Brent discusses if she was right to call out SU fans and what solution there is (if at all) to get more fans to the games. Brent also chats with Orange QB legend Don McPherson, who finished second in voting for the Heisman Trophy in 1987. Being fresh, fit and energized is VERY underrated. Today we look at a common loop triathletes get themselves in when they are not paying heed to the truth of nature. This is the time of year to build habits that work for you next year, and frankly all the time. There's nothing more powerful than looking forward to training and today we look at ways to get there. Training for 3 sports all year long isn't the right formula for everyone. Frankly, it can seem overwhelming and today we look at why focusing on what feels right and good will help build your overall goal, which is fitness. We've said it before, but having a well-trained, fit, and energized 70.3 athlete is much better than an overtrained full athlete. If you love this sport and want to be in for the long haul, keep this in mind: Being overtired is overrated. The best track is a slow and steady burn. Topics: This time of year Nature doesn't lie Fitness is fitness Stress is stress Wallowing in the past Transcend and include The weight of stress Gaining fitness or gaining tiredness Craving structure Global life stress Coach the person, training the athlete Right now it's all about enjoying it Single sport focus What gets you the best results? 00:00 - True crime. 08:47 - Marvel Snap from Second Dinner and Nuverse doesn't necessarily reinvent the genre's mechanics, but what it does with card battlers, it does better (and faster) than pretty much all the others. 22:50 - A slower-paced, smaller-scale movie that's ghoulish, perhaps even Shakespearean, The Banshees of Inisherin is a dark and funny and profound film you should go out of your way to watch. 36:44 - [Ad] Go check out our pals at Overtired. 37:57 - There's nothing horrifying about Horrified: Universal Monsters and Horrified: American Monsters from Ravensburger. They're excellent co-op games with a horror theme that manages to capture the feel of the monsters brilliantly. 51:31 - Picking up onions and peppers over 20 minutes with Point Salad, and building homes for teensy peeps with Tiny Towns - both of which are from AEG. 1:00:44 - The Banshees of… Ed Sheeran? All that, and eventful hairdressers, with Dan (@ThisDanFrost), Kris (@DigitalStrider), Peter (@XeroXeroXero), and Sam (@MrSamTurner). https://youtu.be/7fvrgNaSkhY In this blog I will help you to establish whether or not your child is actually overtired and take you through the steps you can take to understand if your child is overtired and what you can do about that if that is the case. Is your child overtired, is your little one overtired, and does it even matter if they are? It really does matter. Overtiredness is the main reason that you will see difficulty with your little one settling to sleep, disturbed sleep, so lots of wakings and light sleep that's disruptive, you'll also see also early waking, waking up early for the day, starting the day too soon. All of those are typical repercussions of being overtired. And I know that sounds crazy because we would think that if they're really tired, they would just sleep, right? But no, the opposite is actually true. These effects of overtiredness, not only are they probably a little bit annoying and disruptive, they may well disturb you and maybe other members of the family sleep as well, they also have a big impact on children, little ones. Your child's brain development, for example, is a really important thing that will be affected through lack of sleep or through this disturbed sleep. The deep quality nourishing sleep that they really need is absolutely vital for their brain development, as well as their health, their immune system, and all the other benefits that go with good sleep too. So it does matter. What can you do and how do you recognize if your child even is overtired? You might have some clues with indications other than those repercussions I mentioned. Indications like being fractious, clingy, just groggy, perhaps a bit unsociable, just not in the most cheerful and contented spirit. Those some of the obvious signs that your little one is overtired, and they just really seem to be a bit out of sorts. You often can tell you if ee things like eye rubbing and you can often look at their face and see when they are really, really tired as well. The other thing that you can do to help determine whether your child is overtired is to know what ideal sleep looks like for their age and developmental stage. For instance, did they ought to be having a certain amount of daytime sleep? Are they getting those naps in? And if they are, are they long enough? Are they deep and nourishing or are they short cat naps that are shallow? Are they awake for too long in between sleeps? We call those wake windows. Are those wake windows too long for them at this age and developmental stage? And this is where you cannot use your baby or your child as a guidepost for this because they will have you believe that they're fine. They will have you believe that they can be awake for five hours when really, the optimal time is actually two and a half hours. So understanding what that optimal time really is for your little one and helping them to get their sleep when it actually is going to be more beneficial for them is really going to help you move forward with this. Knowing what that sleep ought to look like, how much do they really need overall, in what sleep patterns should that come in? Is it naps, night sleep? What does it all need to look like? And then, with that knowledge, you can actually work on spotting where the overtiredness is coming from so that you can resolve it. Take our Quiz and get your free custom sleep plan today!

Transcript # Barely There [00:00:00] **Jeff:** Hello everybody. This is Overtired. I'm one of your hosts, Jeff severances. Gunzel and I just got outta my prepo shower. And I'm here with Christina Warren and Brett Terpstra. Hello, friends [00:00:19] **Brett:** I have always said that cleanliness is next to podcast or [00:00:23] nurse. [00:00:24] **Jeff:** podcast. [00:00:26] **Brett:** Yes. [00:00:26] **Jeff:** Hi, [00:00:28] **Brett:** Hi [00:00:28] **Christina:** Hello? [00:00:31] **Jeff:** wait, Christina, why don't you tell us [00:00:32] where you are because people [00:00:34] can't see, but I can tell you're not where you would be [00:00:36] normally [00:00:37] **Christina:** yeah. I'm not where I would be normally. So I'm in Atlanta. I'm at my parents house. My mom's birthday is today actually, as we're recording this, so happy, 75th happy 75th birthday mom. Um, very, very, uh, happy to be here with her. So I [00:00:51] am in, um, the, uh, the bedroom that I stay in when I'm at their house. So I'm basically like in a nice, like, it'd be like, like a nice Airbnb[00:01:00] [00:01:00] **Jeff:** Mm-hmm nice. [00:01:01] **Brett:** you are 10 years younger than me, but your parents are the same age as my parents. Did [00:01:06] they have you really late? [00:01:08] **Christina:** Yes. [00:01:09] **Brett:** Is your sister older? [00:01:11] **Christina:** Yes. [00:01:12] **Brett:** Okay. So you're, are you the youngest [00:01:14] **Christina:** I'm the baby. I'm the baby. And she's older. And then my [00:01:17] parents were, frankly, they were older. [00:01:18] when they had my sister, [00:01:20] so [00:01:20] **Brett:** I mean, my parents were older when they had me. So [00:01:22] your parents I, I can't do math, [00:01:25] **Christina:** yeah. [00:01:26] **Brett:** that's, that's, pretty advanced. [00:01:28] **Christina:** Yeah. [00:01:29] **Brett:** All right. [00:01:30] **Jeff:** Yeah, well, my parents were 24 and it did not work out. something to be said for waiting a bit. [00:01:41] **Brett:** uh, yeah. [00:01:44] **Jeff:** here [00:01:44] **Brett:** I'm the oldest, but my sister's only six years younger than me. [00:01:48] **Jeff:** Hmm. Are you, so none of you have [00:01:50] steps or anything like that. You're [00:01:52] dealing with the, uh, the, original set. [00:01:54] **Brett:** I [00:01:54] **Christina:** Aboriginal said OG OG, OG rents, [00:01:57] **Jeff:** Yep. I just had an [00:02:00] amazing step kid experience where, so my mom was married twice and the second marriage was when I was like, end of junior high, beginning of high school. Um, and I had a stepbrother and a step sister at that time.
Jeff is traveling, so Overtired gets back to its roots with just Brett and Christina talking about mental health, conferences, Top Gun, and great apps.
If you have kids and you've tried reading the Bible to them, you might know where this is going. Getting our kids to not just read the Bible, but to actually enjoy God's story and message is not easy. Trying to instill the message of a Bible story in their hearts whilst tucking them into bed can reap the exact opposite outcome of our intentions. Overtired kids + frustrated parent = not what we intended. Let this episode encourage you: you are not alone. In this episode, Josh and Christi talk with best-selling authors Amy Parker and Mike Nawrocki about their new Bible storybook, The Bible for Me: Bible Stories & Prayers. The four of them talk about how to make God's story relevant to your child's life and ways they've implemented daily prayers and Bible reading into their family rhythms. Send us a Text Message. It's almost a right of passage… At some point (or at many points), babies will wake up earlier than most of us would like. But wanting your baby to “sleep in” is not at all selfish. Well, maybe it is a little bit, but you're allowed to want and need good sleep too! Because you do!Keeping in mind that each baby has their own thing going on and waking up really early isn't really that uncommon or unrealistic. But, if there is anything you can do to help improve or lengthen their sleep and you want to explore those options, that's what we're here to talk about today ;) Now, as always, I need to say that this conversation does not apply to newborns or infants under 4 months of age (adjusted if they were born before their due date). These babies can wake up any time they want and it's all normal. They probably need to be fed, so just keep on trucking and later morning wake-ups will be coming soon! Why you want them to wake at a more reasonable hour:And by the way, when I say “reasonable hour” I mean, let's get them sleeping until AT LEAST 6am. A wake-up time between about 6-7:30am is generally what works and what most babies/families strive for. If not later, later is fine too. But this is what tends to fall more in line with their natural circadian rhythms and it's pretty important to help them preserve it, and here's why:It helps ensure they're getting enough sleep overnight. It also helps with the QUALITY of their sleep. It helps them with their naps during the day.It helps the WHOLE FAMILY get some much needed rest. Why they are waking early and how to help change that:-->They're Overtired. Staying awake too late/long between naps and bedtime. THE SOLUTION: Make sure your baby isn't staying awake longer than what's appropriate for them for their age and stage, including naps and bedtime. Making sure your baby isn't too overtired can help them fall asleep easier, stay asleep longer for better quality sleep, and sleep in a bit later into the morning. -->On the other end of this, another reason why your baby could be waking up too early is because they've already gotten enough sleep! They've reached their quota of maximum amount of sleep that they need for the day and just can't sleep any more. THE SOLUTION to this problem could be either to start limiting their daytime sleep, possibly pushing their bedtime a bit later OR maybe shifting their entire schedule ahead.-->Hormones. Our bodies actually produce hormones.. Hello cortisol! Yes, I'm talking about that stress hormone again but it isn't all bad! It actually starts to accumulate in our bodies (and your baby's too!) a few hours before we're meant to wake up and this is actually why we wake up in the morning. THE SOLUTION to this problem is to either alter their sleep schedule, for instance helping them to rearrange when/how long they're sleeping, OR to implement sleep-training techniques to help them with getting back to sleep upon waking too early. Mental Health MinuteI'd like to take a minute to talk about your mental state when YOU don't get enough sleep, because with less sleep makes it a lot tougher to be our best selves. We have a ways to go everybody and I want to help you through it. So all this to say, and trying to bring it back to this episode on babies who wake up really early.. There's a fine line between tired and overtired, and sometimes the right bedtime exit becomes clear only once you've blown right past it. A member of our Facebook group asked: How do I tell the difference between overtired and just plain not tired? In other words, is my toddler not settling to sleep because I'm putting him down too early or too late? Some of the main symptoms of overtiredness are hyperactivity, irritability, and clinginess– caused by a sudden rush of adrenalin. Here's how The Sleepy Company explains overtiredness: Your toddler's body goes from from the state of being ready for sleep to an "alert and active" state. The body can no longer cope with its fatigue and activates a stress response, pumping adrenalin and cortisol (the hormone that keeps us awake and alert) into the body. This interferes with the normal release of melatonin (the hormone that makes us drowsy), causing irritability and hyperactive behavior. You can be a detective about how your own kid manifests overtiredness so you get better at catching the right window– but in this episode, Amy suggests what may be an easier and more effective long-term approach. Consistency around bedtime– both the routines, and the time at which it occurs– takes the guesswork out of "is my kid ready for bed?", both for yourself and for your little one.
