divisions, will now operate under the same umbrella. There are two new exhibitions getting ready to open at the Walt Disney Family Museum. Disney and Dali: Architects of the Imagination will open on July 10th and will feature an audio tour narrated by Sigourney Weaver. Tomorrowland: Walt's Vision for Today opens on July 22nd and will be curated by filmmaker Brad Bird. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.com

**Subscribe on iTunes** Contact Us Like Us On Facebook Disney Avenue New RSS Feed The Disney Avenue Podcast returns with a fantastic interview with Walt Disney Imagineering's original “designing woman” Alice Davis. Married to Disney Legend Marc Davis, she enjoyed a fashionable Disney career of her own, designing and dressing animated figures for such beloved Disneyland attractions as it’s a small world and Pirates of the Caribbean. One day, she received a call from her former art instructor and future husband, Marc. He needed a costume designed and created for Helene Stanley to wear for some live-action reference footage being filmed to inspire his animation of the lead character Briar Rose in Sleeping Beauty. That job led Alice to design costumes for Disney’s live-action motion picture Toby Tyler. In 1963, Walt Disney recruited Alice to contribute her skill to the attraction it’s a small world for the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. Collaborating with art designer and Disney Legend Mary Blair, Alice researched, designed, and supervised the creation of more than 150 highly detailed costumes for the Audio-Animatronics children of the world. During this time, Alice also formulated costuming procedures, set up a manufacturing base, and developed quality control refurbishing techniques, which established the standards for three-dimensional characters in rides and shows created by WDI. In 1965, she translated the pirates’ attire from Marc’s original drawings of the shiver-me-timbers cast and crew into clothing designs and patterns for all of the costumes featured in Pirates of the Caribbean. Two years later, when the attraction opened at Disneyland, guests were dazzled by the animated figures and their colorful, textured pirate-wear. Later, Alice contributed to General Electric’s Carousel of Progress and the Flight to the Moon attractions. Married in June 1956, Alice and Marc enjoyed a Disney fairy-tale-romance-come-true for 44 years until Marc’s death in 2000. Alice has continued to consult for the Company, and remains a frequent face at Disneyland events. She was honored with a window on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland—next to her husband’s window—on May 10, 2012. The Disney Avenue Podcast would like to thank Geren Piltz for his contributions to this show!

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #184 for the week of August 22, 2010. This week, I’m pleased to be able to share with you an interview with another Disney Legend. And this one is special because I had the rare opportunity to speak with one of the original Imagineers, and a man who is credited with designing just about anything with wheels for the Disney parks. He is Bob Gurr, whose work on designing the Monorail, OmniMover, Audio-Animatronics, Main Street vehicles and countless others earned him the Disney Legend status in 2004. I had a chance to sit down with Bob and interview him on stage in front of a crowd of Disney enthusiasts at a recent meet, and recorded the audio to share with you. It’s a fascinating look at the life of a man whose work was instrumental in the development of attractions which continue to delight millions of guests to this day. I’ll then have a few announcements and then play more of your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show. This attraction opened on June 23, 1963 and was the first to feature Audio-Animatronics. The attraction's first commercial sponsor was United Airlines but sponsorship soon passed over to Hawaii's Dole Food Company who remains the sponsor to the present day. Dole also provides the unique Dole Whip soft-serve frozen dessert sold at a snack bar near the entrance. The presentation features a "cast" of over 150 talking, singing and dancing birds, flowers, the aforementioned magic fountain, tiki drummers and tiki totem poles that perform the attraction's signature tunes, The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room by the Sherman Brothers and Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing. The finale has every Audio-Animatronic figure performing a rousing version of Hawaiian War Chant. The choice of exit music is somewhat unusual, namely an arrangement of Heigh Ho from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with lyrics thanking guests for watching the show and which hurry them along on their way to the exit.
