After Amazon Prime Day, Chuck Joiner, Brian Flanigan-Arthurs, David Ginsburg, Mike Potter, Marty Jencius, Jim Rea, Web Bixby share some of the items that tempted them, and those they purchased. A PC emulator for iOS has been approved on the App Store, and the panel debates its significance for running old software and vintage games on iOS devices. I have a lot of books on Audible. I would like to download them in a format that is decrypted in case Audible goes "Mammaries skywards" in the future, or is taken over by another company that demands you pay for all your books again. I came across a free program called Libation. You can view it on GitHub and it can be installed on most operating systems. It has all sorts of filtering options and will download a postage stamp size icon. Note you can only download books that you have purchased from Audible. -------------- AJ Santos on What's Going On With Voyager 1? Future Looks Uncertain Voyager 1 is the furthest any human object has ever gone from Earth. It is now over 15 billion miles from our planet, flying through interstellar space. Since its launch in August 1977, the spacecraft has remained in contact with Earth, but over the last several months, that communication has become nonsensical. I love my laptop, but it can be a pain using it on a flat surface as I'm always worried about if there's enough air getting to the vents under it, can bother your wrists when typing for long periods of time, and adjusting the screen every so often for just the right viewing angle. Then there's the usual case of most newer laptops to not have enough ports for your accessories, which is never a good thing when you're using your laptop for work/business where having access to flash drives, external drives, and more are a necessity.
Do you need more USB ports? Are your devices constantly running out of power? If so, you need a USB hub! There are many different types of USB hubs available, but not all of them are created equal. Avram Piltch discusses the best USB hubs for desktops, laptops, and tablets. He will also provide tips for choosing the right USB hub for your needs. Stay tuned! What is a USB Hub?A USB hub is a device that allows you to connect multiple peripheral devices (like mice, keyboards, and external hard drives) to your computer using only one USB port. It's like a splitter for USB ports; instead of having just one USB port on your laptop or tablet, you can add more with a USB hub.Types of HubsThere are two main types of USB hubs: powered USB hubs and unpowered USB hubs. A powered USB hub has an external power source that provides additional power to the devices connected to it. An unpowered USB hub does not have an external power source, so it relies on the limited power provided by the connected host device. Some USB hubs are designed with specific port configurations, such as hubs that have only 4 ports or hubs with additional features like USB charging ports.Tips for Choosing the Right HubWhen shopping for a USB hub, make sure to consider how many devices you will be connecting and the total amount of power they need. If your devices draw a lot of power, you'll want to look for a powered USB hub. Also, pay attention to the number of USB ports available; if you need more than four ports then look for a USB hub with 6 or more ports. Finally, consider any extra features that might be useful, such as USB charging ports or wireless connectivity options. Some of Our FavoritesWe've tested many USB hubs to find the best ones for desktops, laptops, and tablets. Topping our list is the Sabrent HB-B7C3. This hub offers a total of 10 ports: 3 dedicated to power and 7 for power and data. This hub is powered, meaning that it takes a separate connection to provide additional power. All in, this hub is able to provide a total of 60 watts of power to its ports. In addition, each port also offers a switch for each port, making it easier to enable and disable devices.Next up is the poorly named Anker PowerExpand 4-in-1 USB-C Hub. Truly, this hub is closer to a small docking station than it is a traditional hub. It connects to a PC via USB-C and provides 2 USB-A ports. That is where this device's standard features ends. It also provides power throughput, meaning that you can provide power to a laptop through the hub. It also provides an HDMI port for extended displays and a memory card reader. But, the feature that really sets this hub apart is the built-in 256 GB SSD.To learn about the rest of the list, check out the full article on Tom's Hardware.
Also, kaufen, Marsch, Marsch! And lucky enough to be in the first few months of deliveries, meaning that I started at 16K and eventually moved up to 48k, microdrives, et al. Only replaced 6 years later with an Atari ST - I sold the last one, one broke but I still have a Spectrum Plus 48K in the attic. Might have to dig it out, complete with tape recorder. What was your first foray into computing? Ted Salmon I think it was a BBC Micro (or Acorn) at home and IBM XT at work. Mid-80's. Adrian Brain Mine was the Sinclair ZX81, after having played with my (at the time) girlfriend's brother's ZX80, which he assembled himself. Phillip Wray Vic-20 for me. We used to have zx80 and zx81s at school running on old massive black and white TVs. Always thought the zx80 looked better and more futuristic than the zx81. Chris Kelly The first I had at home was the ZX80 but before that I had used the Commodore PET to learn BASIC (Beginners' All Purpose Instruction Code) at college in the late 70's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_PET?wprov=sfti1 Matt Jones I was a ZX81 guy! A while back I discovered a ZX81 emulator on the iPad, and managed to remember enough to write a simple program that ran first time with no syntax errors ! I was really impressed considering it was nearly 40 years ago and I was only about 12 at the time, and have had nothing to do with even trying to program these things since.

I get between 150-200 down and about 30 up. No outages to speak of. You have to pay Starlink £500 for the dish, cable, mini tripod stand for mounting it on the ground, 110ft of power-over-ethernet cable and a router. Includes shipping from the USA. You have to pay upfront and wait until Starlink has a slot in its queue. (This makes sure that the system isn't overloaded with more users than capacity and that Starlink is available in your location.) The monthly fee is £80, but there is no data cap. The Starlink app scans your field of view and tells you where it's obstructed. You plug in one end of the ethernet cable to the dish and the other end into the dish. It supplies power to the dish from the provided router. Then plug your network cable into the second port of the supplied router. You use the Starlink app on your phone to log on and enable the dish. Once it's set up you don't have to use the supplied router, you can plug the dish cable into your own router.
